The company I have been working for almost 3 years now, needed much work on their shop. It's been a constant work in progress the past year since we are so busy... I have based the shop floor plan off of this gentleman's idea of a centered island of machines. Works wonderful.
Beautiful shop! STRONGLY recommend the Oneida Air Cyclone. I have the same dust collector. I took it apart & was able to mount the blower inlet directly to the top of the Oneida cyclone, and mount both of those at ceiling height. The dust falls down through a 5" aluminum dryer vent into a 50 gal drum on the rolling cart that the Shop Fox collector came with. The inlet side of the cyclone connects to a 5" spiral duct that travels across the ceiling, through the center of my shop. A few Y connectors in the 5" line provide 4" takeoffs with blast gates where I need them. The Oneida removes virtually everything from the dust collector & drops it into the drum, and the gags remain clean. I do have to beat the dust out of the felt bag periodically, but I am absolutely amazed at just how efficient the cyclone turned out to be. No more stumbling & fumbling with tubes & switches at floor level! Shop Fox should really offer that collector in a configuration that works with Oneida's cyclone. They're fantastic. It's really changed how my shop works.
I've had this on my "watch later" for about a year and only now finally watched it... am I glad I did! Such a good set up, I'm certainly going to be changing my shop up this weekend! Thanks for the tour guys!
Mine is only a 12'x16' so it's small, but usable. It is a shed, custom built for longevity, and has a ramp so I can locate the table saw outside when weather permits. That leaves a TON of space to move around in. I am thinking of getting the same saw Wayne has in the next few weeks, I currently have a DeWalt Jobsite folding saw but it is a GREAT saw!!! I just truly love the space in front of the blade that a full size saw has on the table. I removed my saw from the folding cart and mounted it on a shop built table on wheels to enable an outfeed table, plus dust collection underneath the opposite end with a shop vac and dust devil collector. I have the same drill press and love it, mainly because of the spindle travel, and since I do make pens I can drill through 4" without flipping the wood or acrylic over. Very nice setup, and it does make me envious!!! Cleanest shop I ever saw also, except maybe April Wilkerson's shop which NEVER looks used!!!
I can watch this over and over. He has my type of OCD shop. Same table saw and the same drawer handles. Fun to see other peoples shops and how much of the same brand tools we all use.
What an excellent layout. Great job Wayne, overlapping the in-feed & out-feed 'dead space' in front of and behind of each tool in your Island. I have seen a lot of shops, and this is one of the most efficient designs I have seen. It has inspired me to rethink my layout. Thank You for sharing.
Wayne, your shop is beautiful! I'm getting ready to set up my own garage shop. I'm going to copy you, Wayne (as best I can given my skill level)! Thanks for sharing.
Great miter work station, so many drawers above and back space below the working level. Got to build myself this design. Thank you so much for sharing, inspirational!
You are right, California Air Compressors are so nice and quite. I purchased one for my demo trailer at work. When I personally have the need to get a larger one I plan on purchasing one. They are priced very nice.
Thanks for this vid. I copied everything about it and have my island setup in the middle of the shop now. It allows for much more free space; no doubt about it. The bandsaw in that dead space location is very smart; the planer finishing on the outfeed table is awesome; the DC in the middle is a no brainer now. Thanks for sharing this and for helping me improve my setup.
Great shop tour. My shop is odd shaped and has lolly columns, which made my layout difficult. The way Wayne clustered his tools makes sense for me and I emulated that in my shop. Thanks!
really love the set up wayne, It makes me want to drop the cash on the incra set. I was thinking of getting a dedicated table but the costs seem comparable to a whole fence.
Hi Mr. Brown. Could you make a video about your table saw and how you assembled and set up the Incra fence, wings and router table? Please😯 Very nice shop! :)
Hi Mr. Brown. Could you make a video about your table saw and how you assembled and set up the Incra fence, wings and router table? Please😯 Very nice shop! :)
Im new to woodworking but have been really inspired by this set up. I like how the island in the middle combines all the major tools. I plan on using a similar concept in my own garage. Thank you for making this video!
In the process of relocating, your shop and Wayne's are inspirational and very informative to resetting my shop up to operated as efficiently and clutter less. ( which I am sure will change as I have a hard time letting go of even the smallest scrapes). Thanks Wayne and Jay
Thanks for this video, Jay. I am so impressed by Wayne's shop that I am using it as a model to outfit and arrange my own workshop. I love the outfeed table, the tool placement is efficient, and the whole layout just promotes an accessible workflow. Very cool. I watched this video back in June and I keep going back to it just to keep my enthusiasm high.
Thanks Jay, for bringing us along to Fancy Pants Garage Shop. That place is cleaner than a restaurant. The simplicity borders on indigenous. Wayne is as happy as a dog in a bun, great job guys. Now to get off of u tub and start mopping.
