If “K&K Pure Mini” had been included in the video title, I would have found it years ago.. I was looking. Great preset and concept using the impedance with softing staged EQs. MWW has a knack 👍🏽
Purchased this for my D18 with a Pure Mini. It work perfect with small tweaks for the mahogany back and sides. I also have had excellent results with your 5c3 Fullerton presets/IRs as well.
Thanks for the video! I just added a K&K Pure Mini to my 000-15 and this helped me set up my Stomp for it.
There is so much involved in tone shaping. Guitar wood, strings, signal chain, IR's. Seems like the more you add in, the more daunting it becomes. Easy to spend more time tweaking and less time playing. Very much a rabbit hole. Thanks for posting and showing your approach Michael!

Just got a HX Stomp XL. I play a fair amount of acoustic - I have a Bourgeois OM Vintage which is a lot like your Martin. This video is a huge help. It will be really nice to get a decent acoustic tone without a mic. Thankyou.

Used your acoustic patches at church as a did not feel like dialing in my own. Have not even had the stomp for a week yet, so dialing in patches for different instruments is not something I am confident in yet, but learning. Needless to say it was plug n play with some additional off-board reverbs and delays and it sounded very good. Thanks man. $2.50 for your expertise and saving me time was definitely something I could not pass on.

I love my Taylor. However as you know piezo's are notoriously difficult to EQ. However with my Stomp using a parametric EQ on the front of the chain and a 10 band EQ at the end. In between using only reverbs and delay. I don't use any amp model. This has given me a real warm, clear, and great acoustic sound. I was able to get rid of that boxy piezo midrange.
Holy cow, this is amazing. Recently got an Eastman E20 OM-TC and was trying to dial it in using IRs from other guitars. Your patch sounds so much better and more realistic than anything else I've found. Thank you for putting this video out there. Glad it's working out for you! Yeah, I've not had much success with acoustic IR's as a general solution. I think if you make one for your specific guitar they can be amazing. At that point it's just a finely tuned EQ.
How did it turn out? Im planning on using this for my Eastman E10SS this weekend.
@@SamuelStephen It sounds so good. It emphasizes the natural tones and aspects of the guitar that made me buy that particular model in the first place.
Those mids on the 10SS will absolutely sing!
@@kingdomtone I bought the presets yday and tried it at Rehearsal - Loved them! I fused it with the delays from David Hislop electric preset to get the gallop-ing of one of the Phil Wickham songs :)

Yeah! I think acoustic, especially live, is one of the hardest instruments to get sounding great.

Seems like a perfect setup for live gigs; especially for those of us that are the utility guys that are jumping among acoustic, electric, and mandolin. You could program a few presets via midi

You should post a preset pack for mando or banjo too. Never thought of the stomp as an acoustic instrument tool, but man, this could simplify a lot of things on my end. Cheers Michael!

You should check out the acoustic IR’s from Worship Tutorials! They were a game changer for my acoustic w/ HX stomp. Highly, highly recommend for anyone who plays acoustic DI
I have a Taylor 214CE with the ES2 that sounds great unplugged but the treble it way to loud for me plugged in to sound board any ideas. I am open to pulling the ES2 out and adding another EQ.

Is the vol knob all the way up unity gain?
I have the Volume knob so it doesn't control the output of the L/R outputs. (It's in global settings) I'm not really sure about where unity gain on it is.
I appreciate your diligent work, and you got it to sound as good as an acoustic with a pickup is ever going to sound, which is ... not very good. I'm sorry, I'm a broken record and I'm leaving similar comments on tons of videos about amplifying acoustics. There is a roadblock to getting natural sounds this way that no amount of EQ, reverb or other trickery can overcome. What makes an acoustic guitar sound "real" is a complex and rich bundle of elements, and the PU takes one of the most crucial ones out right at the source. Call it "air". Whatever happens right outside of the instrument needs to be captured to ever get that sound, and only a microphone can achieve that. I don't understand why acoustic players can't make that compromise. I know, you now can't run around freely on stage, but is that really such a high price to pay for ACTUAL acoustic sound? I also understand that it's not always practical, but who needs the sound of an acoustic in a loud band anyway? And as soon as you play a quiet piece like your opening tune, a good mic is your best friend. Sorry for the rambling.
You are absolutely right! Acoustic pickups generally leave something to be desired. The best case scenario IMO is something that incorporates a mic. It’s all compromise - once a mic is introduced into the equation feedback becomes a concern and is typically an issue early on. Certain styles and settings it’s just not possible.
@@MichaelWWestbrook Thanks. The best solution I've found so far is the L.R.Baggs Anthem pick up & mic, where the mic is inside the body, under the bridge. You'd think that would make it super boomy, but it's voiced in such a way that you get what you need without a lot of feedback danger. Granted, I haven't cranked it to rock band levels ...
Yeah, that’s one of the best I’ve heard for sure. I know a lot of pros that swear by it.

