    Video ideas: Analysis of other singers tones. Example: William Singe has mastered closed vowels and effortless tone. Analysis of one of his covers, or parts, and explain a coordination. Heck, you could make a video explaining a single coordination. You ever though of doing some covers? I heard your awesome tone in the other video where you sung Roxanne... was freaking impressive.

    Hey just asking! If you are a baritone, how high should you be able to go in your M1.5 or mix? I have stretched my range up to an A4 in full voice, but above A4 (sometimes a Bb4) my voice sounds massively heady although I can use the notes.

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  6 лет назад +26

      That's super common! I think with time, depending on your age, most male voice don't fully mature until the 30's. I am a believer most baritones can access a C5 with a fuller voice with proper training. I've seen it happen so many times. In fact a lot of them end up just singing tenor parts. But it is a struggle for a true baritone no doubt.

    • @S3CT0R49
      @S3CT0R49 6 лет назад

      Tyler Wysong Yes very true, the vocal fach system only outlines the type of range a certain singer with a certain timbre needs to play their roles in the opera appropriately. The listed ranges for each voice type has little to do with biology, but rather proper training. Most younger guys that think they are a baritone are usually and almost always just an untrained tenor.

    i get this muscle work when i go to head, near to c5, no matter if in legato or stecato (male baritone here). about opening the mounth, i noticed it makes the finger move further from the tongue muscles, falsly giving the impression the muscle work less, but thats an illusion.

    tyler....you are one ace teacher.one thing i wanted to ask is if i push up that muscle when doing this exercise will it eventually stay there and how to i strengthen my upper mixed voice range so there is no noticeable volume and strength change when i go over my break.
    fantastic videos and teacher mate....you're the best.

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  5 лет назад

      Yes it should eventually stay there. I think it's important to mention that one of the main things we actually feel pushing down is the tongue, so one thing you are giving yourself a chance to do when monitoring underneath the chin is how to rearrange all those muscles including the tongue so that they don't engage and or push down when you sing especially as you ascend in pitch! I hope that helps! Keep up the good work!

    Hey Tyler, I really appreciate the videos you have posted and you are the first teacher that has managed to get me into my mix. However,I have a few questions regarding the mixed voice. The first question is how do you sing in a full 50/50 mix, but keep it quiet? I struggle to do anything except blast out my mix with high volume, but I'd like to be able to sing quietly with my mix. The Second question is how do I bring my mix down to my primo passaggio/first break? Whenever I try to, my voice picks up this "Kermit the frog"-y kind of sound and sounds very different from my normal chest voice. Lastly, will my mix sound more and more like my chest voice the more I develop it? Thank you so much

    Hey Tyler, thanks for the video. I had a question, while during this exercises here should I sing sing the higher notes with power or light mixed/head voice? Cause I can feel that there is a difference in my voice where I can sing easily these high notes if I sing light but that sounds more like head voice, there is no lower frequency warmth/ power. But if I do sing with more weight it gets hard to not strain. But this second way of singing sound more like what you explain to be mixed voice.
    Thanks in advance

      Ray Jezrel Centurion roll your tongue around your teeth ten times in both directions before you sing, so it roughly 3 times! It’s a simple exercises but it’s effective for tension
      Also, drink lots of fluid and go for a walk before you sing, it’ll help to open up your diaphragm

    Hey, I came across your video's and can't wait to try them out. I have been singing in my chest and head voice for so long and feel like I have a bad habit now of singing in just those ranges and struggling to mix my voice. My head voice and chest voice I feel is strong, I just struggle to combine. I also struggle with post nasal drip which sometimes f*cks it all up but I am found remedies which will hopefully work. Just wondering, in time the more I practise will it eventually combine? Or is this just my voice now :( I don't want to strain anymore in the chest voice to hit the powerful high notes.. x

    • @tylerwysong

    Hi Tyler, I find that my mix voice is very good most of the time, however when I get nervous I start pulling chest. Also, in the lip bubble exercise, I can go up to about F sharp 5 without flipping into my falsetto but in my lyrical voice it's usually super thin past an f sharp 4 unless I just yell really hard. Classical teachers tell me that my voice still flips in the lip bubble it's just masked better, but my SLS teacher says that it's my mix voice all the way up to f sharp 5. Why is there controversy between classical and SLS? Thanks.

