Avon Pike Project 4 - The sunken float paternoster
In this video, part 4 it just goes to show that even when you manage to get in a noted spot, it doesn't always mean fish in the net. Should I stay, or should I move was the feeling going through my brain on this occasion as very little was happening, but right at the death a pike slipped up.
It also reveals a rig that all predator anglers need to know whether targeting pike, perch or zander on live -baits. This is 'The sunken float paternoster' a rig that has caught me countless big perch, zander and hopefully as this winter progresses, pike!
Another subscribers comment is answered, this time on resistance and whether pike are dropping baits due to this.

Avon Pike Project Part 3 The Percentage Game
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.14 дней назад
Part 3 - The percentage Game once again finds myself on the backwater, simply down to time restraints, yet unlike last weeks session, that saw a number of pike come adrift, this time see's every pick up converted. The video, once again contains some top tips, as well as making you aware that a simple slip on the bank could potentially see you ending up in hospital from an avoidable accident. Pa...
Avon Pike Project - Part 2 Bites on the Backwater!
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.14 дней назад
Part 2 follows myself and angling buddy Darryl as we find the main river in the fields and are forced to head to a backwater. Pick-ups from pike don't take long in coming but our percentage rate of fish in the net to missed or lost fish isn't very good. As I mentioned in the first video, this is a learning curve for me and this new environment means having to beef the kit up whilst finding that...
Grayling Fishing on the river Test - Part 2
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.Месяц назад
This video follows me on a day to the River Test with grayling and chub on my mind, however instead of float fishing corn, today Im going to use bread for a change. Feeding liquidised bread and using corn on the hook is something I have been playing around with recently, the reason being is that corn sinks really quickly as opposed to liquidised bread. This means that not only do you get bites ...
Avon Pike Project Session One

Having fished the Loddon, on the odd occasion, over the past few winters with limited success it was time for a new challenge! The Hampshire Avon was the obvious choice as after a roach session last year, before the floods came, time after time roach and dace were taken on the way in. In fact I played a pike for twenty minutes, never saw it, but in the end it let go off a big dace, which I weig...
Monster Barbel from the Trent
Просмотров 13 тыс.2 месяца назад
The tidal river Trent where dreams can really come true and proof that there is an element of luck when it comes to fishing. A two day visit to the Trent, a first for my brother, couldn't have got off to a better start with Kevin landing the 'sort-after' barbel called Rhianna at a weight of 18lb 8oz. A quick fire double figured carp for myself then saw a drop in action, not just for us, but rep...
Thailand Adventure Part 2

The second part of our epic trip to Jurassic Fishing Resort Thailand. Would it be as good as the first five days? Would Chris catch a fish over 100lb and would I add to the list of species already caught? You will have to watch to find out. This part contains more funny moments, a quick trip around the resort plus as you would expect, lots of action and big fish. www.jurassicfishingthailand.com...
Jurassic Fishing Resort Thailand - Part One
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
Would a trip to Thailand live up to expectations? Well two years ago my mate Chris and I decided to book a fishing holiday and we both had to destinations on our bucket list, Thailand and Canada. We finally decided that Canada and the mighty Sturgeon would have to wait, but with lots of destinations available to the angler, which one would we choose? Heading to The Big One two years ago we appr...
Extreme Bream Fishing on the Waggler
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.4 месяца назад
Here it is the video I promised back in the spring and one many of you were looking forward too, catching specimen bream, at distance, on the float. Venue is the ever reliable Stillwater Back Lake controlled by Farnham Angling Society and at long last I found myself with a few hours to spare on a day with very little wind, rare this year! Casting upwards of forty yards would the tactic work? Hi...

