IMO, with these types of "low" GPU power, "high" VRAM cards, you should lower settings to reach your target frame rate, then turn up textures as much as you can without it affecting performance. It's possible higher textures will lower performance due to memory bandwidth in some games, but in most you should see no FPS difference as you're under your VRAM capacity.
as someone who previously ran this card it physically hurts to see it sitting on the rough concrete as the powercolor version does not have a backplate :( you were a great card !!!
I think it would be interesting to do a video on cards with similar passmark scores, or look up things like the score of an Intel UHD series iGPU and then test any Nvidia or AMD cards that may be older but score similarly and see what's the better overall choice, to keep your UHD or pair it with an older card with similar scoring.
If the CPU is an overclocking chip pairing it with any GPU will allow you to take away heat from that area and allow a higher oc which is potentially higher fps on the GPU depending on the CPU load of the game/load
I even have a small overclock on mine. 1171Mhz core and 1950Mhz on memory and haven't had any issues for over a year. Paired with I5-2400 in an Optiplex 390 Budget Build.

I’m running a ASUS RX550 4GB in my HP 190-0068a. Bought my ASUS RX550 in November 2017 for $139 and am still very happy with this GPU. Previously, the RX550 was in a custom-built AMD A8-7850 powered PC.

hell the 1050 ti here is almost 3 times more expensive. both used to be like 1/3 of the current price a few years ago. Crazy how 5 year old gpus can have such a huge increase on the price
I have this card and I love it very much. When I decided to buy my first pc i choose to look for one which can "run Doom Eternal decently" and a pc with this card was listed online. Best decision of my life so far.
they make a Polaris 21/640sp version of this card, and it ROCKS!!! FSR runs great and it can do stuff with even AAA titles (playing GoW and Baldurs Gate 3 with ease). u got the less desirable version
I paired the 4gb Rx550 with an old i5 661 system. It can surprisingly handle 40-60 Fps at 1440p resolution on some older PC melters of the past like Far Cry 2, Bioshock etc. More recent titles are a little hit or miss, for example I got Doom Eternal to run 60+ FPS with everything turned down to low at 50% resolution scaling of 1080p but the old i5 661 sometimes ends of bottlenecking the Rx550 at certain areas. CS:GO was also another nightmare for the system, I remember playing it 100+ FPS with the same i5 661 paired with a GTX 465 but I suppose updates over the years made the game more demanding, getting a consistent 60 FPS was almost impossible and I gave up on the game. R6 Siege on the other hand ran beautifully using Vulkan api with all settings on low except textures on high at 1080p getting a consistent 60 FPS. This card can certainly revive an old PC you have laying around the house, I even tested it with a Q6600 but the CPU is just too slow to keep up with the card and ends up bottlenecking the whole system, not really fun, a GT 1030 GDDR5 variant would probably a better choice for that.

@@archifps Not necessarily, and that's besides the point. The extra memory has a noticible impact on performance in lot of games, the same couldn't be said about a golf cart with a spoiler lol
These lower end cards often have an impressive amount of OC headroom, unlike their high end brethren. Since it's the 4g model, I'd suggest an OC and showing everyone the true limits of the chip. I've got a 4g 550 that I snuck into my office PC at work, and it OCs like a champ, both core clock and memory.
I recently installed Far Cry 5 in an old system with an HD 7850 2GB as a joke and was amazed at the performance it could do at 1080p LOW. I typed "RX 550 vs 7850" in google and was surprised to learn how slow the RX 550 really is, about 50% slower than the HD 7850. At least the 550 got double the VRAM though.
It's a good little budget card. It's amazing for retro games. I remember when the Radeon 9800 Pro was a beast of a GPU in the high end videocard segment and was recommended for playing Half Life 2 in all It's DX9 glory. The RX 550 probably has around 40 to 50 times the processing power of a 9800 Pro and is considered low end by today's standards. It's crazy how much technology advances. To think in 15 years from now budget low end video cards and even integrated graphics on low end laptops will run circles around a RTX 3090.
@@SanctusBacchus We're actually not. There are other ways to gain massive performance other than jumping to smaller and smaller manufacturing nodes. The hard limits assume our current trend and design methodology remain unchanged, but that's not what will happen. Innovations will continously happen, I mean just look at Apple's M1 Ultra chip for example. It has a lot more performance per watt than the RTX 3090. It's basically integrated graphics that has 50% to 70% the performance of a RTX 3090 while only using like 30% of the power.
Used this card with the i3 7100 through the ending part of 2023 and to say I was super surprised with what the system could handle would be an understatement. An unreasonable amount of titles ran at 2560x1600 near 60. Furthermore, the RX550 is pretty comparable in raw performance to the Xbox One S. One more thing you didn't mention, is that this particular 550 has very healthy overclocking abilities and runs within a small margine of the 560. I'd definitely recommend this over the 750Ti if you account for drivers.
This. I'm upgrading from gt 710 to this gpu and this is the best thing to do. Textures barely affect fps in most games. In GTA I could place textures on ultra and not have a difference of even 5 fps compared to the minimum. Everyone should definitely do that on some games like RDR2 where the textures on minimum look like something from ps2
My 2gb 560de gives me an enjoyable experience. World of Tanks hits 60fps consistently at high settings at 1080p and runs most other games I play at medium
The answer to this question is yes. Since performance above a 1050ti is in the 400-600 range and 1060-2060super level performance is in the 800-1600 dollar range, pretty much any card that can be bought for a decent price will give someone an enjoyable experience. It’s insane I was on best buy a few weeks back and caught all cards in stock in the middle of the night for msrp. I had the money to buy a 3070 or 3080 but I told myself I would do it in the morning to make sure I had everything taken care of. They were gone. And now a 3070 is 1600-2000 dollars. And a 3080 is 2000-3000. And what’s crazy is tons of 3090s are for sale but they are all 3500-4500 dollars. It’s crazy that a w5700 amd professional card is cheaper than a 5700 or 5700xt. Hell it’s cheaper than the 6700, 6800, and 6900xt. You can buy a quadro rtx a6000 (the worlds most powerful graphics card period) for cheaper than a 3090 sometimes. If I really wanted to build a high end system I would do a threadripper pro 3995wx and a couple a6000s. Would cost about the same as a 5950x with dual 3090s.
the RX560 i bought for my sister for only $40 was so worth. It still performs well till today and even the temps don't exceed 70C. Considering that she only plays like batman games, its not much of a problem for her. I think the brand has HIS.
Hello everyone. I don't have that much money at the moment and I need a new card now.Unfortunately, I still own a GT 1030 2gb ddr5 which has always served me well. No; buy a rx 6400 because it's at least twice as fast. But if you can get this 4 GB card for cheap enough, using a custom interlaced resolution it performs okay.

