The fact they’ve removed its hard luggage capabilities stops it being the ultimate do everything motorcycle!
Just buy the top of the range S1000XR🤷🏻‍♂️Plenty quick enough, does everything you want from a bike and probably more.

Feel exactly the same. I wonder what the reasoning was. Was looking forward to replace my SXR with a MXR, but no propper luggage is a nono for me. I love taking my XR to the track, but i also love traveling multiple thousands of kilometers - with luggage of course.

if you put the s1000xr subframe on the M you can now have a topcase. its worth the 30+hp gain...

I have an S1000XR and took an M1000XR competition version out on a BMW trial day at Vines and it felt smaller, lighter and of course, faster. Although the S1000XR in dynamic pro mode is also quick but all the safety nets are off so a bit scary on our country roads with the odd bit of gravel of tractor mud lurking around the next corner. If the M1000XR was cheaper and had hard luggage I’d be very tempted but at 28k, I’d be worried to leave it anywhere.. I have an idea, BMW need to add hard luggage that has a sensor in the luggage clips brackets that sets the power map at 150bhp when luggage is attached. That way you’d have the best of both worlds. Just a thought

    • @jonasbaine3538

Same for me the Multi Strava PP disappointed me too, I was almost ready to order one. Then came the M1000XR, I ordered last November and got the bike early April… it’s addicting and as you say one can feel exactly what that front wheel is doing, corners are so easy now. And the power is crazy, more than I can use anyway. Cheers.

Great review, an amazing bike! I always struggle with all-rounders though - the lack of hard luggage and no top box is a big disadvantage for touring vs S1000XR, Multistrada V4/Pikes Peak or even GS1300. Equally, as fantastic as this bike is, surely any track rider would choose a S1000RR/M1000RR or M1000R. I agree too that £27k is a lot of bike to risk on track. It’s great though that BMW has made this halo bike!

You basically summed up the Pikes Peak to how I felt about it once I owned one; built it up massively in my mind but once in my possession, came away massively underwhelmed, was like a fast GS. My M1000R Competition I absolutely love to pieces but again not massively comfortable for distance, bought a 1300GS to cover this aspect but still an acquired, almost industrial feeling to whole experience like the PP. Both of these are being collected on Tuesday and being replaced with the XR Competition which I hope is going to give me what I love about the single R but with distance comfort when required. Just my thoughts aside but another riveting review as usual!

Quite happy with the white one, other than that, agree with pretty much everything. Shame about the luggage but I can live with that. Sure they could easily have had a switch fitted so if hard luggage was fitted the top speed was restricted. Kreiga soft luggage will do. I've got the low M seat and it's even more locked in than the standard height. Great bike though, I grin like an idiot every time I ride it!!

Enjoyed the video, really nice looking bike, however as you mentioned its quite a jump in price for the M version. I do like the BMW motorcycles, looking at getting the S1000RR, any thoughts on the 2023/2024 model? What would your recommended additions be to be added to the stock model? Value your opinion.

Coming down from the 170bhp BMW K1200s to the ‘only 125bhp’ R1200RS I seriously considered buying a 1000XR but I’m lazy and decided keeping the shaft drive was more important in the real world than huge power ( it’s not as if the RS is a slow bike 😂😂😂) so I wonder how long it will be before BMW make a new model and a shaft drive XR ?? I think that bike would be very welcome in todays market

Sounds like a great track bike. If you want panniers and the wife on the back for touring the Mx comes up short. My pikes peak weighs 224 kg with exhaust ,lithium battery, and some carbon fibre. Sure would like to have an MX in the stable though………..cheers!

I’m not sure about this bike, but I know BMW has been putting Brembo’s on their new bikes by putting the Brembo logo on backside of the calipers. I remember wanting to see the Pikes Peak vs M1000XR when it finally came out. This bike took so long that Ducati surprised us with the V4 RS and now I’m really waiting to see that head to head

txs for the review. For me the XR is the bike with the highest smiles per mile ratio. The lack of hard luggage sadly makes the M-version not fit for my purpose. I got a very late 2019 XR , bought the last showroom example (full option TE, triple black) in feb 2020 for ±15k pounds and now almost have 100k kms on the clock. It was my first bike and I just can't let it go. And i can not justify spending 27k on a bike that has little more to offer on public roads.

@@King_Harrold at the start I had starting problems twice, when the bike refused to make a start after being parked for an hour after a long ride. Problem was a vapour lock in the fuel system, resolve by exchanging the fuelpump under warranty. Ever since it rides flawless. I use it to commute so that is year round all weather use. In winter-wet te chain needs some attention, also because our roads are spayed with salt against frost. It is a great bike to lane filter, as it is extremely agile yet with a high stance so excellent view. Also the quickshifter is massive.

Inside my Pikes Peak to the BMW dealer to see both the new XRs and the GS. I was surprised that the S 1000XR was much heavier to tip off the side stand than my PP. Plus the S1000XR looked unremarkable and rather homogenized. But it is priced relatively cheap ($21,xxx) compared to my PP which was $30,000 list when I bought it. They had a M1000XR on a service stand I could look at through a window (cmon-I can’t go in and take a peek with adult supervision?). That’s got the look but no luggage kills it. Plus it seems the suspension is really stiff fur your duty. So I was happy to just grab a tank bag and ride the PP away. I will add you nearly must get these modern bikes derestricted by after market as that really brought the PP motor to more with much better punch and response. I’ll wait further the Superduke GT, which I came off of to grab the PP.