This video has been created for all those anglers that have thought about heading out and targeting catfish. Maybe you have caught one or hooked one whilst targeting other species and always wanted to head back and catch these powerful creatures by design but simply lack the confidence or maybe unsure just what tackle is needed. The video covers areas such as bait, rigs, venue choice and obviou...
My search for a personal best Tench
Просмотров 11 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Four years ago I managed to secure a ticket to a venue that I have wanted to fish all my life. Steeped in history and having had some of the countries best specimen anglers tread its bank it was finally my time. Tench were my target and having managed a few sessions over the past couple of springs I was becoming known as Mr Nine-Pounder! Time really isn't on my side and with the best made plans...
Match VS Specialist Tactics - Part 2
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.9 месяцев назад
In the second part of the video we head to the larger, harder lake and once again are greeted with not what you would call bream weather, however quite a few fish graced our nets this time. Unfortunately Colin decided not to read the script, watch too many videos and get brain washed in how to catch big bream effectively and squeaky clean me became influenced by him! Plenty of fish in this one ...

Match VS Specialist Tactics - Part 1

In this new series, I team up with a match angler and see how each of us tackles a swim next to each other. This isn't a match, it's just a bit of fun as well as showing the rigs each of us use for certain species at certain times of the year. Today's match man is Colin Sheppard and I take him out of his comfort zone, simply by taking him somewhere he's never been to before, Stillwater Back Lak...

Today I head to Harris Lake on the Marsh Farm complex run by Godalming Angling Society, however the feeder rods have been left at home as this morning session is all about fishing a tactic rarely used nowadays, the 'Wag and Mag'. It's mid March, daffodils are out in bloom, surrounding trees and just beginning to bud and theirs still a bitter feel to the wind. Casting out the favoured flat-bed f...

