Well my little girl is growing up, Wawa just turned 15 and that means she can get her learners permit to drive so we have to fix some things on her 71 VW Beetle to get it a little more roadworthy. We are going to install new tie rods, a roof rack, headliner, shifter, oil change, adjust the valves, and a lot more. She loves her little car that she saved her money up to buy and we want it to be as nice and reliable as possible for her.

I sent you a picture email of my cat so Squeezy practice painting skills for return just show on your videos see how she coming, i do wood crafts more you work better you get
The small piggy, does really stay that small?
The best I have ever used is 3M super 77 for spray glue comes out in spider web you spray both sides and then stick it together you ain't coming off great for headliners and gluing up shag carpets and vans
I had a 1974 Super Beetle, it had the same interior, black seats, dash and white headliner, same color blue on the exterior, purchased from original owner with 89000 miles on it
I am with you Josh! I have those and 2 of the other ones! I think they are the pro! I wear them all day at work as well listening to music!!
It's awesome and a rare sight these days to see kids hanging out, having so much fun with their dad, doing something creative, making accomplishments instead of being inside texting with their thumbs .
This family rocks!!!
Thank you.. they REALLY enjoy it if it’s their own vehicle
Good to See You Fine Folk’s
Lower front another 2 inches definitely will have that Cali stance. Awesome work Wawa!
@@Sleeperdude they are getting the best start to a bright future considering everything they're learning- all of it useful! There's nothing wrong with being fluent in mechanics. They might be able to teach auto shop by the time they're in hs!!
Rare sight on RUclips?
The joy is Wawa’s face is priceless! I am so happy for her.
I Love how Ralphie helps Wa with her car and teaching her what he's learned. He's an awesome brother! 😊❤
He’s sweet most of the time
I’m sure he is! Y’all have taught him well. Y’all are salt of the earth folks. Thats why enjoy your content so much. Along with all the silliness. 💯😁❤️
WaWa is unique. She has the fingers of a pianist, and at the same time can weld, and maintenance on her car, Josh and Tosh have done a great job teaching her.
Wawa, uncle HomeWrencher wants to remind you to please, pretty please try to remember to cut away from you with a razor blade sweetheart. I learned my lesson as a child, and my daughter definitely did as well. I know you’re careful, and I know you’re learning, but my heart dropped into my stomach several times watching you with that razor blade cleaning that glass, your beetle is coming along beautifully. I know your mom and dad are proud of you every day. I feel like I am proud of you as well. We hope to see you at a future show with your beetle. Maybe this time Dominick won’t be so shy and we’ll talk to you lol love you guys keep up the great work!
Wawa looked so happy it brought tears to my eyes. Great job dad!!
For sure thank you

Love hearing WaWa laugh at herself while working. She has a wonderful attitude about the challenges of auto repair and maintenance.
Thank you
That old girl is going to serve Wawa well! Just tickled to see her coming together! 🥰
Ya'll can be real proud of her. She has a learned a ton of stuff about cars this past year. She is taking the ball and running with it, too.
2 hours of Sleeperdude to watch while I’m “resting” before I go to work all night, count me in!
I love how Wawa doesn't mind getting dirty. My daughter was the same way when she helped me.
She’s a hard worker
Whenever I see a teen drive a stick. It brings a tear. I'm so proud this is on video.
Taught our 15 year old daughter in less than 15 minutes. She listened to me and then listened and felt for clutch engagement. She stalled it once!!
The best show on youtube. been waiting for this all week.
Thank you 😊
Really like how all of you enjoy working together on these projects, Really wonderful to watch.
WaWa is such a sweet young lady. I know y’all are proud. Love the Bug!
How happy does Wawa look,😃 the Beetle is looking sweet .👍👍
The mechanic's uniform just looks right and proper on Wawa. 👌🔧
😊
Wally world Walls! I've got the same one . Keeps me warm on these Alabama winter days working outside.
Just insulated coveralls. I've got bibs and full.
