  • Welcome to MarLin Village, a new tiny house village in Colorado. It sits by the Pine River within walking distance of Bayfield, a historic mountain town close to Durango. Cofounders Mark & Linda owned this land for many years, but when they discovered tiny homes, they knew just what to do with it. It features 15 lots, great amenities, and a warm, welcoming vibe. Enjoy a tiny home community tour & a tour of a park model tiny home rental!

What a beautiful place for a tiny home community. It's nice to hear that the city was willing and open to the idea and you were able to make it happen. I'm also glad you mentioned the cost excluding land to build the community. Many people don't realize how much it costs to get the permits, engineering, put in the infrastructure, the roads, landscaping. Thanks for sharing your beautiful community with us.

I looked into buying a small plot of property outside of town and living off-grid in a tiny house. In order to do so, I found that I would have to lay in a septic field and have a well drilled for water. That would have cost about $200K up front, including the permit fees. So much for that idea... 😮

    • @raysun2be

@@daviduribe3111 i hear you, I was thinking the same thing, but the infrastructure costs of a septic tank and other items put it way out of my budget.

Have yet to watch the entire video, but wanted to comment on the great idea of using the rusty metal for fencing. No loss of trees for a wood fence + little maintenance. The silhouette cutout of mountain top adds to the setting beautifully, esp. with the natural sky as its backdrop. It would be great feature to add to tall fences in the city. There could be cut-outs of sunflowers, tree tops, birds seating on the fence, etc. vs the usual boring restrictive solid look of tall level fencing which is the hallmark of many privacy fences in the city and burbs.

Thank you Beverly ❤! We have had the land for quite a while. We thought we would develop the land one day if we could. We pondered apartments and condos, but that seemed too brick-and-mortar and impersonal and just another rental, so we never took action on it. Then we became aware of these tiny homes and we knew right away this is what needed to be done with this land. It spoke to our hearts....it would actually help fulfill the need for affordable housing. People would be able to purchase their own homes where they have not been able to before because of the unreachable prices of homes nowadays. It would also help out the folks who still wanted their own home but wanted to be part of a community and have people around them supporting them. Each Tiny Home is adorable. They are different colors, sizes, and shapes which adds to the personality of the neighborhood. All the events we do with the residents we thoroughly enjoy, and I believe this creates a sense of community which I think our society lacks these days. We have a neighborhood full of WONDERFUL residents!!
      To New Journey’s ❤

no, people need to STOP paying soooo much money for a little speck of dirt. Paying off the loan for the tiny house and other bills on top of the sickly expensive lot rent everywhere, it needs to stop. People with a fixed income of $1300/month can't even rent anything anymore... a space under a bridge maybe? in a tent?
Realtors and government have made ownership impossible for us.

I am sorry it is pretty but I will take my home in Maine with my own land and not pay $600 a month rent. And I want lawn not gravel around my home. I also have a two car garage with my 3 bedroom two bath home. I is a double wide that I bought as a new build with land that I own. Tiny homes are nothing but a glorified trailer and if you have loft space you can’t stand up. Happy living too you all but not for me.

To each their own! 🙃 The lot rent, which includes most utilities, is more affordable than any other housing option in the area. Also, many folks find tiny house living quite comfortable but not everyone’s cup of tea, of course. Yup, they’re built on trailers but often built with very durable materials & high quality insulation. Land costs are much more affordable in most of Maine compared to Colorado. So affordability really is relative to where you live. 🙂

It is always a bit surprising to me that people who aren’t interested in this style of living and already have a home they love and meets their budget, watch these videos and post long, negative comments.
Let’s not knock someone else’s solution to the same problem you had when you bought your double wide. We all need affordable housing and we all have unique tastes and needs as well as different access to options.

I agree about the gravel. Its quite boring. I actually like tiny homes and they come in all designs and sizes. The tiny homes are actually built to higher standards in many case than your doublewide. A 3 bdrm house with two car garage is not attractive when you are old or ill and cant keep it up.

This is just an overpriced mobile home park $650 per month lot rent is insane. Go buy your own land. You'll own the land in five years. This isn't nice. IT's a scam.

It’s quite affordable compared to lot rent at RV parks in the area, apartment rents, house prices, and expensive available raw land. Unlike apartments, rent includes most utilities. Buying land isn’t cheap around there and not many tiny house friendly single lots. But if you’re down to live in rural areas in some states, like Arkansas, you could buy & develop land for a relatively affordable price 😅

A scam? It cost them $500,000 plus the cost of the land to develop this. That's a LOT of months at $650.

Not everyone is able to afford land. They also may not want to develop and maintain land. And maybe they don’t want to commit to staying in one place for a long time and like the mobility the tiny home lifestyle can give them.
This is a wonderful option for people that clearly have different goals and needs than you do William. You should try being a little more open minded.
