I just got my Yukon and the Garmin Striker. Now I know how to get everything connected. I also got the Scotty mount. It got great reviews. Awesome video!
Thanks! Let me know how you like the set up!
Excellent. One thing I like to do is after I drill a hole, especially in plastics, I use a dowel rod smaller than the hole, wrap I with 220 sandpaper. Then it’s a sanding dowel. Works excellent on burs and little rough spots that might prevent a good water seal.
@@Empowered-ltc that’s a great idea. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! Used this as an example to construct a very similar battery sonar system in my own kayak. Haven't used it out on the water yet but so far it is providing power to my sonar unit. Thanks for the tips great tutorial.
No problem! Let me know how it works on the water!
Your wire strippers have a color coded crimper that works great by not crimping too tight
Instead of keeping fuse exposed you couldve wired it into box. That way there was no way the fuse gets wet or questions of “is it gonna get wet”
You talking about the wire connectors?
you can put the glands (sans the inside nut) on the cable before putting the female connectors on to keep the inner rubber in tact. (I did connections first too but cut them off to redo
@@WoJoMoZilla great idea!
I am about to do similar today, but going to cut the wire shorter and have the fuse inside the box..
Awesome idea! Let me know it it goes 👍🏻
I found the same watertight box on amazon with two sizes small and large may I know which size did you use? Hard to visualize the measurement might not accurate on the description.
8 x 6.75 x 3.5
Those strippers have a spot to crimp that may be easier than pliers since they were made for that along with a few other features.
I got ya. However these strippers stunk. They wouldn’t strip the wire, even when the wire was placed in the correct gauge setting.
What battery was that? Which do you recommend and how long does it last?
12V 10Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Deep... www.amazon.com/dp/B097BRKCQP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It will last you more than a day. It has been great!
How do you keep the battery charged all the time to keep power to the fish finder ?
This battery will last all day for multiple days on the water. I just charge it at home.
Ok so what battery charger do I need to get of it

This is what I have. Works well.
Thank you
@@ronniewayne7672 no problem. Good luck!
What are you worried about the battery getting wet???
Because I’m fishing on a kayak
Thank u sir
You’re welcome
Those little beautane torch lighters or a heat gun work great on shrink wrap. Channellocks work on the connecters really good.
Thanks! I actually recently invested in a heat gun, and love it.
Couldn’t I just connect the striker cord directly to the fully insulated female terminals?
Mate, there are 4 cables of the Garmin device, should I cut those two cables that's not red and black colour? Thanks in advance!
Yes!
Blue and Brown (optional) - The Blue wire is the Tx (Transmit), and the Brown is the Rx (Receive) wire. These wires are used to share user data between the STRIKER and the ECHOMAP¹ series devices.
@@LunkerHunter Understood!!!Thank you very much!!!
You dont need to cut it off just isolate them with electrical tape but thanks for explaining the uses of the cable.
@weriesblack1375 thanks for watching!
Awsome!
Thanks!
hello, what is the battery specification , voltage and A
12 V 10AH
@LunkerHunter
What is the estimation working time with this battery if it full , will cover a 2 or 3 trip , if not, what is the battery will cover this time .. what nust increase is volt or A
@attiahaly8030 3-4 trips
Squeeeeeze!
😂
Can you list price ?
If you click on the links in the video description it should take you to the website, which is where you’ll see the prices.
👍🏻✌🏻
🤙🏻
The concept is great, but that was possibly the worst execution I’ve ever seen.
😂😂 Thanks Jason!
Someone needs to teach this fella how to use wire strippers. Not a vary handy handyman lol.
Thanks for watching!
I went the same route. I found an old harbor freight Apache heavy duty lock box for mine. I just trimmed the foam that I didn’t need out and got those battery terminals. Works great , and light weight compared to me using my big marine battery which kept getting corroded and shorting out . This little battery and the box fits under the console of my 13 ft whaler perfectly
Awesome!
great video! What charger do you use to charge your battery brother? Do ya mind to link it?
Thanks! Here’s the link.

@@iamalemontree no problem
Just hooked mine up. Thanks man
I’m glad it worked out! Now go catch some fish!
Do you have to disconnect battery to charge? Or can you 🔌 plug into compatible smart charger that uses the sae plug right back into the box?
I use the compatible plug! I never actually have to open the box, ever.
@LunkerHunter I appreciate it very much, gonna make a build like this for my striker4 and use a plastic ammocan for my boat. Great video!
@@BlackRifleSurvival good luck!
Can you explain how you connect to charger? Can't find charger with this type of connector

Did you garmin come with connectors for the red and black wires? Mine are just exposed copper wires.. i didnt see where you connected it to the wires from the battery
.not sure if you skipped that part, or went so fast i didnt see , but ive watched it twice now and cant tell what i missing 😂.
The garmin didn’t come with the male/female quick connectors. I had to connect those to the wires it came with, with the butt connectors. The product links should be in the description. Sorry it wasn’t clear. It wasn’t the easiest DIY video to follow…
@@LunkerHunter that was the only real question I had so I think y'all did pretty good! I appreciate y'all?
@kylesmith3211 no problem!
Giving this a try tomorrow.
Let me know how it goes!
How much this cost with the battery and charger?
How much is the garmin with everything else, or just the battery and charger?
@@LunkerHunter Just the battery and a recommended charger.
@@drjekelmrhyde battery was $45 and charger was $26
At the top end of your wire strippers there are crimpers that you can use to crimp the butt connectors/splices onto the ends of the wires. They work pretty good.
Ya, I used those, but I wanted to be able to get a lot pressure when crimping…
Great video , I have the same yak and have been contemplating a fish finder . After watching this and how easy you made the setup look I’ll definitely be doing it .
This set up has never failed me. It’s easy and effective