They look like they just came out of bed and started working

Everyone's a critic. 😒
Second week in a row one of the kids steps up to the plate and does a good job taking care of their cars. Wawa is totally fearless and has no problem getting down and dirty. It’s great to see Ralphie helping out. The kids all are such a great help to each other.
The VW Beetle is coming along nicely and I’m sure Wawa is counting the days (if not minutes) when she can get behind the wheel are drive on actual roads. I’m sure she’ll ace the learner permit test.
For sure thank you
Love seeing the 15 year old getting her rite of passage if you will, Dad, Mom and Siblings helping to make it happen. Very Cool, Nice interior up grades and windows resealed at the same time. 👍 Happy Motoring Waw!
Wa Wa please give dad a big hug for all that work. Love yall. Blessing from Texas.
Met my wife 19 years ago on valentine's day. And it was love at first sight. Her sister introduced us.
So cool
Were you dating the sister who introduced you two ? 🤔
@@dans_Learning_Curvein the South, you date your own sister. JK
No she was a friend of mine.
@madmex2k not from the south I'm from eastern Oregon
Let's GO!
Wawa's monkey howls always make me smile... cause she reminds me of my daughter when she was 15.
Looks so good lowered!
Yes all the time
What a Great video and car. Very Happy for Wawa, she is a great hardworking kid and it's awesome seeing the smile this car puts on her face. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Thank yiu
I can't be-leave how much snow you have. I am from Canada and have no snow at all. Very nice to see a family doing things together and doing what interest them. I love your art Squeeze and please never change.
I love it that you teach your children how to drive stick shift cuz these days it's a very rare thing to see.
Been waiting for an update on the bug! Can’t wait to watch it today! Tell WaWa she has great taste in classic vehicles!
Thank you
When i lived in Los Angeles, I had a ‘68 squareback, a ‘64 beetle, and a’69 transporter, they all did just fine on the freeways. Never had an overheating problem. Top speed on all three was about 65…🙂
Ok thanks
An oldtimer tip for that Generator light ; when you disconnect the battery terminals , you may have to reverse the polarity in the generator by using an insulated stout wire ( i use a piece of house Romex ) momentarily touched between the B+ terminal on the generator ( from the battery positive ) to the body of the generator while running .
Old trucks , tractors , and old vws do this .
I enjoy your videos and appreciate that you involve your family .
Love the fact that she is learning so much about her daily driver.
Batting, insulation and liberal application of the heat gun does wonders for headliner installations and greatly reduces the interior noise. That is an exceptionally clean Beetle and deserves all the love! Great videos! 🖖
Check your tyre pressure in the front! At 1.49.43 Ralfie states the tyre pressures at 19 Front and 27 Rear then confirms 27 for the front tyre! (Sorry I'm from the UK) Casings in your case. Also check when you removed the back seat that the wiring to the voltage regulator was not disturbed causing your Dynamo/Charge light to come on.
Father & daughter driving did my heart good....
Another great video! We can all see how much Wawa loves and protects her BUG! I know she will have a great time learning and driving her own car to school and recitals! She is such a good kid,as are Ralph and Squeeze! See yall again next time!
MLLHR
MY MB has bolts for the tires and to put the tire back on, there is a guide pin that came with the car, in the little tool kit, that you screw in and it sticks out so you can hang the tire off of it and get the other bolts started. Then you can pull the pin and get the last bolt in. 🙂
A short pipe nipple fits were the lug goes to hold the tire.
Another awesome video. So funny to see WaWa and Ralphie both trying to take the nut off the tie-rod the wrong way. Live and learn. Lol
Wawa beetle looks so good now happy to see it getting back together
Good looking Super Beetle!! My first Beetle was a 1962 back in 1970. My formative years were filled with Volkswagens. Beetles, buses, camper vans and even a couple of Variants also called Notchback sedans, and a couple of Ghias. Lots of good memories. Wish I held on to some of them. So easy to work on and parts were plentiful from salvage yards and of course J. C. Whitney! Have fun with her.
