Awesome use of space. Definitely my largest obstacle. Thanks for the tips and ideas. As for your wood and small parts inventory, my late father in law would be proud of you. He always had the stuff to make it happen.
Thanks for the tour. Had my shop for about a year and a half. Acquiring tools etc. I hat my shop setup right now and I'm always looking for other ideas.
Jeff Jones hope it gave you some ideas.
Thanks for the tour Brad. And you're not the only one out there that has a wood hoarding problem....
GuysWoodshop Hahaha, I figured there'd be plenty of guys saying a barely had any wood 😃
Great space to spend time. I can see why you enjoy it. I enjoy all your vids and look forward to more.
I appreciate that, Dave!
Omg those bit drawers are genius! Love it.
Wish I had that much wood in my shop. Nice layout too. Thanks for sharing.
like how clean and organized you are, thanks for the tour!
Vintage Wood Workshop the power of video 😃
Great shop tour Brad! Love seeing how everyone else sets up their shop!
Got Wood Workshop thanks!
Brad, Thanks for the tour of your shop. You have a great setup and I hope to see more videos.
+Doug's Welding & Fabrication thanks!
Brad, thanks for the great tour of your shop.well layer out and I fully understand your upgrade plans. Fun to keep re-engineering! I built your miter saw station (with a few mods to meet my needs) and your downdraft sanding station (on a cart with wheels) and love them both! You are a very generous man to share your innovation Brad, thank you and Merry Christmas!
+Jerry Komassa thanks, Jerry! I totally remember your builds, there are top notch. Merry Christmas to you and your family too!
Nice shop! Thanks for the tour. It's always interesting to see someone's shop.
KSFWG thanks, I had fun making the vid
Brad, it looks like you would have room for a traditional wood working bench right where your rubber mats are, by your existing benches. Nice shop.
+Howard Springsteen that's where I plan to put it!
Well organised mate, one thing I've noticed about a lot of American workshops is the lack of space you have, I think we are lucky in my country to be able to set up large room spaces, keep up the good work 👍
+Dirk Gibbons thanks!
Jay Bates sent me... Super nice shop. Glad I found you - watching your other videos now! :)
+CancerCashew glad to have you!
Love your shop especially the size of your garage, looks to be more like a 4 car size. My shop is 24x24' with 8' ceiling. My problem is I have a wood shop, metal/machine shop combined along with a model shop for large scale r/c boats. that means everything has a place,I find it hard to get rid of good usable cutoff pieces also!
+Leonce LaRouche it's a 2 car but a car and a half deep 31x19. I hear ya on all the scraps and I want to add metal working to my shop too!
OK, Brad, i have watched a ton of your videos. I don't know why this one showed up from 6 years ago. I clicked because i now work out of a 2CG. However, i can't help but note, a lot changes in 6 years, does it not? lol.
Thanks for doing what you do.
Thanks buddy! I really enjoyed seeing your whole shop. Good job 👍 Ron, Littlewierdshop
Ron Doe thanks, Ron! Always appreciate your support.
Awesome space Brad!!! Love the room you have! 👍
Mac n Wood yeah, Ryan I'm pretty lucky!
Thanks for the tour.
Thomas O'Brien you're welcome!
Thanks for the tour. Great setup.
Chris Olson thanks!
Nice Shop! A shop is never finished! lol
Hey Brad, I am in Crossville and if you want to get rid of some of that scrap I'll take it off your hands! LOL!
+Joseph Robbins 😂😂😂👍👍
you've got some nice stuff! nice layout too
+Charles Holland thanks!
Mitre saw stand!! Video or plans on that? Exactly what I want to do. Love the mobility of your shop.
+Andrew Rand thanks, Andrew! Fixthisbuildthat.com/mitersawstand 👍 👍
Excellent! Thank you! Really enjoy your channel, Brad. Your videos and explanations of your work are really easy to follow. Really appreciate that. Keep it up!
Nice and clean! Cool shop tour Brad!
+donny carter thanks, Donny!
you got a awesome shop , love the video . keep em comin
Randy Crim for sure!