As a total generalisation, electric guitar amps are designed to give a particular sound. This is from the preamp right through to the speaker and cabinet. In particular around distortion and adding colour to the electric guitar. Which is why a Marshall, a Vox, and a Fender amp all have their own sound. Acoustic guitar amps, again as a generalisation, are designed to have a wider flatter sound and to not add colour to the acoustic sound. If they have a bigger main speaker, they will often have a tweeter/horn as well, or will use several smaller speakers rather than one big one in the cabinet, so that they present the sound as clean as possible ....
... if you're not driving your electric guitar amplifier hard, then you can get a reasonable sound out of an electric guitar amp, but an acoustic amp will almost always sound better. Using something like the HX Stomp, it might even be better to consider either a powered PA speaker or a FRFR speaker as the Stomp can do amp and cab emulations.

Hi Michael. Bought the acoustic preset along with another and the IR pack. The 2 Acoustic presets sound great with my Martin D1. I tried them with my Godin A6 which has a piezo and a humbucker. I am still learning about EQing. The humbucker sounds great but the piezo gets pretty harsh and buzzy. Is the fix with one of the eq blocks dialing out highs? Great videos/channel!!
Yeah try EQ but also try adjusting the input impedance first. The EQ should be good starting points
Hi Nick, I also have a godin A6 ultra, and I'm thinking of buying an HX stomp. Have you been able to plug both the acoustic and electric signals into the HX stomp and set up different amps/IRs/fx for them?
@@AlexBradyMusic Hi Alex. I can and do connect the Godin in to the right and left inputs of the Stomp. I haven’t tried setting up different amps and IRs within the same preset per right/left input, not really sure if that can be done. But, I do have presets that have different amp, preamp, cab, IR combinations depending on how I have the pickups setup. I did buy presets from Peter Hamm (sorry Michael-but i have bought your stuff too 😎) on the Line6 site that are designed for guitars Like the Godin. They work pretty well for a “combined” sound but may also help with understanding how to create a preset for the Godin. I have the bulk of my issues with the piezo pickup. Also I have played around with strings a lot. I have settled on D’Addario EXL110W. As you may know Godin recommends a wound G string. Also I had to have the guitar setup by a luthier for it to play right. Good luck and let me k is how you make out. I play it about 10% of the time…

It looks like it is possible to set up 2 separate signal paths with their own effects as shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/3ymC5TRyEnU/видео.html . Could be something to check out so you can do your EQ on the piezo pickups separately. Maybe that could help with your issues!
@@AlexBradyMusic thanks for the link! Always learning something new. I gigged with the 2 cable setup a couple of weeks ago and it was a bit difficult because the space was small and the cables kept getting twisted, etc. I taped 2 - 1/4” cables together. It made moving around difficult. Going back to a single cable again when playing out but double when home/recording.
Wonder if it can compete with a Fishman Aura Spectrum for recording acoustic direct.
Even the fishman spectrum requires quite a bit of tweaking for convincing direct recording, so I’m not sure this will do better
I found that the studio pre immediately eliminated the piezo quack. Why is that?
I tried to do that with EQ but only helped slightly

@@MichaelWWestbrook I would agree with this. Michael love your content. I use an acoustic occasionally with The stomp. I do notice the pre-amp at times tends to be over driven when playing hard. Not sure if there’s any way around this? If you lower the drive you lower the volume and have to compensate with boosting the output. Seems hard to find that balance to keep a clean acoustic sound. Any ideas?

I actually tried some IR’s and found I was able to get similar results that I preferred without one.
@@MichaelWWestbrook True - IRs are NOT a silver bullet! Most of the acoustic ones have this boxy ambient artifact, because honestly, most folks just do not have the best technique in capturing IRs.