My Mom had a 72 Super Beetle that they bought in the mid-70's. Never got stuck in the snow. Engine over the drive wheels really helped with traction.
The VW bug brings back memories. The one thing that always come to mind when I see them is the interior smell they have. They all have that VW smell. Great job the Bug looks great!
Yep certain cars have their own smells
Josh and family, I don't usually watch videos this long, but I have been watching the unboxing mail videos and Wawa was getting so much goodies for her VW that just had to see it all put on the car. by the way the VW first came of the assembly line in 1937,it was an attempt to put every one in Germany in a car but the 2nd ww put that on hold. The reason most cars with a black interior have white headliners is the car inside is like a black hole if the interior is all black. The white headliner makes for a much brighter feeling. The VW is a great first car for Wawa, they are economical to operate, light and easy to drive and simple and easy to work on. Here's to many happy adventures out on the hiway. 😎🚙
Another great video. Great seeing work on Wawa's beetle and how she jumps right in on everything without hesitation and doesn't mind getting dirty (or can't help getting dirty). Love what y'all do. Keep up the great work!
Yeah for sure thank you
Wawa’s gonna be lookin real swaggy in that beautiful automobile. Looks great.
Thank you
When Ralphie sets the casing pressure to factory, keep in mind that's factory for '71 casings. Probably bias plys or something. If you have modern casings on an old car, I would go by the casing sidewall and find an appropriate pressure based on their max psi rating. Tried to read through comments for this but there's 2k comments so sorry if it's a repeat.
About time that Wawa's poor beetle gets a makeover. I myself had a rebuilt bug, a 76 SP with rounded windscreen, 5 speed transmission, power steering and aircon. Was rebuilt by a gentleman in Johannesburg. I loved that car!
Josh I hope you don’t take offense, but I would check that shift rod coupling underneath the back seat. Just saying been there done that. Also, there is a shift rod bushing and bracket just behind the shifter in the front. May need greased or replacement. Both are very easy and cheap.👍🙏
Ok thanks for that I will check it
Lots of great memories brought back for me. My brother and I, God rest his soul, would take our orange Beetle to school and do doughnuts in the snowy parking lot. Hope Wawa and Ralphie and Squeezie make memories in hers!!!
That’s awesome thank you
Woohoo! Just watched Sleeperdude, I am so happy you worked on Wawa's VW. The kids are learning so much working with you. Keep up all of the good work. Prayers for the family that all goes well. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you
You're welcome
Just the video I have been waiting on since she got the beetle. My best friend in high school had one and he put a piece of 1/2 plywood in the space behind the back seat to the base of the back window and loaded it up with speakers. The beetle might not have gotten anywhere fast but you knew it was coming. Enjoy that car WaWa. It should last you a long time. Hard to kill an old beetle.
When i get those rusted in pins i just put a long cracking bar and socket and wiggle the nut until it cuts the pin off then wind the nut back and forth as you take off the nut. This will cut the pin to fit the thread. once off locate the end of the pin and punch out or dril out, if reusing ball joint. Far quicker and less stressful too, especially if your not reusing the joint.
Wow finally you get to Wawa's beetle can't wait to see what she looks like when she's all done congratulations Wawa
Thank you so much
Wawa's doesn't like bugs, but will be driving a Bug, totally fits her personality 😂😂😂
Exactly
One thing to check usually before adjusting the valves is retorque the heads they will loosen over time and then the valves get tight and you lose power had this happen to many customers bugs
I was having a really bad day today, then I found you guys. Thanks for putting a smile on my face and lifting my spirits. GOD bless you.😊🚙
Thank you for watching
@@Sleeperdude No problem 😊 👍. Excellent content 👌.
Looks Nice! I suspect when it is all done it is going to look really cool! The interior redo is really nice.
Some of things I would recommend:
* Adding seat belts to keep Wawa safe when she is driving.
* Add a radio to the missing slot in the dashboard
* Removing rust on all the remaining parts.
Pretty cool that you are teaching the family to be good mechanics!
