I just picked up two RX 640 desktop cards. They are Dell brand, with 4GB GDDR5 memory, and GPU-Z shows it having 128-bit memory bus. I would like to see how one of these compare to an RX 550.
I really enjoyed this video, and I already know a couple of people who I'm going to recommend they watch it. Honestly between the rx550 and get 1030, I would pick up the 1030 and overclock it (assuming of course that the Rx 550 isn't on sale for about the same price). What I love most about the gt 1030 is that almost all of the varients of the card (if not all) come with a half sized PCI bracket, so you can take one of those cheap dell, Lenovo,hp prebuilts and toss a GPU inside and boom gaming PC, plus due to its slightly lower tdp it won't put much of a burden on those crappy PSUs that come in prebuilts. Anywhoo thanks for another awesome video😊.
You brought up some really great points Waseem! In the past I've had to use many an old Dell or HP to game on due to lack of money. Not needing the auxiliary 4 or 8 pin connector is a must as well as the slim line fit to get around giant Dell CPU fan shrouds. My previous machine was a Dell and I had to cut a huge chunk out of my GTX 550TI's fan shroud to get it to fit in there. I finally saved up enough to build my own machine but my last two computers all had the types of issues you've described.
I live in India, a Rx 550 is really cost effective here. You can get a Rx 550 for 8800 bucks, Gtx 1050 ti for 16000 and GT 1030 for 7700 on Amazon. Go team red!
chris alonzo then you don’t know if it’s better... it’s not automatically better because it was made by nvidia. Done talking about it, don’t reply I’m not reading your rant
Just built a new PC for my grandparents with a 1030. I usually build PCs with 1080s and up, and my own has a pretty big R9 FURY STRIX , so I felt really weird handling a graphics card smaller than a pencil case.
Hahaahhaha, the thing is tiny, but I actually think it's kinda cute. Don't mind keeping it around for when I just need a display out on a computer and don't need the processing power.
The GT1030 is also a single slot solution - but it would be interesting to see what having the adjacent slot filled would do to the temps. perhaps also for the 2 slot one with something in the next usable slot. At the price point, used cards would also offer another alternative, potentially more power but certainly more power usage for anything which could beat these.
I still find them poor purchases when used cards that are better go for much less than their msrps. The main reason I would consider purchasing one would be for a htpc or low power system.
Sure, that's true, used cards are always a better bet for price/performance, but some people like having full warranties, and they still have their place.
Great for htpcs as they output less heat and use less power. Also will be supported for much longer. I hate when my computer room temps turn desert like with my 980ti in the summer even with the ac running. I picked up a GT 1030 to use in my htpc due to the lower heat output, and decent performance for what it gets used for. Mainly use my GT 1030 for watching movies/twitch/RUclips. I picked up the evga one, not sure if I will over clock it as I have a gaming pc that I use to play games on. Also don't really think I would recommend anyone buy a 1030 for gaming unless they have a really old CPU like a q6600 as a 1030/1050 is about all that CPU can handle without bottlenecking the gpu. The 1030 really only has specific use cases and newer high end gaming isn't one of them. Great for older games/emulators and older CPUs though, will definitely breath new life into an older computer.
I use a GT 1030 in a completely passively cooled HTPC and I love how I'm able to run games as if it was a silent console on my TV. Even though it was built for watching movies and browsing the web. That HTPC is also a file server on my home network running 24/7. Don't ever buy the GDDR4 version of the 1030 though. The GDDR5 version is much faster at the same price.
150 subs plz before quarantine ends please nah. u see rx550 is very weak and cant play really high end games. so that 4gb vram isnt that usefull. gt1030 has more power but just less vram
Is there any difference in RX 550 temperature with and without that black case? GT 1030 hasn't got that case and is open so the heat can go out... What about RX 550? Can it be cooler if you take the casing off and is it even possible to take that casing off?
I needed a card for a low profile i5 machine I build from old parts when work were throwing out a load of old components. Ended up with a quad core 3.3ghz PC with 16GB of RAM for basically nothing, so figured might as well put a GPU in here and use it for some gaming - It was between these two (there's a low profile RX550 as well) but have to say given the overclocking potential bridging the gap a little, passive cooling option on some of the 1030s, and the fact the LP RX550 costs roughly 40-50% more right now (1030s start at £60, Rx550s around £90), the 1030 comes out on top there clearly.
