I like digital but also dont like having to tweak and tweak and tweak. I feel like getting a solid tone in the Helix is pretty easy to do and to do quickly.
To add to the discussion, compared to similar models from other companies, the form and design of the Helix Floor (not LT/HX Stomp/Stomp XL) is timeless in my opinion. It's minimal, futuristic, and a modern classic that I believe will never go out of style. It's simply a beautiful piece of gear.
Glad you mentioned the HX Effects. It's been off the Line 6 discussion forums for at least two years. It's all I have so I'm in a wait and see mode. I want to see sampling rate, processor and DRAM specifications comparisons before I make the next plunge.
I had this green overdrive pedal from Ibanez since the late seventies as well as a Gibson Les Paul that’s from around ‘59 or so. They were nice but ofcourse very outdated by now, so i sold them on Craigslist and from the money i bought a nice modern sounding overdrive from Joyo as well as one of the latest models from Harley Benton at Thomann. I am so much more happy now.
Just bought one. Mostly because I just wanted to be able to buy patches for songs rather than waste time making my own and I wanted one device to do almost everything.
I recently got a new Helix Floor along with Helix Native because I feel like it does exactly what I need it to do. I know Line 6 has something new planned for the near future, possibly a new line of modelers. But even if they blow us away with something new, I feel like Helix would still be a great option, just maybe not the best option.
IMHO the selling point of the helix was the functionality; yes it has great amp and effects modeling, but I think the fact that it can integrate similarly to how a G System could is what sold me on it. Even without amp modeling, and maybe even drives, the fact is that you can still loop other effects in and control them with both preset and individual functions, and along with having it do things like switch amp channels, still makes it’s really competitive IMHO.
Honestly, Line 6 doesn't give you guys enough kudos, and maybe the worship community is small, but you guys have single-handedly extended the life of the Helix with your ToneMatch stuff! The 3.5 cab engine is great and all, but nothing touches the new TM2 patches. The new Benson Chimera update? INCREDIBLE! Improved my already favorite preset.
Had the Helix LT for almost half a decade but made the switch to the Quad Cortext last year. It is a great product but definitely needed an upgrade for me to keep it.
I've had an hxfx for a couple years, I really enjoy that they still update it. I recently got a catalyst and updated it to the cx firmware. I'm not a pro, just a hobbyist. But I enjoy that some of my dsp is opened up, and I have more sound to play with.
Still looking to get one of these in the future even if there’s a used one for a lower price on Reverb. Just have to wait for God to continue to provide me with more financial blessings.🙏
Here's my take coming from a guy - I am a working musician - that had a rack with the ART SGX products and used the eleven Rack as well - both great products - and I still own my old 11R. But - if you use these machines for the presets only - you will never get what you want out of them and will re-up when something gets released with more cool sounding presets. I never used the factory presets - in my opinion those are there to show you what the unit can do - demo packs so to speak. Set these up like a physical guitar rig - input side stuff - amp/speaker/mics - then the output sounds. It simply sounds better this way in my opinion. The sounds that the Helix is able to produce are awesome - amps and cabs are very workable - and tonal variety is there - more than I need. Just because a new shiny bobble comes out - you don't have to be the one who must run after it every time. I didn't purchase a Helix right away - I wanted to see if it was going to be stable over time - and if the support would continue to push the boundaries of the sounds offered with each update. So far I believe that Line 6 - even though they are owned by Yamaha now - are still doing a good job in keeping the Helix relevant.
People seem to love it for effects, complex routing, and a great editor. For these things, the Helix is still a good choice, unless space is an issue. What might make a great combo is the Helix or even the LT with a Kemper Player or Tonex in an audio loop. That saves DSP to where you might opt to use the Helix with the spillover between presets, as DSP wouldn't be needed for amps and cabs.
