- Only a few can say they work on every inch of a fighter jet, and as an AM, you’re one of them. Aviation Structural Mechanics maintain and repair everything from the nose of the aircraft, to the landing gear. Once you learn the ropes in the Navy’s aviation mechanic school, you’ll be placed on a ship or in a squadron. Service the hydraulics, test out flight controls, repair the ejection system, and conduct pre-flight inspections. Post-service, your skills can take you anywhere from an international airline, to NASA. Find out more at bit.ly/2BEgOsm

One year in🫡
When i was in the Navy there were 3 AM rates: AMS-structures, AMH-hydraulics, and AME-ejection seats/equipment. I think the Navy merged the AMS and AMH rates, are the E's still independent??
elwin38 yessir AMEs are still around
Cool!! To me there are certain rates that should NOT be merged(AME is one of them). When you merge a rate, it becomes instantly overmanned. If they were going to merge AME's, it should be with the Parachute Riggers(PR's). Those 2 rates have always worked hand in hand.
It depends. On F18 there was an AME and AM shop. On MH60S they are all seen as AM.
I work on E-2Ds and we have AMs, AMEs, and PRs all in separate work centers
Just got this job yesterday
💪💪
I’m signing my contract for this job!!!
Did it today!
*Magnificent* I’m doing it in 5 hours see you in Florida brother
I really hope they bring this one up at meps. This is incredible
@@eclipz2278 how many years contract?
Zack Ryu 5 years
Do they work on the engines
FutureDieselTech no that’s an AD
Can you deploy on ships with this job or pretty much any mechanic type job
Yeah so you can get deployed as an engineman, hull technician, machinist mate. Pretty much any engineering rate. I don’t know about the aviation rates tho
Oh yes. Did 20 years as a AMS before retiring in 1996. That maybe before you were born. You will see a ship, probably a real big one. Spent 14 years at sea and most of the time forward deployed to places you would not like to be. Work like a dog 12 to 18 hours a day for weeks on end. Little sleep, no time off and very low pay. If I was 18 or 19 again I would probably do it again. Now I’m a A&P working Sheetmetal at UPS making over $160K a year. It’s a long way to the top but if you really want it, go for it. But never stop, look back, but never give up. Good luck.
Simple answer: Yes. A.I.M.D or Squadrons
Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department
AIMD means you will either be
“Ships company” (on a ship like an Aircraft carrier or LHD) or on a shore command. If it’s your 1st contact you will mostly get “Sea duty”
Usually you have to do a certain amount of yrs at sea before you can get shore duty. If you get a squadron and it’s still sea duty. You’ll be working from a shore base command and will go out to sea when the ship your attached to goes out to sea on deployment. (Or underway)
There’s a lot of differences between AIMD and Squadrons. One being the type of work you do. You can think of it as -> AIMD fixes parts for the aircraft (I-level maintenance) and Squadrons take the parts & put them back on the aircraft. Along with maintaining and
up-keeping the aircraft (O-level maintenance)
If you want a mechanic job consider these 2
AM- Aviation Structures Mechanic or

AD- Aviation Machinist’s Mate

Hope this helps ⚓️👍🏽
