How exciting! I’m all about the renovations and house updates so weekly updates would be great!! It all sounds amazing - we renovated an old house 3 years ago and the only thing I regret about our kitchen is having our fridge freezer at the opposite end to the kettle/cooker/hob etc. It’s not a million miles away but I would definitely move it so it’s as close to the main Working area of the kitchen if I could. The thing I LOVE most about our kitchen is the tap! One of those changeable/spray ones which is sooo useful! I wish you luck with it all, very exciting times! Lisa Patton x

Yes would love to see updates on progress, we had our kitchen & part of our garage made into a utility last year, be prepared for it to take longer than they have told you as little things always come up during the renovation, good luck it’s hard during it but so worth it when it’s done !

Ooh this is exciting Katie. We complete on our new build today which is exactly what your layout will be. Works so much better- we are a family of 5 too moving from a period property. So very different. I'm glad you are keeping your utility as we thought in our last house we wouldn't need one it didn't have one and it was part of the reason we wanted to move. My kids are older than yours and my husband is a cyclist so loads of washing now. You wouldn't believe the difference being able to shut the washing out makes to your headspace than having to see it all the time. Very excited to see the progress. It will look stunning as always. I had my new kitchen and bathroom put in at beginning of the year (both at the same time felt like DIY SOS were in my house lol) , and omg the chaos, I was stressed the whole time, the mess, the noise,but at the end of it, it was all worth it. I now have a lovely kitchen and bathroom. Looking forward to the updates and the end result reveal. 🤗
I can imagine it’s so stressful, although I’m going to try not to moan as I know how lucky we are to be in a position to get to do it. Although I’m a bit of an introvert and I like routine so I have no idea how I’m going to cope with the chaos of loads of builders and mess x

Your plans for it sound amazing and I can’t wait to watch the weekly updates! I’m also very excited to see how you decorate and furnish it. You have such a beautiful home 🏡 it’s really lovely and very inspiring to see it going through all these changes and to see all the hard work you put it! Thank you for sharing it with us.
It would also be really interesting to know how you deal with living around the work in progress as it can be quite disruptive to routines and everyday life. Also if you hit any snags or problems along the way because I know that not everything always goes to plan and this kind of thing can be really stressful. Good luck with it all!

We recently changed what was our oversized playroom into a kitchen/diner/family room and I love that all the family can be in there and it is really the heart of out home. Our utility room is the size of a garage which is fab in winter because I can get four airers up and they don’t get in the way but in summer it feels such a waste of space x

That’s so exciting. I think a mud room would be great. We did use an architect but to be honest we kind of wish we hadn’t as he wasn’t much help and then our builders did plans anyway etc x

Ah thank you so much Deb, we had it all planned out before we went to the people we bought the kitchen from, but then he drew up some rough designs as well, and suggested things we hadn't thought of- for example having an induction hob etc :)

Good luck with your extension. It’s very stressful all the dust and mess. But worth it in the end. The snug is a great idea as it adds more living space. Great when your kids are teenagers as they can have friends around and not taking over your living room. Plus if the girls have friends round they can be in the conservatory and Wren can have his mates around in the den playing Xbox or PlayStation as your future proofing your house for when you have 3 teenagers. When they make too much noise you and Jon can always escape to your garden office. Xx

Good luck, you don’t need it though as I know it’ll be gorgeous space when completed. You have a lovely interiors style. Are you having an area in your house to use as a temp kitchen or are you going to move out during the really tricky weeks?
No we aren’t going to move out. We thought about it but we can’t really budget a hotel into our costs, we don’t want to disrupt the kids and as close as I am too my family, we aren’t in a position to stay there. So we are crossing our fingers that it isn’t going to be too stressful. And we will have some sort of temporary kitchen for a while

Thank you! It’s so exciting we can’t wait although it’s a bit daunting too. We are putting the sink on the back wall where we are pushing back into the garage a bit. We originally thought about the island but on speaking to people were told that it would be better to put the hob on the island as at least you could keep the island clean. Otherwise dirty plates and stuff might mount up on it and because it’s in the centre of the room your eye would draw towards it x

It’s quite big for a 4 bed family home on an estate I think. It’s got high ceilings and one big reason we bought the house is that the bedrooms are all pretty big. I think it’s about 2400 sq foot but I’m not entirely sure x

This is going to be a really strange question, but have you had any problems with your soil pipe being within your interior walls rather than on an exterior wall ? I know someone who had the same, and a rat got into their house “don’t want to freak you out” as that pipe connects to the drains.
Please please please, keep us up to date on the renovation! I have suggested stealing some of our garage to extend the kitchen to allow for an island and my husband wasn’t convinced, so you, my lovely “friend” are gonna be my secret weapon 😂😂😂
Hahaha hopefully! If it goes well that is 😆😆. It does seem madness but I just think we’ll never fully love the kitchen if we don’t take space from the garage. All I want is an island so we can sit in there and enjoy it x
what is a "snug" ? The result should be interesting. One thing I insisted on in my new build home is an island. I love my island, its huge, and suits my large kitchen.

That’s so exciting! And yes hopefully just before Christmas. We are living in the house. They did suggest it would be easier to move out but we couldn’t afford within our budget to stay in a hotel that long, we don’t have family who’d want us for that long 😂 and we thought it might really disrupt the kids. I just hope it won’t be too bad, I’ve sort of set myself up for the worst, it’s going to be really interesting not having a kitchen or washing machine etc x

Thank you! It’s so exciting we can’t wait although it’s a bit daunting too. We are putting the sink on the back wall where we are pushing back into the garage a bit. We originally thought about the island but on speaking to people were told that it would be better to put the hob on the island as at least you could keep the island clean. Otherwise dirty plates and stuff might mount up on it and because it’s in the centre of the room your eye would draw towards it x

Yes we had an architect come round and draw up plans, but he wasn't particularly great to be honest. x

It’s quite big for a 4 bed family home on an estate I think. It’s got high ceilings and one big reason we bought the house is that the bedrooms are all pretty big. I think it’s about 2400 sq foot but I’m not entirely sure x

This is going to be a really strange question, but have you had any problems with your soil pipe being within your interior walls rather than on an exterior wall ? I know someone who had the same, and a rat got into their house “don’t want to freak you out” as that pipe connects to the drains.

Please please please, keep us up to date on the renovation! I have suggested stealing some of our garage to extend the kitchen to allow for an island and my husband wasn’t convinced, so you, my lovely “friend” are gonna be my secret weapon 😂😂😂
Hahaha hopefully! If it goes well that is 😆😆. It does seem madness but I just think we’ll never fully love the kitchen if we don’t take space from the garage. All I want is an island so we can sit in there and enjoy it x

what is a "snug" ? The result should be interesting. One thing I insisted on in my new build home is an island. I love my island, its huge, and suits my large kitchen.

That’s so exciting! And yes hopefully just before Christmas. We are living in the house. They did suggest it would be easier to move out but we couldn’t afford within our budget to stay in a hotel that long, we don’t have family who’d want us for that long 😂 and we thought it might really disrupt the kids. I just hope it won’t be too bad, I’ve sort of set myself up for the worst, it’s going to be really interesting not having a kitchen or washing machine etc x