Today, when I Many guitar buddies only have a few pedals and FX units I never heard of, FX units that are ultra sub par, I have my Full Helix and my Variax standard and Shuriken Variax, loaded with Strat chop tone packs, etc. I'm still king of the Hill in my world
I’ve never really been big on spending money for pedals because I’d rather spend it on a guitar. I may be a little late but I just bought a helix and I absolutely love it and I would never go back to anything else
First, just want to say thank you for your videos. You guys are a blessing to many! Do you guys have a video that explains options for running your helix into the church PA? I’m currently using an amp but about to pull the trigger on the helix to run stereo or possibly even wet dry wet. I’ve been saving for a while and just want to understand options so I can talk to our sound people. How do you guys run it when you play live? Do you need 2 or 3 channels in the PA if you eliminate the amp entirely? What are some options (ranked on difficulty to dial in) so the wet signal isn’t over powering?
I’m still using a podhd 500x sounds just as good for most sounds. Cost me $400 for 2 so I always have a backup. The pod x3 live is an amazing vocal processor which beats thousand dollar units available now.
It sounds great and is very well thought out. My biggest complaint after using one for almost 10 years is that it could use a more powerful CPU so it would be harder to be limited from adding blocks. It would also be nice if there was an easy way to normalize the levels of patches.
With helix and the Marshall super you guys did, I don't need anything else for worship anymore. However, I do wish they would add some copies of pedals I like for my own music, mainly the ibanez wh10, and the boss ds-2.
Helix still sounds so good, that even if there was a "Helix 2", it wouldn't make your Helix 1 sound worse? If they keep updating Helix, what's wrong with it? It's DSP, it's programmed modelling, it doesn't become obsolete. The only thing that could happen is eventually models take up so much DSP that the user is limited in choice. This only limits you, doesn't make it sound bad.
The IR development coming out for the Helix is insane. I joined Helix clan in spring of 2023 and have been in love since- creating my own versatile presets and purchasing others. The IRs you can purchase push the sonic limits of the Helix and truly give you tones that 99% of people could not differentiate from the “real rig”.. e.g. a gentleman named Jon Kaneshiro on this platform just put out a “where the light is” helix preset with IRs a month ago and it sounds , to the common ear, exactly like a John Mayer 50,000$+ set up. The Helix has allowed low to middle class guitar players sound like high end high income players and it’s truly an equalizer for us non studio, non professional musicians that’s want those tones so desperately and can’t afford them. Thank you to you guys too for your amazing tones. I always love whipping out the Hillsong patch every now and then when I need the sanctuary to sound like an aquarium !
I think people forget that its not just the tones that people look at. I bought the HX Stomp XL because it is the perfect form factor for me. Not too big and has the right amount of editable footswitches. It is the perfect price. I personally do not believe the newer modellers bring anything new that is an absolute must have and a reason to move on from Helix.
HELIX is nice! Guitar processors can make a big difference in sound depending on the CAB IR you use. actually there are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!
The couldn't get over the learning curve woth the Helix, so I sold it for the Fender TMP, much easier learning curve for a newb in the guitar world... That being said, Helix is still an awesome sounding unit. I don't understand why people hate on one unit to another, all of them have strengths and weaknesses. The fact that we have so many different types of modelers should be an indication that there's the right flavor for everyone. If the Helix is the one for you, right on brother! But if someone else likes the headrush, keeper, TMP better, don't put them down man, we're all here to enjoy music in a while we like to share it and play. All these units are great. No hate to any of them!!!
Maybe there’s a massive update coming?👀what I would love to see is them add the “flux” or a ramping function and the possibility of separating the “press” and the “hold” functions on footswitches so one footswitch can control multiple things but separately. Ever since y’all’s interview with them, I have really messed around with using their own amp models in front of the tone matched/XR IRs and let me tell you, they sound fantastic. Their amps sound so good in comparison to some of the original models.
I'm a long-time user of the Helix Floor and HX Stomp XL. I'll buy the next version of the Helix Floor when it comes out. Line 6 has to keep the next version within the Helix universe. There are too many customers with years of time invested in the presets. They need to add DSP and fix the preset leveling problem. Needs to have some built in system to balance volume across presets. Also its hard to understand whey they have so many terrible stock presets when there are so many good customized ones on the market.