Jay, thank you so much for posting this. I have a CLEAN SLATE to build out my new garage at new home. This just gave me some really solid ideas. Thanks!
I absolutely love your shop.. you have done a phenomenal job with Space efficiency and getting the maximum potential out of your Machine/tools I'm definitely going to take this design into consideration when building my own shop... Thank you ...
Great shop tour! Love your shop layout Wayne, and all your fancy pants tools. Thanks Jay for sharing Wayne's shop with us. Cheers from Ontario Canada. Larry B
Nice layout. You have given me some ideas on how to arrange my shop. My shop is pole building construction and one of the troubles I have been having is that dead center in my shop is a pole. I think I can do a take on your island idea and have the pole in the center of the island, about where your dust collector is. Thanks for the video. I keep cheez-its by my work bench also.
very nice, i like the idea of vertical storage idea. I have a single garage shop and i think I'm going to change my current movable lumber storage to that vertical storage idea. Thanks for the video Jay.
Awesome shop set-up gentlemen. Wayne, I have almost all of the same tools you have! I love the island setup. I am just in the process of doing my shop (20 x 30) and I was worried about where I was going to put all my individual stations - problem solved! I notice the incra fence that you have - I have the same saw and am not happy with it - I'll check out that and see whether it will solve the issues that I have. Again, thanks to both of you guys......
Beautiful shop. I'd love to completely take over my garage since my truck won't fit in there, but the wife parks in there and with our rough winters up north a garage is great to have.
exceptional layout of your shop!! I have always wondered why so many build complicated holders, drawers and such for shop storage, and can never understand why. Simple is always easy and solid, which you have nailed!!! great n clean shop, mine is always puffed with canarywood
This video earns it's astounding thumbs up/down ratio. There is a lot to learn here for even the most advanced woodworker, in particular how the space is maximized and the storage methods are ridiculously simple. I am sure most woodworkers (I am no exception) who have ventured into shop storage have fallen down the slippery slope of overcomplicating everything. Sure, the end product probably LOOKS pretty, but is it as effective as it could be? Simple is better, because if it's too complex you won't use it, and if you don't use it.... well.... it's only purpose is lost. Great job. Great video.
Hi Wayne, I just saw your interview done on Jay Bates video. Very nicely done. You should be making your own videos! You are a very well spoken woodworker!
thanks guys i have a very similar space to work with and most others have smaller shops with very different designs thanks for going through what you did to make it better than before or narrators shop that seems to much like this but but apparently this shop is lil better organized i have spent hours on RUclips looking for a good layout . some would say that time should be spent in shop but im not ready just yet and hope the time researching will pay off with lil adjustments instead of full out rearranging .
After watching this as well as your shop video's, I changed my setup to the "island", or "pod" in the middle of my shop. I have a 2 car garage shop as well. Thanks for the great uploads.
THat's a great shop. Thanks for taking us on a tour. Now... I just need to find a neighbor like you to come over and help me make my shop more efficient. I know mine totally needs work. However.... it is ever-changing. I have some plans for my little shop. Mine probably isn't half that size. But seeing this does make me rethink how I could set things up. Thanks!
Wayne, go get a furnace blower, mount it to a harbor freight furniture dolly, (item#61899) add a light switch to turn it on and off. I've got one, and I use it daily in my shop. I live in Florida and it not only circulates the air, it makes a 98' day feel nice. Give it a try, you just might like it.
Very nice ! Great ideas Only issue I see is the reading the incra while your setting it on the table saw. I have the same fence and you sometimes need to lean over it to read it. Otherwise I love it. Funny how with a few items moved around space just opens up. Thanks for the tour!
Very neat and well organised but having space too is critical in a work space. Lots of very nice Festool as well as the table saw/router table/bandsaw etc. with the dust collection system. Good stuff!
Beautiful shop - well done Wayne. Jay really loves it and I don't blame him! An ideal layout for future changes. Thanks for the tour! PS - I didn't see no old, fat guy!! lol
By far my favorite shop tour I've seen to date. Excellent use of space and I will plan to emulate when I set up my new shop. Love the "island" with the centralized dust collection for the 4 major tools. What a brilliant idea and saves from having to duct everywhere around the shop. Seems obvious to me now but of course the miter saw can just use it's own dust collection, not to mention the drill press. Can you guys detail what all went in to making the table around the Ridgid table saw?
I like the island of tools idea, saves a ton of dust collector piping madness that I am contemplating doing myself. How do you manage power for all the tools in the middle of the garage like that. Floor outlets? I only see on extension cord going to the ceiling? Would love to know more. I am currently struggling with how to layout my shop and prevent power cords from running all over the place. Thanks