I wish I was as organized as you!
You have a great looking shop!
SimpleCove thanks!
Great shop and soooooo clean. :)
RetroWeld thanks, Douglas. It's NEVER this clean during a project.
No worries, thx for the reply
Thanks for the tour, would you happen to have an overhead Layout you could show us?
+Steve sorry, don't have one.
Thanks posting this video Brad, I just got done making your wood storage cart for off cuts and it's it great beginner build. One question I have is about your lighting, what are you using and what changes would you make if you could do it over again?
Brent A I'm using the 4 bulb 4' T8 shop fixtures from Home Depot. I'd probably buy 8' long 2 wide next time and have 4 of those spaced evenly across the shop for more consistent light.
Awesome shop!
Hope there's gonna be a 2018 shop tour.
Cheers
+Leandro I plan on it!
Hey Brad another good video as always. I am buying my first house right now. How did you come up with your shop layout. I will have a 2 car garage and didn't know if there's anything out there to help with layouts. thanks
Tim Buckman just looked at a ton of different shops and took ideas I liked. Then setup as I needed it.
Have you considered USPS flat rate shipping boxes? You could load as much wood as will fit in one and sell them for a “save me from my addiction to wood cut offs price that includes flat rate shipping. Your viewers get small parcels of wood they might not have, and you get space AND a little cash to add an extra or two in the shop. Just a thought...... Nice shop too btw!
I've actually done that before 😀
Dan, You wouldn't happen be in CT would you? I sure could use your input into how to best utilize me shop, its 10 x 16-pretty tiny and in fact I'm getting rid of my walker turner drill press ( 1940's) and keeping my small table top drill press so I'll have more room. It is so congested that I still don't have my contractor table saw set up in a cart yet. Sadly getting thru the holidays..
~Dolly
+CrossGrain Wood Products,LTD Hey, Dolly. I don't know who Dan is...I'm Brad 😃. Unfortunately I'm not in CT either. You should search Google for shop layout images. Should get tons of ideas
Great Shop Tour, if you want to get rid of that wood i'll take it off your hands if you post it to me, then i can make loads of Cutting Boards. I can't really see that happening as post cost would be mad. Anyway great video as usual from you and hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas.
Barry (ENG)
Barry Roberts thanks, Barry! Have a Merry Christmas too!
Great video! Question about your outlet situation - did you have to put in extra outlets in your garage for your shop, or do you use another approach? Like power strips or something similar? Also curious about your lighting. My garage functions as my shop too (well half of it anyways) and lighting is minimal. I saw some good lighting up towards the back(?) of the garage. Was that already there?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm really enjoying your plans and videos! I'm working right now on your grill cart project and it's coming together nicely!
Adlai Lake go check out the blog post. You'll be able to see a lot of those things. And can't wait to see your cooler!
fixthisbuildthat.com/shop-tour-december-2016/
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. What size is your garage?
Thanks! It's 31x19
Thanks for the tour and for all of your thoughtfully designed videos and projects. Your miter saw station could be just what I need. Are there plans available for it?
Also, what's your take on the Rigid Spindle Sander? Has it held up well (remained tight and sturdy) over time?
Thanks again for your channel. 🙂😏
+Greg Smith thanks, man. I do have plans and a blog post here. Fixthisbuildthat.com/mitersawstand
+Greg Smith I don't have an over head view unfortunately. But there are definitely plans for the miter saw. Fixthisbuildthat.com/mitersawstand.
Thanks!
+Greg Smith oh, and the spindle sander has been awesome. No complaints at all.
+Greg Smith and it wasn't you who asked for the overhead shot. I'm screwing this up left and right
nice shop!!!
Nice shop tour I've been following you for over a year with your build articles on other social media so it's great to see the shop. I do enjoy my fliptop cart and downdraft table/box both work out great. I've been looking into the supermax drum sander and I just started looking just wondering how often do you use it compared to say your planer?? Thanks for the tour and looking forward to more of your videos.
Thom spillane appreciate the continued support, Thom! I use the drum sander less, but if I'm doing resawing or cutting boards it's invaluable.
