Dude! You are the only channel I follow that regularly posts hour-plus videos. I both but look forward to and sit through them; no questions asked. I just top off my glass of whiskey, kick my feet up, watch, and am blown away by what you do.
hi im in the uk you move the slide by putting bucket in the ground as push the arm along the slide rails just make sure rails are greased up first happy digging ,love the vids
Hi there! Yeah that's what I read... I find that kinda odd, but I haven never really messed with one... Guess i get the chance now! Glad you enjoy the channel, thanks for watching!
from uk as well seeing that back end brought back memory's one of my jobs on the farm was ditch clearing with one of them old girls driving one at 16 you felt like king of road
It would be a good project but definitely a long-term job to make it work. I would enjoy seeing the project, but it's a decision only you can make. Keep us posted, please.
I completely AGREE!!! That old truck has been more useful than I EVER thought it would, especially for moving all the medium sized machines I 'm always moving! I really want to do a series getting that thing all fixed up and ready for even more to come! I appreciate your watching and commenting, It really does mean a lot! Have a great day!
Because there are ONLY so many hours in a day & only a limited amount of dollars you can devote to this machine, I vote that you harvest this machine for any parts you can use to improve your X model, which you have already a HUGE time, labor, & dollar investment in. Yes, I know you want to 'salvage/save' all the old iron you come across. That is a nobile idea in theory, but it's simply not possible in every case, as you have found out by now. [yes, I'm stating the obvious here, but sometimes it's necessary , so you think about it]. Also, my comments may seem a bit harsh at times, but I do appreciate the energy, drive, and focus you use to tackle these very dificult and daunting projects!
Glad your back if its was down to me I would make a good macine out of the two you have got and sell the parts you do not need ,Save you a lot of grief
I really enjoy watching your videos. I saved this video so I can watch while I sit here on “light duty”. Yep getting paid to sit around, occasionally I get up and walk and stretch. I was involved in bus / pickup truck accident. The driver was drunk and thought he could beat the red light and transit bus. He was traveling 2-3 times the posted speed limit which is 25 mph. I’m thankful I was able to walk away from the accident. They say the driver was traveling at 50-60 miles per hour upon impact. Bus will always win.
The lucas diode might be hard to find. I would look in some of the mg or British car forums. They also used alot of lucas electric parts. Im not sure the amp draw on that circuit but you could look at something like a 1n4001 which will is good for 1 amp. There are diodes available for higher amp loads if you need them.
If this was in my wheelhouse, I wouldn’t mess around with the new machine you just brought back to the shop. I would use that machine for parts only. It’s way to clapped out and will be extremely expensive to be put back in operational order. I also think it would be beneficial to see if the extending hoe could be incorporated into your present machine. You would end up with a nicer machine overall with the 4 wheel drive and the extended hoe feature.
one thing i can recommend is an ultrasonic bath. some are super tiny. you can just throw stuff in them with water and dishsoap and it saves you a lot of break cleaner (and is much friendlier to the environment). :)
That is really cool...glad you got the old girl started and moving! BTW: When it got stuck when offloading from the trailer you could have had the other guy move the service truck forward to scoot the trailer out from under it.
The ability to dig a ditch from one side or at zero clearance is extremely useful in some situations and nice to have in the toolbox so if I was going to only rebuild one I believe it would be that new one. Especially as you have an excavator if I recall correctly so that will do the straight on hoe work better than your older backhoe whereas it too cannot dig zero clearance or from one side.
Out of curiosity, did you try put both the positive and negative to the input terminals on the starter solenoid, instead of relying on the case ground?
Should really invest into a hose crimping machine, I bought a used one, and it's paid for itself very quickly (especially as much as you are going to use it working on these machines).
Yeah I totally agree... I have one, but I only have one die for it, and dies for this machine are EXPENSIVE... I'm definitely still on the look out for another one, you're right I would SAVE a TON making my own hoses! I appreciate you watching!
@@SalvageWorkshop They are handy, but unless you have a lot of hose ends (and matching dies) on the shelf (which costs a LOT of money to stockpile) it's arguably not worth the price. We have several on our farm, but that's because: a) we got them (and the stock of hose ends) dirt cheap, and b) we live a LONG way (think 2.5 hours drive each way) from the nearest place we can get hoses made. Not saying don't do it, but do your sums first. It may only be worth having a limited stock of hose ends/sizes to suit a few very common fittings on your machines, and still getting the larger/more unusual stuff made up for you.
