That was the best 2 1/2 hour drive that his customer ever made. Not only does he show the customer what is wrong with his “new” used truck but he educates us his viewing audience about what to look at on our very own Toyota trucks. It’s pretty obvious that Peter is a good mechanic and knows his trade, but the more important thing I take away from watching his channel is this… he is an excellent Sensai..Japanese word for teacher! There are tons of good mechanics out there turning wrenches and fixing vehicles, but not many can teach others to do it. I immediately went out to my garage and examined my Toyota’s brake fluid. I learn something new every time I view your channel. Thank you Sensai!

I wish I lived near your shop Peter I'd have you look at my Lexus with 2GR-FE. The dealer recommended $5800 of service including $3822 to fix a timing belt cover leak--which is more of a little seep. I don't mind paying for good work but as you say, at the dealer the work is not always the best. I don't blame the techs, it's the bean counters.
This was wonderful! Every minute you can share with us is very much appreciated and worth it's weight in gold. But we know you must also work instead of just film.

When I grew up in pgh. Pa, I had a neighbor who came over from Hungary during the'56 revolution. He was always working on his cars, of course they were Ford's!! He taught me a lot, like how to cuss in 2 languages, but seriously, I learned a lot from him, and listening to you has brought back good memories, as the two of you sound so much alike. Love my 2004 Tacoma, and Olive your videos, keep it up, I'm kaput!

You will understand where the brake fluid went when you open the calipers to make room for the new pads, especially if you've recently topped it up. If every mechanic was as meticulous and knowledgeable as you sir, we would all be driving cars from 1967. Or a few of us diehard cheapskates anyways. Most informative videos I have ever seen. I wish he was closer to Los Angeles. The factory hoses are reasonably priced. PCV and hose need replaced. One can buy a factory kit with the rubber grommet which become very brittle. When I changed mine half of the grommet fell in to the engine. I was freaking out but luckily a neighbor had special needle nose pliers i was able to pluck the piece out. I highly recommend replacing at least the grommet every so often. I did this on my pre-runner 3.4 right after I bought it in 2013. It's a cheap easy thing to do so one day it crumbles in to engine.

Great job...I was waiting to see you inspect the timing belt.... I think Toyota recommends every 100k..Dealer did my tundra at 105k. Oh and you need to franchise your business, I would happily pay extra knowing that caring, knowledgeable service technicians were looking out for me.....again great job, breath of fresh air if ever.
really good vid, BUT I have a suggestion that will help you, there is a brake flued tester (tests the percent of moister in the flued) on eBay, cost less then 10$ easy to use, check it out, good luck

However as much as I love Toyotas, I'm not sure you will gain a sufficient numbers of viewers to do this,unless you include other popular makes of trucks and cars in your videos. I just bought as-is a 95 T-100 with a non functional clutch, which I will be replacing soon . It runs and I looked it over before buying and I'm sure some maintenance has not been done. Idling in the driveway vs. actually driving on the road may show some issues. I had hoped this video was for the 3RZ-FE (4 cyl). It is not ,but found this to be a VERY informative video by a tech who really knows (and CARES) what he is doing. I am still not sure about differences in this engine and mine, but know most will be the same or similar. Not surprised someone drove 2 1/2 hrs. to have him take a look ! THANKS !
I have an 02 with a 3.4 that I bought brand new 12-03-2001. I had to have the valve cover gaskets replaced @ 85k Seems to be a common issue with this motor. It's been a good truck though. only 143k miles on it. I've gotten a lot of great tips from you buddy. Thanks..
Petr, Other RUclips "experts" caution that keeping the brake reservoir at maximum risks spillage when brake pads are replaced. They suggest that as long as the fluid is above the minimum level and not falling rapidly (as would happen with a leak), that's good enough.
Well keeping brake fluid level at the maximum offers some assurance just in case a leak happened. Any skilled mechanic would check the brake fluid level before pressing the caliper much.
By far you are the most thorough mechanic-technician I have had the privilege of performing his craft. You remind me watching a violin master building a violin from start. I would definitely drive from my town to have you examine my 2000 Taco. Thank you for these lessons. By the way, where are located?