Fix This Build That thank you for the information
And I thought I had a lot of wood! Never a bad thing having too much wood! Awesome shop tour, still love the Flip-Top cart I built from your design, thanks again! Do you see a lot of Craigslist deals in your area? I'm shocked you found the Sawstop and lathe used online. Not a lot comes on the market here in New York that I've seen...but keep hearing a lot of woodworkers scoring some awesome stuff on Craigslist.
Here in the Hudson Valley the Craigslist is always over priced, even the business auction sites I frequent are over priced for good school shop machines/tools.
Long Island DIY I do have a good Craigslist area around here. It was even better in Cincinnati. But the key is to be the first one to see it. They go super fast when it's a good deal.
TechEdFireman - good to know I am not the only one with this problem.
Fix This Build That - thats awesome. I might have to pick up a small trailer for the truck and start looking outside of the NY Metro area! Thanks for the insight!
That's the problem with long island though, it wouldn't make economic sense to pay the tolls on and off the island. I know when I go to visit family down there the stuff people put out on the curb is amazing compared to here.
I like this
thanks!
on your saw stop table saw you don't talk about it much considering how nice it is LOL :) whats the length and power of it? looks like 36 inch if i had two guess with the cast iron top extension?
It's a 36" 5hp Industrial. I don't talk about it much because it's out of reach for most of my audience. And no home woodworker needs a 5hp table saw :) I just got a really good deal on it used.
nice wood shop
thanks!
Thanks for your tour. I was wondering where did you get the plans for the flip stand your planner and sander is on?
+Terry Bjorkman they are my plans. Head over to FixThisBuildThat.com/fliptop
Thanks
You know what, in theory, the planer should work the same upside down
I would love to see someone run their planer upside down.
Matthew Cremona I may have to try that for fun.
not for fun. for science!
Why can't science be fun?! :-P
I'll get right on that!
Should I buy Dewalt 734, 735 planer or Ridgid Planer?
By chance do you have plans for your miter saw cart?
+Luis Figueroa yup! Fixthisbuildthat.com/mitersawstand
Also do you have plans to your folding miter saw stand?
+CCumby007 sure do fixthisbuildthat.com/mitersawstand
Thank you!
I would love to buy some of that wood off of you, i live in clarksville, Tn if you would be interested please let me know, also, where do you buy your hardwood locally?
love it! subd!
+How I made thanks for the sub!
Makes me want to get my shop back up and running ASAP! Nice layout, what's the size of the garage?
Lance's Woodshop I can't wait to see how it comes together, Lance. My shop is 31x19 and I use about 24x19 of it.
I wish I could a nice full size jointer for $300. Where did you score that??
Local Craigslist score! I left in the middle of watching a football game when I saw it posted 😃
Fix This Build That it seems like everything in Utah is junk or way over priced. I get that's the problem when everyone wants a deal. I'm still looking everyday. Someday I'll score an awesome deal.
Love the video, but you can never have too much wood
Maryke Dykhuizen agreed, I just didn't want to be judged so I downplayed it 😃
Can we get an updated one?
Did I see a laser cutter back there? :)
+Lee DeGraff I don't know what you are talking about..... :)
Wood storage? More like wood hoarding. Lol. I'm hoping to get a planer and a ridgid sander on Craigslist. The only problem is the drive to go get some of the tools. It may be 3 hours total of driving for not a big enough discount.
Jonathan Walker Yeah, it's hard to find good deals in some areas.
Time to make some cutting boards
Got one coming soon 😃
How big is your garage?
+CCumby007 19x31
Wow awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. Love the vids. I'm just getting started myself. Keep it up.
Everything in your shop is rigid. (Gigidy)
+Ronald Jonson Hahaha. Thanks, Quagmire
Easy storage fix, remove all items stowed under the title of 'home storage' and presto... heaps of room.
+Luke Johnson Hahaha, I like that idea!
So young looking without a beard :-D
Who dis? 👶
I didn't see a single hand Saw :(
so much "wood" .. lolz
