Buying a New Subaru in 2024 has just CHANGED!

  • The car market has adjusted and gone are the days of paying full MSRP for a new Subaru. In 2023, Subaru still had short supply of vehicle inventory and buyer demand was up. As interest rates went up, buyer demand decreased which caused Subaru inventory to build. Now that Subaru has more inventory, dealers have started discounting cars to move inventory. Subaru has also recently released new special finance rates that are lower than before to help spur up buyer demand.

I just got a 2024 Outback premium, over $2k off msrp, 2.9% 48 month financing, and a fair price on my trade in. Subaru is smart to keep the inventory moving, and their customers coming back. I am glad I was able to hold out for the deals to come back.

I was reading the Subarus 2019 through 2024 naturally aspirated engines have the plastic Thermo Control Valves (TCV) that are prone to failure. I heard Subaru may be going back to the tried and true aluminum housing and and old style mechanical thermostat maybe in 2025. With that said, I think I'd wait until the 2025 models are out and see if Subaru had gone back to the old style thermostat system. Was looking at a Crosstrek, but will probably wait.

Most Subarus have a 4% markup. Subtract 4% off msrp should get you close to invoice and what you call holdback. You should be able to get a vehicles $1000 -$2000 below holdback. So less 4% - another 1-2k.

Before you buy know this. Their batteries are A MAJOR PROBLEM. It takes them 3 batteries to figure out that you have a parasitic drain. Mine was hopefully fixed a month ago. Will see. My car only sat a day and died. I also had to get a new radio which only the extended warranty covered. It's a headache on how to keep it clean. 1st it was spray the rag then wipe. Now No windex period. I didn't let the car wash people touch it and it still had to be replaced. Plus both my front side windows needed fixing. It's a 2018 with only 29,000 miles on it. I just drive to work and back now.

I purchased a 2024 crosstrek that met the same fate within 2 months and 2000 miles on it. It was not totaled however I have been without a car since January because no parts available or on back order to fix it. Not true. Just use Subaru's VIP program and you will get your vehicle at dealer invoice or possibly (this was true at one time) 2% below dealer invoice. Best subaru finance rate still requires a very good credit rating and short terms. The VIP program requires ordering a car (not taking it off the lot). A dealer can choose to match that program terms though. Dealers are reluctant to talk about the program to buyers who do not already know about it. Same for Alex.

I understand Subaru switched from an old tech thermostat to a problematic thermo control valve for regulating the cooling system on all naturally aspirated FB25 engines on 2020-2024 models. I heard Subaru is going back to the more reliable old tech thermostat for 2025?
This affects all Forrester, most Outbacks, and upscale Crosstrek's and Imprezas. Could you please clarify? I currently have a 2015 Outback purchased new with 150,000 miles on it and only 2 repairs, both rear wheel bearings.

I currently own multiple Subaru's, however I'm discouraged by the CVT failures and really do not like all of the black plastic. I thought I would be buying an STI which was discontinued so I ended up with a Challenger Scat Pack Widebody. It seems Subaru has changed in more ways than financing. I'll keep hopeful when I'm ready to replace one of my current Subaru's.

I scooped a 2024 Forester Premium with OP 15 (pretty sure that's the best optional package the Premium can come with) for $30,800 financed at 0% APR for 72 months.
Came in the color I wanted, interior color I wanted, all the features I wanted, all-weather floor mats pre-installed (I think that's normal for Subaru, I'm not sure), but like... I'm still stoked. Turo in los angeles has a number of this generation outback, but the only one with the turbo engine is the wilderness. What was the worst car sold in America?
Subaru 360 (North American version) (1968-70)
The first Subaru model sold in America, the 360 had an MSRP of $1,297 and was marketed with the slogan "Cheap and ugly does it!" The 360 was a commercial failure in North America.
