way too true that happened to one of my moms horses he was "destructive" according to retama trainers and they gave him to my mother who went on to win several quarter races with him and when asked how she made him better I told them yall treated him terribly and my mom loves him theres nothing he wouldn't do for her and he's 30 years old now living his life as a grand front yard ornament who loves skritches and my mom to this day

What I love about this horse and this race, is that 99% of the people did not pick this 80 to 1 long shot, most people did not win money on Rich Strike, yet we all still love the fact that Rich Strike won this race, and it was the greatest race we ever saw. On top of that, once we learn all the facts of this truly epic story, it does not matter how invested we were initially. We fall in love with the horse, his owner, the jockey, the whole team, and the story of literally over coming ALL the odds stacked against them. The owner had a tragic barn fire 2 yrs ago, Rich Strike was purchased for $30,000, originally Rich Strike was not even supposed to be in the race, he was a last-minute fill-in for a scratched horse. Rich Strike was a 80 to 1 long shot, which made this one of the biggest upsets in Derby history. In the first few seconds of the race Rich Strike was last, at one point in the race it did not look like Rich Strike was going to be able to make it through the huge pack ahead of him. Against all odds, literally all odds, this horse ran down the entire field and won the Kentucky Derby. That will give a lot of people hope for themselves and others, and for what we are going through in life. So even though millions of people did not win a dime on Rich Strike, we still love the fact that Rich Strike and the entire team won. This literally was the greatest horse race ever. God what you did for Rich Strike and his whole team, please do for America.

He has connections most did not know. His trainer lived thru the most horrific circumstance any trainer could live thru... a lightening strike burning one of his barns to the ground killing 23 of his horses, two of the trainer's assistant trainers dying of cancer in the last year, the trainer himself critically ill in the hospital with Covid a year & a half ago. Give it up for his jockey (who had never been in the derby) for having the patience to wait for an opening instead of speeding up and having to check or apply the breaks....give it up for him being brave enough to go through that gap and make a way for Rich Strike's surge.

Disagree w the owner. Rich Strike was incredible. But without that jockey guiding him through that big mess....no way. Congratulations to jockey Leon and horse Rich Strike! An incredible team !!!

This popped up just after I watch the Epsom Derby. This was great to watch - can't imagine what it would have been like for them all. It will live long in their memory.