WoooHooo! So happy for you, WaWa! You have a fantastic talented Daddy-O! The rest of the support Crew is pretty RAD as well! Great video! Oh... make sure your roof rack or anything else on top has enough clearance when you are going into a drive through, under limbs and overhangs etc... LOVE IT! *clap* *clap* *Wooo!*
Thanks so much!!
Lol put a few stones in the right front and a few in the left rear. Worked with a prankster. I had so much fun watching him, trying to figure it out. I finally had to tell him after a week he asked me to follow him to his mechanic 😂😂. I had no choice, but to tell him.
👍that would work
Just a safety note. Beatles used to burn down on the freeway because the fuel line grommet in the firewall would get hard and fall out. The fuel line rubs through on the firewall and gas sprays all over the engine. Just keep up on grommet inspections or put a bulkhead through fitting in the firewall. Great show!
Ok thanks 😊
Happened to me!
Wawa has made a great investment. Just shows how these old cars with some TLC can be made great again. Great work from all!
I love this channel. I love that your kids want to learn about these old cars. I taught my son how to drive a stick in a 1967 Army jeep. He helped me build it when he was 12 years old. His first car was a Saturn with a 5 speed on the floor. Hes driven a 1967 Saab 96 with a column shifter as well. WaWa will be way ahead of the curve. Keep up the great work.
I just love that beetle. I had a 1971 super beetle once and loved it. Flat window with struts. Ride over anything. Just always have an extra belt in the front. Just in case.
Right on!
I am sooooo glad glad glad ya;ll are doing this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
I remember when my aunt bought her brand new beetle in 1972 ( I was 7 years old) it was the same color as Wawa's it had the white headliner with the black interior as well. Thanks for another awesome video.
So cool thank you
New subs from Kentucky. We were looking up RV renovations (we’re 30+ yr RV owners) and came across your Mini Wini reno and just loved how the whole family gets involved in the work. We’ve been going back trying to watch a lot more of your families videos on all the Reno’s y’all do whether RV or car. It’s amazing to get to watch a clean family channel were all the family member get involved & work together. Also love all the animals!!🤗
You've got use a tension wrench to tighten the wheel bolts/lugs , a rattle gun is not safe .
Here in the hot Arizona desert we found that using Aeroshell oil, blended for air cooled aircraft engines helped extend the life of those little bug critters. A bit pricey but worth it in the long run. We use it in our Harley's too.
That "BUG" is absolutely beautiful! Awesome pick in cars. Wawa, you will definitely enjoy your ride 😊 ❤❤
Thank you
@Sleeperdude Need to find a microbus to go with the Bug now!😂😂😂❤❤❤
Hey guys I'm a handicap older man I love watching your show makes me smile bless you guys

Much improved VW Beetle is bringing a lot of smiles to Wawa. Great video.
Couldn't agree more! Thank you
Love the Haybox on the roof rack. In case you didn't know, a Haybox is an insulated container used by the military to serve troops in the field fresh hot food
Yes!!
We called them Mermites USARMY 1974-1995
I was Canadian Army cadets and reserves 80-87 and regular 87-92
FYI… the 2 little holes on the edge of the VW hubcaps are for a little tool used to help remove the hubcaps. Amazon has some available. Need to get Wah one or two.
I sent her one of those tools in the fan mail a few months ago. They probably forgot about it. Doyle in Mississippi.
Its easy to dent those hubcaps using wrong tools--four pristine hubcaps are nice! Be careful where you hit em when installing.
That tool should ALWAYS be under the (front) hood so you can always use it.@@nice77mirage
Thanks!
Thank you we appreciate your generosity 😊
❤the long video's & the finishing of the projects. There great on snow, sand,& not to mention "they float like a boat ! God Bless & PEACE OUT YA'LL!!!