@@darkraft100 only if you can get one for £200 at the moment. it used to be £158 bran new on Amazon. but for current market, 200 is very cheap. you can also try and find the 4gb version for a bit less, as it has same performance and if you're on 1080p, which you should be on this card, then the vram is actually enough for most games. other nice GPUs: HD7950/R9 280 HD7970/R9 280X R9 290 These cards are old, but the r9 280 has same performance as 1050ti, but costs about £70 rather than £150 the 1050ti sells for. r9 290 can be had for £100 and is on par with the rx570/gtx 970. Bear in mind they all use a lot of power so have a good PSU.
0:50 I'd really like to see one of these low end 4GB GPU's compared to a high end 1GB GPU like say an old 6950 and see if VRAM makes as much difference as people think it does.
I mean, between 1 gb and 4 gb, of course there is a huge difference. Except for somewhere above 8 gb. For example 10 gb vram and 20 gb vram won't make a difference in games, but it does matter if you're doing blender animations or something like that.
With a gaming-centered Linux distro, utilizing all the tools/launch options in ProtonGE/DXVK, being smart with your graphics settings, and a controller you'll get a very nice PC couch console.
G'day Random, I've seen lots of reviews on other channels where they have said don't bother with the 4GB version as you will get the same performance from the 2GB one, but that only applies if you are trying to get max FPS in a Fast Paced Shooter with Super Low Resolution, But when you're playing Adventure games the extra VRAM can make a big difference to the Graphical Quality at a Playable FrameRate like you have shown here in games like RDR2, so if you are just building a LowBudget Gaming PC to keep for a long time I think for similar price the 4GB is the way better option
Thanks, While definitely on the budget side of things it still can give a decent experience and it doesn’t need external power which is in my opinion is definitely a plus, I think if you could find one it be a good temporary solution while you’re waiting for a 30 series! I believe the nvidia equivalent is a 1030, it be cool if they did a 4gb 1030 for testing!
When reviewing old cards like these, it might make sense to include some old games (up to half the roster even) as they will run better, in this case maybe Far Cry 3 or similar. People looking at getting these cards new or used, would prefer to know what games it can rather than what it cannot.
I used to game with less than this til Dec 2019, then I got a Rx580, then in November I bought an 5700xt at $660 cad, brand new was so worried it was a bad purchase until gpu prices skyrocketed. Now a 5700xt sells for $1300 cad for used. I made the right choice!
I have a 2gb MSi Aero ITX RX 550 and it still manages to keep up with most of the games I throw at it at mixed medium and mixed high settings at 40 to 50 fps. Granted that I've paired it with the R3 3300x and 3200mhz ddr4 ram
Novigrad is certainly heavy location in Witcher 3, but it stresses mostly the CPU and is not so taxing when it comes to GPU. The best place to test graphics cards in this game is to bake a save at Velen while it's raining at day.
It can play Alan Wake / Alan Wake's American Nightmare in 720p. It can play Tales of Symphonia in 4K. It only cost $100 at the time and replaced the GT 610 that was in the system CyberPower sold to my family as a "gaming PC."
a prebuilt with an old i5 is a great candidate for these cards the AMD pro-wx 2100 & 3100 are just low profile single slot 550s with 2 or 4 gigs of vram & could be found for a good price (at least pre supply shortages)
I have one of these sitting in a closet I bought new couple of years ago and never used. Was just thinking about throwing it in my office pc to use it for some light games during downtime

