    Personally I thought that I just grew up and couldn’t appreciate games and since I joined the military I haven’t had time to sit down and indulge into a game like I used to. But I’ve realized that big companies have just been producing the exact same product with a focus on add ons like weapon skins or operators than the actual game. But I find myself appreciating indie games more because they have a wide variety and not every game is the same with them.

    • @NindieGames

      Completely agree! I'm a big fan of some simple Indie Action-Platformers because I can just jump right into it. Huge open world games and competitive multiplayer can be very overwhelming if you don't have the time to actually play them.

    There were a couple of successful indie metroidvanias other than the ones you mentioned, shadow complex and the dishwasher series come to mind, but i think that hollow knight made the genre more mainstream than it has been in a long time, leading to indie metroidvanias getting more success, as well as games like Metroid dread releasing to commercial success.

    Personally, I really enjoy playing Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends, despite the fact it is about a decade old by now. I still find it to be super fun. It’s upsetting seeing big time companies ruin big childhood favorites, but the indie games are definitely something I’m going to look into.

    Well, thanks RUclips, for recommending me a decent video by someone with less than a thousand subscribers. This was pretty good!
    I will say that the typical "AAA studios have abandoned their original visions in place of profit and quantity" (12:10) argument is something that has been said a lot. I would like to hear "why" these studios do what they do. To look into the big business of AAA video games. The reason why AAA studios can't just be crazy and original like true indies is that the risk is so much higher. Look into flops, where larger studios tried something new, and failed terribly. It'll help explain why, instead of just arguing that they sold out or something.
    And it's not always about quantity over quality - it's also about working on projects that are so huge and complicated, that bad ideas get worked on for years, for multiple millions of dollars, and end being bad. Not being able to fail quickly hurts, too.
    I honestly think that more AAA studios should look into the early access approach like Larian Studios and Supergiant Games. If you're gonna be developing a game for ages anyway, may as well make it a part of the experience. Imagine if Cyberpunk 2077 was an early access game? I dunno how it ended getting, because I played it the first week and totally, 100% bounced off it in less than 2 hours - it felt so shoddy and poorly made. But if it had a year of early access... maybe it would've released with record-setting Metacritic ratings?
    One video that struck a chord with me weeks ago was this one by Modern MBA: ruclips.net/video/B71mbSBgZ3E/видео.html
    Anyway, that's me.

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  Год назад

      Glad you enjoyed it!
      I completely agree on the "why" as AAA studios can take a much bigger hit on a failed product, but at the same time, Indie Studios can't afford even a single failure. I think my main argument for that though wasn't that every game they produce NEEDS to be some crazy innovative title, but just a solid game fully finished at launch. That's why I used the RDR2 example. I think that was a safe game, but it still performed very well at launch (I think) and was overall an enjoyable title.
      Absolutely agree on the Early Access part. I think studios just have deadlines, and the last thing they want is to release a messy Early Access and then lose out on potential buyers even if they get a better game out of it. I still can't believe Halo Infinite was released without some of its most popular features, that's something Bungie I don't think would have ever done if they were in control.

    Hey man, nice job! I love it when RUclips recommends me smaller channels with some great viewpoints.
    I agree. The AAA space has grown stagnant in the past 10 years or so. Nothing is innovative or fun anymore. It's quite literally all about making the biggest profit possible. There's no such thing as a AAA publisher doing weird shit, it's all huge releases and no experimentation. They're all chalking it up to tech improvements (such as hardware accelerated ray-tracing, DLSS/FSR for better performance, instant loading times) instead of actually trying to do different with their franchises.
    Nintendo, as much as I fucking hate them, is the one AAA dev/publisher doing weird stuff nowadays. TOTK is a masterpiece, but it's also not flaunting any hyper realistic, 1000000 polygons per frame graphics, it's just very polished (fundamentally, let's not talk about the exploits) and fun to play.
    You earned a sub and a like. I hope to hear more from you soon :)
    PS: What do you think about Japanese games in general? I noticed that aside from Nintendo you didn't mention anything from Capcom, Sega, Konami, Square, Atlus, etc

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  Год назад

      Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! it's something I've been wanting to make for a while.
      I'll be honest I've only really played the most popular titles from Capcom, Sega, and Konami. I wouldn't be able to speak much on anything other than Castlevania and Megaman which are both franchises I love. But in relation to this video, I don't think they would have added much.
      Also, I don't think we've seen an actual new Megaman game since 2018 or a Castlevania game since 2014. It's a shame too as I think Castlevania Lords of Shadow is one of the most underrated games of all time.

    Guess what there's always going to be bad products and just like u said u can still play games that you like and also fun is subjective. So u want maps Pack back u want all of the predatory bs that happens doing the 360 era. Just because there's a few bad apples on the tree doesn't mean that all of those apples are bad

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  7 месяцев назад

      Respectfully, I did not mention map packs coming back. The point I’m articulating is that COD specifically, has lost its identity from what it used to be, and the battle pass structure plays a role in that. I still enjoy plenty of AAA games, just not call of duty anymore unfortunately

  • @kukukachu
    @kukukachu Год назад

    So the devs of Ender Lilies and Dave the Diver are actually not indie developers. They are veterans in the game world, however, they take the indie spin and honestly, it works. I wouldn't be more surprised to see other seasoned game developers go their own way and take some talented developers with them. I believe we'll see a lot more of that. Since people trust indies now, they'll use that to their advantage.
    Wait! Did you just say that Other M was good? That's what it seems like you were insinuating

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  Год назад

      I agree, I think it would be great for developers to leave larger studios if they're being prevented from doing what they actually want to do.
      Lol I was not insinuating that, my point was that prior to Dread, there had not been a mainline Metroid game since 2010 (not including the remake)

    • @kukukachu
      @kukukachu Год назад

      @@NindieGames I mean devs talk to one another. I'm sure there is talk right now in a lot of AAA companies right now, especially with what's been going down as of late.
      Lol, oki, good. I've personally not been a fan of Metroid since Other M. They messed up big and the last decent game from them was Prime 3. I don't know what people see in dread or Samus 2 remake, but they are both terrible, but I suppose that's just my opinion.

    You’re comparing the top 1% of indie games to all AAA games, there’s 10,000 games released per year on steam alone and most are indie, and most are awful. You also didn’t mention AA game devs, who have also been making a lot of good games.

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  10 месяцев назад +2

      I believe FromSoftware is actually AA, I just grouped them together because their budgets are still significantly higher than indie devs.
      AAA games also produce awful games, and I used the most mainstream titles as comparison, while even giving credit to the ones that have been good/successful.
      In the last year I've still played a significant amount of better Indie games than AAA. The point of this video was on innovation, which is something that I do think has been lacking within AAA titles minus Nintendo.

    • @NindieGames
      @NindieGames  11 месяцев назад +1

      I found the combat to be innovative for the genre. I can’t think of a metroidvania that plays quite like it, and there has been a surplus amount of titles that have tried to create something similar following its release. Because of the games praise and success we’ve seen more and more indie metroidvanias coming out and now in the mainstream as well, so I also think it just had an impact on the industry as a whole. Not saying I’m right, but I do feel it’s make a pretty large impact