I remember from watching videos from Sean Haley - when the HD500x was out they were already working on Helix. In was in development for 5 years. So you can bet when they released Helix - they almost immediately started working on their strategic vision for what's next. They've been doing that now for 10 years. What's different than the old platforms is they have now build an entire ecosystem around Helix - so changing that means changing everything. That's probably why it's been this long. Whatever they do changes not just this Helix but everything based around it. Line 6 has always led the pack - whatever they do will be cool beyond all imaginable. If nothing else it will inspire changes to everything else.
It seems like a few influencer channels have had recent similar discussions with Line 6 people. I wonder if this indicates that our current hardware will be getting still more significant software overhauls in the nearish future. That would be kind of mind blowing imo. Like if we got fusion feature and maybe some more modulation possibilities in our HX stomps, my mind would be blown at how much I've gotten out of the initial investment in this hardware. I mean, I already feel that way and I honestly was thinking it's probably time for a v2 iteration of this hardware. I've owned all of the big names in modelling (except cortex) at this point and the helix is the most immediately good sounding imo.
I love my HX stomp - also loved my POD HD 500 - I cranked my Spider Valve HD (the tube amp) the other day and it sounded awesome. I think I will just stick with what I got lol.
Absolutely but! First, you should always invent unless you plan to be trampled over. And let's face it, as time advances, more and more absent features are becoming a handicap compared to the norm that evolved, like the wirelessly connecting with app, more DSP, touch screen, improving form factors and weight, tone matching, and obviously some major cutting-edge things that are essential in order to stay competitive.
Once good tone, always good tone. My prediction for the “Next Gen” Helix is that the main new feature will be capture technology. It’ll cost a few $$ more than the current Helix Floor, but I believe the current Gen stuff will remain as is and continue to receive meaningful updates.
I don’t have the budget for the Helix. Is the PodGo still a decent option for worship? I’ve been using the Bean and I find its interface clunky and a lot of the sounds difficult to adjust. (I can’t seem to get a smooth but strong clean worship guitar. All the distortion sounds are just “screamo death”, which works for some songs but not all.) Should I spend my money on the Go? Do y’all make patches for the Go? What I’m asking is “is the PodGo still relevant in 2024?”
Would you guys have any idea on how to make a patch that makes your helix a click tracks midi controller like the looptimus pedal but in my helix? I can't seem to figure out how to do it and I've looked everywhere for a patch someone sells but can't find it.
people have been saying for years now "What if I buy it, and then they release the new Helix?" The reality is, even if that does happen, then you'll still have an awesome sounding, reliable piece of gear that you can use for years to come. Heck, I just picked up a PODGO last week (isn't here yet though b/c they are backordered) b/c it was on sale, and I just couldn't pass it up.
Yeah, i think for gears it's more like the mixers too, look at X32/M32 or any other digital mixers they're still relevant even after decades+ that they've been released
My question for you is, I bought mine the day they came out. If I buy a new one is there anything that will make it better than my old one? Also which IR do you use on your Starplayer TV?
I've been toying with buying a Helix but for less than half the price, I have 2 used HD500Xs. I keep one at church and one at home to upgrade/add patches then I switch them out as needed. But those scribble strips would be handy...
helix LT is still my recommendation to any guitarist starting out, wanting to up their gear and sound on a limited budget. nothing beats it in terms of value, processing power, and fx quality. I still want an FM9 though 😆
I hope when a version 2 comes, that it will seamlessly incorporate all your past presets and setlists.
this is the 3rd video I’ve seen this week talking exactly about this topic. I’m guessing there’s a new Line6 product by next week 🔮🤞

Personally, it's a great piece of gear. I would buy it over and over again. Although, I also have the HX Effects for smaller gigs.
🤣
I wish the Helix Floor was a bit lighter though… but then I remember the big ‘ol pedalboard and amps and say “nah, I’m good, it was worse then”.
Of course it is and of course you should!
