- We bought a 1963 and 1964 Pontiac Catalina from an estate in central Nebraska. Both cars sat next to each other in a barn since the late 80s/early 90s. In this video, I try to get both of the cars running and driving. The 1963 is a 4 door sedan 389 and the 1964 is a 2 door coupe 389. I had more luck with one car than the other! Some steps that were highlighted in the video were tuning the ignition system, rebuilding the fuel sending unit, and other general maintenance. The cars were two of seven that were bought by a farmer and avid Pontiac collector. It sure was a great feeling to hear the old engine roar to life through what was left of the dual exhaust. I was extremely surprised with the condition of both cars, especially the pretty blue interior in both of them. I'm not sure what the future of the 4 door will be, but the coupe will be getting some special treatment in the near future. Stay tuned!
Superb, I'm loving the channel 🏴 United Kingdom 🇬🇧
these videos are badass!! Great for reference for my pontiac, which is hard to find other than in the books.
Great episode! Save the white 4 door!!
She wants to LIVE! So close to starting. I can feel it.
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I love this old-school stuff. Maybe someday I can have a old-school car again.❤
I like your attention to detail and you show the struggles when you're changing parts. Unlike other people who just cut away and tell us I'll will be right back. I'm a new fan 😎👍
Congratulations on the 1964 Catalina. A great in depth video. Still wonder about the missing push rod. Never seen one disappear. Thanks Jeff for sharing your work.
💯👍👊
I wonder if that push rod is in the oil pan?😮😮
New subscriber. Watching from Cebu, Philippines 🌴 Born in Omaha Nebraska 🌽🌽🌽😊
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. Am a 71 year old who worked on Oldsmobiles , many of the systems you worked on were the same ! Like your work very well on repair ! If I may put you lift up it will save you time working on vehicles. Brake work will be much easier. I under stand you have a budget on vehicles but time ( time is money & money is time ) ! I had many technicians work for me & you show a high level to diagnose these vehicles . Work smart not hard ! Am catching up on your videos! ☕️👀😎👍. Happy 4th ! 🇺🇸
I forgot to mention what a great combination of tire and wheel choice you made. Those are my favorite
Cool garage. Kinda gives me that Brooklyn New York old service garage vibes from the way that is looks inside. I like it
Thanks! It was a Willys Overland dealership originally
@ChiefClassics that's cool too! I'm in Toledo, and live near by Willys and Overland Parkways. Not far from the site of the old Jeep-Willys and Kaiser/American motors plant now site of Dana axle manufacturing. 🙏🏻👍🏻
Do not take those cars apart, they are great survivors and deserves to be on the roads,
Fix the rust, repaint, enjoy...
Love those Pontiacs. I missed the boat on a 66 catalina 2dr post with factory 4 speed. Thought about it and thought about it.Decided to go for it and a guy was already enroute from iowa. 😢😢
That's a great looking ghost town, no traffic or people during the test drives. I'm subscribing now,
Good stuff. When I was a kid in 1970s, (58 now) most cars were DONE when approaching 90k. (Kentucky) Rust & rot before 50k. Front ends falling apart. You could buy em all day long for $150-$300. Beaters that needed a lil help but would get my Dad to work and back. He was a Buick man but always replacing engines & transmissions he’d get at local junkyard. Trans went for $75, engines for about $150 & 30 day warranty. He’d fix, buy, sell or trade a bit of everything. Many memories w/ my Pop working on these old cars. (RIP Dad🙏)
Thx for the videos.
I remember riding in my aunts when I was a child. It was like a starship to me at that time.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Sounds like he was a great guy and there is certainly a shortage of those kind of men in this world. Regarding your brakes, you could never get drums today as good as the ones that are on there. Definitely a good idea to turn them
I have always loved the big body Pontiacs, great lines ! And the Keystones don't hurt it at all.
I love old cars, my friend. I wish I had a nice car.🚗🛠🔧🔧
I like your videos , straight to the point. Master Skill set.
Love this Pontiac content!
Your channel is awesome! Great work!