Not having an external power connector is always much better, because is more simplistic and more consumer friendly, and some PC's can't easily replace the power supply, I would be impress with a GT1060 mini that uses similar energy as the GT1030, if they could make the 1060 look alike the 1030 is an immediate buy for me
So what would you go with if you were trying to build multiple computers so your buddies don't have to lug their computers over to your house to play cs or ow or lol/DotA/hots? Using old office HP/Dell computers as the base. I was thinking 80 dollar used PC with a gt1030 for a $150 a piece build. Could load up 5 computers for 750
I bought yeston rx550 4gd5 lp 4gb gddr5 just for 4k60hz but it only gives 4k30hz. I have just also bought hdmi 2.0b cable and benq tk800m 4k-projector. Any advice?
Bro................ i had a biostar 550 bought it new and it blew up while playing minecraft one day its been 3 months and they havent responded with anything or a refund
The Powercolor RX560 is $99 USD (also has $20 rebate on top of that) on Newegg right now, has 4GB of ram, and comes with Quake Champions (if that's your thing). I'd say you could get a much better performance/price ratio with that card instead; if you're in the US anyways. I don't know how the prices compare in other countries.
Would be interesting to revisit this with AMD's fine wine technology, maybe the Yeston rx 550 4gb low profile single slot card. it's a beast for the price.
Did you try to do a warranty claim on the 1050? It should still be covered if it was only 1 year old. ASUS or MSI, shouldn't matter. Will be about the same.
I much prefer your more laid back presentation style that you use now. Isn't it time to do a new budget graphics card roundup, or are you waiting a month or two?
I've had the 1030 for a few months, it's not bad really, i could even run ProjectCars2 on med/high settings w/4gb ddr3 1333mhz ram installed and an i5-4430 processor for company. Worth a punt at £90 in my experience...however my new 1060 6gb w/8gb 1600mhz ram will hopefully work a lot smoother!
watching this 6 years later my RX550 can overclock to 1400MHz with afterburner with just sliders - for double didgit improvment (went from 1071 mhz to 1400Mhz) shows how much amd has improved drivers
I think the TDP of the 1030 makes it especially valuable for budget gamers who are just going to stick it in an ex corporate dell optiplex or whatnot they found at auction, could be a sub 200 AUD/NZD build
Yeah i bought a Dell 3020, i5 8gbram for £40 and a gt 1030 for £60, pays most of what I want pretty easily. But comparing these two is problematic. Gt 1030 is not a gaming Gpu.

+Elijah Tichborne Sure, but the 550 also may not be able to keep many games above the minimum refresh for the Freesync panel. I don't think these are the cards to be paired with variable refresh rate monitors.

don't bite my head off but, wouldn't the 1050 2gb be a better buy? I have seen a few for under $100 then again, you could say "if you go with the 1050 you should just get a 1050ti" or "1050ti? might as well get a 1060" so on and so forth. I just think the 1050 would be better, not too much more money
I ordered a new 2gb RX560 for $89.99 on Amazon a few days ago. I learned that it’s a 14cu model rather than a 16cu one, but it’s the same price as gt1030s and RX50s at the moment. Not sure it was a good buy. Price went back up to $99 after I ordered to.
On my gt 1030, I overclocked my core by 200 and my memory by 600 and I'm mining Zcash at 64 Sol/s running EWBF on Windows 10. Even without overclocking, I was mining at 54 Sol/s. I'm not sure why UFD Tech had so much lower results. Anyone else get higher results like me?
i know im late to the pc race and to the lga 1151 but i think that i will be happy enough with a i7 7700k for several years and only might need to exchange for graphics card since i have seen people running i7 7700 with a gtx 1080ti so im guessing i have headroom without any botteneck i just hope to run smooth 60fps is good enough for me without lag on input wich i have noticed in amd graphics card since i had a gtx 1060 and no input lag
RAY M nice little comparison chart for ya. 1030 =rx550 1050 =rx560 1050Ti=rx570 1060 =rx580 (3gb vs 4gb, 6gb vs 8gb) That's how the Radeon RX product stack compares to the nvidia product stack.
