RARE 65 Econoline Spring Special! Will It Start?

- Man do we have a cool one for you today. My wife was on Facebook marketplace and found this super rare 1965 Ford Econoline E100 pickup truck that has not ran in years. These are very unique truck with their Falcon platform unibody construction, with straight axle front suspension and mid engine design with forward control. I have always been a big fan of them but have never had a chance to own one until now. Can we get this old 170 inline six cylinder running and driving again after so many years parked?

Wawa's first car maybe?

We are all thinking the same thing
I think you should keep it as factory as possible. Fix the rust holes and make sure it is structurally sound. Make it a dependable daily driver.
Get the paperwork straight.
And then give it to Wawa!
Did you see the way her eyes light up when she looks at it?
She has been there helping you work on it. Watching you work on it from the side. Riding in it all the time.
She clearly loves it.
C'mon man, make it her first vehicle.
Yeah maybe so thank you
Floor would rust out so I put plate back and carpet, was very noisy inside lolol 😊
I love it to wawa
As always, great footage. As rare as this is, this is 100% restoration material. This needs all mechanical, interior, and bodywork done and fresh Poppy red paint. I realize there is a lot of rust, but with only 2000 built and even less remaining, a full restoration is a must for this. It will definitely be worth it. Restoration to factory original as much as possible, and no "patina."
Yeah maybe so on this one
@@Sleeperdude definitely.
I have some 15s from a ranger that will probably fit it with caps
U r real funny,joker
Wahwah is turning into an exceptional mechanic. Giving Ralphie a run for his money. Squeeze is marching to her own beat. It is fun to see y’all working together as a family making memories your kids will cherish. Don’t worry about Squeeze. When you find her participating in something she enjoys encourage her and let her make it her thing. Love you guys and holding y’all in prayer.
I love this little truck. You've got to keep it standard. It screams of the 60s, like Scooby-Doo and the Mamas and Papas! Josh and Tosh you're giving your kids such a great life. They're very lucky. You all are. Lots of love.
Thank you
Josh, I believe you should give this one to Wawa since she loves it and she is probably not far from getting her license. Ralphie is younger and already has a car so I think it's her time. 🙂
Yeah maybe so
I agree 100%
For sure!
@@Sleeperdude WaWaWaWaWa !!!!!
I will have to agree
From the moment you got that engine started until the very end I just couldn't get the smile off my face. What a great little truck. So glad you were able to get it to run. As usual the whole family involvement adds to the enjoyment of all of your videos. 😊
The big smile doesn’t leave Josh’s face either, especially as he drives it around.
Looks like a great first vehicle for Wawa, you could tell how much she loved it.
Love the old advertising, thank you sleeper dude👌😀👍👍
Spider got in through the valve cover ( no gasket ) then down through the intake or exhaust valve. The best family on you tube . Great values and lots of love . Love the Econoline. Thank you SleeperDude family.👍❤️🇨🇦
Josh, you remind me a lot of my father (who passed a year ago Christmas Eve) and watching your videos reminds me of my childhood and watching my dad. I hope to meet you in person and express my gratitude to you for the videos you create. I think God brought me to this channel for that reason. Much love too you and your family! Thank you for all you do! May God bless you even more!
Wow that’s awesome! Thank you so much.
@@Sleeperdude I live about 30 minutes from Lorain Ohio where that was built
Nice score. These are so hard to find. It's a keeper👍
Restore it
Do the bodywork please......
That little thing is so awesome! Don't tell Ralphie, but I'd like to see it with a big ol' Godziller in the back of it! But a truck that rare deserves to be restored to original.
Yea!!
Really enjoyed meeting you guys at Pigeon Forge. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me.
Our pleasure! Thank you
This is one of my favorites! Certainly a Gem right there. I hope to see more videos of this project indeed. Maybe just fix it up nice just to drive it around and take to Car shows etc... As Rare as it is I wouldn't go too hog wild with it. A Keeper for sure!
It may be worth more fully restored, but I think new hoops would jazz it up a bit, I also might ‘improving’ the interior as you did on the F100 with the cow theme. But the exterior I would keep stock, might try to improve the suspension, if possible, but I would keep the solid axle up front as ‘authentic.’ For the power plant . . . a 302? And increase the ratio of the rear differential to get it out of the hole faster. Basically a ‘cruiser,’ not a bruiser, and definitely a sleeper - dude!
