I traded a 400i pledge to a 600i, but there are times I miss this girl despite its flaws. Speaking of which, one of the biggest problems I had with the 400i is the aft top turret sticking out ruining the otherwise exquisite rear view. The 600i has its turrets recessed inside the ship until they are powered on. They should have done the same here. Also, you pointed out the floating ramp switch. That wasn't happening in 3.17 when I flew the ship, but back then we had no access to the gun and suit lockers. At least they work now. Thank you for this review.
I have a 400i, love the ship, but agree it's limited in roles. It's very fast top speed, and is very tanky so you can typically outrun threats long enough to escape. When we can spawn vehicles easily on the ship it'll be nice for ground content. I think it'll mainly be a good daily driver if you prefer non-combat content and don't need a specialist ship. I also think a lot of pvp pirates will just let a 400 go, since the cargo bay isn't very big for loot, and they need a fast snare ship to keep it around.. and basically only light fighters will catch it and they can't hurt it that much as it runs.
I still can't get over the cost difference between it and what I consider its primary competitors. I just feel like, I could buy 2-4 other ships for the price of this one, and be able to do so much more. Truthfully, I wouldn't be so down on it, if my turrets were at least somewhat functional. It's been more of a pain than my Reclaimer, and that is saying something!
The point of the ship, other than bling of course, is that it's the safest ship in the game by a long shot. It can easily outrun anything that could remotely pose a threat to it, especially in atmosphere where other ships can be easily shredded. It's meant to be an explorer, and it is absolutely the best ship in the game for that role ... whenever actual exploration gameplay comes along, of course.
I guess. I've heard a few different theories about what makes a good explorer, and this does fit a couple of them. I get the speed to safety idea, I'm just not sure if that is going to be as applicable when master mode flight is implemented. @@eyesofheimdall6510 Master modes will negate her shields when she's running, but by the same token, attackers will have to slow to SCM speeds to fire their weapons, and the 400i has quite a bit of armor (currently health) as well as a ton of subsystem redundancy. I'm not averse to either design method. I like the modular idea as a way to save money, and just swap parts if that is the direction it takes.
