Some tips with using that new machine of yours. I am an excavator operator out here in Colorado. When digging you want to make sure that you're scraping the dirt and rock with the teeth and not the back of the bucket. What works for me is I take the dirt down in layers. If the dirt is hard to dig in I'll keep scratching layers until I get enough loose dirt to get a full bucket, then I'll scoop the dirt out. In addition to digging with the teeth is you won't be wearing out the bucket itself. Since the teeth are the wear items. That also means you won't have to weld crisscross beads all over the bucket to keep it from wearing out. When the teeth wear out don't throw them away, you can weld some AR plates to the tips of them and reuse the teeth. That way you're only buying a second set of teeth and not tens or hundreds of teeth (depending on how much you use the machine).

I think that the challenge Matt has posed to competitors is a bold one based on what HE enjoys: pro-social outreach and mentorship. You know, grown up high EQ stuff.
Nate one word of advice. Never Never move or use your excavator with the door open. You will rip it off. You have to get used to closing it. I’ve seen so many doors on different equipment ripped off. Have fun with it and have fun at the off road game
I understand why you have that perspective. I'm really curious to see how it all works! The cool thing is this is the only event I'm aware of that the primary focus is RUclipsrs. They are trying everything they can to get as many of us in one place as possible and expose our channels to the world. I really appreciate what they are trying to do with this.
Matt is doing the NFL- swiftie thing. Trying to draw in viewers from other areas that he wouldn't normally have. Nate, have fun, enjoy the moment, avoid the poorly maintained vehicles and kick some butt. Spend some playtime around the area making content while you are there.
It makes perfect sense. If everyone got to pick their teams, they'd just pick the best or people they know, and there would be 0 outreach, which completely goes against the goal of the event. It's like kids playing dodgeball. You're going to pick the best in line and ignore the rest. Matt doesn't want a fierce competition as much as he wants everyone to forge relationships and experience something they probably wouldn't see otherwise. Matt probably could have thought of a better way to meet the goal though, maybe each team gets a stock jeep, and they have to modify it as a team. You have to consider how much more expensive for each team something like that would get though.
You may have went a little small with your mini-ex there. The size of a machine dictates how much work you can do with it. The machine needs to be matched with what it is doing, a little on the smaller side is usually better, but that one is one step above a hand shovel.
Lol, this machine is even smaller in person 😂. But it will fit perfectly in between my new shop and the Hill next to it. I need to dig drainage in a bunch of spots on the new property. I have a few machines that I absolutely loved when I did construction but all are outside of what I can afford. Plus after years of making a living working a shovel, I can verify, this little mini is better than back breaking labor
Knew a fella years ago who lost an arm in a rollover - he was fully experienced having competed for decades but managed to lose the plot and an arm in a fairly tame roll. People can't help trying to prevent the unpreventable by sticking a limb out in response to danger. That would be my greatest fear letting a novice loose on those slopes.
There seems to be some confusion I've seen that the drivers will just jump into their vehicles on day one without being accustomed to it. It's my understanding from Matt that the competitors will have plenty of time to train with each other, get to know one another and their vehicles etc. and do some team bonding. Probably making content the whole time for their channels because why not!
Former pro road racer turned off-roader. First time out, I thought I was gonna die the entire time. So, yes, it’s a good partner, but it’s still learning curve.
But, and it might be an essential distinction... Scott will be guided by someone that can take instructions quickly. And I guess that you didn't get spotters the same way he will.
So glad y'all are going to be there. Stick is the only way to go for me . The clutch can save your butt before you turtle over backwards. Looking forward to seeing your video from the game's
I kind of thought it was strange, but Matt does like to encourage new people to try off-roading, and I've seen him even let customers drive the Morrvair and Banana. It probably seems normal to him.
I went wheeling the first time, in moab with a brand new 100k Jeep Wrangler 392. My unexperienced girlfriend was my spotter. We had a blast, no damage and drove it home. Just takes common sense, a little mechanical aptitude and patience all around. It's not rocket surgery.
Well, just your association with MORR has gained you another sub. I'm looking forward to the ORGs and seeing you compete. Wil be catching up on some of your content now.
Hey Nate, regarding the winch problem during king of the hammers. You should add and inline battery isolator / shut off switch between the positive terminal on the battery and the positive connector on the winch. Just incase something happens again.
If I were a rig owner, I would not want some random person driving it. That's a lot of money being risked in potential damages. I wouldn't risk it personally. Good to hear a number of people still are though.