I really hope to see you guys continue working on the Econoline. This was a good one, keep working on it!
Hey Josh, I noticed the smoke is clearing up. Rings must be loosening up. Great little truck!! With that age, if your not going with original hoops you have to have Cragar S/S hoops!
You have the best wife, pushing y’all out of the shop, driving like a crazy woman. 😂 I love it.
Thank you
Seeing you fix up these old cars is like bringing history back to life in real life. That Econoline 1961 - 1967 is a piece of history. I was born in 1962 :)
Awesome glad you enjoyed it
Lord, do I really love that truck! My Scoutmaster Art Davis had a green Econoline van and we rode to many scout outings in it. As I remember it ran like a top and pulled a pop up camper. This is definitely a fixer-upper/keeper vehicle --I can see Ralphie and the girls all driving this someday. It is so great to see the entire family to be so enthusiastic about this vehicle. As I recall these transmission linkages were always a bit fiddley. It may need some work. I would go ahead and do the body work, rebuild that engine fix the brakes and make it really nice. The kids really seem to LOVE IT!!!! You can restore the steering wheel with two-part epoxy putty and repaint it white. Definitely keep it close to factory -- replace the wheels with Coker 14" wide whitewall radials. It would win trophies at car shows. Don't lower it, don't modify it in any way. Go back as close to factory stock as possible -- paint, interior, the whole nine yards. These trucks are too rare in this day and time and it would be worth more factory restored.
I feel your pain with Rock auto. I ordered a radiator from them and it looked like Ace Ventura kicked it all the way to my house. And like you said, good luck getting a hold of anyone to resolve it. I believe shipping to return it was more than I paid for the part. Very frustrating. Thanks for the great content! You and your family make my day!
Thank you
Ordered a tank for my Camaro from them a couple weeks ago. No filler neck. Out $60 shipping both ways. I’m done with them.
Im done with Rock Auto 7 years ago...A1 Auto is pretty good.
@@ohcrapwhatsnext A1 Auto does alot of you tube how to videos
This is the car that you please need to do a total restoration, that would be so awesome. 😊 you surprise me every week, sleeperdude.
Ok thanks we might do that
Good luck on finding parts, especially brake parts. The wheel cylinders and brake shoes are available, the drums you might find, but difficult . I found one close by where I live, the problem is all 4 drums are wore beyond any useful life. I passed on the deal.
Good luck regardless what you do with it.
People recommend upgrading the brakes on these FOCs, to disk. I want to see Josh do this, for my benefit.
Whoops! Late at night, had to txt, but used wrong acronyms. 😆
COE not FOC, lol 🤣.
Wawa sure acted like she might like daily driving this when she gets her license. I think it's rare enough and in good enough shape that it needs to be restored back to factory condition. I'm torn though, I love seeing these do wheel stands down the drag strip.
I saw the exact same thing.
Same here … Wawa make it yours
Can you put a Ford Fairlane or Falcon or wagon frame under the van or truck 1960-1968 my is Mike from Cal. Tex me back thank you and God bless you and family??
They don’t have a frame the are a unibody construction. But it is based off the falcon platform
Yes I think you should restore it.
WOW!! I always wanted one of those beasts!! It looks sooooo good! As an aside, I too was "made" in June 1965...coincidence?? I think not 😂
I think not!!! Thank you
Wow thats awesome!!! I recently discovered your channel and it has became about my favorite channel. I live in middle Tn and also use to do body work. Yall keep up the good work!!!
That is awesome! Thank you
That's the kind of find that begs for a restoration.
Love you guys.
Y'all please do a complete restoration on this truck and keep it in the family please please please
Yes it’s super cool
Back in the 60's the front end from an Econoline worked great for straight axle conversions for '55-'57 Chevs. and other door cars. 😎
That's what happened to most of them flat nose fords
When I was 12 years old, I helped my older brother rebuild the engine in a 66 Econoline van he had purchased while helping him throughout the summer working in the junkyard he worked in...Good memories...Hard to believe that was 30 years ago
That’s great

