Great job Eddie, you were blessed to have that spare in the garage. Enjoy some coolness now !! Take care, Brett
Nice video, I had to watch it twice.
Great video Eddie got our unit going good just had some lose wires got them all tight.
I really like your videos - One safety recommendation is to remove any rings and watches when working with electrical devices
Hey Eddie, got to love the ECM tester...have slightly different but it's great to have...great job as always..
Hey Ed !!!
Glad your back up and Runnin !!!
To Hot for that Crap !!! LOL ...
Great Demonstration !!!
Thanks Eddie !!
Wow lifeboat in the garage saves the day! Cool Vid's Eddie!!! :)
Nice video Eddie!
Those capacitors in that module can hold a charge for up to 5 min. once they are unpluged.
I would love to see a more in depth video on troubleshooting ecm's
I can't respond to specific questions right now due to a glitch in youtube..
@bucs80SC You are correct and that somehow got cut out during edit. I will make note in the video Thanks
ECM motors are DC voltage motors so you will not be able to wire 110 AC to it.
Regular motors uses AC current so they can not be used as a ECM motor.
Hey Eddie, Let's say u had to buy a new ecm blower and due to being so expensive, can u install just a regular blower with It's own external capacitor? Reason I ask is because my he ecm x13 blower went dead after 4 years, if it wasn't for a good friend that found me the same back cover which is where the capacitor is built in, I would hace had to pay an arm n leg for new ecm blower. Can I switch mine out for a regular blower and external capacitor?
Hi Eddie awasome vid !!
Where did I find that ECM troubleshooter it looks very handy ???
Thanks Eddie,
Another great tool that I wish I had, good thing you had a spare ecm...are these ecm's dieing from electrical spikes? and why in the hell are they so expensive to replace?
Yes, thanks for responding. My dilemma was:, the blower wasnt coming on, the 3 amp fuse on the board (Thermal Zone (Rheem/Rudd) kept popping. How can I test the motor? So what I have discovered for this particular system of air handler motor: Yes the X-13 - a particular typr of ECM can be tested with direct hook up, as long as the lo voltage side is getting lo voltage, preferably from the board. A tester is nice to have but not absolutely necessary.
Hello sir. Thank you for sharing your skills. I was always told that the module needs to be programmed to the specific furnace/HVAC system I use American standard equipment for most of my installs And they always need the serial number anytime I replaced the module they say it needs to be programmed for that unit. Just asking maybe you can give me some information on this. Once again thank you. Jerry.
Thanks for your videos - I have a carrier unit with an X13 ECM 1/5 hp 230v GE motor - and what it keeps on doing is with the fan switch in the on position, it will run for about three seconds and then shut down - run for three more seconds and then shutdown again - with the blower door removed it will run much longer before it shuts down again. I don't have an ecm tester - is there anyway to tell if it's the fan control board or the ecm module?
This one was bought at Carrier
you know i have ran into alot of those ECM motors going bad ........i dont know if carrier just had a bad run of em or if they are really as bad as they seem to be ................but over all though i do like carrier equipment
HI Eddie, I having an issue with the IFM on a 5 ton package unit where the motor is not spinning fast enough! causing the unit to ice up. low rpm. I wonder if the module could be damage it self. And where can i get a tester like you have there.
LOL i have the same flash light!
I have heard Carrier parts are expensive compared to other furnaces? True or False?
Can a ECM motor be checked by running power directly to the power-in leads on the motor, to see if it will kick on....just like a traditional motor?
Also can someone answer the question below, can a regular motor be wired into replacement of the ecm set up and work.
