    John Frusciante has one of the most recognizable tones in modern guitar-playing, whether playing with the Chili Peppers or doing his own work. In this #PotentPairings video, we show you how to get some of Frusciante’s signature tones, looking at songs like “Wet Sand,” “Scar Tissue,” and “Can’t Stop” from the Peppers as well as sounds from Ataxia's repertoire, like "The Sides," and his own solo work, with songs like "Look On."

    John Fruciante is one of the greatest guitar player....he playing is embued with emotions and context.
    If all of humanity existance needs to be justified, we can do with the the last 28 sec of Scar Tissue...the solo is how a man transcended mortal realm and reached the metaphysical. It is sublime...never heard a more in context solo

      Most people think the guitar you use is sooo important. I'll tell you, the sound is at least 95% made of your amp and the pickups your put on your guitar. Buy a 200 euros Harley Benton, put some P90 pickups on it... and spend the rest of your budget on a nice tube amp and some pedals depending on your style. In term of sound quality you won't feel the difference. And it will sound much better than a 800 euros Fender on a shitty amp.

      @YUNGMOOD! John did use a DS1 in the californication era, but obviously mode 1 on a ds-2 is the tinnier ds-1 sound if it's wanted. so the DS-1 isn't very versatile for the bulk of John's music of course 😂

    John never uses a DS-1, he used it with his White Falcon and Fender Showman for the breakdown/bridge of Otherside live (but not in the studio). Around the World didn’t even have a dirt pedal and wah on it, he bi-amped a Silver Jubilee and a Super Bass cranked with a Fender Jaguar and just changed the switches on the guitar for the chorus.

    You can get a Vox V847 wah pedal That 'll do the trick because Ibanez wah pedals are hard to get not on reverb but people have put in the comments saying That it didn't work yea because to you have to Do a bit of tweeking with it and that rubber stuff

    Is the micro amp just like a volume pedal?

    • @BrettKnows
      @BrettKnows 2 года назад

      Nope! You play your guitar at normal volume then if you really wanna add some grit or emphasis to your playing, you kick this on. (:

    I had a friend that could get Frusciante's tone with a Squier with a SD JB in the bridge into a Crybaby running into a Boss Ds-2 into Marshall solid state amp. It was spot on I shit you not.

    My strat pickup selector was also wired in reverse when i got it. It was confusing me so much i had to rewire it. 😂

    Look on sounds bigger in the record. Around the world was awful! The rest was pretty spot on. Should've made the strip my mind solo! Huge tone! I think it's close to the wet sand one tho. It's based on the big muff as well.

    great video, although I disagree with certain things. boss ce5 would fit better imo, and in can't stop, for instance, the tone is waaaay too bright even using the neck pickup. John cranks the bass knob up on his amps and the high is always pretty low. With this, you can get that crisp and warm sound with the bridge pickup. Around the world is a bit off too. I also missed the distortion of DS2 + big fuzz john uses in some solos eg slane castle, but great video nonetheless

  • @leandroperroni
    @leandroperroni 7 лет назад

    Dude: big muff, mxr micro amp and ibanez wh-10 are ok, but you definitely need a boss ds-2, mxr phase 90, and also a boss ce-1

    Slapback on "television" should be set to a 16th note coordinated to the song's bpm. It was too quick in the vid.

      Not quite. This is a riff that he sometimes played live after the intro until the rest of the band kicks in . He'd then go back to the typical 0-3-5-3-5-3-5-0-3-5-3-5 riff afterwards. (and finish off just completely improvising)

    It also depends on the compression of your amp if you don't have a Marshall MG you can still get that John sound well not 100% I have the ds2 and it sounds spot on the Taiwan version