I just bought a aorus rx 570 4gb and a 550 4gb for 350 Canadian. I feel like I might have over paid but I'm happy cuz I'm coming from Intel hd graphics. the 550 doesn't have a fan so I'm unable to use it at the moment, but it works so thats that. the 570 is working awesome for me
Didn’t expect this card was that bad, i’m sitting here expecting this might have similar performance or even better than a 1050 but i guess i was wrong, amd gpu is not that familiar to me so more videos about their card could be pretty nice
I had this card since dec 2019 and until feb 2021 it did well but started to get mad because warzone couldn’t run at more than 60fps consistent but now I upgraded to a 970 and it’s a good upgrade
Nice, Im also combining Pentium G4560 + XFX RX560 4 GB for my nephew PC, all used parts and it plays latest games I throw at surprisingly well, albeit at native 1366*768 resolution (the highest his 32" TV could handle), Forza 4, Fenyx Rising, Marvel Avengers still looks decent and didnt look blurry on a 32" (I think the TV handle the unbalanced low resolution vs big size quite well)
"can it offer an enjoyable experience" is not an idea I agree with. I've had fantastic experiences(hollow knight, for example) with an old laptop that were not affected by the hardware being awful. Love your videos anyway
In modern games... sure you can run The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind on a GT 210 but it’s not gonna have a good time in GTA V. I think a bit of common sense goes a long way ;)
I used to game on a GTX 1050 and a 3rd-gen i5, and it was a fairly enjoyable experience, even in more intensive games. Not to say im unhappy with my upgrade to an i7-6700k and a 980Ti though :)

Have you considered doing a podcast (can be via RUclips) about computer news or nature or book reviews or or or...?
I would definetly listen to it, as long as it is free. You can always promote a product in the podcast to make money, I wouldn't mind that as long as you make it clear that the next 20 seconds or so is an ad.
2:00 who else played RDR2 before the patch when you could keep getting the gold bar in that building over and over?
I even have a small overclock on mine. 1171Mhz core and 1950Mhz on memory and haven't had any issues for over a year. Paired with I5-2400 in an Optiplex 390 Budget Build.
Going for a similar build myself with an i7 Elite Desk. Just waiting for the card to land tomorrow.
Was waiting for this GPUs video.

Overwatch is an esport title and runs pretty well, CS GO on this Card will be No problem and Rainbow Six Siege will run on this Card tii
this kind of card can even run fine on latest games @30 FPS and 768p (resolution of HD ready TV). RX 560 4 GB I bought for my nephew PC runs even better than I thought before paired with an old G4560 procie
Esports games would run well. Though it could be a good click bait (though I'd hate to see RandomgaminginHD to do click baits)
I play sim/parkbuilders on this card. For racing and high fps games its not the best. Also knowing that the 3600G, 4650G and any 5000G series APU just beats is by default is not the nicest feeling. But Fidelity FX is going to bring support for this card so, here's hoping!

Good video. Still loving my RX 570 8GB and for the games I play it runs just about anything without a hitch.
Good comment. Still loving my Intel HD Graphics 4000
I used to had the rx 570 4 gb and it ead a beast to me.. run the RDR2 at medium-high at 30-40fps... These lower end cards often have an impressive amount of OC headroom, unlike their high end brethren. Since it's the 4g model, I'd suggest an OC and showing everyone the true limits of the chip. Considering I use a 1050ti GPU, I can understand the pro’s and cons of having a 4GB Gpu.
They won't. We're approaching a hard cap.
I'd definitely recommend this over the 750Ti if you account for drivers.
kid: can i get a RX 5500
Mom: we've got RX 550 at home son
For most games
Ideally the textures at high and rest at low for a fixed resolution is imo an enjoyable experience. May differ for others.

Hello Rginhd I hope your having a nice day! :)
and you :)
With a gaming-centered Linux distro, utilizing all the tools/launch options in ProtonGE/DXVK, being smart with your graphics settings, and a controller you'll get a very nice PC couch console.
G'day Random,
I've seen lots of reviews on other channels where they have said don't bother with the 4GB version as you will get the same performance from the 2GB one, but that only applies if you are trying to get max FPS in a Fast Paced Shooter with Super Low Resolution,
But when you're playing Adventure games the extra VRAM can make a big difference to the Graphical Quality at a Playable FrameRate like you have shown here in games like RDR2, so if you are just building a LowBudget Gaming PC to keep for a long time I think for similar price the 4GB is the way better option
5:00 it bring back memories of playing Dying Light on GT710 XD
Thanks,
While definitely on the budget side of things it still can give a decent experience and it doesn’t need external power which is in my opinion is definitely a plus, I think if you could find one it be a good temporary solution while you’re waiting for a 30 series!
I believe the nvidia equivalent is a 1030, it be cool if they did a 4gb 1030 for testing!
