    You did all the mods that actually make a difference on a corolla. You're wise with modding cars. The corolla is light and is good at taking curves, so these mods really improve this car's strengthes. I have a 2001 8th gen corolla and an 11th gen 2014 corolla. Due to its lightweight chassis, reliability, and throttle cable I want to start focusing on my old 2001 corolla again. You are an inspiration to the small Corolla community.

      I had a 2000 for 8 years! Had to finally scrap it due to the underside being completely rusted out. It still ran and drove perfect though! Funny enough my sister bought a 2014 Corolla because of how reliable mine was! 😆😄

    • @corollayanki
      @corollayanki Год назад +1

      @@evan937 I bought a 2014 corolla too. I was leaning towards a Civic Si, but my 2001 corolla was so reliable I decided to stick with Toyota and I'm so glad I did. Now my wife drives the 2014 and I drive the 2001. I have a 2006 Civic and it was holding up until the engine block cracked. I don't have to deal with rust in Texas, but I know what you mean. I had a car that was rusting away underneath and I also had to get rid of it. It sucks. I have some stuff planned out for the 2001 and 2014 corollas. I'm busy with moving and looking to change jobs, but when I get settled in I want to make some videos and a blog.

    Nice build man. I'm more of a domestic enthusiast but I can definitely appreciate someone who wrenches on their own car and puts in the blood sweat and tears!
    Your Corolla kinda reminds me of my first car way back when, it was a Ford Focus wagon, was bland and boring but towards the end it was so modified I remember getting thumbs up from people. We all start somewhere, if it wasn't for the wrenching I did on that car I wouldn't have my mustang today. Keep up the good work man. Respect

      Check out a pick n pull to see if they have corollas for your generation that you can pick the parts you need. Just need to bring a bag of tools. You can search their dB online and they should have locations across the US. You can get oem parts for cheap picking it yourself at pic n pull. This is where I get alot of replacement parts. Then rock auto and ebay if I want new or performance parts. I would never replace an old Corolla. Getting a newer second car and having the corolla as your backup and project car is the better option. These cars are too reliable and simple to replace! You will get your money's worth when you need a backup car. And I have needed my old 2001 corolla for backup duty several times. What about the 10th (2009 - 2013) or 11th (2014 - 2018) gen corolla? You might be able to find one with manual. I have a 2014 one with a six speed. Way heavier than the older corollas, but really comfortable and a good aftermarket. I also love the new corolla hatchbacks, but it might be hard to find a manual one. If you do, then take it asap!

    This really shows the the time that goes into making a clean build on an older car. Anyone (with money) can buy a beautiful new car, but it takes dedication & love to keep an older car looking this good!
    In your opinion, what is the one biggest mod to reduce front wheel hop/slip under power in sharp turns?
    -front strut bar
    -rear sway bar
    -front or rear shocks
    -something else?

    • @WillChang
      @WillChang  2 года назад +1

      Couldn't agree more!
      For reducing wheel hop, anything that can tighten the chassis up will be beneficial, such as strut bars, chassis bracing, and sway bars. Bushings often are overlooked but can reduce wheel hop greatly such as control arm bushings and motor mount bushings. If you want to get rid of wheel hop in one shot though, then that calls for an LSD, although very expensive!

    Thanks for going places and taking steps! My mods are clean the car, vaccume. Replace missing Christmas tree pins.
    Replace rusted exhaust to muffler.
    Upgrade wheel width to 195
    Pioneer Bluetooth
    Cut the rear speaker cone for defined bass
    Replace airbox and passenger ac filters.
    Oil change at 4k
    Power wash the engine bay.
    Upgrade battery.
    Replace siezed caliper front right.
    Infinite contact / beam wiper blades.
    New sparkplugs
    New trunk and hood latches. Jfc.
    New old school bulbs, the yellow temp bites distance better.
    It needs stability. So I like the idea of the engine and trunk rigid support.
    I'm terrified of replacing the struts and suspension.
    Coil pack get old?
    Do you have the shop manual? I'm an 05 ce.
    All else is still stock. I love money shifting to 2 at a light, turn off overdrive, floor to third, and plane out into fourth w od on.
    Nothing felt better than cleaning the car spotless and reducing the clatter and shakes.
    What can I do to the car that's under ten dollars? Under 20? Or 50?
    Lots of your jobs are expensive. Like the bars and springs.
    I might sub you bc it's relevant.

    • @kevinholman6369

      Honestly struts are super easy can do my whole car (09 CE) in less then 2 hours with some painful bolts fairly simple and genuinely fun with some good friends

    • @alexfinman3958
      @alexfinman3958 Год назад

      @@kevinholman6369 thx for the reply. To restate my 05 ce, With wider tires( 195 instead of 185 )in Can get. That in a shop. I gain so much. Because there is more rubber, I have greater stability with the wider footprint. More grip on wet roads, less tilt on turns. The cost is similar to what you already pay for a new set of two front tires. I would also argue I would. Get. More speed somehow,but I can’t prove that.
      With struts, why replace them if they’re not broken? Isn’t there the bounce test, push on the car down and see it bounce only once, if more the struts are bad?
      What kind of struts you do. Did you need to add any bolt on mods for it? What did you gain or lose?
      Best.

      10 months later:
      i cleaned, painted waxed and polished the hood/rock chips. vaccumed , found a free spot. replaced the pins in the trunk, and rock gaurd all round etc.
      got a new exhaust pipe at autozone and the mechanic put it in. 120$ plus labor. ez
      love the width. im actually slower on the uptake, but better ride quality.
      the bluetooth radio is the pioneer deh6500bt rocks the 6way audio.
      didnt cut the rear speakers omg. just vaccumed the pebbles out of them and they sound fine.
      filters are fine. so is the oil
      wash the engine bay, cover the alternator w/ plastic bag. found the steering pump leaks. and scrubbed the bay with my hands!
      bigger battery starts and covers my new mods.
      replaced the caliper. costs a bit. but if feel safe
      oem wipers on point. plus the toyota decal.
      new plugs, and wires tested the alt, boots coilover packs, and cleaned the fuel rail to the injector.
      i replaced the trunk latch and married the lock.
      new bulbs rock. also got fog kit.
      rewatching this. i am inspired to wrap the car!
      put in sway bars, coilovers, upgrade the rear brakes, ...

      Interesting that it still runs well! Keep in mind though that ethanol is corrosive and can damage your fuel lines, which is why people who do flex fuel conversions replace their fuel pumps, lines, injectors, etc. Best of luck!

    Hey Will, Corolla owner here. How do you feel about the Corolla CE? I have one with a 1ZZ FE and I hear mixed opinions on them. Especially about the 2ZZ. I feel like crap for having it but what are some basic and cool mods do you suggest?

    • @WillChang
      @WillChang  2 года назад +3

      I don’t mind CEs at all, you shouldn’t feel negative for owning one! Mine here is an LE with is essentially a CE with more options so this one also has the 1zzfe. Audio mods like head unit, speakers, amplifier, maybe subwoofer if you’re into that would make the daily commute more fun to listen to! On the other hand, new wheels and lowered suspension (lowering springs, coilovers) would be great for improving looks and handling

    • @WillChang
      @WillChang  Год назад +1

      That's me replacing the fuel rail along with reinstalling cleaned fuel injectors. And for engine longevity, the best thing to do is regular oil/filter changes every 5k miles although it certainly wouldn't hurt changing it more often. Overall, your engine will last the longest by following Toyota's maintenance schedule which you can find here: www.toyota.com/owners/resources/warranty-owners-manuals.corolla.2007