I have a R7 260x, and I managed to get a mild overclock in MSI afterburner on this thing. Core from 1050 to 1200 Mem from 1500 to 1600 And jumping the power limit +8% The resolution it is displaying is at 1440 x 900 @75hz I managed to get more stable FPS with this overclock, and it manages to hold 75 fps at low to medium settings at this resolution (depending on the game). If I brought the resolution down to 720p, I could crank up the settings to medium to high, while keeping that 75 fps In short, I'd recommend an R7 260x if you could find one used... Though I would only use it if you have one on hand and you were building a cheep PC for a friend or family member.

I actually subscribed mainly for those videos (and ended up sticking for the rest)
1050 is maybe $20 USD over the 550. At least 20% more performance.
Some newer games do not play nice with old Nvidia cards. 780 ti is supposed to be like 970 but lately driver falloff is killing it.

then again, you could say "if you go with the 1050 you should just get a 1050ti" or "1050ti? might as well get a 1060" so on and so forth. I just think the 1050 would be better, not too much more money
+actuallywill Yeah, it's a better value for money, but at this price bracket, having $25-35 extra to spend on a system isn't always an option.
makes sense, my first rig was like that, squeezing every penny I could into the system, lol.
Thanks for the response!
Can I use the 1030 with Legacy Bios ?
But are they still viable today tho that's the question I wanna know
or you can just do like me
only play games older than 10 years and done. I have no interest on new games. I found that new games just garbage.
watching this in 2021. 1030 now 110 usd lmfao
Finally a local boytjie who doesnt suck ! Great job. Subscribed.
+Gatvol Fourie Hahahahah, glad I don't suck! Appreciate your sub
It isn't a UFDisciple video without a WootWare promotion. :P
+Greendude439 Darn tootin. Wouldn't be where I am without them. 😁
This guy looks like malcom in the middle. Any1 said that yet?
Dude looks likes he's always trying to shit out a corncob.
i know im late to the pc race and to the lga 1151 but i think that i will be happy enough with a i7 7700k for several years and only might need to exchange for graphics card since i have seen people running i7 7700 with a gtx 1080ti so im guessing i have headroom without any botteneck i just hope to run smooth 60fps is good enough for me without lag on input wich i have noticed in amd graphics card since i had a gtx 1060 and no input lag
not sure both's purpose is i mean 570 580 was expectable as R9 200 300 but
not sure
Wut? Their purpose is to be far cheaper than the other new alternatives. #warranty.
RAY M nice little comparison chart for ya.
1030 =rx550
1050 =rx560
1050Ti=rx570
1060 =rx580 (3gb vs 4gb, 6gb vs 8gb)
That's how the Radeon RX product stack compares to the nvidia product stack.
I like your energy level on this video, although you look stressed this time.
I think that most people that buy these cards aren't looking to overclock. But price is a consideration in a budget build.
True, but they definitely should consider it.
Are you like Linus’s brother or something
Social Exorcism No he is Linus when angry and constipated
Hes is linus after a crack binge..
I need a low profile video card thought of a 1050 but need a VGA and HDMI or 2 hdmi connection
Ugh. There's so many inaccuracies I don't know where to start
I have a R7 260x, and I managed to get a mild overclock in MSI afterburner on this thing.
Core from 1050 to 1200
Mem from 1500 to 1600
And jumping the power limit +8%
The resolution it is displaying is at 1440 x 900 @75hz
I managed to get more stable FPS with this overclock, and it manages to hold 75 fps at low to medium settings at this resolution (depending on the game). If I brought the resolution down to 720p, I could crank up the settings to medium to high, while keeping that 75 fps
In short, I'd recommend an R7 260x if you could find one used...
Though I would only use it if you have one on hand and you were building a cheep PC for a friend or family member.
Naw he looks like a young version of the old man in the "Monster house" movie
Wait, you're from South Africa? Couldn't help but notice the currency. I was just in SA a couple of weeks ago.
768p ???? Where?
Absolutely, we need more low end GPU, CPU, Mobo reviews. Also what GPU is reasonable to upgrade - for example i7-920 powered PC.
Rx 550
he looks like he's in so much pain all the time. like there's a spoon stuck in his esophagus or a snake is slowly tightening its body around his neck... so painful to watch him talk...
in my place both cards cost the same,i will go with rx550 :D
