      @duncancharmanangling1136 very much Duncan. You've got it just right. The balance between light harted banter, telling how it is at the venue, without being pessimistic,
      And great tutorial. On earlier videos, you mentioned the best time of day to fish. Why you prefer not to use a close face reel for trotting , I could go on, but importantly, that comes from a depth of experience, not some "Johnny come lately"

    Awesome video
    I see so many people fishing for pike and really haven’t got a clue
    Even simple things like an unhooking mat
    This fish might have sharp teeth but definitely need the care they deserve

      Hi Ian, Im guessing the camo waterproofs trousers you refer too are the Nash ones....unfortunately they're not waterproof, shower proof maybe.

    Duncan.....can I ask as a professional angler your opinion on single hook fishing vs snap tackle? mention pros & cons of deep hooking vs hook pulls....thanks in advance

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Paul, Its a really hard one but I think if you have watched all my videos I have on occasions talked about this. Two hook traces in the right hands 99% of the time are fine, sensitive indication and strike immediately, in the wrong hands, not good! Single hooks, circle hooks I've played with and yes striking immediately fish are missed so once again very dangerous in the wrong hands as I've seen anglers wait ages before striking.
      Lets hope this one doest go into overdrive, if snap tackle was banned tomorrow I'd give it the thumbs up, just like dropping lead and the use of leadcore, but in the hands of a competent angler these are fine, in the wrong its a totally different situation.
      Hope this helps...

    Nice video Duncan as always. Just wondering if you've ever toyed with semi fixed leads for pike. You were talking about resistance with the float. I've been using korda lead clips for normal deadbaiting for 10 years and found pike don't seem to mind and the runs more positive. Also find i get less deep hooked fish and less dropped runs. Complete opposite to what a lot of pikers do, but works. Worth trying on one rod, see what you think.

      Hi Ben,
      Its something I will take a look at this coming winter,

      @duncancharmanangling1136 try it on one rod and see for yourself. Just takes a leap of faith. Eliminates a host of problems too, like lead separation when casting distances, eliminates a lot of tangles. Also been using the korum bolt and run kit. Does the same job. Find the takes are so positive and can't remember last pike I deep hooked. I mainly have the lead on a weak link and pop up, handy on Rocky irish loughs. Only thing that can snag is the lead and that snaps

    You really should have an up trace when float fishing, especially with Livebaits which will swim up to at least the length of the trace.The uptrace can be wire or a suitable high diameter flourocarbon. As you mentioned an uptrace is also required for any form of paternoster,

    WHY ARE SMALL PIKE CALLED JACKS? THANK YOU

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi Nigel, small pike are called Jacks due to the males not reaching the size of females (a big male pike is probably no more than 10lb). I actually googled it so a very good question. If you google it, it will explain more!

    Live baits can catch ANY pike. It's complete rubbish to say they attract mostly jacks! 😂

    • @stephenridd6834
      @stephenridd6834 Год назад +1

      Would be fair to say that livebaits attract MORE jacks though! If you want to catch larger pike then deads will be 10x more effective....
