I. Cannot. Believe. That. Worked. I didn't even need to buy the hardware, I already had a USB port. It works so fricking well. I just saved hundreds. Thank you. Oh my god, thank you.
Hi Luke.
You mean you had a normal port without the phone icon on it?
Does Android Auto work for you? If yes how do you connect it without a proper port?
What software version did you have before installation? Mine is 70.00.352. Which requires the "slightly different approach" as written on the mazdatweaks website. Did you do this "slightly different approach" as well?
Hello can you tell me more about that tweak? Mine is cx5 70.00.335. will it work for me?
Thank you so much! It worked! 2015 Mazda 3 S GT 59.00.441 NA ... Tip I found in the comments: if AA seemingly doesn’t work, make sure you plug your phone in with the USB cord. Accept allowance prompt for USB and then open AA. After accepting all allowance prompts for AA app, It should be smooth sailing from there!
Hey! I found some videos where the USB panel is replaced with another "compatible"
Do you know if is this necesary? Does this works with any physical mods?
Thanks for creating this video! The infotainment system is now one-thousand times better than the factory design.
2021 and this still works smoothly! Thank you so much!
Yes and the software has had continuous version updates since then, it actually has more options than the ones shown in the video!
@@wafflez7 what's your fw, Android version and Aio AA version? ruclips.net/video/DsJMiQgpt0I/видео.html
Hi, maybe yo can help me. I understand that if you follow the instructions just to install android auto, it is not required to acquire the retrofit kit, am i correct? As far as i know, retrofit kit is just if you're an Apple user and need Carplays. Is that it?
Thanks for sharing this info and explaining every step so clearly. It's also just another great thing about Mazda that they are able to be modified like this.
When looking for a car I really wanted Android auto so I was a little disappointed when I bought my 2016 Mazda3. But oh boy, disappointed no longer. The app works great and I'm really happy that I stumbled upon this. A huge thank you to the developers of this app, that's crazy!
Works like a charm just following instructions in video. Tested it for a little bit and everything (autodetection, calling, maps/navigation, audio, switching between MazdaConnect and AA, etc.) seems to work well. The only thing I noticed is Spotify audio pauses for half a second when switching in between the bottom tabs on Android Auto.
Edit: I have a 2017 Mazda3 GT.
were you able to get wireless android auto to work?
works out great on my 2016 CX-9 , took 30 mins get everything done, what a gift! thank you very much for posting this video!!!! you are awesome
Installed it in my 2016 mazda6 and everything you said works great. Thanks a lot. Just waiting for a carplay tweak now.
7csquad any issues since then? I got the same mazda
Is it the older type of display?
Which software version are you using ?
I tried to be patient and wait for Mazda to get up with the times but i couldn't wait any longer. This tweak is Amazing! The other feature beyond just AA are worth it by themselves.
Worked perfectly on my 2017 Mazda3. It took less than 5 minutes. Thanks for the video. This is going to make my commute a lot more enjoyable!
I'm looking to add this to my 2017 mazda 6, have you had any issues since installing this?
@@abdullahmiah501 I haven't had any issues thus far.
@@mycarjournal thank you for the reply. I'll give it a go than.
Is it cable android auto or bt one?
First af all Thnaks a lot for this video about how to install android auto to my mazda :)
I've had a problem. When i wanted to start android auto while i was driving i could not start the app cuz the system is blocked it.
Very important to say that u should turn on your car first than use your hand brake! This is the way how to use android auto in your car :)
I hope this is helpful for somebody :)
Could you please make a video on how to recover/restore in case the installation goes wrong?
Thank you for this. The Bluetooth issue has resolved and it works and is smooth like butter!
Works great on my 2017 Mazda 3. The only downside that I've noticed is whenever Google Maps rotates/resizes the map, Spotify stutters for about a quarter second. Really only an issue during interchanges on freeways when you're doing a long sweeping turn and the map is rotating for a while. A small price to pay for the easiest and most useful modification I've ever made to any vehicle!
Did you have to change your hardware? Trying to understand his bit before giving it a try.
@ No hardware change was required! I just installed the software onto a USB stick and plugged it into my car as the video instructed.
video player, android auto, and some other tweaks work perfectly on my 2015 mazda 3 (Ver 56). thank you for the tutorial.