Also attending the games and not following your "regular" upload schedule really tanks the performance of your youtube channel. There are mutiple RUclipsrs that showed their numbers last year.
Cuz last year was a bore fest, and cuz Matt literally never stops talking. So, they probably made a good choice unless they wanted to listen to Matt ramble on about absolutely everything possible. The man never shuts up and always has to be on screen no matter what.
This was my concern from the start, but shook it of as I though that Matt and his team had already agreed with the rest of you on terms of the game. Scenario: I drive your car, you guide/spot me, and break it badly because I didn't listen or our communication was off. Who is taking the cost of rebuilding/fixing the rig.... I totally get it! I'm unable to attend, well... I'm able, but I'm half way across the world. Would have loved to hang out!
Off topic: If you haven't searched yet, there are hydraulic thumb kits on ebay for the mini ex. Also DIY RUclips videos. I'll be doing a DIY conversion on mine soon.
Personally I think the liability excuse is just a cop out to cover up some other drama for some of those RUclipsrs. Something like a disagreement about not being cut into the proceeds of the games or something similar.
In that speech he gave to the university... that's his backup plan having that app, so he can stream content as a backup for $$$. A lot of people didn't see that but the one thing that stood out is that he said he's in entertainment business no more no less now. It sounds like he's over the towing part and thinks he can ride this out to the end of his golden years good luck with that! He thinks he can keep selling Chinese tools for $350 All the merch over 30 bucks to all his newbies viewers Lol!
I think the idea is to work as a team, test different skills like spotting, teaching etc. If you just came and drove your rig your are experienced in then it just becomes king of the hammers..
If people are backing out because they're worried about someone damaging their rig, then they obviously don't understand the opportunity that is in front of them. Even if the worst case scenario happened and something got broken, the exposure your channel will get to possibly tens of millions of viewers, makes it worth it 10 times over.
@@DirtLifestylethat they get teamed with as their RUclips teammate, makeup influencers. The very popular girls and guys who apply makeup as their content.
Seth from berm peak would have been a good fit also! Technical mountain biking seems like it could translate well as we are used to making line choices. He’s also got RC crawler experience!

In short your in good hands.
From what you are saying, the idea is an IROC seties style competition. But since the vehicles belong to people. Those people should be the only one to decide who drives them. Matt has a fleet of vehicles. He has a business that has other people driving his vehicles. But that is different for people who have have their own vehicles. And as far as spotters go. Not everyone spots the same, and trusting someone you are not familiar with, can be a problem.
I would never ever let someone i didnt know behind the wheel of my jeep with no offroad experience . Matt i luv ya brother but ya’ll didn’t think this out very good..
Because the more they think about it, the more they realize.... Wait lots of people with no crowd control right next to inexperienced drivers in YOUR vehicle.... Uhhhhhhhhh sounds like lawsuits.
I was wondering about the same thing 🤔. But since I've never been to this event I don't want to assume anything. From everything I've seen, this looks like it's really well put together, and I'm sure there will be some changes from last year. Maybe crowd control is one of them 🤷.
@@DirtLifestyle How is it any different than any major off road event? Way less dangerous than the events where they have trophy crawlers flinging themselves into the crowd trying to do an obstacle that’s near impossible. Here you have a few rigs slowly crawling a known trail that is very doable (relative).
It’s total a ligit reason to back out, I get it!! But I would also argue that Matt’s channel is huge! And the opportunity to for the invite and to booste your channel is there!! Think business and this is an investment into you business growing
Lol, well, it is a lot better than using a shovel and a dig bar. I have some machines that I absolutely loved when I did construction but they are all out of my price range unfortunately.
When you detail it out like that, I cant imagine why any of you would do it. Tens of Thousands of dollars of investment into an offroad rig, to turn it over to someone who has never driven one, much less on that type of terrain? Not in my rig. Of course, Good Luck! Wish I could be there to watch.

Buy a chinese shoe repair sewing machine (100ish)you can sew tires together.. A top isnt that hard
Or any awning/canopy company
This partnership could be really interesting to see
I think that the challenge Matt has posed to competitors is a bold one based on what HE enjoys: pro-social outreach and mentorship. You know, grown up high EQ stuff.
Some tough guys ain’t so tough when it comes to trusting collaboration
High bass or treble? Which one do adults use?
@@drink15 He's on a different frequency ;)
Nate one word of advice. Never Never move or use your excavator with the door open. You will rip it off. You have to get used to closing it. I’ve seen so many doors on different equipment ripped off. Have fun with it and have fun at the off road game
Not being able to pick your teammate, or being able to compete as builder teams is stupid.
