Given the greatly improved sound quality (which isn't just a product of remixing/remastering) and the keyboard parts sounding like a different brand of synth, I'll infer that this is a re-recorded version, rather that an alternate version that was created during the "After The Snow" recording sessions.

Yes, it happened. They re-recorded it (made it as dreadfully pop as could be) and made a weak, insipid video to go along with it. A few bands actually did that - re-record a great song of theirs to make it poppier and then make a video for all-the-rage MTV. The Psychedelic Furs did that with "Pretty In Pink" and Gene Loves Jezebel ridiculously popped up their killer song "Desire."