I just recently bought a 03 Tacoma Dub cab, short box Prerunner Special edition. Wish I could bring it to you for inspection/ needed work, but living in E. Tenn, I am very far from Calif. Your very detailed video will help ME to do a thorough and helpful inspection and evaluation of various aspects of my truck. I will certainly be looking at other Tacoma videos of yours, especially those applicable to 3.4 l V6, AT, FIRST gen trucks. May also hope to ask questions at some point. AGAIN, Thanks for providing a very informative and well done video, and channel. (my other car is a 2016 Camry SE with the aisin A/Transaxle, and 2.5 l inline 4)
Heating the old rubber line with a heat gun will help to make the rubber pliable for a few minutes, long enough to put the line onto the fitting without tearing the material.
@Toyota Maintenance I have this same model year only Automatic Transmission and White color. 122K miles I am the only owner. Almost 20 years old now. You stated that brake fluid flush depends on area you live. I'm in Colorado - very dry high plains, very hot in summer very cold in winter. My brake fluid looks better than in this video. Do you think I should flush it? Never been flushed. For others My truck has had no accidents or any major repairs ever. I have never been broken down or stranded. I have replaced brakes, belts, timing belt(old one looks new) Oil, filter, air intake filter, tires, wipers, on its third battery and needs a new one. Was a TSB/recall on the water pump at 80k free of charge new coolant everything. No spark plug change, no transmission, crank case, front or rear differential flush. Setting up for that now oh and need to grease my door handle linkage. I guess some break and mine seems to have a bit of resistance to it now. I have a typical crack in the windshield wiper fluid container on the goose neck. Other wise I only have chips and scratches just now becoming rusty, I will do these myself when the weather is nice for rustoleum paints. I will never sell this truck it will be my last vehicle I ever own as I am 60 yrs now, I should be able to run this truck for another 250k or more if I keep it maintained. At 6100/yr or less I will be 100 yrs old and still have this truck. IF you find one, buy it, don't think, just buy it. It may be mine🙂 I paid $27k new SR5 with TRD and Mountain Lift do you think its worth it?
If you spray a little silicon spray on the "male" ends before you repair or replace the rubber hoses. They will go on a lot easier and less of a chance to split when replacing old rubber hoses. Also u can spray the hoses too.

Never bring your Yota to the dealer. The techs have a lot of bad habits and are incompetent to fix your vehicle. I had a brand new 2013 4Runner and took it to the dealer for its first oil change to take advantage of the 2 years or 25000 mile free oil changes. When i went to change the oil again after about 4000 later miles the technician had tightened the oil cartridge housing at the drain plug, freezing the cartridge drain plug to the housing, not to mention loose rock shield bolts. When i finally got the cartridge housing off I had to put it in a vise to get the drain plug off destroying the housing. Fuck the dealer! I do my own oil changes!
Yelp...they have their trainees straight out of mechanic school work in the oil & lube jobs. I had a ripped power steering boot the end where the clamp goes and holds in place. They charged me $135 diagnostic fee b/c they can't just take your word for it. Tech just tried to zip tie the end of the boot in place even though that part of the boot for clamping it in place was gone. Thank God I checked before leaving the stealership. That zip tie didn't hold from the lift back to the parking lot. They said they were trying to save me some $. And it was an additional $300 to take the tie rod off and put in a new boot. Can't trust them. That was an easy $135 for them to zip tie the boot. I bought the boot went and did the job myself, trying to follow the saying 'if you want it done right, do it yourself' for these simpler things.
Just pull the whole filter housing, don’t mess with that drain, replace o-ring etc. It doesn’t make a mess if you are careful. Less to mess with, easier to change.

Dirt on the MAF and intake valve is from the engine breather hose.
Install catch cans on the PCV and engine breather hoses.

Dunno why people ignore the clutch fluid. Having a master cylinder fail on a highway ramp when I was 17 taught me this lesson.

If you spray a little silicon spray on the "male" ends before you repair or replace the rubber hoses. They will go on a lot easier and less of a chance to split when replacing old rubber hoses. Also u can spray the hoses too.

Never bring your Yota to the dealer. The techs have a lot of bad habits and are incompetent to fix your vehicle. I had a brand new 2013 4Runner and took it to the dealer for its first oil change to take advantage of the 2 years or 25000 mile free oil changes. When i went to change the oil again after about 4000 later miles the technician had tightened the oil cartridge housing at the drain plug, freezing the cartridge drain plug to the housing, not to mention loose rock shield bolts. When i finally got the cartridge housing off I had to put it in a vise to get the drain plug off destroying the housing. Fuck the dealer! I do my own oil changes!
Yelp...they have their trainees straight out of mechanic school work in the oil & lube jobs.
I had a ripped power steering boot the end where the clamp goes and holds in place. They charged me $135 diagnostic fee b/c they can't just take your word for it. Tech just tried to zip tie the end of the boot in place even though that part of the boot for clamping it in place was gone. Thank God I checked before leaving the stealership. That zip tie didn't hold from the lift back to the parking lot. They said they were trying to save me some $. And it was an additional $300 to take the tie rod off and put in a new boot. Can't trust them. That was an easy $135 for them to zip tie the boot. I bought the boot went and did the job myself, trying to follow the saying 'if you want it done right, do it yourself' for these simpler things.

Just pull the whole filter housing, don’t mess with that drain, replace o-ring etc. It doesn’t make a mess if you are careful. Less to mess with, easier to change.
Would you want to document doing the radiator, and water pump, timing belt on my 06 sequoia? I would happily bring it down from Seattle