I am new to pike fishing and your videos are brillant i also dont live in wycombe so not far from farnham. if you every need a buddy to fidh with. i would love to join you.
What a great day fishing John. Think I'm almost as excited as you ! My usual haunt is Marsh Farm so may see you on the bank.
Greta video again Duncan. Its been bloody hard work here on the Broads. The water temperature hasn't moved much above 3 degrees for the last couple of weeks and its been stupidly high air pressure. The band of cold weather should move off next week so I will be back out in my boat on my favourite Broad. Fingers crossed, the big girls will start hunting around...! Hopefully you will find a few bigger fish. Cheers...
Cheers for the comment. Good luck to you too.
Great video, looking at Daryl,s set up what sort of tc of rods do both of you use , thanks in advance
Hi Allan, we both use 3lb t/c carp rods. Thanks for the comment.
Good video as usual. Nice explanation of the sunken float paternoster. It’s always a bit of a quandary as to whether to move swims and drop in on a fish or stay put and let the pike come to you.
Hi Neil, today was very similar on the river, but we decided to move around. Result no bites what so ever (good areas all taken) so glad, as I was in a good swim, I stayed put earlier in the week.
Very green looking Pike for this time of year! Lovely conditioned fish👍🏻
Thanks for your comment Rory. Yes that fish was very green, yet they are all very distinctive as the river is running very clear with that nice green tinge.
Well done Duncan, and good explanation of the sunken paternoster. Looking forward to our trip down there.
Can't wait!
How long would you make the trace when perch fishing?
Hi Charles, I keep traces for perch quite short, no more than eight inches. Going to try and head to the canal and do a perch, sunken-paternoster vid in the next few weeks. Thanks for your comment.
"Bad day to be a worm" is now a catchphrase in our home
last time iever attach forceps to my coat . Never gave it a thought . Another cracking video keep them up
Cheers Dave, better to be safe than sorry. Will do my best, if the weather allows, to keep the videos coming!
cracking video gents, got a little private marina i fish in newbury belonging to my grandad has the river & canal entering it, a livebait doesn't last longer than 30 seconds atm with 2lb plus sarges, the beauty of 0 angling pressure other than me and the old man a handful of times per winter, welcome some more livebaiting videos - love it.
Luck man. Will be doing a perch canal vid with lives in the coming weeks hopefully. Thanks for your comment
Another top quality instructional video Duncan. Great today to convert every take to pike on the bank. Learnt so much about watercraft, rigs, matching the hatch and where not to keep your forceps! Now on to those bigger girls 🙂
We will find them, just as long as we can get on the river in the coming weeks?
Another brilliantly instructional video Duncan. It was a pleasure spending time with you on the bank mate in the pursuit of pike. It was wet and wild (we forgive you Carol x) but I learnt so much from you on the day. I really must learn to smile more and look less terrified though when I do eventually catch 😂
Cheers Darryl, as I have always said, its a learning curve for both of us!
Hi Duncan, why dont you use a float for bite indication?
Hi Dan, as mentioned in all the videos, the bites can be really slight and spotting these on the rod tips are hard enough, let alone floats in different positions bobbins around in the flow. I will be using a float on the odd occasion in future visits and will use your comment to explain the reason why I rarely use floats in a later video. Thanks for your comment.
Another quality video Duncan, keep up the good work.
Cheers Richard, will do....
Accidents happen, we don't need to encourage them. I had a pike flip on the mat, tethering my hand to hook, pike and mat.
Painfull, happens to the best of us!
You have some great videos in vlog library, enjoying the pike ones. 🎣 🐊
Glad you like them!
You know what, I've never even considered that wearing my forceps on my jacket was dangerous.....up until now! I'm a clumsy bugger at the best of times so thank you. I must also just say that your videos are spot on. I've been Pike fishing for over 30 years but I always keep a very open mind and firmly believe that all anglers can learn something from other anglers. Thank you and please, keep up the good work! Regards Rob...
Thank you Rob for such a positive comment, it's comments like these that encourage me to get out and create more content!
Good to see another pike video. Very informative with some good advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Some good tips there. Thanks
Thank you
Great video, sad to see the demise of the old salopettes.
Excellent and instructional video as always Duncan. However, leave poor Carol alone please. Be honest, you don't watch her for what she says anyway!
Marvellous!
Another very interesting video. Thanks.
Thanks again!
Does the resistance on the rod tip not cause them to drop the bait
I haven't had any problems with dropped runs
@@duncancharmanangling1136 The propensity of pike to drop baits owing to resistance, is overstated in my experience. When fishing close in I have my rods up like you, and wonder whether heavier barbel quiver tip rods would be suitable?
Great video Duncan. Your earlier tip about using a popup ball + paperclip as an indicator has been working really well for me this season.
The simple things are often the best. Glad they are working for you!
Poco wy te kabłąk otwieracie wieszasz jakieś pręty??? Łowię węgorze i sandacze luzują sprzęgło wolnego biegu i nigdy nie było problemu łowię 30 lat od 25 używam shimano baitrunner 6000 ale i okuma, riobi a ostatnio mivardi 5000 wronx.. .
Please don't start calling barbel by name it's fishing that's nowhere near to the awful carp fishing.
Hi Keith, I hate anglers naming fish, and have never done it myself, but just like the carp fishing world, some barbel anglers feel the need to follow suit.
Nice Vid. have subbed. Is that Manor lake?
Arr looks like Stilwater now ;)
