  • Lake Margaret is a beautiful hiking trail that leads into the El Dorado national forest. A refreshing 5.1-mile hike that is an out-and- in trail through the forest, wildflowers meadows, marshlands, and granite slopes. It has a couple of cool creek crossings on logs and a stunning un-named pond. Lake Margaret is a classic high sierra alpine lake with beautiful views.
If you are sensitive to height elevation be sure to acclimate before starting the hike. It is difficult to find the trail at times but just look for the rock cairns to keep you on track. We went on a Sunday and got there early and were the first ones on the trail. On our way back out we passed a ton of day hikers on their way in.
This is as great trail to backpack in and camp by the lakeside. Bring bug spray!
Located off of Hwy 88 between Kirk wood and Caples Lake.
    Beautiful hike!