I don't know if it's that BG product or what but that engine is so clean it's unbelievable. And I cannot believe how smooth that thing runs now! Great job!
Second time watcher, watched your last video on the 60' and 59', good stuff...
Couple suggestions though, you pull the plugs to lube cylinders (very good practice) but whilst they're out neglect to do a compression test then speculate and do a bunch of unnecessary work, comp test results will tell you alot before doing a single thing..
Secondly, pour fuel in them don't dribble it in.. You won't start these old girls straight away by waving a fuel soaked rag at them like you do lol..
So cool both of them.
He really does deserve a like and subscribe he didn’t make 10 videos that you have to keep going to the next one and he worked very hard❤
I have the same Craftsman engine analyzer with all the hookups and all the paperwork that it came with!!!
I like your videos, just stumbled upon you last night.
Those old seat covers or to stop you from sweating to the vinyl. They put a little airflow in between you and the seat. They look uncomfortable but they really don't bother you much. They're comfortable enough
I wonder if you couldn't use a 22 boar brush to clean the inside of that tube
The 64 sounds good and thats comeing from a 100% pure ford man
Whatta sweetheart! The blue car with her choppy 3/4 race cam 😂
Totally dig the old Poncho stuff, and this 2 door is like dream drive as is/ build material, BE SAFE, im a new sub 1st time viewer, best of wishes & luck sir!
Internally this car is very good ❤
Long time friend… first time viewer!
I wouldn’t take that car apart , 4 doors are getting popular !
great video, nice job tuning and troubleshooting. looking forward to more videos on it. also congrats on the lift, game changer for sure. i want one too!
Cool old car
Very cool 🤙 have a cammed 64 Catalina
Save that beautiful 4 door! Think of the story behind that car. That little brass plate on the dash says it all!!
love that 64 2 door catalina, would be cool with a 4 speed
I have one of those flex radiator hoses on my S-10 for 25 years now no problems
Damn, love those old Ponchos ! Ol' Dalton over at PBG is a Maniac ( Pontiac) man too, he's got a few good ones too! He just got through doing some work on a 64 Lemans, nice one too!
Hi amigo hoy me suscribi' a tu Canal me parece interesante y soy fanaticos de ls autos de los 50, 60 y 70 h me gusta como trabajas la Mecanica saludos desde Caracas, Venezuela.
couple of great projects there chum!!! I have seen these with 326 cid, but 389 even better ! too many options of what to do is a good problem to have :)
Great channel 👍
I wonder if that ‘64 was ordered with the 4 barrel option. Standard issue was a 2 bbl on the Catalina.
Brings back memories. I had a red Ventura hardtop coupe w/ a black and red interior. Wish I still had it.
Thanks for the nice video. Nothing beats a V8 Pontiac. I used to drive Pontiacs but in those days didn’t know to keep the chassis and frame clean here in Ohio. One of them was a 400 Catalina that I wrecked. Also I appreciate not hearing the f word just because I’m going to watch this with my grandson age 5. You’re shops in Nebraska right? Good luck with the business
12:20 - Yes, that's a seat cover, for summer when your car doesn't have a/c and does have vinyl seats that otherwise stick to your sweaty back and butt. Poor Man's a/c.
Would suggest ohming out used fuel gauge senders before putting them back in. Readings wouldn't necessarily be perfect, but would be an indicator if the thing is working.
Got some front grill stuff for a 64 if interested, enjoying the Pontiac content
Those are called cool cushions. Keeps your ass from getting sweaty in the summertime.
its too nice great family runner do what you have to to get paper work
Really nice pontiac. Got a Texas Speed Chappa Cabbra in her
Thank you for saving these old relics from back when they made real cars , the plastic crap they make today has no appeal in my opinion.
Good morning Bud Great Video if it squirts the accelerater pump still works i learned that from Ya thus AM o rings on it ? I always just bought another 4 barrel floats hanging fire 🔥😮😂 couple small things Lol Thanks have a Dynamite 🧨 day im a 109 year old Plummer
Interested in acquiring one of them..this was my first car...
