HELLO Bats888! American here. I heard you say you have never fired an AR15. As an owner of multiple AR15s and 2 BRN180s. Comparing my 18.5 inch BRN180 on BRN180 lower with a traditional AR18 flash hider to my 20 inch Colt Sporter with A2 flash hider I would have to say the BRN180 is lighter recoiling. Both are running milspec 5.5lb triggers. Now comparing my 16 inch BRN180 to my Sig M400 running a midlength gas system with H2 buffer using a Criterion barrel is massively different. Because even though the Sig M400 is correctly tuned the BRN180 is way more soft shooting then the M400. Both are running Surefire 3 prong QD flash hider and Geissle SD flat face combat triggers. Currently built a 10.5 inch AR15 and holding onto a 10.5 Gen 2.5 BRN180 upper but having trouble finding a BRN180 lower now that they have been discontinued. Will be more then happy to update you when I am able to locate a lower and conpare. Hey, don't mean for this to sound like hate but as a larger individual how do you find that affecting your shooting and movement with firearms. Reason being I've only seen youtubers with slim/muscular builds. Cheers

Most bigger guys have extra muscle to deal with the extra weight, so it's not a problem.
Why do you have the charging handle retained the same way as the 50cal MG or the old C5 MG? No threads; just break it open and Half cock and pull the charging handle out of the slot. Or have a spring ring instead of a threaded shaft.
I had no problems finding the magwell. But I also wasn't under any stress like someone in a competition would be. If you plan on using it in competition, it may be worth it.
Look for DPMS Gen 2 or SF308 charging handles. They're shorter than AR10 handles and longer than AR15 handles, they just need some minor dremeling to work.
The original Raven is the Raven 9, a 9mm blowback PCC. The direct impingement uppers are not a new rifle, just conversion, that don't share the same receiver or BCG as an AR-15. Because of that, it did not need a new FRT number from the RCMP. It kept the non-restricted status. It doesn't always make sense, but if you can establish lineage to a non-restricted or restricted rifle, it probably won't be prohibited.
@@bats8888Exactly, because the upper is different from an AR15, this gun isn't an AR15. It may look similar but it's absolutely not, and that's the only reason the RCMP allows it. If they just copy/pasted an AR15 and called it something else it wouldn't work, like when the RCMP reclassified the AR-Like shotguns
We're at a point where any further bans are unlikely, and even if they do happen, they will likely be reversed when the CPC wins the next election. Its already been admitted that the May 2020 gun confiscation won't begin until after the next scheduled election, which is basically saying it's never happening. If they can't even do that they aren't getting the rest of the semi-autos. It's just too impractical and too difficult. If more gun bans come, it will be years from now after the CPC loses government.
While I agree in principle, this is a deeper conversation on Canadian manufacturing. I may make a video in the future on the state of Canadian manufacturing.
I think it would be a scripted video (the first I've done). I wouldn't just look at this rifle, I'd look at Canadian manufacturing as a whole. It wouldn't be an hour, hopefully somewhere around 15 minutes.
You never want issues with any gun, especially when you’re paying +2k. Still teething issues aren’t uncommon with new designs. Given our legal situation in Canada with ARs I’m still happy to have bought my Raven. If we don’t support companies like Lockhart eventually we’ll be stuck with nothing more than single shot 22s. Not saying that gives them a free pass to sell junk, but it looks like they’re pretty good for sticking to their warranty.
I don't have any personal experience with the R18. From what I know, the R18 is the best 180 variant, but it's still a 180. I don't think the R18 is bad, but I think the Raven has a higher ceiling.
You know why they banned the AR? The government doesn’t want the average citizen to have a really good rifle. Had nothing to do with public safety. My Colt MRR I could hit 18” gongs at 500 yards with my red dot. I can only get 6” groupings at 100 yards with my X95 and an LPVO. Fuck how I miss being able to use my AR. These Canadian complaint ARs fucking suck!
It's different than an AR bolt carrier in its length and width. In practice, it works the same way, it's just technically a bit different. Different enough to not be prohibited.
You’re correct that centrefire semi auto rifle magazines have a 5 round max capacity - HOWEVER: What he’s using there is a 5.56 pistol magazine, well two of them technically. And since it’s originally designed for a handgun, it can legally hold 10 rounds. Canadian laws, eh? *please note that I am not a lawyer nor do I claim to be knowledgeable on the law. This is just from my personal knowledge and I may be wrong, although I’m fairly certain of it*