Don't know a Manor Lake apart from the one at Thorpe Park where I caught my PB from and it's not Stillwater although there are a couple of decent pike in them. Local lake but have never made it public as if I did then she wouldn't get any peace. Hope you understand?
@@duncancharmanangling1136 understand. Thought looked like the lake behind match lake.
Enjoyed that thank you Duncan.......question, if allowed would you use maggots over corn/bread? Reason I ask is I fish the Derbyshire Dove for Grayling but am allowed maggot, but will def be giving the bread / corn mixture a go, if rivers ever get back in their banks!
Hi Mark, I prefer corn over maggot and bread as a hook bait last. Reason is that if you get six grayling from a swim you are doing well before they wise up, so by using corn it generally knocks out the small pencil grayling and picks up the better fish, so six biggish grayling is better than three big ones along with three small ones!
Just found your channel. Its great. New sub from me 😊
Thank you, appreciate your support.
always a please to watch your videos. i must get over there. i only live 35mins away
Cheers Brian, enjoy the fishing when you do and appreciate the comment.
Top watch as always 👍🏻🎣🎣🎣
Glad you enjoyed it
Where is part 1 please mate? Looks a nice spot. Just fished the Lower Itchin today. You did better than me! A few salmon parr though were a nice surprise.
Hi Mate, It was published Jan 24 2021. You will need to scroll through my video list on my RUclips page to find it.
Most enjoyable, thanks
@@duncancharmanangling1136 thanks Duncan.
What’s the purpose of the orange plastic tags on the trebles please?
They are called bait flags. When pushing the treble through the tail section, or a dorsal fin, the barbed point often comes out the other side. By pacing a flag over the barbed points it often means that even after catching a pike the bait isn't lost and can be used again. I use them mainly to tell me which are the barbed points when unhooking a pike.
@ thank you.
What ticket do u need for the royalty good vid
The Royalty is a day ticket venue and I think it can be fished by Ringwood as members.
@duncancharmanangling1136 what's the pike fishing like there m8
The feeling "it's not going to work today' ... i recognize very well. It's something not explainable, but you just no. I think it's what you'v experienced trough the years. I realy could tell he is your brother😁 Thnx Duncan.
Cheers Paul, all the time you have a bait in the water you have a chance, but as you say, through experience sometimes you just know that the chance of something happening is so slight its just time to wind the rods in and head home!
How to handle pike vid?
Will start putting some coverage together and create one in the near future...
Whats bait that grasscarp cant neva resist
I want to fish here, but where can I find this stretch? Can you tell me your specific fishing location? As irs a large stretch, thanks mate!
😂😂😂😂
@SootySweepSue ?
Amazing!
Looking forward to bumping into Duncan on the bank at some point. I have a few questions for him. Be prepared
Look forward to meeting you too...
Yeah, the royalty is my old haunt for the past 25 years fishing for Pike.
Its certainly the stretch to be on this year
Exciting fishing. Can’t wait to see the rest of the series.
Cheers Neil, fingers crossed for the odd big fish to turn up....
Excellent as always. Looking forward to seeing the other videos as your campaign develops.
Cheers Richard.
The Royalty is my local river & last year's pike season was a wash out with the amount of rain we had, couldn't get near it, but it's certainly busy this season, with some nice catches coming out.
It's funny because I'm a river angler mainly and always have been. The idea of these famous stretches of river makes me a little cold as I always imagine them heaving with people like a commercial almost . Being able to name all the swims etc. At the same time the royalty is so famous that I would also love to go and see it for myself . Great video
@johnh5660 I've found the Royalty doesn't get that heavily fished, it's managed very well, my local club has 20 tickets for its members & if they are all taken then you buy a day ticket. But the times I've fished it, never had a problem getting a swim.
Thanks for your comment Rich. Only fished The Royalty a couple of times and never for pike but did get smashed to bits fishing for perch in the Compound Pool a few years ago. It rained all day and I still have visions of a twenty plus tail walking out of the pool!
Love your video Duncan keep them coming
Will do Fred, thanks for your comment
If a pike ingests a dead bait with a balsa or polystyrene/foam ball, does it lead to a dead pike? The balsa or polystyrene/foam ball would block its digestive tract? Is that why prolific pike waters are getting rarer and rarer?
The chance of a pike digesting a poly ball or balsa stick is almost impossible as these should always be attached to the wire trace in some way.
Incredible fish and a great video. The 3 rivers rolling baits are great, special the 3rb doing well on Thames!
Glynn certainly knows what he's doing when it comes to making boilies...
Would you fish this same rig for chub if grayling and trout weren't a problem, or would you fish the bait directly on the hook with a longer tail?
Sometimes longer hooklenths works but anglers pressure around you makes it hard to many lines in the water is have learnt it even in bad conditions
Long hook lengths were used on this occasion due to the rubbish coming down river and building up around the lead which can mask the hook bait when using short hook lengths.
A old bloke once told me back in the 60s, worst thing thats happening, barbell getting into the trent, they grub about on the bottom and eat other fishes eggs and will take over, veracious eaters, worst thing ever. And hes been proved right 👍
Maybe he had a point but then again look at the other species the Trent is throwing up now, roach, carp, bream, pike, zander, and all big, so looks like it doesn't have a bad balance at the moment!
@duncancharmanangling1136 I've not seen many stick float roach anglers on the Trent, it's all tip lads, to be fair, every river I go on, I'm outnumbered by tip lads 👍
