I am currently doing this to a similar size rug I got for free. It was rolled up and left outside for a few months and smells bad. .... Not a big deal if I can't clean it.

Qualinet specialist here. I clean carpets daily. You are doing most right bot not all. Leave your product work and brush it in. Wait a bit and rinse it all off. Make sure your water becomes clear.
What you did wrong there as well, start on the back. Very important.

I used laundry soap to clean my natural fiber rug. I did use a good brush and vacuum shop to remove the water. Be careful using the washer pressure because it can damage the rug. Roll the rug to drain the water. Always a good idea to get help from family or friends when you start this rug washing project

Nice video. I wanted to share with you that I have also used a large push broom style squeegee to push out a lot of the water at the end to help the drying process.

Great, except I recommend putting a tarp down first if your back yard/area isn't clean. I also opted for a bristled scrub brush with a handle to really work that soap in.

Quick tip use a large floor squeegee to remove excess water to make it easier for it to air dry

Glad you mention this process is not for natural fiber and valuable rugs. Please apply the same caution with rayon - also known as viscose, artificial silk, Luxelle, Tencel, among others. Even though it is synthetic fiber, rayon rugs do not do well when wet. You can easily ruin the fibers' shape and texture, either shrinking and/or stretching the fibers, especially if attempting to pressure wash, turning a wonderfully soft, silky, luminescent rug into a hot mess. Those misshapen fibers will never return to normal. Best to have rayon rugs professionally cleaned.
Pressure washing is an effective and efficient technique for indoor/outdoor and many nylon/polyester area rugs, though.

I used a scraper to push the water out, and a wet dry vac. Then a carpet shampooer on the extract position. Then I roll it up til it's drained and stand it on end. When most of the water drains out and leaves the top part dry, I re roll it with the face up side facing out and then turn it upside down. The remaining water now at the top drains towards the middle and dries as it comes down the length of the carpet.

There is no such thing as “organic soap” only natural soap. Also grass is an ugly waste of water and pointless

Was hoping you had an easier idea for drying the rug 😭. Guess I’ll just see what I can do with what I have. I washed a very dense 9x11 shag rug on our patio once. Hubby and two sons tried to lift it to put it over a drying rack thingy he made...and after a few choice words and no success...he rolled it up, cut it into small pieces, and told me to order a new one 😂😂😂 I no longer purchase shag rugs. We have two oversized Shepherds. So now I only get very short pile rugs.
Lol, now that's a story. Yes I can imagine a shag rug would be MUCH heavier!

That's a horrible idea..car washes are filthy . I wouldn't put my nice rug on the ground inside of a car wash. Lol .

I power washed the same way but then I took a wet vac and sucked up the excess water to help the rug dry quicker.

We just did this today. One 5x7 textured rug and one 8x10 short shag. It’s helping that it was 105° while we were washing it so hopefully they’ll dry faster! The smaller rug wasn’t to bad to get on a folding table to dry as our fence would’ve been next to impossible to get it up over. The bigger rug was extremely heavy to maneuver onto a larger folding table to dry. As of right now the smaller one is almost dry. The larger one may be sitting outside overnight! It’s supposed to be in the 100’s tomorrow again. I pray it is for the sake of the rug drying! I thought it would’ve been easier to set the rugs on the tables set side by side to wash so they wouldn’t have to be moved to someplace else to dry. I think pressure washing it where you want it to hang or sit to dry is a good idea. We washed it on the drive in front of our house, then had to carry them to the back yard while already on the tables! My guy? … well I’ve already told him we’re not doing this again! Never again! 🤪

Two things to help with getting the most water out:
I got this stiff rubber flooring tile from a hardware/big box store. It like a utility flooring that's like a very open grid and comes in one foot 'tiles' and snaps together. Comes in a pack of 6 or 8 tiles. Light weight and easy to store with little space needed. Put your rug on this when washing. It keeps it off the ground and REALLY makes clearing/draining the soapy water much easier.
Use a squeegee to push the water out of the rug. Almost anything will work. A window squeegee, a foam floor squeegee, a piece of lumber with a slightly rounded edge, the back edge of a floor broom, etc. Again, having the grid flooring underneath helps a lot. If you have one and want it as dry and lighter weight as possible, a wet/dry shop vac will suck out more water. I did a med. pile 8x10 wool rug. That thing is a whale when wet!!!!!
Oh, and laundry soap would be my suggestion. The HE kind as it suds' less. And put a gallon in a watering can with a table spoon of powder laundry soap. Rinses easier. Too much soap sticks in the fibers and is a PITA to get totally rinsed out. You want the water to be soap free when rinsing. Soap that is left behind will cause dirt to stick more.

