Junkyard Rescue 2 Door Fairmont Saved From The Crusher Will it Start?

  • After saving 5 different Fox Body chassis cars from the crusher a few months back we have had absolutely no luck getting the first 2 to from the junkyard running. Hopefully third time is a charm with this 78 Ford Fairmont 2 door Sedan (box top). It has a 200 inline six cylinder engine that is built off the same engine platform that the old Falcon's had back in the day , and the new Australian Falcon's Barra engine is based on. The area that we bought these cars from was very swampy and it appears that these cars may have spent some time under water at some point. Hope you enjoy the video.

I learned to drive at 10. We lived in the city, too. I learned on my Dad's 36 Chevy. He walked to work and left the car at home; so I fooled around with the car. Mom didn't know, but I was very careful, too. At 12, I was chauffeuring my Dad around in his newly acquired '41 Buick. I never had a fender bender until I was an adult.

As you are this far in, maybe the best next step is pull both engines (box-top and seized black) and start making one engine out of two. That would also give you the opportunity to closely inspect internals like bearings etc. and give you a (hopefully) better flex plate.

Bought a lot of cars from the junkyard in my day. Always bought wrecks because you knew they ran before the accident. Love watching you and your family wrenching. My first 2dr Falcon was a 1961 I bought it off a kid in shop class in 1968 for $10.00 sight unseen. He said the motor was blown. This was a Friday got into it with a blown piston. Went to the local wrecking yard and bought a piston and rod. Put it all together and drove it to school Monday morning. My other Falcon was a 2dr 1964 V8 260 with a 3pd column shift that was a sweet ride. I would laydown rubber a block long. I could go on and on about all the rides I had. Keep on doing what your doing.

Hi guys. Back in the early ‘80s I knew a guy who had a Chevy wagon with a 350. His idea of an oil change was to just change the filter and add a quart of oil. Needless to say that’s what his rocker arms looked like when we changed the valve cover gaskets. He was also a big fan of Quaker State oil, which didn’t help matters any.

Things are going downhill fast in this episode:
    - Ralphie's pours seem to be getting further away every day.
    - the Croc craze has consumed 60% of this family.
    - Squeezie has entered her perm phase.
    - The junkyard curse rears it's ugly head again.
    - 24v to the Duraspark has us all concerned.
    The good news:
    - Josh has his MLK Jr moment at approx 12 minutes in...."it's free, it's free".
    - I spotted a blue wagon out on the back 20 that I haven't seen before......either more parts or a video is coming.
    - I (we?) have now seen my first Goat/Cat/Chicken/Pig stampede.
    - Ralphie's cleaning skills are still on-point....it's comforting to know some things can be counted on.
    - WaWa learned her part to play in this family theater is more important than she imagined (key "on" sweetheart).
    - Mom is now captioning her Tosh-isms. It's helpful.
    - I didn't even care if the 6 got running....more room for an 8.
    Another good one, thanks!

The rust in the center is because there was no carburetor on the intake and Rocky was just trying to help you free up the valves he was tapping on with his hooves 😂

I’m a single dad of a 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son, and I can only hope I raise them to be a great as your kids. I’m a gearhead too, and was raised on a farm. Seems like we all have a lot in common 😂

Dude, I worked at a junkyard for years. I bought so many old cars that ran again that we finally went and got our dealer license and started reselling them instead of scrapping them. It was more lucrative to get the pre cat cars running again than it was to scrap them. You just have to choose the right cars. I saved a bunch of really cool old cars. The '71 Torino, the '80 302 Cougar and the '85 Alfa Romeo Spyder convertible were some of my personal faves. I ran the crap out of that Cougar before we sold it. The first step on picking the right car is to make sure that the engine turns over.

I’m from Australia and love my wagons.
My first car was a 1966 Ford Falcon deluxe station wagon, my second wagon was a Chrysler valiant wagon 1979.
Followed later by an 1986 Mitsubishi Sigma hinroof wagon.
Later a Mitsubishi Magna v6 TR wagon...great car.
I have a 1998 EL Ford Falcon Futura Sapphire wagon with factory bullbar sitting in my shed awaiting its fate... great wagon..4.0 litre
Fuel injected 6cylinder auto wagon. Great car just deciding to restore it or part it off.