When Wa Wa brought in that old Army cooler, I went immediately back to childhood ! Our father had one, we used for years, from filling with Hooligan fish while netting, vehicle support lift, and actual food cooling when hunting moose. Thank You all for a wonderful video, incredible family you have 💝😘🌹🌹
Sorry to hear about your friend getting burnt with magnesium. Yes folks it is VERY flammable! Aluminum powder is too but not as bad as magnesium. I worked in a shop where we sometimes machined both...the owner collected the shavings and once in awhile he would throw a handful into the wood burner. Woosh! light show!. Magnesium is what they use in fireworks to make the bright white displays.
Crazy
So is powdered coffee creamer.
FYI: The Super Beetle had a curved windshield and McPherson front end strut suspension. Regular Beetles had a flat windscreen and torsion bar front suspension. The black seats & door panels are not original which would have been white. Put an insultation pad on top of the battery, the seat has been known to contact the terminals.
Fyi. 70 71 and 72 also had super beetle mc ferson struts before volkswagen going for all beetle curved windshields. I had a 71 super with the flat windshield with the standard dashboard
@@johnollom999 Yeah, they had a couple years of jumbling parts around before they went fully super beetle😂
I had a '72 SuperBeetle with the front struts, and a flat windshield.
As a matter of fact that Sunday evening, this Super Bowl just started. I'm painting a bumper in the garage. Watching you in the garage and going in the house and catching the Super Bowl a little bit at a time.
It's a great day
One of your best video's, it brought me back 30 years ago, working on my first bug, i learned as i went along. You went above and beyond replacing the headliner, though i've replaced frt & back windshield gaskets. I really like baby blue & it should be a blast cruising around those country roads.
Cotter pin tip, pull straight out, don't twist it. The twist action binds it up and breaks.
Ok thanks
Congratulations in advance on your learner's permit, Wawa!
Thank you! 😃
I was cracking up at WaWa laughing getting oil all over herself when she was taking the oil screen out. Sometime it be like that. She is learning to save herself a lot of money on scheister mechanics trying to overcharge her in the future as well. She will just have to call Dad and Ralphie to get any assistance, or just do it herself.
Yeah your right
The trick is to take an RC cola break while the while the oil drains. And always change the oil after a long run especially on an air cooled veedub!
I love the fact that you let Squeezy do her own thing. It's obvious she isn't allowed to run wild, but that's just good parenting. She's brilliant and you foster that brilliance.Good on you for recognizing it. That said, WaWa and Ralphie are no different. They are also brilliant. You give me hope in America. So, thank you.
Thank you we try. We really appreciate your generosity it really helps
This was a fun video. I fell asleep watching it last night and had to finish it off this morning. I am currently re-wiring a 73 Super Beetle for a lady, lowering it, and doing some other things to it, i also have an 89 Vanagon I'm working on. Growing up I was a military brat we were in the Mojave desert in California we had the largest VW salvage yard in southern California, i grew up with VW it's all my dad had. In 89 we moved to Arkansas in a small town and I'm the only guy around that works on VW and BMW. I stay pretty busy. I have some good Volkswagen parts connections if you ever need anything. I just love her little beetle.

We did several experiments back in the 70's and it's impossible not to smile when in the Bug.😀✌️
Great father/daughter moments to remember.
Wawa’s green thermal can that she brought out to strap onto her luggage rack is exactly what the army would use to bring hot food out to us in the jungle in Vietnam. After a week of C-rations and bad water the food was great! Wawa representing for the American veterans!!!
Oh wow that’s a cool story
You can tell Wawa is very proud of her car. I love the VW. It really is a solid old car. Congratulations young lady.
Great video. I really enjoyed seeing you all put a bunch of new stuff on the bug. I hope Wawa has a lot of fun in that thing when she gets her license.
Years ago I had a 1962 VW bug with a roof opening and it was really nice. And of course, I bought this car in Germany when I was in the Air Force. Enjoy it.😊
Just thinking about the paint on the Bug. That original paint on the roof is probably a keeper, I was surprised to see no tape/paint lines when you removed the glass. Maybe painting from the drip rails down is all it needs to heal up the small amount of damage on the car. That would be pretty cool. The look on Wa's face though - so proud. She deserves it. You two have a great relationship.
