      That’s so sad ☹️ The mixed register is beyond important in any style of singing. So grateful for coaches who release this kind of free content 🙌🏽 check out Claire Hosterman on Instagram for some more mixed voice info as well! These videos and her’s have helped me so danged much.

      I thought that the purpose of classical technique was to establish one long range that you can sing through so that there are no breaks in register. Breaks in register are against the style of classical, thus I thought mixed register was almost a requirement?

    • @kimberlee9074
      @kimberlee9074 4 года назад +23

      I wonder if i had a bad teacher?haha. I was told that I had to switch from chest voice to head voice and just back the power with diaphragm and breath control. I have always just felt defeated that my "chest voice" broke so low.

    • @PixieDustParticle
      @PixieDustParticle 4 года назад +27

      Kimber Lyn yes, indeed. I do not necessarily want to judge anyone because some teachers are simply ignorant to how singing really works, but mixed voice is such a beautiful, massive, needed bridge and a big key to understanding and aiding proper placement. Singing is so much more than the diaphragm which is such a small piece of the puzzle especially if it is not properly explained. I believe the best teachers explain in much detail how every area of the body (no matter how small), works when vocalizing. Not to mention it makes singing a lot more fun and fascinating.

I really have been working on Nick's voice and have much many videos on this. And instead of just going up and scale and down and scale you taught me something that I've never done before. I was able to make the prettiest sound come out of my face today and it Spooks me. I just want to say thank you for all the hard work and education that you put out there. this is SO helpful! i have a theory that ariana grande's voice naturally mixes and that's how she can sing notes that sound "belted" while going through the higher 5th octave!! I'm gonna be using this exercise a lot, thank you :)

    • @lolamiley
      @lolamiley 4 года назад +69

      Ariana definitely has a natural mix! She’s been singing most of her life so that’s why it sounds so effortless for her. I know a few people who have natural mixes and actually struggle to separate the registers

    • @griffox
      @griffox 4 года назад +48

      @@lolamiley Everyone discovers their voice in their own way. Some of us, especially if we didn't know better, develop bad techniques in trying to emulate the singers we want to sound like. You can sing with bad technique your whole life. Or you might be someone who just happens upon good technique or is lucky enough to have coaching from an early age and learn the correct way from the beginning. I just want to point that out, in case someone who is just beginning on their singing journey thinks it's hopeless since they haven't been singing their whole life like Ariana. Being a beginner who hasn't spent years reinforcing bad habits is not a bad place to be.

      yep thats pretty much it. I can confirm the info here is good. I can now sing "Take on Me" with no vocal cracks in the chorus. I can also sing Muse songs because of this info.
      My range was before singing was a C2 to G4 which is an OK range but I wanted to sing Muse songs. My range now is from a C2 to a G#5 (I can hit an A5 but its a scream at that point, can't form words in an A5, The G#5 is the last note I can form words with) thats a pretty huge jump in range and it is all owed to RUclipsrs sharing information.

    Thank you so much! You are very effective at explaining how the mix should feel in your head. I love how you said you are just exhaling through the nose. And I love how you describe what it would sound like if you make a mistake and it gets shaky. That was happening to me and I didn’t know why but you addressed that right in the beginning so I was able to try again and relax my throat. And I love the bicycle ride analogy! So helpful! I just have to give myself grace to get through the wobbles and then eventually I will be able to “ride” (sing) straight and steady. You are wonderful. Many thanks! God bless and stay safe😁
