    I’ve been trying to define “resonance” for years and only thought I understood. Visually being able to see the subharmonics really helped this click for me! We need that tongue and laryngeal position to create a proper vowel shape so we can not only produce the pitch we’re singing, but also the overtones that help us perceive the pitch as balanced and clear!! Incredible!!!!

    I’m a piano teacher but a beginner singer (7 months into lessons) and this video was so helpful and super interesting! Love understanding what’s happening with the sounds and the feel of the air pressure difference with chest and head voice. Thanks for such a helpful video 😊

    Finally, a video that actually makes sense of formants!!! I understand the theory that different vowels are going to work better at different pitches but then get lost when people start talking about first and second formants. This is amazing, thank you!!!

    I am amazed! I see this in my head! I don't know anything about music as far as notes go right now! I'm learning. But I see music in my head, and I have taught myself to sing by aiming my voice at what feels like a 4d graph that extend from my body! As weird as that sounds. And I feel where a note sits and aim my voice at that spot util it locks in!
    So, hearing the music and science behind this is incredible!
    I can't wait to learn more!

    I love it, I just didn’t understand the use of the fry before the sound, is it to release sub glottal pressure? If so, why not using sounds that could be less misleading (as for example starting with “V” or using lips trills?) i just am worried that a beginner student could confuse vocal fry with false vocal chords constriction
    Many thanks 🙏🏼

  • @novakastmusic

    Vocal Fry has INSANE uses in bass and subharmonic singing. Also intentional distortion. It is only terrible when pushed too hard and uncontrolled.

    Does it matter if the vocal fry continues into the nuh nuh nuh? I have to push a little harder to get it to be clean which seems to defeat the purpose of setting up the correct pressure with the fry.

  • @TVKompt

    Hi! Are harmonics and formants the same?

    • @milton.lemonpie
      @milton.lemonpie Год назад

      Harmonics: they come from the vibration of the vocal folds and modulation of the airflow as it passes between the vibrating folds. Sounds like a buzz alone. Formants: They come from the bouncing of the primary vocal fold sound in the vocal tract and by resonance make some frequencies more pronounced than others; these frequencies are the formants.
      Think a guitar: the strings do what the vocal folds do and the wooden body gives the characteristic guitar timbre (which for the voice is perceived as vowel and vocal timbre)

  • @cryptomaniac6926
    @cryptomaniac6926 Год назад

    does this apply to males as well?

    • @milton.lemonpie
      @milton.lemonpie Год назад

      The principle yes, the numbers (and hence vowels) not necessarily. One needs to see which vowels have a formant frequency around the frequency of the second harmonic (double the fundamental frequency) for the note region where your passaggio is (where you would presumably like to find a mixed pop-like sound) and employ these vowels.

    Yea I can’t do anything with all those graphs and waves. Seems like nobody can explain mixed voice in plain terms…..as in NOBODY! Makes me wonder if mix is even a real thing. Been singing all my life and never heard of mix until about 10 years ago. Before then, you either had the range or your didn’t. Seems to me, Mix is something that doesn’t really exist in reality. Really didn’t get anything out of this video….no more than any other of the 100’s of videos on the topic over the years.
