310k original trans and engine on my 02. They built these trucks extremely well. Not a squeak rattle or clunk. Routine maintenance and diagnostic will get any vehicle far, but Toyota really nailed the first gen Tacoma.

If you didn't already know, I think your engine used to have a supercharger on it. That circular cutout in the on the top of the timing belt cover needs to be done before you install one so the previous owner probably had one and just took it off.

I own a 96, with over 200,000 miles on it I just redid the rear Leafs and I'm doing the front end all bushings lower upper control arm ball joints Etc, I agree with him on the Chilton or Haynes manual, but if you want a more thorough better manual go with the actual Toyota service manual you'll spend a little bit more but it'll still save you a lot of time and labor.

@@Dirtbikeskaterbmxkid my rear leaf sucked because like I said it has over 200k on it without powerful compressor it's going to take some work , but we got them off. The actual Toyota service manual help because they're very thorough, and they have all the torque specs the chilton and the Haynes are not thorough and they take excerpts from the actual service manuals but they're not complete. That's why I say it's worth it spending the hundred or so Plus for the actual manuals you can find them pretty decently priced on eBay but like I said you're still going to pay 100 + .