How did u do? We have same version but it always says that my rootfile is full and its danger to dl.. thats why i abort it
It works on my 2017 Mazda CX-3 GT. Thanks a lot!
is it probably work on my Mazda CX-3 GS 2016 ?
Great video. Easy to understand. Enjoying my Android Auto tonight.
It worked on Toyota iA 2017. Thanks so much.
Did all the steps work I have a 2018 ia
I have Toyota Yaris IA 2017 work?
HI Patrick, Just want to say Thanks, It worked for my Mazda Cx9 2017 , I can now use Android Auto..
Patrick...thank you for this video!
I have copied everything to the flash drive as you mentioned in the video. But when I plug in the drive in usb port of the car (after the accesory mode is turned on)... it doesn't do anything... I mean, it doesn't show any pop up/ notification for set-up. Can you pls guide?
Having the same issue.
Having the same problem. Need help
It worked with my 2017 mazda 3. I definitely recommend checking your firmware first though to make sure.
Did you have to swap out the USB ports?
@@ronjohnmush no I just used the same one that connects to the radio underneath the dash not in the drivers storage console.
@@1235tristan I just did it, and it worked perfectly!
It works 200% ... thanks alot mate
Worked like a charm on my 2015 model thanks so much!
Great video!! I might risk it on my future 2017 mazda!
Adam Skrzypczak My 2017 Mazda3 still didn't have Android auto as of a couple months ago so you would need to check manufacture dates to ensure you get a fresh 2017 or you'll end up like me and need this tutorial.
I think it will be costly option !!
I can see them charging $100s for it.
I would wait for the official release because it screwed my MX-5 head unit and had to revert back.
My S8 mounts perfectly to a magnet holder. No need for AA just yet. Rather have it separate anyway.
It works fine on my CX-5 2016, navigating google maps with android auto and playing videos from usb... Thanks!!!
Can't get mine to work. I plug in the usb 5mind later still nothing
Hi Patrick. I get the notification comes up to say usb connected but after sitting here for ages nothing else? I'm on version 59.00.502. any ideas please?
Hi you figure this out, I tried too and nothing happened when plugged in the USB stick. I too am on version 59. Your help would be appreciated if you figured this out. Thanks
@@Jayant10001 no mate it turns out this particular version is blocked by Mazda so it's just a no go pal. There is a company that sell the memory cards for map updates though
@@graybell3691 thank you for your reply. All good.
Hi Guys, Installed it and after some trouble shooting it works perfect now. For the people who is facing the "_StartContextReady: Can't connect to head unit process." . make sure usb debugging is turned off on your phone. It fixed it for me.
I managed to install android auto into my 2016 mazda 3 along with color changes. The color change look/layout was fine but android auto didn't work. It's there but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions ?
Install it on your phone and use the USB.
Works perfectly on my 2016 Mazda 2! Thank you so much for this tutorial and for the links. 🇵🇭
You didn't have to install a new usb hub correct?
Does the reverse camera still operate automatically with Android Auto installed?
yes
Thanks works great on 2017 cx5 ...(with fw 59.......449)
Hey there! Thanks for the video. My firmware was updated to 502+ so I had to remove the console, hard wire and take the long route. Nevertheless, I successfully installed the Android Auto app. Every time I plug my phone in, AA starts up. BUT, I do not see the app in the application tab. That is really strange. Anybody know how to fix this?
Got it working on my Mazda 6, it's a 2017. I like it so far, The only thing that kind of bunks is that you cannot connect it via Bluetooth, it has to be plugged in via USB, and when the phone gets unplugged the Android auto goes away and you have to reconnect your car to bluetooth. So I figured, unless you need the maps. Just stick with one of the original apps, or connect through Bluetooth regularly.
Thanks for the heads up. That made the decision for me!
So when you have android auto up and running with it do the physical controls on the steering wheel (for controlling music, volume, taking calls) still work?
@@PatrickLipp does this still work? I see thus video is a couple of hears old
worked pefectly on 2014 mazda 3 after i updated the firmware from 31 to 59.449
Hi, how did you update this
there is some solution for version 59.000.504 EU N?
Thanks!!! Everything works!!!! 🤩 But can someone explain how to conect it wireless???
hi ..will it work on CX5 --2019 ?