Where did you buy this rifle? I like to buy this as well.
Direct from Lockhart, but they have long wait times. Otherwise, just google the rifle name and try to find one.
@@bats8888 Thanks.
$2500 after tax for the only AR15-like direct impingement rifle on the Canadian market, which is somehow non-restricted.
Shhhhhh don't give the govt any ideas
I put a 20 inch barrel on mine
Loctite
Did you fix the last round bolt hold open?
Yes, I have now. Just a small file to remove the deformed metal.
Are you worried about the raven getting banned?
Its the one thing stopping me from buying
We're at a point where any further bans are unlikely, and even if they do happen, they will likely be reversed when the CPC wins the next election.
Its already been admitted that the May 2020 gun confiscation won't begin until after the next scheduled election, which is basically saying it's never happening. If they can't even do that they aren't getting the rest of the semi-autos. It's just too impractical and too difficult.
If more gun bans come, it will be years from now after the CPC loses government.
For the price of the Raven, these issues are unacceptable.
While I agree in principle, this is a deeper conversation on Canadian manufacturing.
I may make a video in the future on the state of Canadian manufacturing.
@@bats8888 do you really want to make an hour long video on how shit it is?
Well said.
what are your thoughts with this going head to head with the sterling arms r18
I don't have any personal experience with the R18. From what I know, the R18 is the best 180 variant, but it's still a 180.
I don't think the R18 is bad, but I think the Raven has a higher ceiling.
I found the R18 too heavy and the price point doesn't provide better accuracy.
locktight the charging handle my dude....
if you do that you will have to fight with locktight every time you want to remove your BCG as the charging handle screws into it
Did yours not come with a top charging handle?
No, I didn't order it for the 5.56.
Do you think it is worth getting the buffer tube weights?
They are reasonably priced IMO. You may be able to make the cycling a bit smoother, so it's up to you if you want to try thatm
@@bats8888 Solid, thank you. Great video btw!
What did you have on your x95?

What is the moa?
Brass deflector necessary for Lefties?
You know what, ya maybe. It is quite an aggressive ejection. Look at the 3d printed one on gunpost, it's way cheaper.
Is the bolt carrier group and fire control group mill spec?
The bolt is an AR bolt, the bolt carrier is proprietary. The fire control group is milspec.
Is the cutout the hammer moves through the same dimensions and such as a normal ar bolt carrier though?
It's different than an AR bolt carrier in its length and width. In practice, it works the same way, it's just technically a bit different. Different enough to not be prohibited.
Would you recommend this or the bcl srv2
I haven't handled an SRV2. But from what I have seen, the Raven (being more AR compatible) has the higher ceiling.
So can someone explain to me how he has 10 rounds in each half of the mag? I JUST got my PAL & I’ve always been told it’s a 5 round maximum
You’re correct that centrefire semi auto rifle magazines have a 5 round max capacity - HOWEVER:
What he’s using there is a 5.56 pistol magazine, well two of them technically. And since it’s originally designed for a handgun, it can legally hold 10 rounds.
Canadian laws, eh?
*please note that I am not a lawyer nor do I claim to be knowledgeable on the law. This is just from my personal knowledge and I may be wrong, although I’m fairly certain of it*
@@h.ar.2937 lol what a sick loophole🤣 so this has to be the first rifle I buy. I was gonna buy a gsg16 bc you can have a 110 round drum on it but that was bc I wasn’t interested in reloading every 5 rounds. 10 is so much better🤣 thanks for the info bro, would’ve never known
@@Nightfall-TCG All good - please do double check about that though.
Also this isn’t the only gun that can take this type of ammo, so you may have other rifle options with that type of magazine - it’s called the Cross AR15 Coupling Pistol Magazine. Each one holds 10

Where does one find that butt stock?
It's called the "BATTLELINK Minimalist."
What optic is on it

which optic are you running?
Feyachi V30 red dot and Cabela's Covenant 1-8x LPVO.

Is this gun now prohibited by legislation?
No
is this go to war reliable?
I wouldn't say so. The only guns that are (that are available in Canada), that you would want, are the Bren 2, SL8/G36, and Type 81
@@bats8888 and Tavor?
Yes, forgot that
did you buy brand new or a blem?
Brand new Raven 9 and then a brand new 5.56 upper
What feyachi dot is that the V30 2 MOA ?
And how is it ? Was gonna buy one while I wait on my 1-6
A great red dot for range use. I wouldn't trust my life on it, but I have 3 and has no problems.
Youve got a lot of of experience behind rifles brother. You should know better than to ride that charging handle home!
Ya, it wasn't great. It is partly my fault, but it's also partly the charging handle design. If I was too quick on the release, it could turn the charging handle and make it lose.
Just another over priced unreliable Canadian made rifle.
Dont be a lefty😂
modify your mags not your gun dude.....omf
That's not technically legal. And the mag wasn't causing problems, the faulty bolt catch was.
Very sad that Canadians got gimped