@SalvageWorkshop I was going to suggest the same thing but money I understand. Guess you have to weigh out the long term benefits if you do those Jose's yourself? Thanks
@@SalvageWorkshop you've got a lathe and a mill have you not. Could you make a die set. A friend of mine made himself a set to be used on his press and he reused all the old fitting by cutting off the tube that's crimped and welding a new piece on he is a proper farmer and pays for as little as possible. He assures me he's not had a blow out in 6 years of doing this.
are the swing cylinders the same? you could build 1 backhoe then the other. maybe break them and put the sliding extended backhoe half on the hx front half. good engine and backhoe options while you change ring gears. and dual steering cylinders for 4x4 version.
Unfortunately this machine doesn't have any swing cylinders like my other machine does... it has a large swing unit that moves along the back side to side with the backhoe arm... Trust me if it did have those, I would have already pulled them and put them on the other backhoe! I'm still looking for those cylinders! Yeah it might turn into a parts swap donor, we'll see! Great thoughts, and I appreciate you watching!

I have redone many in my younger years & They used to come with nuts & bolts to hold the bottom on Just make sure you use minimal silicon to reseal it as moisture kills them ! Welcome back Love the video's you do !
*Awesome to see you back 🙂 First off... work out the cost factor to buy in parts, since you know what she will need... then decide if it is really worth it... or just use it for parts.. 🙂 I just love your videos doing up all sorts of old machines... to bring them all back to life.... but there are some that can't be, due to either too far gone or too expensive to buy in parts. But only YOU can make that decision 🙂NZ*
Personally, I would put the hood back on the new back hoe, take the starter off and return it to the other back hoe and park the new back hoe and keep it for a parts tractor. I am really enjoying your channel, keep up the good work. Sam
It makes me so happy to see these old massey backhoes get some TLC. I’m sure I said it on a video from your other backhoe, but I LOVE these massey backhoes built on their industrial tractors. I know next to nothing about anything related to the work you do on this channel, but all I can say is that I'm just really impressed. Moreover, in our current times were so much "content" on social media has very limited value, your content has quite a lot of value to anyone who wants to learn something about how one goes about restoring one of these machines to functional use. Maybe people who know more than I do would be a little more critical (and certainly more helpful to you), but at the very least I see a tremendous amount of hard work put into this video and that machine and an earnest effort to assess whether it's worth moving forward or not with the restoration. Lastly (sorry for the long post), one thing you could do is find a buyer and maybe offer up a "limited warranty" wherein you provide maintenance (and maybe share cost on parts) for a limited time so long as you can film the work for your channel. The danger might be getting tied down to a project you can't let go of - at least for a while... But good "support" is really hard to find these days for anything!

You shall become a wise, old fart to tell all the stories on a winter evening at the fire. Kind Regards
Would be a great project to watch you do up, it sounds fine. My own feeling is any old machine that basically works is worth repairing, maybe not financially but environmentally...
A lot of RUclipsrs use a rust remover called Vapo-Rust. You put it in the inside of a rusty fuel tank. Let it sit overnight, and then empty it out revoming the now rusty Vapo-Rust ( it's still useable many times over). Clean out the tank with water. Repeat the process until the rust inside the tank begins to diminish. Some RUclipsrs put nuts & bolts or anything sharp inside the tank, shake it well. the nuts & bolts or the sharp objects will help the Vapo-Rust in removing the rust a lot quicker. It works quite well too.
Matt. Adrian over at IFarm Wefarm has a cab version of the same type, he's got the same rear set up that you've got might be worth having a look. Great seeing the service truck in action, that was definitely a brilliant find. 👍
Take a look on the internerht, in less than 1 minute I found the swing cylinders available for 307 euros. Shipping would be considerable due size & weight but they are available. If it were mine I would price remaking the bad ones I have vs the cost of buying used working units and get the machine functional. It is not doing you any good just taking up your shop space. Good luck looking forward to seeing both units working again.
Definitely looks like it would be a nice tractor, with some work. I'm not familiar with the Massey Ferguson tractors, the old man had Case. I have an antique Ford N. I need to completely go through my Ford N.
Since no one wanted this second machine, it never would have been restored anyway. You did get the rush from getting it to run. It will better serve giving you parts and to improve your current machine.
On the new relay that does not work. Try hooking the ground from your battery box to the other small terminal. That relay may not have the ground through the body. Some snow plow relays are build that way.
You need to buy a used hose making machine and buy a lot of closing sale hydraulic shop sale ., if your rods are ok you can do the seals , you have enough gear to do all repairs . Great for video content .
I used to be a Massey tech so not the biggest fan of their products but the 50 series are outstanding industrial loaders and I wouldn't hesitate to get one of the hydrostatic versions
The diode number RD 953048 is showing it is a 1 amp car light diode for a MGB / GT or a triumph stag cars this is what the part number you have given comes out with hope it helps you.