Worked like a charm first time the whole system frozed then later started working without any problems. After installing Android auto You can really see just how low resolution & quality the Mazda head unit is. It's a shame.
When i plug in usb in my mazda cx5 2018 it doesnt auto run it no matter how long i wait :/
i have same issue
Ashton Brighttil have you formatted the usb as fat32?
Make sure the size of your USB is smaller then 32gb don't use bigger size like 128Gb or 256gb drives. And use that smaller size USB and format it to fat32 then follow all the steps. Hope that helps
Question: At the end 6:24 min why do you say to uninstall any modification done/installed? Sorry if is a dumb question
thank you for posting the video. would this work on a 2017 mazda 3 isport version 59.00.30 na n?
asking same question here
yes, i did it today
Mike Castillo it work, but have a bug, i cant to anwser tha calls by bluetooth and i cant to fix it.
.
Worked perfectly on Yaris R 2016 (Scion)
it stopped working and i cant make it work again, can you specify the steps of if the phone has to be synced by bluetooth or not?
Awesome! It's working on my 16 Miata Thank you!
I read something about newer Mazda firmware disallows installing Android Auto as per this video. Is this true? Is there now no way to get AA on a new Mazda?
Now that makes sense. I had no luck installing on my 2017 Mazda6.
So does that mean 2017+ vehicles have Android Auto already or that they don't allow you to add it?
Firmware blocks usb communication so you cant install it as a tweak. Its also not officially added. So you are out of luck then.
Good move Mazda. I was going to purchase a new 2018 CX-5, but they have now put a stop to that.
Daniel Hughes
I'm about to order a new Mazda 3, but this is quite a bummer, I may look somewhere else because I was looking forward to get Android Auto in it
I'm sorry, I'm newbie on this. I'm considering to get a Mazda 3 or a CX3 in the next month. For me Android auto is a must.
Just a simple question... Do we need to install a special hardware to make it work? I've seen some kits on aliexpress, and I don't know if they're needed in this case. Thanks and congratulations for the video, is really useful!
this seems to be a software based alternative using the hardware comes with the vehicle
i have a 2018 mazda 3 with os version 59.00.504na n ...... can i do this on that?
Hi,I have this version also, does it working to you?
Not working for me
You are a gentleman and a scholar my friend!
works on mx-5 2015 EU N 55 version
All is working fine?
@@JoaoFernandes-wx3vn had some recent lag issues though but I'm not sure if its my phone that also being slow
Thanks for the information!
I installed everything just fine; but first of all I cannot play no videos from my USB Memory.. second of all I cannot see android auto on, so please tell how to do both of them
You have to create a Movies folder and put movies in there.
Android auto need you install the app on your phone to run with MZD
Excellent video, do you still need the usb thumdrive in the usb port, or can you remove it once the instal is complete
Remove it
Great video but you should lower the volume of the background music.
Finally did it! Worked fine for the first time but after a car ride, AA would not start properly.
I waited till this morning and tried again. Worked fine.
It may be my phone. I'm on Android O preview 2 and my phone acts funny when under 15%. I made sure it was charged and rebooted before testing again!
Thanks a lot for this video!
It's not music but just crap, and it's very distracting too. Wish it were turned off completely.
What !!!! This could be the deal maker for my next car.
I have 2 problems, 1) When I answer bluetooth calls, it will not let me put it in speakers
2) videos are played, but no sound
Might you help me
Yes, or I do not know how to make it work, when I play the video you hear it is the sound of the transmitter not the sound of the video
A mi me pasa que la única manera en que funcione el audio de los videos es que mi música por bluetooth ya esté sonando o esté en pausa. Si no hay bluetooth solo se ve el video.
Bluetooth issues happen just when running Android Auto or just by installing this mod you loose bluetooth all the time?
lwfoon it won't let you answer calls while using android auto or even if you are not using it?
I'm sad to read that, I just watched your video and thought this would be perfect for my dad's Mazda 3 2017, but I guess I'll wait till this bug is corrected by the developer... I only want to install Android Auto for Google maps. Do you know if one can still play music and answer calls if the phone is connected by USB?
Do you need to use the touch screen for android auto or can you use the dial that's by the volume nob? My touchscreen doesn't work
I think i just violated my lease...