Doing a good job you should have a good car when you're done
Pro Tip. If you have leaky air shocks, it's usually the o rings in the lines and less often the shocks themselves but you can shoot alittle Fix a Flat into them followed by some air and it will seal them up right away. They will hold air noticeably longer. Cheers.
Save the classics!!
The old girl sounds so mean I love it 😅
Well done just kinda worried about that rod in the motor
New sub first time your channel will be on forever now on your honest opinion of life's issues isn't a big hoax i see in. Your face 😢
At time stamp 38:58 you made a statement about one spark plug still being white , but the others were sort of city black! Please explain to us viewers just what city black means, or where city black comes from!
He said soot,as in clean the soot out of the fireplace.
SOOTY. BLACK.
Even a 64 GTO doesn't hit the cam lick that dose..! How do i know, I had one!!!
i love 63 pontis i had one for 15 years if i didnt live in australia id get that off you
Vinyl seats notoriously cause you to sweat profusely and stick to the seats. Think about how nice those breathable covers are. In the day only.
Hi just curious do you sell any of your PONTIACs time to time
I wish I had that car butiful
As for the black posative and red ground are a old car lovers trick so unless the thife looks they cant steal it with out burning it down
Getting a title is way too easy, and in Kentucky it didn't cost me a dime.
I'm wondering if the blue Pontiac might have a 2- speed Powerglide transmission and not a 3-speed
The seat cover is made to allow air to travel around your body and if you not want it keep me in mind I like to have it
Is there a 20 min condensed version?
Haha, do the Mortske flick, with the points. Haha, that's what he calls it anyway.
whats that blue convertable with double fins?
the seat cover is called a cool cushion.
Hello, my name is Mark. I just subscribe to your RUclips channel. I like old Pontiacs. I have a 66 Grand Prix I am looking for a rear wheel well moldings for the quarter chrome any ideas you?
Dude on that first engine you tried to start just because it turned over you have to make sure all the valve train is working I saw that one not moving started over cranking that poor starter I cringing about but you if that stuck valve isn’t moving all did was bend the push rod and probably wore down the lobe on that cam😮
HOW MUCH FOR THE BLUE ONE?
You’re a transmission will have a problem here to Leigh Hall you’re not getting rocker arms on
I uded to drive thiose old pontiacs i alwasys set the dwell with a allen wrench while the car was running
Drillbit that gas line frozen up on all gunked up tank
Good stuff (SUBd)
i drove cars with drum brakes they work just fine trucks and busses have drum brakes because there good single master with good brake lines are fine i drove them for years
I have to give you lots of respect your like me keep it real none of the. Stupid ls swaps gm should stay gm like ford or mopor mopor
Those old Pontiacs were notorius for having bad timing chains and bad valves.
One thing to look at is that while they do make reproduction parts and a few can be found that have already been started being parted out or are damaged, but they ARE NOT making any more solid and complete survivors.
You say Big Mac is now with his wife. Where would that be??
Plain jane interior, no power brakes, but a clock and a four barrel, shure would like to see the build sheet
Hmm, 3 hours is abot on the long side, not sure... like the cars
Watch Uncle Tony's garage, no title no problem, you can get your 63 legal in Vermont, through the mail, then title there later
They have those sending units but they're kind of expensive they start at 80 bucks
Cant part out that 63
👍
2nd rocker on #2 cylinder isn't moving
One of the rocker arm is not moving
A couple of them r not moving
Trade ya a 64 hood for the 63 hood
Get a Title for your car that a clean car
This is the second time this video has been offered to me by RUclips. And you sir should just step away from the cars. You mess up more than you fix. You don't know what you're doing. And you crank over engines entirely way too much. Don't really want to rain on your parade. I can't find why anybody would like these outside your family and your little internet click. And believe me I wouldn't trust anything that morski has and be very weary of anything he has half-assed and overpriced. But with that being said I got to get this off my TV because I can't take the cranking with dead batteries not accomplishing anything except for tearing up an engine and burning up starters
Who the hell gaps plugs now a days
We car nuts know about any car still has life. Just need to give it chance for rebirth..The overall condition is worth the effort. However you have the last word.
Id just save as is save as is