...........maybe. Not sure. Hast to really be worth it for me to move stuff. I'll have to justify the gain vs work involved. Right now it's a neutral situation I think.
loved this video i have a sense of direction for my shop layout now with some changes but still verry useful love your work jay and it a pity Wayne dosnt do videos i would watch his vids for sure
Wayne I'm curious how you extended the table on that tablesaw. I'm looking at getting that saw and I really like how you did that and the router station on the right that's awesome!!!
I watched this video when it was first posted, and I find myself still coming back to it for workshop ideas 5 years later.

Could you make a 2023 version of Wayne's shop. I love his shop so much.
I can really appreciate the attention to detail paid when making those drawer fronts left of the mitre saw. All the grain matches up. 👍👍

hahahaha No clue who he is.
really love the set up wayne, It makes me want to drop the cash on the incra set. I was thinking of getting a dedicated table but the costs seem comparable to a whole fence.
How do you like the ridgid table saw? Does it have plenty of power?
Hi Mr. Brown. Could you make a video about your table saw and how you assembled and set up the Incra fence, wings and router table? Please😯

Good shop and I especially liked the way Wayne had ensured all the grain worked / lined up across the drawers on the mitre station.
Really nice set up, makes me realize how much work my shop needs:)
Shop built saw stop
HAHAHAH UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR FOR ALL OF US!!!
I'm building a new shop and this gives me some great ideas, I love the miter saw station and your tool grouping.
Great Job!!!
Looks great Wayne! Very well organised space.
I wonder if my shop will ever be that clean. Great shop Wayne. Thanks for sharing.
I love this set up. You would never guess that it is only a 20 x 22 space. Awesome look and impressive set up.
Great vid great shop
I have he same Ridgid table saw still stock. Thanks for showing me that it can be upgraded for precision and rotor adaptability. Awesome.
Thanks Jay, for bringing us along to Fancy Pants Garage Shop. That place is cleaner than a restaurant. The simplicity borders on indigenous. Wayne is as happy as a dog in a bun, great job guys. Now to get off of u tub and start mopping.
He cleaned the shop right before I came because he knew we were going to record.
Great setup, Wayne! Thanks for sharing it with us, Jay!
Jay, thank you so much for posting this. I have a CLEAN SLATE to build out my new garage at new home. This just gave me some really solid ideas. Thanks!
This popped up on my feed again...enjoy it every time.
What a great shop, I didn't want it to end, it's perfect!
I didn't watch this video... I studied it. Some great space-maximizing ideas here. Thanks Jay!
Larry B
i wasn't 10 seconds in and liked Wayne already! Nice shop Wayne!
Nice post. That island cluster is a great concept.
I lol’d at the “fridge for water” part. Thanks!
great shop Wayne, thanks for letting us in.

Yes! I love all of your organization. Working on getting there. I’m going to use that miter saw arrangement you have there.
Jay Bates you do love that word EFFICIENT.😂😂😂
thanks for giving him a new nickname. great shop. it's come a long way since I was there last. thanks jay for the videos
Brent is my Son in Law and lives in Nashville. See you soon
I keep coming back to this shop, looks so good!