At this point if we did this again on our own, finding some place for it to dry would be the challenge right now as we don’t have a fence that we can hang it on to fry. Or anything got that matter. When we did this, I don’t think they came as clean as I had hoped. In my mind they still smell very dusty so at this point I will either have them professionally cleaned or just toss them out. And just buy smaller rugs from now on!
@@dianeo2108 I think some scrubbing with a soft-ish bristle brush is a good idea to really get them clean. I've got a set of folding, height adjustable, metal saw horses that work well for draping them on to dry. Just have to shift them every so often to avoid getting a crease if they stay in one spot. Maybe a pre or post soak with some vinegar/water would help with the smell? I've got some jute backed cheap rugs from Ikea and the jute smell just doesn't go away. You can't really smell it unless you put your face right to it, but still annoying. :)

I have a large area Rug 9 x 12 and I'm thinking of cleaning it your way but at a Car wash.. I'll pre soak with dawn & Mr Clean and then off to the Car wash to finish it.. OK?
I have seen people do it that way before. The hardest part is just getting a big heavy wet rug back home to dry.
I used a pool scrub brush to scrub my area rug and them used a rubber squeegee to get water out quicker.
I've had some other people tell me that since posting. Great idea!

I understand your getting right to the point I like that... but.. being that I have a huge rug, from my decent mother bought from Home depot back in the middle 2000's, and they recommended for her to use the 1liter club soda on the rug I have Now... but.. It's Not Enough... so... being you mentioned Palmolive dish detergent, is that clear dish dish detergent or what? Cuz I already have the dry and vac machine... I'm jsut trying to find the best way to get this huge rug cleanest that I can get this rug... You knw??
Dawn dish soap and a pressure washer but only on synthetic rugs.

So my wife used a carpet cleaner and I don’t think it dried out all the way or something cause dude it started to stink. So I’m gonna use my washer and take care of it tomorrow morning. But ours is shag. Think it’ll be alright?
Shag rugs are a little trickier to clean and dry for sure. It sounds like it got a little mildew going on. They are typically steam cleaned and can take a while to dry. If all you have on hand is a pressure washer, you could give it a try, but I can't promise it won't beat it up a bit and cause it to deteriorate some. But if its already stanky then maybe its worth a shot?

Tip: use a shopvac or carpet cleaner machine to suck the dirty water out.
Because my driveway doesn't have a high enough grade, I found that the dirty water just pooled underneath the rug. I flipped it, did the underside, and flipped it again to do the top, and there was still lots of dirty water. Only after I used my rug machine did I finally get all the dirt out. Bonus, it made the rug lighter to pick up and hang.
I've used the Bissell carpet cleaner only on this particular rug before, and I gotta say that the pressure washer + Bissell method is by far better.

did you use your solution poured into the dispenser along with the water connected or just straight solution. i have used the solution dispenser before but it was concentrate that mixed with the water and diluted itself
I put 3 oz of dawn into a gallon of water, and then poured the mix into the tanks. (I could have used way less dawn.) I think you'd be ok with 1 oz of Dawn in a gallon of water.

That's a good question. I've only ever done my own rugs, but I'd say the hardest part is carrying the wet rug where it needs to go to dry. If this part will be difficult to get to, then I would charge more. At least a few hundred.

I left it out there for about half a day or so in direct sunlight, and no, there were no indents.

@@fixitFlip no. We left it out hanging over our deck banister for 2 days in southern California heat. If was completely dry, but stunk. Not sure what happened.
@@kjwilliams1031 Hmmm. I've never heard of that happening before. I wonder if the dew soaked back in during the night and next morning. I only kept mine out there for a few hours on a hot, sunny day and it did the trick. I did take the blower to it for a few minutes like I showed in the video. Sorry that happened to you.

I would say I left it hanging there for a solid 6 or 7 hours in the direct sun on a warm day! Plus hitting it with the blower a little bit at first.

What if you don’t have a pressure washer or carpet shampooer

You can buy a piece to put on the end of your house that puts out the water with more pressure. I used it and it worked well.

Why not use carpet cleaner and not dawn dish soap
I would stick with a mild dish soap. Some carpet shampoos could damage a rug.
