Steve Walsh is the guy that is singing Hold On and he sings many of the Kansas hits! Robbie Steinhardt, the guy with the huge hair, is the violin player and shared lead vocals with Steve Walsh. The other guys: Kerry Livgren(guitars, keyboards, and main lyric writer), Phil Ehart(drums), Rich Williams(guitars and the guy in the tuxedo), and Dave Hope(bass guitar). All of these guys are phenomenal musicians! Please react to more Kansas, also Steve Walsh left Kansas after Audio Visions, John Elefante became their new singer, phenomenal as well! Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures were great albums with John Elefante as lead singer, check out Play The Game Tonight, Windows, Crossfire, Fight Fire With Fire, and Incident On A Bridge! ...And when one thinks they have reached the end of Kansas' music catalog, there's Kerry Livgren's post-Kansas solo work with his next band, A.D.
I consider that some of his finest work. He was one heck of a musician and writer. His lyrics grew more & more poignant as he matured in his Christian walk.
Anyone who even has a spark of spiritual inclination is instantly drawn in by Livgren's masterful lyricism.

Steve Walsh had always been up on my Mt. Rushmore of rock singers.
I love Steve Perry, but there was so much soul and raw emotion in Walsh’s vocals.
Quick story: Kansas was going to go with violinist Robbie Steinhardt as lead vocalist (great voice, but darker and not much high end), and Walsh came in for an audition as lead keyboardist to augment Kerry Livgren - the white haired dude who played great guitar and keys, and who also wrote the great majority of their songs.
They loved Walsh’s playing, and asked him if he could sing. Walsh said, “…a little”.😂👍

I first heard Audio Visions at my cousin's place, while we were smoking something illegal as I recall, back around 1982 or so, and I reckoned being in an altered state of mind was more spiritual. (It isn't, in case anyone needs to learn that, ha, ha!) I really liked it and it was quite overtly Christian, as Kerry Livgren had recently become a Christian. Anyway, the lyrics really resonated with me and I especially loved the electric guitar solo on "Hold On." It is so melodic and smooth, yet rhythmic. The sign of a top flight guitarist. Thanks Asia and BJ for this blast from the past that stands up very well more than forty years later. All the great Classic Rock stands up with no help from anything "illegal" and always will. 👌💘😉😇

Outstanding rock and at times a progressive rock band in their early days. I saw them live many years later after their prime and they were still very good.

I burned out, a long time ago, on most of my old music. But never Kansas. I'll love them best, til the day I die.
Vocals, musicianship and lyrics just cannot be beat. Perfection.

Congratulations on reacting to this deep cut from one of my favourite bands.
FYI: The main lead singer, who also plays keyboards, is Steve Walsh. He is the one singing this song. The guy you are referring to, on the right of the photo, is Robby Steinhardt, the bands violinist & backing singer, though he occasionally does sing lead vocals on some songs. Steve Walsh is the one on the left of the photo.

Actually, the lead singer is Steve Walsh, he plays the keyboards, I think you are referring to Robby Steinhardt, the violinist (Big Red) ... he sings backup vocals.

Thank you for reacting to this song. I totally forgot about it. It's been like 30 years. That's why I love reactions. They bring new people in while reminding us oldies of the songs we forgot that we loved....

I think this song is about salvation through Jesus, and His imminent return. "Outside your door He is waiting, waiting for you...sooner or later you know, He's gonna come through, no hesitation and no holding back. Let it all go and you know, you're on the right track..."

He's not the lead singer....that's Robby Steinhardt, co-singer. The voice you're hearing on lead-vocal is Steve Walsh.

Thx for reacting. My daughters boyfriend shared this song with me. While I’d heard of Leon bridges I’d never heard this song. Blew me away. I’m 58. He’s 19. We’re of different races. Figured he’d shared stuff I didn’t like (I’d already shared music he really liked and his parents knew.). This song and video just blew me away. That voice. Redemption. Water. Baptism. Oh my. Did not expect this. Leon Bridges “River” in comments. Gospel-y. Just beautiful. PLEASE PLEASE react to this
