When the evap.sensor is out,you can manually defrost it,by connecting line to the defrost line,and you can disconnect the compressor line,on the controller.you need to change FC from oy to on,so the fans turn off on defrost.d1 is room temp,d2 is evap temp,if it is no good it will not defrost.hope that helps.the controller they install was set for a cooler.
