      @@eyesofheimdall6510 I will use mine for smuggling, investigation/exploration, infiltration (bunker type) and sight seeing, but Not bounty hunting or ship to ship combat. (unless it's FPS) The 400i is a runner. It is set up as a very defensive ship with many redundant systems. So many that you can have both stealth and regular components at the same time. In the future we will be able to shut down or switch between the components we want to use. It also has that famous Origin long range, since it is an explorer. I also have a Taurus Caterpillar and Perseus for the rest of the missions.

    I traded a 400i pledge to a 600i, but there are times I miss this girl despite its flaws. Speaking of which, one of the biggest problems I had with the 400i is the aft top turret sticking out ruining the otherwise exquisite rear view. The 600i has its turrets recessed inside the ship until they are powered on. They should have done the same here. Also, you pointed out the floating ramp switch. That wasn't happening in 3.17 when I flew the ship, but back then we had no access to the gun and suit lockers. At least they work now. Thank you for this review.

    I have a 400i, love the ship, but agree it's limited in roles. It's very fast top speed, and is very tanky so you can typically outrun threats long enough to escape. When we can spawn vehicles easily on the ship it'll be nice for ground content. I think it'll mainly be a good daily driver if you prefer non-combat content and don't need a specialist ship. I also think a lot of pvp pirates will just let a 400 go, since the cargo bay isn't very big for loot, and they need a fast snare ship to keep it around.. and basically only light fighters will catch it and they can't hurt it that much as it runs.

      I still can't get over the cost difference between it and what I consider its primary competitors. I just feel like, I could buy 2-4 other ships for the price of this one, and be able to do so much more. Truthfully, I wouldn't be so down on it, if my turrets were at least somewhat functional. It's been more of a pain than my Reclaimer, and that is saying something!

    The point of the ship, other than bling of course, is that it's the safest ship in the game by a long shot. It can easily outrun anything that could remotely pose a threat to it, especially in atmosphere where other ships can be easily shredded. It's meant to be an explorer, and it is absolutely the best ship in the game for that role ... whenever actual exploration gameplay comes along, of course.

    • @eyesofheimdall6510
      @eyesofheimdall6510  Год назад

      I guess. I've heard a few different theories about what makes a good explorer, and this does fit a couple of them. I get the speed to safety idea, I'm just not sure if that is going to be as applicable when master mode flight is implemented. Still a flex ship to me, and nothing is going to change my mind on that part tho!

    • @KaybeCA
      @KaybeCA Год назад +1

      @@eyesofheimdall6510 Master modes will negate her shields when she's running, but by the same token, attackers will have to slow to SCM speeds to fire their weapons, and the 400i has quite a bit of armor (currently health) as well as a ton of subsystem redundancy. Would need quite a few very lucky shots in a very short period of time to stop her in her tracks. Though yes, she's a flex ship currently, which is sort of Origin's bread and butter, lol. If someone wanted function over form, they'd get a Drake ship ;)
      I'm genuinely curious what exploration mechanics will come into play, and especially how radar size, radar count, top scanning range, and scanning tables like the 400i has in the back will actually work within that gameplay loop.

    • @eyesofheimdall6510
      @eyesofheimdall6510  Год назад

      I've got a feeling that exploration is going to have a few different sub-loops, kind of like bunkers currently have a few different loop options. I think that there will be long range true explorers like the Carrack or 600i, and then there will be basically scanner ships ie. the 400i, Terrapin. I've got no hard evidence, (I don't dig through Spectrum or Reddit for possible nuggets) but just looking at the design choices of the ships, and what has been actually confirmed by CIG for different ships.
      At the end of the day, I don't judge anyone for how they spend their money in a game. For me, the price of the 400i will almost never equal the benefit of owning it. I tried to like it, but in it's current state and the foreseeable changes, it just doesn't fit me. Honestly, I don't like the way it looks, I hate the way it handles, it has no cargo cap worth speaking of, and it costs 4x what a Cutlass Black does, and I'm sure it's gonna be at least 2x the price of a C1. I know that a good chunk of that is the specialization tax, but another good chunk is just because it says Origin on it.
      I do apologize for the rant. I got through that last paragraph and realized neither of us is going to convince the other. To close I'll say that I am glad you seem to like the ship.
      p.s. Crusader and RSI are my go to brands for cost-benefit, not Drake. I'm a redneck, not a hillbilly!

