Thank You for providing Aussie pricing and products. Really thinking of making the jump to this from the legendary AOC, which I picked up due to your main channel recommendation. You lads are doing amazing work, keep it up! P.S The video and production quality is magnifique!
Got this monitor from Costco. It's great out of the box but my problem with it is you cannot make a whole lot of manual calibrations to the monitors color, not even the gamma settings. They have basic RGB options in the control panel and that's about it. I prefer a more saturated look when gaming and I use monitors for both console and PC but you can only get the most out of this monitors wide color gamut via software calibration on PC which is a shame. EDIT: there are two variants of this monitor. The QD (quantum dot) and the non QD model. The Costco version is the non QD variant. Outside of color performance from not being quantum dot, I don't know jf the performance or overall quality is worse.
I saw the non QD at Costco but it’s at 220 bucks and pretty much has everything like this model as well which is a crazy steal price in my opinion! I’ll probably pick it up the fact that it looks like a good monitor and for being under $300 is more insane
I would also appreciate if you updated a few dollar/euro prices when comparing monitors every video, it would greatly help about what to buy. Its hard to judge when pricing differs per region. Some monitors in Europe have risen up to 200€ since September '22, mostly since halfway of december. I dont know why that is.

Over the Black Friday period I picked up it's bigger older brother, MSI OPTIX MAG321QR, for £360. Loving the screen realestate and the crisp image. Would like to see a comaprison of MSI older and newer monitors, along with all the other brands. I think this would be really useful for people to judge if the newest is the best option for them, just as CPU and GPU tech is reviewed.
MAG274QRF-QD already had the budget version - Optix G273QPF. The same panel, the same response times, good contrast and lack of unnecessary features like HDR and super-wide gamut. This new G274QPF-QD seems to be focused on a bit different aspects and isn't its true succesor despite the similar name.
There is actually more of them, G273QF and G273QFW. I have G273QFW and i think it might even have better overdrive than this new model because i don't notice inverse ghosting in games at lower refresh rates.
Thanks for the review Tim - manufacturers really should start including a "one-for-all" OD setting along with manual. Example, - my samsung C32HG70 just has one which is auto controls based on refresh. I really don't need to be pressing buttons for every other games. Jeremy Clarkson said it best about BMW, in their M5 review - "BMW are the experts, it should already come setup from the factory!"
Thanks Tim, I bought this monitor and couldn't be happier! My Odyssey G7 32in backlight failed, and I replaced it with this. So far I'm not missing the higher refresh rate and deeper blacks as I had the screen door effect in dark areas anyways.
The best feature of this monitor for me is Type-C port, absolute godsent for a laptop user, seemless experience without the need for an expensive cable. The worst part of it for me was the minimum brightness, for minimum level it's way too bright, but you get used to it, might not be a big deal for many people. Experience out of the box is excellent, the colors are pleasant, you don't need to change much in the setting at all. The responsiveness in competetive titles (CS, OW) subjectively is pretty good, the size of the monitor, the new resolution and clarity, that I have, improve my gameplay much more than the refresh rate. But in reaction test I see a big deviation, so if you can, definitely go for something with better response time tests, if you're more serious about competetive games. But if it's a good deal, don't think too much about, for me that was an amazing upgrade.
Is the response time that noticeable? I want a monitor with a good balance, and I do use a laptop, so its quite tricky to find monitors with USB C compatible for display port (Dont want to buy an adapter) Should I get this one?
@jasonz.h31 In real use it's not noticable, my experience in OW, for example, was so goddamn smooth and clean, and in CS I'm being called cheater noticably more after swapping to 27" panel, the size is the king for me, not the refresh rate. Realistically, this model is everything the most people need, and it's indeed a very well-rounded model. The stand has all the functions you need, the colors are everything you expect from a good IPS, watching the movies on it was amazing for me, I watched "Dune: Part Two" in 4k (to fully utilize 2k), I felt like I went to a movie theater, lower res content looks good on it too. Cyberpunk looks amazing on it, for non-competetive games it's perfect too, can't complain. I bought it used (practically like new) for a local equivalent of $210 and 8 months of warranty left in a local shop, very happy with it. If only the minimal brightness was a lower, it would've been the perfect model for me, legit might sell it because of that after I'm done binging games, but I'm always on the lowest brightness level with everything, and many people use 60-80%. If you go with it, I recommend sticking to native 165hz, fast preset, sRGB mode. Also initially the video playback was choppy for me, both on youtube and in VLC, turning off hardware acceleration in the browser and in VLC solved it. As a laptop user, after doing so much research, setting up this monitor felt like a dream. One USB-C cable, and it worked and looked perfectly instantly, just the way it should, and I think that experience alone means everything.