Brillliant comment @@DirtLifestyle
Rock it, Nate! Have a blast
The RUclips algorithm wins again. Watched this a few days ago and today one of Driver61 videos comes up as a recommended video. Can't wait.
I was super sketched out, until you said who it was that’d be driving the Sammi - dude you hit the jackpot!!!
Im not even sure who backed out other than fab rats, but honestly I probably would have too. the concept is cool but the stakes are pretty massive
I don’t like the concept at all. I’m totally uninterested this year.
I haven't seen anyone else back out, and I've been keeping up to date with it.
Where was it posted that fab rats backed out?
@@darekmistrz4364 Fab Rats posted a video letting their fans know they won't be there.
@@heididave0810 Which one? I skimmed through thumbnails and didn't see it explicitly mentioned
Wish I could make it. Had planned to but emergencies happen and wife has to be out of town for the next month or so. Enjoy Nate!
Well, I hope everything gets better at home brother 🙏.
Honestly hoping to see the event from your eyes, and the conversations you have with Driver 61. Glad you guys did well!
Former pro road racer turned off-roader. First time out, I thought I was gonna die the entire time.
So, yes, it’s a good partner, but it’s still learning curve.
What a valuable perspective 👏. Thank you for sharing
@@DirtLifestyle Make sure to keep the tradition alive 😂
But, and it might be an essential distinction... Scott will be guided by someone that can take instructions quickly. And I guess that you didn't get spotters the same way he will.
@@fabr5747 I was just a passenger, driving would’ve been even worse, lol.
Don't feel bad when Rory Irish puts on a clinic.
There are some really fun paintings for this event. Your team is the one Im most excited to watch!
Paintings ??? Or Pairings ???
You need to be really nice to this guy so you can learn to drive an F1 car…
I've driven a Nascar and it was insane! I reached 180 and it was so much faster than it looks on TV. I couldn't imagine F1 😳
Yeah, I wouldn't want a rando driving my rig either. Totally understand why people would back out.
Worst case if someone got their rig wrecked it would still be worth it from just the exposure for their respective channel.
I wouldn’t participate. If anyone is going to bang up my rig, it will be ME!!
I will be rooting for team pickle!
Thank you! I'm really looking forward to meeting my teammate. He seems like a bad ass 🤘
@@DirtLifestyle there's something to be learned from everyone!
Bro u get driver61... I love that guy. I think he can drive anything with tires and a steering wheel..
I went wheeling the first time, in moab with a brand new 100k Jeep Wrangler 392. My unexperienced girlfriend was my spotter. We had a blast, no damage and drove it home. Just takes common sense, a little mechanical aptitude and patience all around. It's not rocket surgery.
I HAVE FOUND THAT TEACHERS MAKE THE BEST STUDENTS.
And I have found the exact opposite because they already know everything.
I'm 6'5" and 330 and drove a sammy for years! lol. I love those things, but I wore that car more than rode in it. Such great little trucks
Well, just your association with MORR has gained you another sub. I'm looking forward to the ORGs and seeing you compete. Wil be catching up on some of your content now.
You lucky bastard. Love Driver61. Can't wait to see how you two go
Hey Nate, regarding the winch problem during king of the hammers. You should add and inline battery isolator / shut off switch between the positive terminal on the battery and the positive connector on the winch. Just incase something happens again.
A cut off switch was the first thing I did when I got back 👍
If I were a rig owner, I would not want some random person driving it. That's a lot of money being risked in potential damages. I wouldn't risk it personally. Good to hear a number of people still are though.
ur no fun
Can't wait to see the rollovers
Also attending the games and not following your "regular" upload schedule really tanks the performance of your youtube channel. There are mutiple RUclipsrs that showed their numbers last year.
To be fair, what rig wouldn't be great with 43s? Can't wait to see it!
Lol true. I'm so pumped about it
Mine wouldn't be great with 43's, I would hate to down grade from 47's.... 😁
Glad to see your participation
very understandable... but also why it is going to be awesome!
Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Thanks for the video
Look forward to seeing you at the Games.👍😎✅🙏💪
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
Off topic: If you haven't searched yet, there are hydraulic thumb kits on ebay for the mini ex. Also DIY RUclips videos. I'll be doing a DIY conversion on mine soon.