    i hope we get a medical variant and maybe something combat related with an EMP or something cool like that
    this ship could be a brilliant platform for alot of jobs due to its insane speed for its size like being able to fly to medical calls faster then any other ship of its size and it could boom and zoom large ships with a large EMP since the ship acts like abit of a corvette class ship

      I'm not averse to either design method. I like the modular idea as a way to save money, and just swap parts if that is the direction it takes. Variants I think are great for more specialized ships, to allow for further narrowing of the focus. I'll be honest, to me there is no way to be sure what CIG is going to actually do, and for sure no way to know reliable timeframes. I don't mind that so much, given the overall openness that they have with their playerbase. This is definitely a topic where being wrong would not bother me in the least. I should stress that I strive to only give out information that I know without a doubt to be true, or direct from CIG.

      @@eyesofheimdall6510 - this isn't really an explorer, no med bay, limited storage, small crew, no long range scanning. Its a ship that would follow the coattails of say a carrack once a new route is established just for the owner to see something new and then travel back to an established base. Being out in the middle of nowhere carrying a ton of gear with SC's ability for literally any inanimate object to kill you is not a prospect I would enjoy at all along with the fact that's its defensive capability is quite limited...saying all that though...I want one, because it looks cool :)

      I'm just not sure how CIG plans to keep this ship relevant. I think with minor tweaks it would be a decent explorer. Maybe a small firepower bumped up one size for the pilot guns, and some minor changes to the cargo bay to either allow more cargo. Another viewer pointed out the defensive capabilities of the ship when it's manned, which does remind me of the Carrack a bit.

    • @eyesofheimdall6510
      @eyesofheimdall6510  Год назад

      The 400 feels sluggish in a way that its competition doesn't. The MSR has a nice smooth acceleration, and considerably better handling. The Connie has much better low end acceleration. For most flights the only time you experience the acceleration is getting out of atmosphere and landing. The 400 doesn't even have the highest max speed of the three. The MSR tops out at 1,287 and the 400 tops out at 1,250. I stand by my statement.

    I'd empty my wallet for a cargo/smuggler 400i with a gutted first floor or they cut the back second floor to stack the cargo hold higher.
    I just don't really see value in exploration ships this small...without a medbay you're just a slightly more efficient regular ship that still can't roam too far because the cost gets too high if you slip up in even a minor way. Forget your helmet and you've lost dozens of hours of travel time.
    Without a medbed respawn (which the 400i could certainly fit) it's a fairly useless explorer that's really just a fuel efficient RV for looking and views and riding around for fun. It doesn't have enough use factor to justify its price point or size.
    With a medical, smuggler, or combat variant the 400i could at least have a purpose that it MIGHT could measure up to and be balanced for...I just think without a medbed it's never going to have a purpose in the explorer market. It's too big to be an explorer snub and too small to be useful as the core of an expedition.
    At MOST it could work as a localized science vessel that can max at like 1 system away from a refuel/repair.
    Otherwise, it's a premiere blockade runner with a bit more SCU to make that worth the risk it would be great. A combat variant is also plausible with bigger guns on the front and focus on agility and speed. A medical variant would also be really cool here maybe being a part of the in-game lore on "premium plans" for the rich.

      When we can store gear in our ships at spawn, you will have full suits stored in them. You won't forget a helmet. And if you're dumb, well CIG can't fix that. :) Time is money and speed is time. Big = slow, as well as a big radar contact.

    • @magvad6472

      @@rhadiem Not when this is competing against the MSR...which is faster, 3-4 times the SCU, and just as equipped. The MSR isn't as tanky but at these speeds with its accell that's not really a huge issue.
      And I think if it can't really be a useful exploration ship, then maybe it should be pushed closer to the MSR in capabilities with more storage and speed.
      But who knows, for all we know exploration is just scanning equipment capabilities and not much else.