😂
I have a 2020 mazda 6 that already has 70.00.335 NA. Do I need to upgrade anything, or can I get started with this version?
Everything successfully installed but the app won't work. I have my phone connected via usb and bluetooth but it just sits on the copyright page that says Headunit for Android Auto
I have tried opening Android Auto on my phone and still nothing. Mine is doing the exact same thing Ask Ketchum. The other tweaks work but the Head unit App just sits on the screen with the selectable rectangle. I'm debating uninstalling and reinstalling when I get a day off to see if that fixes the problem.
I have the same problem....so frustrating
Were you able to get this resolved? Just installed it for the first time but I didn't have my phone connected via USB.
I haven't done this/don't own a Mazda, but in my Chevy I need to change my phone from "USB for charging" to "MIDI" sometimes.
Tried it with my phone plugged in but still getting that same copyright page.
Many thanks for this great guide. I had to update my CMU first, but totally worth it to have Google Maps working.
how'd u update ur CMU
Kelvis yera You need to download the software and upload it to the Mazda via a USB thumb drive:

Thank you very much for your tutorial it helped me a long time to your blog.
Do we need to change the usb ports the ones in the car? Or we would be able to use the original ones
Can't wait for Apple carplay when it comes to Mazda, I wonder what the price will be for older car, I have a 2016 model.
This is really a good video for installation. Can you make one for Iphone users? Also if I install only the video player, will it wor for Iphone videos? Please help
Great write up and DIY. Thank you! Does this method allow screen mirroring from a phone or tablet? I've seen mixed comments on whether AndroidAuto allows this. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this... IT worked on my 16' Mazda 3
Hey bro! Firstly, thank you for your all effort to enlighten the people. I've just bought Mazda 3 2018 Model. Does it work for 2018 as well? Because I didn't see any notification about 2018.
Me too , I have cx9 model 2018 full
Fantastic Video bro, i been looking for something like this, I have the 2019 CX5 , i want to change the screen setup, this gives me so much options. Cheers.
Still working till this day? Or do the new updates prevent it now?
great video, does this void your warranty on the car?
Yes
my car mazda 3 model 2018 version 59.00.540 and i wanted to update and install android auto which firmware version is compatible with my car ???
Worked like a dream. a few glitches here and there.....but an improvement nonetheless.
hello. I have 2018 CX9 which has V59.00.504 version. Is there is any way to get AA? Thansk in advance
Does this work for Mazda cx-3 2019? In other videos they always say that is necessary to buy a retrofit kit and the installation is pretty hard.
just bought a used 2015 cx9 without navigation, what do you recommend buying a navi module or going with your android auto software? and why?
Great vid! I am interesting in adding Android auto to my Mazda 3 using my spare android phone. However, my everyday phone with all my contacts is an IPhone. Would you know if I have android auto running with my android phone that I can still bluetooth connect my iphone and use the car mic/speakers to answer/make calls?
Hi sir, may i know why after the installation, the video player could not found any video files? I have downloaded mp4 videos into the thumdrive..
Do your parking sensors still work after doing this?
I have a several questions:
1. What happens, exactly, when I get a call while using Android Auto? Does AA just stop and Bluetooth suddenly works?
2. If I'm not using AA, is the Bluetooth still disabled?
3. I didn't see how you do a factory reset if it bricks from the video. It shows the installation of the software, but no examples of how that part works. Any chance of a video showing that process?
I really want to install this, but the lack of Bluetooth options just makes me want to go with a phone holder.
If an update comes that solves the Bluetooth issue, them I'll be all over this!
Thanks for the video!
Ok. Interesting. It's something I'll have to consider. No information from Mazda about a real date for AA update tells me it'll never happen. Even if it does, they'll charge $100s for a software update.
I'll cave and do this eventually. Thanks for the response!