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  6 лет назад +1

      Just to be clear I am not an SLS teacher although the routes of what I teach are found in SLS. I find that SLS teacher tend to prefer a lighter sound often what I would refer to as head voice as well. It's hard to say why there is a controversy, but to me its more important that YOU get it and not so much about WHO is right. hope that helps. Maybe I'll make a video on this soon.

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  6 лет назад +3

      Ha! Indeed this is not meant for the stage! It is a good idea to check in from time to time to make sure you are singing without tension under the chin. In the future maybe I will go a little deeper with how to apply this to live performance singing. What i would do is take the melody of your chorus and sing it all on "Mum" with your thumbs under your chin then take your thumbs away and put the words where the exercise was. i think this is really effective way to practice that will prepare you to sing with much less tension once you hit the stage. hope this helps. Cheers.

    Hi Tyler, I'm a tenor at our choir but my range is only baritone so I tried to study mixed voice and I'm stuck. I already knew how to lift the soft palate, to have the twang, to have support, and I also have a strong headvoice up to Eb6 so I really don't know what's the problem. Thanks

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  5 лет назад

      I guess it depends how you are going about "raising your soft palate"? That certainly could keep you out of singing in mix voice. Often times we think we are creating more space back there but instead we are just engaging tongue muscles that crowd the throat. It's hard to say without hearing you, but I do find many singers who are actively "raising the palate" tend to have a harder time singing in mix.

    Hey Tyler!! Hope you are doing great! Thanks for everything that you have taught it have been very helpful! I have a question regarding the mix! I have seen some teacher saying that the mix is something like a baby cry voice and is nasal feeling. Some said there should nt be any nasal feeling. What are your thoughts on it? Thank you soo much and keep making this amazing videos!

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  5 лет назад +1

      Hmm I don't personally teach it that way. I'm not saying that can't be effective. I think sometimes thinking of a cry can be helpful in some instances, but to me thinking of a cry is very different that a nasal feeling. I would assume they mean sensation in the mask or front of the face, the issue with that is feelings are very individual so someone might sound great with a "nasal feeling" while someone else might just end up sounding nasal. For me I try to use more objective language of what is actually happening and then allow my students to create their own mental structures. I think that is what's most important you making the right sound and then discovering what it feels like for you. For me personally my mix voice doesn't feel nasal at all, i do feel frontal vibrations but it certainly doesn't feel nasal.

    • @tylerwysong
      @tylerwysong  6 лет назад +1

      Fantastic question! Yes in order to stay in what some term a "robust voice" or as I call it mixed voice you will need to modify or tune the vowels a little bit mainly by slight jaw dropping (I emphasize slight) the higher you go. If you don't modify 2 things will most likely happen. 1.) Things will become squeezed or strained or 2.) You will go into head voice or falsetto. This is a huge topic of study I do with my personal clients because it is one of the keys to having a connected voice from bottom to top. Best of luck to you! Keep at it, you will get it!

    plsss help...My mixed voice doesnt sound very good everytime I pass my break point.. even though I put some open vowels, neutral larynx, soft palate coordination, compression and breath support I still got this very little raspy sound not a good distortion but it sounds like a dying pig getting beaten .. it sounds very chesty and strong and powerful but the problem is .. it sounds awful ..I would be glad if you could give me your email so that I could send you a clip of me singing Always by bon jovi through gmail and it sounds terrible when I go past my break point ..