My brother and I had our PCs set up next to one another for the release of Diablo 4, and with identical graphics settings, we both agreed that the MSI G274 looked better than the Asus ROG PG279Q. I don't know a lot about display technology, but I thought the PG279 had superior specs which leaves me a bit confused. Is this a case of untrained eyes or is there a quality that the G274 has that the PG279 doesn't? Maybe explained by simply newer display technology? Can anyone help explain this? (additional detail, I had HDR enabled via Windows 11 for the MSI G274, whereas the ROG PG279Q does not have any HDR compatibility)
After owning this monitor for a year, it's been pretty good but just had an issue come up with my monitor flickering every couple of seconds. It looks like scan lines across the whole display and it's very distracting. Sent MSI an email about my warranty and what to do.
I recently bought the KTC H27T22 for 250€ in Germany which also seems to have a good MSI 1440p 165Hz Panel, I think that one would also be a really interesting budget option
Tim any plans to review the MAG 274QRF QD E2? This new monitor has a faster panel and KVM. But i haven't seen any comprehensive reviews of it. Closest is this one by you, but, i doubt we can take it for granted it would apply for the other model.
@@krazed0451 I got it from Mwave Australia . Not sure which version I got but I did notice a bit of text clarity issue , but that was fixed via the upscaling setting in the monitor. It made everything sharp and clear just like my 4k 60hz monitor.
@@krazed0451 I bought the Rev2 a couple weeks ago, and it's a bit of a letdown. Motion clarity is nowhere near what the reviews of the Rev1 had shown. I wouldn't call it a blurry mess like on some cheap VAs I tested, but it definitely dampens the experience of playing at 170Hz quite drastically, and the BFI helps only marginally, resulting in less blur but more pronounced ghosting.
Any possibility you might check for DDC/CI support on monitors you review? Perhaps include support as a review checklist item? Even basic support that actually works would be useful information to have 🙂👍
Love all the videos but just a question, I'm between MSI G274QPF-QD and LG 27GP850-B not just for gaming but also for working (programming) watching movies/videos and etc, witch one is better? I also stay on darker room like only have on floor rgb strips and behind pc desk, I love the LG but I also kinda like the MSI. Love your reviews

@@Znqii. I don't think I will get the 27gp850-b cuz of the contrast so waiting a bit more until I find a good one, btw after u returned the LG what monitor did u get?
I have NO IDEA why other brands don't include correctly clamped color modes in their monitors. In my opinion a wide gamut monitor without proper sRGB clamp is useless
Msi G274QPF. Not the QD variant. Nothing you tried? Released 2023/06. Got it for $100 off the regular price of $486 In Sweden. Seems to be an ok screen. Maybe a little expensive. However, not a single test out on it. Very strange..
12:42 That minimum brightness is a complete deal-breaker for me. My eyes can't take anything higher than 30 cd/m². Why do monitors have to have such high minimum brightness?
In my country the MSI G274QPF is available instead of MSI G274QPF-QD. How much the difference should I expect? What would be the color re-production variances? Should I buy it?
I have g274qpf, and honesty, I am really disappointed. Srgb mode is an unusable, bcs it has awful green tint. Other "gaming" modes are shit as well. I hoped I could at least tune and tweak the colors via PSD, but its pretty much impossible since, you cant change gamma, and trying to manually tweak RGB color temps doesn't help at all, monitor just tints image if you slightly change any of the color temps. I tried using user mode with standard RGB on values 50 50 50, and it makes white and gray colors appear with yellowish tint, which I can not get rid of. Honestly I'm ready to give up, because I can't make this not at all budget model, be at least somewhat balanced regarding color reproduction. If anyone has this model, and now how to solve this problem, pls help, I would appreciate a lot.
I went into the monitor's service menu (the one that display the technical specs on the OSD), mine uses panel M270DAN08.2, which is apparently the same AUO panel as the MAG version.
I can't comprehend the absence of a review for the Dell G2724D 1440p on your channel. You previously asserted that the MSI G274QPF-QD is the premier monitor for 2023 priced at $300, without considering the possibility that the new Dell model might also be a contender for that distinction.
FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING FLICKERING ON BROWSER, JUST TURN OFF "HARDWARE ACCELERATION" MY BUILD IS AMD SO MAYBE OTHERS MAY HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. FURTHERMORE A GREAT MONITOR AND SUPER VIBRANT. MINE SET IN COLORS > USER - TRY CUSTOMIZING> R-44, G-49, B-45, AND IF YOU HAVE AMD TURN DOWN THE BRIGHTNESS BY -10. AND NOW YOU ARE GOOD TO GO.
May I ask how you feel about the contrast? I am ok with contrast 1000:1. But this one a bit lower than that and Tim or other review showed, I have some concern even I don't play game in dark room. So you are playing games with it not in dark room, right? What is your room environment or lighting? As sometimes my room lightning environment will become a bit dark depends on the sunlight, the the room light is mixing yellow and white light.
Is G3223D or G274QPF-QD better? Which is less ghosting? Which is better HDR? Don't get hung up on the 32" - 27" difference, I'm waiting for your suggestions
So if i understood correctly, we should use Srgb for pretty much everything: gaming, browsing, youtube, etc right ? I have the monitor, its nice but the contrast is definitely total garbage. In Srgb mode, unfortunately we cant edit the contrast.
Hey! Quick question here, the prices between this and the MAG are $50USD apart, which would you suggest for content creation / gaming? Been struggling with this decision for days!
Ended up going with the MAG, but have had PC issues since, hopefully resolving next week so I haven't had any real experiences with the screen against my old ones. Sorry!
I’m using a NZXT 27Q and it’s been great, especially since I got it for $260 with stand when they ran one of their recent sales. Cam control is something I never though I’d care about but now I absolutely love it.
I wonder whether they addressed the truly horrible grey and color uniformity of the QRF-QD. I've had four of these here and just like Amazon reviews reflect, terrible dirty screen effect and heavy blue and yellow discolorations everywhere on top of dark blueish left and right edges are simply unacceptable flaws shared by not just my four units, but a lot of other people's too.
Hey man awesome video ! thanks so much if should compare : MSI G274QPF-QD VS BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710Q What would you choose and why , what is the advantage?
Thanks for this review. It seems this monitor hasn't gotten much attention on Amazon since the price was around US $330, currently it's on sale for $270 so I'll be picking one up. I'm moving on from a budget AOC 1080p VA panel.
@@immortalplays4834 It's an old 24", 1080p monitor, max refresh rate is low, just 75hz. Honestly I'm not sure about the ghosting because I don't normally play competitive games. I'm more a single player adventure kinda guy. This will be the first time I've ever experienced using an IPS panel.
Yeah with prices in Poland for the MSI at $460, this is a no-go, meanwhile the M27Q-P is non-existent as if it was no longer produced and is replaced by M27Q Rev 2.0, (same thing with BGR being changed to RGB), that M27Q is $335, so over 100 dollars of difference, and the 27GP850 is $380, I still don't know what's better, 27GP850 or M27Q Rev2.0, considering that backlight bleed lottery
I`m looking for the best non-OLED UWQHD gaming monitor. Furthermore I need suggestions whether I should buy the UWQHD or the Neo G7. Thanks for advice in advance!
Hey guys, can you do a comparison with the new one MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2? one thing i notice with the new one, is the refresh rate technology is Adaptive Sync, while the old one is freesync premium. so Im not sure if theres any performance difference.
What do you recommend for PS5 120hz gaming? I cant decide, I am on a 48" OLED and I would like to downsize to a smaller screen so I can sit at a desk or closer to the screen for competitive play.
Hello! Thank you very much for your review! I found it through recommendations among the comments in a Reddit post. I live in Russia, in the Far East, I apologize in advance if I wrote something wrong. On New Year's Day, discounts began at a local store, and I decided to choose two identical monitors for certain tasks with certain characteristics. I thought that the monitors would hang above each other on the NB-H180 bracket, and would be connected to the gaming video card via the Display Port. The lower (main monitor) will display daily tasks: games, surfing, photo and video editing (non-professional) and watching videos, sometimes working in a 3D editor. And the lower (additional) one will display the remote desktop of the virtual machine, a preview window of the photo/video editing result, as well as Skype / Discord etc. And sometimes I will connect other computers and laptops to these monitors for testing (via HDMI). I want both monitors 27" QHD (2560p1440) on an IPS matrix with a frequency of more than 144 Hz, preferably with G-Sync support. Why two are the same? The second should not be cool - so the perfectionist in me will be satisfied. Moreover, in the future, if If I don’t like something, I can change the configuration by placing the monitors in a row, or give one of the two to my girlfriend. Now I use an Acer Nitro VG252QPbmiipx and a simple cheap 23.8" FHD 75Hz monitor. They are in a row now, and because of the difference in diagonal and frequency, my eyes get tired. I would get another Acer, but they are not on sale. So I don’t want to take similar ones. In my city there are models suitable for my tasks: AOC Q27G2S/EU price ~280 USD ; MSI G274QPF (non QD) price ~300 USD ; Philips Evnia 27M1N5500ZA/00 price ~350 USD. Besides them, there are also monitors from Asus, Gigabyte, Xiaomi, LG and CoolerMaster, but almost everyone criticizes them. Frequent marriage or matrix is worse than those chosen. I've been sitting and biting my nails for a week now (from the stress of torment of choice). Could you please advise which monitor should I get? Happy New Year!