The will include it soon, however they have'nt realease a date. Check this out www.cars.com/articles/mazda-to-add-android-auto-apple-carplay-capability-1420694439589/
***** They had that up since February or March. Still no word.
Hi My Friends sounds that in this version we still have the phone calls dropping to the phone not on bluetooh , this is a version issue or is related to my Andoid/Phone version ? great colaboration the software works very good on my M3 2014 also works now with the media control Thanks for your colaboration
Hi. Thank you for this video. I have 2017 cx5 v59 I tried to install and I got "data retrieval complete" message but I can't see any tweaks. Any help
Good video. I may give this a try on my cx3
Unfortunately, Android auto doesn't work well with my mazda 3 2017 ver 59.00. The app doesn't display on the apps menu and can only be launched when connecting the phone via USB. However, when there is an incoming call two things happen: First the AA closes and second the voice call is redirected to the phone's speakers. To make matters worse, the GPS signal in AA is lost when the phone's screen is off, If one is to keep GPS working one must find a way to keep the screen awake the whole time.
Does this still work now.
I just purchased a used 2018 Mazda CX-3 Japanese Version RHD.
Please advise...
Thanks
Hi @mytechliving - Two quick questions:
1. If I install this tweak on my mazda cx-5 2016.5 model, will it effect on my insurance or on my car warranty in any way?
Will the service guys find out that I've installed a thrid party application, when I take my car for service or maintenance?
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for sharing.
I am trying to install it on 2017 mazda 3 but the screen is stuck, could you please advise?
Thanks
Have tried multiple times and can't figure out how to have it install in my Scion IA. I have it in fat32 format and have it all saved to a thumb drive, but when I plug it into my cars USB it never starts the install process.
So i have a 2016 mazda 3 and i updated my firmware to 70.00 and now when i put my car in accessory mode and plug in my usb, it simply doesnt start the prompt. Ive done this before and it has worked but ever since i updated my firmware, the prompt just wont appear no matter how long i wait.
Doesn’t work with that firmware
Can you make a video of the serial cable method? I bought a Mazda recently and got a 59.00.504 system by default (the usb method cannot work with 59.00.502+).
Hey thanks for the video. I'm thinking about maybe getting a new car soon and I'm considering a Mazda3. Whatever car I get needs to have Android Auto. I'm curious... Does this have any annoying bugs that factory Android Auto wouldn't have? One of my biggest questions is does it automatically start Android Auto on startup?
Thanks
What is the result? Does this cause your cell phone's screen to appear on the infotainment screen (mirroring) wirelessly?
Is there a similar install for Apple CarPlay or is the only accessible one at the moment for android.
Using the official Mazda upgrade path you can install both CarPlay and android auto. It requires an additional piece of hardware that I outline in my latest Android auto video. If you go to my website I have the product linked to an Amazon listing for a third party version. With the new hardware, you’ll need to upgrade to the latest firmware then you’ll have it all
Does it void the cars warranty? I have a 2018 Mazda cx 5 and would love to install this. The retail price for installing the new android auto is exorbitant.
Great job, will you support Chinese??
Thank you again for doing these video - they have opened a whole new world of mods for us simple folks. I am having a similar issue to some of the folks (Drew Stegall) where I launch AA in the Mazda CMU and it gives me me the headunit info and shows the black below the text. When i click on that box...it says there is an HTTP error and that the GStreamer failed to load (various bit sand paths it looks like are missing. I have a Samsung Note5 (phone is in USB debugging mode) and a Mazda CX-5 2016.5
I have switched USB ports and tried connected to the CMU via bluetooth with both of those connection points. Nothing has worked thus far. I've tried reloading AA on my phone a couple of times.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to get AA working?
Note: i have noticed the Mazda CMU wont recognize my phone as a USB device. Would that have anything to do with it?
thnx for this video, do you have clue how many mins it will last to prompt the firts message or detect the USB after plug it in?
Jose Miguel Martinez Cornejo se tarda como entre 5 a 10 mins Mike ten paciencia yo ya lo instale y todo perron jajajaja
This sounds amazing! I have a 2016 cx5 with version 70.00.100 NA N, will this work on this OS?
Hello Patrick just one question as I can see in your instruction the lines"
WHICH FW VERSIONS ARE SUPPORTED?:
ALL FW V55, V56, V58, V59 & V70 ARE SUPPORTED" my Mazda3 is 2015 the version is v5.1 so can i install it or it it will not work
Thanks anyway

Should i install android auto app from play store? Or i have to install it like did into the car?
Are you still able to use the knob to navigate the menus?
I have mazda 6 2016 car. When I insert USB drive, the software did not run automatically. I mean nothing is happening when I inserted flash drive. Any suggestions?