I can see Diesel Dave having an issue with this rule 😂
He's not participating in this event, only the offroad wrecker portion
Personally I think the liability excuse is just a cop out to cover up some other drama for some of those RUclipsrs. Something like a disagreement about not being cut into the proceeds of the games or something similar.
You better be going. This is a perfect event for dirtlife
RUclips is broken. Wait until ad revenue fully crashes. Matt will have to start doing recoveries again.
Jealous or envious?@@Cause4Alarm
I don't understand why they want to have other people drive other people's expensive off road vehicles. Makes no sense.
The point is to bring RUclipsrs together and expand off-roading fun. Off-road wheeling is really fun. Doing it and/or watching it.
Because it's fun to watch and brings views. Nate will hopefully get tons of new subscribers after this. (I just subscribed!)
I think the idea is to work as a team, test different skills like spotting, teaching etc. If you just came and drove your rig your are experienced in then it just becomes king of the hammers..
It's entertainment and a way to level the playing field
If people are backing out because they're worried about someone damaging their rig, then they obviously don't understand the opportunity that is in front of them. Even if the worst case scenario happened and something got broken, the exposure your channel will get to possibly tens of millions of viewers, makes it worth it 10 times over.
I hope everyone gets makeup influencers.
😂😂😂😂
I don't know what this means exactly, lol. Are you saying you hope the folks who backed out get replaced?
@@DirtLifestylethat they get teamed with as their RUclips teammate, makeup influencers. The very popular girls and guys who apply makeup as their content.
@@A-Negative lol that went right over my head. Influencers that apply make up, got it 🤣
@A-Negative exactly what I ment, Thank you!
Best of luck, just go and have a great time.
Seth from berm peak would have been a good fit also! Technical mountain biking seems like it could translate well as we are used to making line choices. He’s also got RC crawler experience!
I have been a happy subscriber for a long time now and I never knew Nate was 6’-1!
It's a personal decision. Go or don't go. Easy.
Scott is well versed with the whole dynamics of not just a racecar but cars in general and is very good with the dynamics . suspension and etc. I would take this opportunity to pick his brain with regards to suspension and overall dyanmics that u can improve on ur projects. In short your in good hands.
I like to watch the matt's of road recovery's keep on doing the good work I am staying in south Africa
Way to keep it positive, your only competition might be Ed Boylan of Vin Wiki.
Good luck Nate 👍
Thank you!
I think it is awesome, to show someone what you love to do. Good luck 👍
I would never ever let someone i didnt know behind the wheel of my jeep with no offroad experience . Matt i luv ya brother but ya’ll didn’t think this out very good..
You're missing the overall point.
I like the changes they made. Also I am a subscriber to Matt's off road.
See you out there! Hopefully we can shake hands
We'll be there!
You better say hi!
@@DirtLifestyle gotta grab a samurai shirt!
Scott can drive the wheels off anything, hopefully he keeps it the right way up.. will definitely make for some interesting content.
Lawsuits? That's ok, LegalEagle will be there to sort them out.
It’s total a ligit reason to back out, I get it!! But I would also argue that Matt’s channel is huge! And the opportunity to for the invite and to booste your channel is there!! Think business and this is an investment into you business growing
See ya there
Come say hi 😁
I've been waiting for this event since the last one ❤
Im looking forward to Nate creating a new friendship and seeing him learn how to drive formula1🤘🇺🇲
I think you need a MORR sticker on that yellow mini!
Risk is entertainment.
Yes it is
Hmm Nate, that excavator isn’t big enough to build a rock garden fyi 😬
Lol, well, it is a lot better than using a shovel and a dig bar. I have some machines that I absolutely loved when I did construction but they are all out of my price range unfortunately.
@@DirtLifestyle right on. I’m sure you’ll make it work somehow 🤙🏼
@@DirtLifestyle That forklift of yours might also come in handy to set some bigger rocks first while the trail is in it's flattest state.
I would love for the opportunity for my channel to be invited to the games, congrats Nate! Man yall are going to have a lot of fun!
We will see ya out there, coming in from AZ! We are driving our rigs and plan to hit some dirt while we are there!
I got distracted by the mini excavator!
I've got lots of dirt if you want to get any practice in.
Hah! Just rewatched it!
Nevermind go dig holes on your own new property! Hehe
Congratulations to you and your family!
Way awesome man, good luck!
I honestly have zero interest in the Off Road Games this year. The format makes no sense to me. No way would I let someone I don’t even know, who isn’t even and off roader drive my rig period, let alone difficult trails at Sand Hollow!!
