I think Solstice(NES)'s title theme perfectly describes Tim Follin in a nutshell. It starts off like any standard title theme at the time, a simple raw tune that's fairly easy to make but does the job. But then *_BOOM_* a burst of notes and waves come splashing at you face, filling you eith energy, despite the game being just a small silly puzzle game.
I think the Metal Gear theme was different enough where it isn’t plagiarism, yes it’s similar but not the same. There have been music legal disputes have been ruled not plagiarism because one chord or one note was different. There are multiple different notes in that melody.
It was clearly plagiarism - the MGS theme contains two distinct movements and both are present in Sviridov's composition. It's inconceivable that could be a coincidence. The best Iwase could claim was that he had heard it earlier in his life, completely forgotten the tune's origin, and felt he had come up with it himself.
Novus Grimnir the thing is music plagiarism is basically impossible to get a favorable ruling on in court. There was a semi big music dispute where a musician was suing Coldplay for music plagiarism but it was shot down because Coldplay changed 1 underlying chord and that was all that was needed for it to count as original. These 2 songs have a few different notes so it’s pretty unlikely to get ruled as plagiarism.
and "Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - Soundtrack - Show Time" at around 2 min 17 seconds mark sounds similar but not similar enough, more like a reference.
