John Frusciante Sound | How to use the Boss DS2 with the Line 6 HX Stomp

I know that the sound & the playing are not spot on, but I think it's pretty good for a "amp-sim".
In order to use the Boss DS2, you have to use a dirty amp-sim. For me the "Brit 2204" works best. A clean amp won't work, because the DS2 will go wild. It's basically the same with real amps. You can find the settings in the video

Yeah, it‘s horrible with clean settings. With a real clean & loud amp you would break your windows.

Awesome sounding vid, I want to buy a new rig so that I can do rhcp/ John Frusciante stuff but also clean/dirty stuff shoegaze/ Dream pop/ U2 / indie pop stuff, I was looking at jc40. Can i pull off John Frusciante tone with jc40 + pedals? Or should i go with hx stomp so I can do all of this^. Only worried I wont think the tone sounds realistic enough to me, like it sounds 90% there but I feel a real amp would be more satisfying

I don‘t think a jc40 is capable of that. It has amazing cleans, but it will only do the frusciante dirty/clean tone with pedals. You would need a Marshall Jackhammer or something like that, that does the „Marshall in a box“ thing.
Of course a real amp sounds more realistic than the stomp. But the hx stomp is capable of so many things & for the price the sounds are incredibly good. Everything you hear on my channel is played with the hx stomp (except for one vid) and I‘m quite satisfied with my sound, at least with the last vids.
My advice: If you‘re planning to play at home all the time: get the hx stomp, a helix oder something like that + monitor boxes, you basically can have unlimited sounds. For a live situation I would still recommend a real amp. I‘m using a jcm 800 studio :)
@@mickkraviz thanks for the reply, I do have a marshall jackhammer, does the jc40 take that pedal well for John tone? Im gonna try the jc40 and hx stomp in the store, and maybe ill get both eventually haha. Just trynna keep the budget low, im in college rn
@@fuzzedOut I have to admit, I don‘t prefer the jc40 when it comes to dirty tones and I don‘t think it takes the jackhammer that well, but that‘s only my opinion. The best way would be if you try it :)

@@mickkraviz have you tried the UAD/ Softtube, official marshall plexi plugin? You can download demo of it on softube. I tried it today and think it sounds really good in general and also for John Frusciante tone. Im gonna test it more and I think I might use that as my main amp and just get pedals to go into the plugin to get diff tones. If you try it maybe make a vid comparing it to ur marshall and line 6 John patch

sure why not, but you have to use the amp sim without the cabinet :)
i know im a little late but what would change about the preset to use with a ce-1 pre amp? i got one but i dont really know what to do
no problem! I don‘t use the hx stomp anymore, but I would advise you to use a marshall - style amp with a good clean tone which is almost „crunchy“ and push it with the ce-1 preamp in order to give you a small little overdrive sound, when you strum your guitar with more power :D

Sounds cool, but in my view i would say the Boss DS2 sounds a little dirt and i would prefer a distortion cleaner, am i clear?
I don‘t really get what you mean. He used a Boss DS-2 for at least 4 albums 😅
@@mickkraviz Yeah, it's true, but i feel the pedal set isn't the same like the one you're using, it's not as heavy
@@Steve_912 as far as I know, john used the ds-2 with all dials at max, but depends on your own taste of course :)