I understand that you may not respond, but I still appreciate this review. Like and subscribe. If suddenly someone can help or recommend some articles/forums (in case I missed something) I will be glad!
6:56 wait, what am I missing here. The original video you guys did on the hardware unboxed channel on the MAG version of this monitor reports a 3.93 g2g performance, not the 6.20 you show here. (orig video: ruclips.net/video/i3X3yFh0-gE/видео.html at the 6:06 minute mark in that video) Which is the accurate measurement??
@@Nooboy1000 Looking at comparisons, it seemed like the msi model out did in most of the performance stuff I was looking into. Tho id say, if you can get the LG cheaper, itd do you well all the same
At the 17:20 point you talk about a "27p380b" monitor, could you type that out for me? I cannot find it by searching on that letter/number combination. Sorry, I've got old turbine damaged ears.
Hey man, I got a question. I'm currently looking for a 1440p monitor, coming from a 144hz 1080p VA monitor, with a contrast ratio of (says the amazon description at least) 3000:1. Even after a lot of research I wasn't able to find many fine monitors in my budget ($300-$400). The best picks I could find were the MSI G274QPF-QD and the Gigabyte M27Q. At all the MSI one seemed a bit more of an allrounder to me. The only problems I have with it, is the contrast ratio and the IPS glow. Monitors Unboxed states that the MSI monitor has a contrast ratio of about 930:1 wich is about a third of my current one. I personally watch a lot of RUclips, a bit of movies and series and play games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Subnautica and Call of Duty (in general mostly singleplayer titles). Do you think the difference is so noticeable (in terms of contrast, blacks, immersion and IPS glow) that I should look for a VA monitor instead?
@@AppySaid Hey dude, I bought the MSI one and since I don't know much about color spaces and stuff I cant' really say anything except that the blacks didn't disappoint me neither is the backlight bleed very relevant. I got a bit of bleed in the bottom wich is noticeable in total dark scenes or mostly dark scenes. One problem tho was that I had to adjust the colors in my amd driver, because if I didn't the colors were way to warm and yellowish. With the colors and color temperature adjusted I am really happy with this thing.
@@mrpanther44 Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that you like it. I actually found a deal on a refurbished one last night, so I bought it. I hope that I get a good experience as well. First time ever on 1440p and 27 inch. I can finally enjoy the full potential of my build.
@@mrpanther44 So, the monitor unfortunately got damaged while it was being shipped. I had to look for something else and bought the msi optix mag274qrf-qd. Had to pay more. I am enjoying it so far tho. Had some problems with the weird saturation, but after updating the firmware and going for a preset that I like, I'm enjoying it so far. It did come with one dead pixel around the middle bottom part of the screen. I can live with it. I can only see it when the screen turns black. The only reason why I would not return it is because I've already waited so long to upgrade to 1440p, so my patience was running low. Especially after losing the other monitor during shipment. But man playing on a 27' 1440p monitor is a huge difference from all the years on a 24' 1080p monitor.
It sounds like you are speaking a different language. Went to the end. I think I need to learn this language because the information you convey is important to decision making.
Would you consider this a a slight upgrade over the Rog Strix XG27WQ (UK) which is a 1440p 165hz VA panel. I remember the monitor was quite expensive when i bought it but this MSI one seems very cheap for what you get
I mean activating HDR is worth it, even if it's only HDR400 . A jump from 430 nits to just under 480 in peak brightness and a jump in contrast from 930:1 to around 1300:1 in contrast is also worth it (averaging out both worst and best case)
My thoughts exactly. I honestly prefer cranking up my monitors brightness as high as I possibly can so I find this advantageous. Even 350 nits brightness is just too low for me anymore.