I also urge you to do a full restoration, l knew a guy that had a van with a 4 speed on the column , l think your channel will benefit from showing more bodywork , and doing a full restoration will showoff your skills, and that truck deserves it
Ok thank you
I agree to the fullest.
I think Sleeperdude needs a break from bodywork. He's doing just fine without it. Doing restoration work on rare but nobody cares vehicles is not profitable.
Harvest King is sold at many farm/home stores. Atwood, here in Oklahoma, sells their oil. Great project and relatively easy to work on. Love Ralphies work boots!!
Awesome thank you
That's awesome! I haven't seen one of those in forever! This is gonna be a fun restoration! 💯😊❤
I think you should keep it as factory as possible
I have this same truck, when I was little dad put me a lawnmower seat in the middle until I got to tall, he put a 289 with 2 4 barrels in it, fun truck😂
Awesome
Make it WaWa's first car. 😘👌 An hour and almost 30 mins. ❤

It really is AMAZING how well dollar-store Pine-Sol works in the ultrasonic cleaners. Mix it 50/50 with water and save the 100% Pine-Sol for the seriously tough jobs.
Yes!!!
There is only maybe a handful of these left so I would leave it like it is and restore it as original. Enough of these have been butchered throughout the years so it would be nice to save this one. Love all of the family involvement in these projects, these memories will last all of you for a lifetime.
I can’t get enough of your videos. You are so lucky to have a family that is so supportive as yours. I was involved in a serious accident at work in 2013. I am also a mechanic, unfortunately the accident has taken that all away from me. I can no longer wrench, but it doesn’t keep me from enjoying my car hobby. I just have to teach people how to work on my cars.Whenever I am feeling down about my situation, it helps me to watch your videos. It puts a smile on my face every time. God bless your beautiful family!
It's good to hear that you still can do some work. Keep it up, God will watch over you 🙏.
Oh my gosh that was a fun one. My uncle had the van version. It was so much fun going to the beach in that thing. Perfect little goat hauler.
They are cool
I haven't seen one of those in years can't wait to see how you fix up It was something I couldn't believe it started so easy I like the baby goats 🐐🐐
I know right
My dad had one of these . It was rustier than the Titanic . It was black with old school Cragers on it . Brings back fond memories . Thanks family. His was a 1963 Econoline truck. Yes the shift linkage would hang up from time to time. He'd just rock the whole truck back and forth to get free.
Andrea, I am very acquainted with that shift linkage problem. The little piece that slid between the shift levers was worn and would slip out of the lever for first and reverse. I had to remember NOT to push down on the lever when shifting out of 1st gear or it would hang up.
Wow! I just accidentally stumbled across this video. Brings back a lot of memories to me. I had a sixty three ford Econoline van Back in 1992 and drove it from California to Ohio With my stepfather who just passed away recently. I drove it around for a couple of years until the steering kingpin froze up and the steering box went out. Something I would highly recommend going through if you're going to getting this thing up and running. Awesome family b t w.
What a cool story. I’m glad you found our channel
Dear Sleeperdude family.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, what a great little pickup truck! I especially love the red orange colour on it. Congrats for purchasing and congrats also for a successful first start and even first drive. I hope that you will leave this rare special model Ford Econoline original. Respectively restore it to nearly original condition. The inline 6cyl engine seems strong enough for this light pickup truck. 2) Mustie1 owns a similar Econoline (even the same colour I guess). Unfortunately he stopped working on it a long time ago although he already put a lot of effort and sheet metal into the vehicle. Maybe it's too rust and rodent damaged so that he simply lost interest. Maybe he and/or his vids can provide you with some useful informations?
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved life forms (humans, animals and plants = especially the maltreated grass).😁 ;-)

Thanks for replying and especially for another heart. I always and totally appreciate both very much.

Ralphie's commentary while Tosh was driving had me laughing.
I commend you one a awesome family, and teaching your children how to work on vehicles. I wish I had a father like you. Also having a awesome wife and children probably help as well. Love the channel.
I’ve been watching you all lately and enjoying you all!!! You have great family values and the kids are amazing. You and your wife are doing a wonderful job
I love how knowledgeable you are about cars and that you are willing to share what you know with all of us. And with your kids!!!
I am a 65 year old women and I have already learned so much from you. You are helping me understand engines so much better than before
My dad did teach me a few things but years age girls weren’t really supposed to be interested in cars.
I did learn how to drive at 15.5 and got my license in a Mercedes 1958. Same year I was born. The car was my dad’s baby. I’m so lucky he let me drive it. It was a 4 speed on the column. And dad was always telling me to listen to the engine to know when to shift.
He had it restored with alligator leather seats and wood dashboard plus other wood details. It was a beautiful car painted a pretty creamy white
Anyway keep up the show I’m enjoying it daily!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Tiny Hand ✋️😂🎉 This was a FANTASTIC video and so fun to watch. I always feel like I'm right there with you all! Keep it as original as possible! I live about 30 minutes from the former Ford assembly plant in Lorain, Ohio, where this GEM was built! ❤️🇺🇸💪
I have so many memories of my dad's 65. I spent so much time learning 3 in the tree while parked lol. I'd watch my dad so I thought I knew. I cam still smell that straight 6 and man..... sooo many memories like my first hornet sting from that truck. Cool man!!!!
That’s awesome
Definitely one of my favorite channels. The variety of projects you all work on is exciting.
Lol Josh the ritey titey lefty loosey cracks me up I had a couple ideas to make it easier. I get what Ralphy was saying because he is looking at it from his perspective so pushing/ pulling the wrench towards his right to loosen. Tell him to look at the bolt like a clock and counter clockwise is loosen and vise versa. Maybe that will help lol. Anyway love the truck and would love to see you do a restomod and keep the paint original but upgrade the drive train, suspension, and brakes. Plus get sime 20" hoops and casings and maybe lower it. Thanks for the awsome videos. God bless sir..
Dodge built some very similar, they're windshield was a 2 piece with flat glass , easier to replace and cheaper. I had a 65 Dodge van similar but the pick up would be worth more I'm sure. It was a good dependable vehicle. Slant 6 3 speed manual transmission.
Love to see y’all do a full restoration on this beauty.
This rig is AWESOME. It reminds me of the 2 cab-over Jeep pickups my father had in the 1970s. He rolled them both into a field by speeding around a tight corner on our dirt back road. Yup, the same corner both times. Luckily, I wasn't riding with him when that happened, but he is the person who taught me how to drive...
Thank you
@@Sleeperdude Since we were all young at the time, My 2 sisters sat together in the passenger seat and I actually sat on top of the engine doghouse. Since it was the 70s, seat belts were ignored.