    Hello Tyler ,
    Working with the program of mastering mix ,
    I've been struggling with those swalowing muscles for a while ,
    I can do the exercice and not engage those muscles as long as I switch during the exercice from M1 to M2
    but... I just can't NOT engage them if i don't switch starting from E 4 and above .
    No way to go trough the passagio without switching coordination
    As you do the exercice I also ear you doing as I do meaning switching from M1 to M2
    I can do sirenes from down to up and vice versa without any "flip " the passage being inaudible from chest to head but ... it's not helping me at all to find a true relax mix as you demonstrate in roxane meaning singing a MIX witch is REAL VOICE .
    I've been able to build a quite convincing reinforced falsetto with no air quite "meaty" with distortion to sing stuff like Led zep ,But even though I can fool people with it .
    I totally fell like I'm cheating .
    No matter how good I can fake it It's still not REAL VOICE .
    so what I'm saying is that erasing all the trace of the passagio has not helped me to build of good comfortable mix at all and to sing freely from F to above after years of trying. singing success metode .
    I'm still facing to clearly 2 different mecanics and I manage now to sing in m1 only untill G4 on good days but I can't hold them long and pretty and free .
    Do you understand what I'm facing do you have an advice about it .
    cocerning this video how to not engage swalowing musle when NOT SWITCHING ...
    I really like the 2 videos you have made and your convincing demonstrations .
    I'm interrested in taking class with you
    As I live in Switzerland can we find a time to work together .
    hope to ear from you and to work with you if possible
    David

      Hello, Mastering Mix is great program! Those swallowing muscles are a huge issue for 90% of the people I have ever worked with, so don't worry you are not alone. I totally know what you mean regarding the "REAL voice". I think the answer to your question/problem will most likely come down to the acoustics of it (shaping the vowel correctly to match the proper formant tuning). Of course I am just guessing here, but that is my gut instinct. It would be an honor to work with you, email bookingtylerwysong@gmail.com for more information about booking a lesson or feel free to visit my website at tylerwysongmethod.com

    So if you push your tongue more to the back of the throat will that help keep the muscle in the throat down and prevent strain

      Hard to answer via text. I guess it depends on what you mean by push your tongue back? You don't want a feeling of rigidness but when the tongue is in it's relaxed posture it often feels slightly up and back (slightly emphasized). In fact if you view some of the great classical singers like Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, or Juan Diego Florez, a slightly retracted tongue tip can be observed.

    Hey! Tyler I've seen your other videos and I've made a rough idea that going into mix voice is just relaxing your larynx and the muscles below your chin and letting your chest voice go higher but that doesn't seem to work for me, as a go to a F4(F above the middle C) my voice feels very sharp and it feels like my voice is approaching up towards my nose, and then I'm not able to sing any higher... What should I do?I'm a bass vocal type, I can go up to a C2..My age is 16

      Hd Gameplays, I bet your larynx goes up when you go to F4 the way you described. I'm also low bari, I have E2-F2 pretty full and resonant. I'm on the 6th month of vocal training and recently I and my vocal coach came to conclusion that I should sing quietly. It really helped me to understand that I started to strain at G3-A3, before to go higher I yelled up to D4 when I understood how to use twang it's just forced. I don't know your background but I strongly suggest not to push. Start with a quiet sound experiment with don't forget about support and don't blow air, quiet but with good chord closure. My support is developed so for it's easier. My last comfy note for now is F#3 so I'm gonna keep good chord closure on notes higher on a quiet sound relaxing muscles under my chin (I guess they're one of the causes of strain) and implementing support. The heck I'm gonna do this but I need to try.

      @@user-tp1jo9sd6c thanks..for your help..! but when I try to be quiet and sing high my voice just feels unconnected...it's not false tone that I know very well, I can easily bring it down..but It feels and sounds very weird...I don't feel the energy and the power while singing high quietly and my voice becomes shrill...and as I'm a bass vocal type the shrill voice doesn't sound good....