That's interesting and I guess if you need the extra brightness from "HDR" mode then sure maybe it works for you. When it comes to actual proper HDR none of these monitors can achieve it without at least some basic local dimming functions. Too many monitors and TVs claim to have HDR to upsell to people but most of the time it's not proper HDR and is not a good way to experience it. When you see real HDR that's when you go, "Oh so that's how it's supposed to look?!" I got fooled before when I got a cheap 4K "HDR" TV for my PS4 Pro back in 2018. I wasn't watching Hardware Unboxed back then nor did I know any of the specifications needed for good HDR. I don't have an HDR monitor yet but some early Monitor Unboxed videos really showed the difference between a fake HDR edge lit monitor, entry level HDR with 96 dimming zones (Sony Inzone M9), and good HDR on a 1000+ zone monitor (Samsung G7 I think). Then when you see the ultimate HDR of OLED's per pixel dimming you'll see how many levels of HDR there really are.
They ought to just label the fastest setting the "marketing setting." I won't buy anything without a single overdrive experience, because I don't want to go into my monitors settings all the time, so thanks again for calling that out.
I am new to this. May I know when should we switch OD or monitor refresh rate? Turn on OD is more for FPS game? How about single player game? Thank you🙏🙏
Hey, I have a MSI Optix MAG301RF on sale for around 300$ in my country, could you make a review on it? There doesn't appear to be any reviews of your calibre on youtube and dont really feel like reading a whole lot.
This or the MG273QPF-QD or LG 27GN880-B? I am torn between these three and I heard LG has better panels when it comes to inverse ghosting, but I'm trying to aim for 165 hz.
Este a simple vista se ve mejor aunque el lg está mejor calibración, este tendrá mejores contraste y colores un poco más saturado , para una persona normal se verá mucho mejor que el lg pero en realidad el lg se ve mejor.
Really want to get a new monitor as I'm playing on my steam deck more and wanted to know how this monitor compares to the gigabyte m27q as both are similarly priced ATM and can't find the X or pro anywhere. Pleases and thanks

As well as the monitor I went with, the MSI MAG274QRF non Quantum Dot (MSI MAG274QRF-QD) still Rapid IPS 165Hz and decent wide gamut color range
There is actually more of them, G273QF and G273QFW. I have G273QFW and i think it might even have better overdrive than this new model because i don't notice inverse ghosting in games at lower refresh rates.
That's quantum dot though? Only -QD is quantum dot.
but how is wide color gamut useless? i think in getting the optix mag 274qrf-qd
Can't wait for Tim's LG OLED 1440p review.
Plans to review the "E2" MAG 274QRF QD?
Thanks Tim, I bought this monitor and couldn't be happier! My Odyssey G7 32in backlight failed, and I replaced it with this. So far I'm not missing the higher refresh rate and deeper blacks as I had the screen door effect in dark areas anyways.
Is this pc good for games like elden ring and fps games ?
Also how high is the monitor including the stand ? I can’t seem to find that info
Think it would be good for microsoft flight simulator on xbox
I'm confused now.. which one is better, the MSI G274QPF-QD or the MSI MAG274QRX, or some other msi 27 inch 2k monitor?????
After owning this monitor for a year, it's been pretty good but just had an issue come up with my monitor flickering every couple of seconds. It looks like scan lines across the whole display and it's very distracting. Sent MSI an email about my warranty and what to do.

On which monitor do you have M270DAN08.2 panel ? MSI QPF-QD?
Got rhe msi g274qpf e2 from costco (yes, it is the e2) and it looks pretty good
I can't comprehend the absence of a review for the Dell G2724D 1440p on your channel. You previously asserted that the MSI G274QPF-QD is the premier monitor for 2023 priced at $300, without considering the possibility that the new Dell model might also be a contender for that distinction.

In my city there are models suitable for my tasks:
AOC Q27G2S/EU price ~280 USD ;
MSI G274QPF (non QD) price ~300 USD ;
Philips Evnia 27M1N5500ZA/00 price ~350 USD.

I got the same questions, but I play more multiplayer games. Also considering between the Gigabyte and MSI.
I have this monitor and HDR is unusable outside of wathing HDR videos, too sharp. Have to turn it off for daily usage
Thank you🙏🙏

@@fthzkn I did, I'm not quite sure if it's better or worse. I can cay quality is good, I have no issues with fonts or blacklight bleeding. It's good but I expected more from going HD to 2K + 165 Hz.