Trying to do something similar. Wanted to know how he powered everything? An extension cord running to the table saw?
I bought the California Air after seeing it on your shop tour. It is awesome
After watching this as well as your shop video's, I changed my setup to the "island", or "pod" in the middle of my shop. I have a 2 car garage shop as well.
Thanks for the great uploads.
I have a ton of 1/2" plywood sheets left over from Hurricane Matthew... oooh, i see a new project in my future! Thanks, Wayne ;)
Really nice shop! Love the setup. You are not kidding about it being toasty in the garage in Mississippi in summertime!
God I wish I had a garage. I work out of my basement so I'm very envious. And so clean just like yours. Great job. On to the next video.😀
Thanks!
That is why I made a second shop in my basement. Lathe and scroll saw down there and big stuff in garage.
I can see having the lathe and scroll saw somewhere else. Wish I had the space.
Some day though....
Wayne, go get a furnace blower, mount it to a harbor freight furniture dolly, (item#61899) add a light switch to turn it on and off. I've got one, and I use it daily in my shop. Great shop, with well organized thought in mind. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. It helped me generate some ideas for my very crowded 2.5 car garage.
Fellow Mississippi wood worker! Love the channel keep it up man! Love your work!
Good stuff!
Very nice setup, Wayne! Thanks for sharing, Jay.
Very nice shop Wayne. Great video as always Jay
I just got the callifornia air compressor too that I saw on Dema's channel, love it. Fine shop you have there sir! Very nice.
Great setup. My woodshop is about the same size and after watching this it’s time for some changes.
This shop is really really well built!!
Thanks to Wane for letin us see his shop and thank you Jay for the Vid and narration good stuff.
Sweet set up Wayne, very nice! Im a sucker for shop tours. Good commentary jb
What a clean shop. Makes mine look like an absolute mess. Great tour.
So much room for activities!!!
Great tour!, Thanks for showing, I'm in a 11x20 shed , Love both your shops, if I can I'm going to make a mini version :) really dig the tool rack.
Beautiful shop - well done Wayne. Jay really loves it and I don't blame him! An ideal layout for future changes. Thanks for the tour! PS - I didn't see no old, fat guy!! lol
I love the work flow & efficient use of spaces good job....
Nice shop! Well organized and clean!
Loved this video. Great setup.
Killer shop video. Great ideas always come out of your videos.

Meant to say what parts are being used around the table saw, i.e. - the Incra fence system, etc.
a man of few words, of course not J. Bates but Mr. Wayne... just great and a great shop too
Great tour!
Very nice & well organized shop!
Nice clean shop
I learn how to organized with this video
Thank you
Great workspace!!!
Clean and look very functional

Great tour Jay, awesome shop Wayne! A "watch and learn" video. ;-)
Great shop tour! I love his shop arrangement. This vid gave me food for thought. I saw all the great stuff he was making and noticed he only had a Ridgid table saw like from "The Orange Store". I was thinking about getting a grizzly hybrid but knew it would be a little too big for my small 2 car garage shop. After seeing all the stuff he was making with that Ridgid, I decided to go in that direction instead. Just shows what seeing another persons shop can do to your way of thinking, eh? Also, I have a Rikon band saw like his. What is the moving base he has on that? I really like the way it looked with the wheel locks.
Thank you for the shop set up and space saver idea. Needed this.
Very nice shop! Thank you for giving us a look inside! @Jay: am I right, that we will see a movie of you moving some heavy stuff in your shop from wall to wall?
...........maybe. Not sure. Hast to really be worth it for me to move stuff. I'll have to justify the gain vs work involved. Right now it's a neutral situation I think.
loved this video i have a sense of direction for my shop layout now with some changes but still verry useful
love your work jay and it a pity Wayne dosnt do videos i would watch his vids for sure
Great setup! I’m working on my own garage wood working shop. Question, how do you get to the router table?
Nice shop tour! It's great hearing the reasoning for how people have their shop laid out. Your shop seems bigger than his though.
Wow...Wayne's shop is Immaculate..
Neat and well maintained. Way to be....I'm the same way! I have the same bar stool. lol
Wayne I'm curious how you extended the table on that tablesaw. I'm looking at getting that saw and I really like how you did that and the router station on the right that's awesome!!!
Thnx for the tour. I also like the dc in the middle of the island of equipment