… ha nope
@@worshiptutorials Yup I bought one last week
Here i am at the end of 2024.....seriously considering getting one. BUT...what if a new one comes out in 2025 >
IMHO the selling point of the helix was the functionality; yes it has great amp and effects modeling, but I think the fact that it can integrate similarly to how a G System could is what sold me on it. Even without amp modeling, and maybe even drives, the fact is that you can still loop other effects in and control them with both preset and individual functions, and along with having it do things like switch amp channels, still makes it’s really competitive IMHO.
What wild is that I have been thinking this exact thing the last 2 weeks.
Thanks Seth! We love the thing. And glad you are loving the patches!
Had the Helix LT for almost half a decade but made the switch to the Quad Cortext last year. It is a great product but definitely needed an upgrade for me to keep it.
Which do you prefer?
I joined the Helix party super late. Like last Summer late. I think i'll have this device for 10 years before changing to something else tbh.
I agree it sounds great. My only ask is a unit with full Helix functionality at half the size. HX Effects sized basically.
I saw Matteo Mancuso in concert this week with Drift Lab. He exclusively used a Helix. It was a totally silent stage apart from the drums.
Now I want to ask you another question, which "IR" amplifiers are more useful or sound better for worship music? Thank you!!!!
It's still relevant but they almost surely must have a successor in the works
I'm still king of the Hill in my world
I'd just got my HX Stomp last month and I've been loving and enjoying it.😃
I’ve never really been big on spending money for pedals because I’d rather spend it on a guitar.
How about the HX STomp XL is it still relevant? Not only the Helix?
Absolutely
Gents, you are great! Interesting conversation theme.
What could be the best choice of FRFR speaker for Helix ?
Thanks!
Have a good day!
With helix and the Marshall super you guys did, I don't need anything else for worship anymore.
However, I do wish they would add some copies of pedals I like for my own music, mainly the ibanez wh10, and the boss ds-2.
The Helix platform has had a core architecture and modeling update in 2023, it’s not just the new amp models.
What’s the patch being used in the first play sample? It sounds amazing
What church do you guys go to? Somewhere in anaheim?
Ive an old podhd500 and i still enjoy it very much in my jazz chorus 120’🤙 yamaha product are great! The line 6 branch rocks!
Cool as always, but I really miss the acoustic content guys. I thought you were bringing it back?
Why move on when this already does everything I’ll ever need it to? And have it setup the way I want it?
All the distortion sounds are just “screamo death”, which works for some songs but not all.)
Should I spend my money on the Go? Do y’all make patches for the Go? What I’m asking is “is the PodGo still relevant in 2024?”
Yes, yes and yes!
My like was #666. Not sure how to feel about that on this channel.
Excellent video, guys!
Would you guys have any idea on how to make a patch that makes your helix a click tracks midi controller like the looptimus pedal but in my helix? I can't seem to figure out how to do it and I've looked everywhere for a patch someone sells but can't find it.
Have not messed with that but believe it’s possible to some extent. Maybe join the Helix Worship Team Users on FB and ask there!
people have been saying for years now "What if I buy it, and then they release the new Helix?"
The reality is, even if that does happen, then you'll still have an awesome sounding, reliable piece of gear that you can use for years to come.
Heck, I just picked up a PODGO last week (isn't here yet though b/c they are backordered) b/c it was on sale, and I just couldn't pass it up.
Exactly
Yeah, i think for gears it's more like the mixers too, look at X32/M32 or any other digital mixers they're still relevant even after decades+ that they've been released
My question for you is, I bought mine the day they came out. If I buy a new one is there anything that will make it better than my old one? Also which IR do you use on your Starplayer TV?
I've been toying with buying a Helix but for less than half the price, I have 2 used HD500Xs. I keep one at church and one at home to upgrade/add patches then I switch them out as needed. But those scribble strips would be handy...
HD is great but HX is another dimension.
As someone who has used both, the Helix is on a completely different playing field.
Is there anything for headrush?
The Poly Capo is an AWESOME tool
helix LT is still my recommendation to any guitarist starting out, wanting to up their gear and sound on a limited budget. nothing beats it in terms of value, processing power, and fx quality.
I still want an FM9 though 😆
