All great points. Diet and sleep should be a top priority when recovering from an injury. Focus on what you can do (safely), not what you can't.

Got extensor tendonitis from my running, but I will try to focus on the positives
One of which would be now I want to return back to competitive swimming, so maybe this is a sign that I should return back to the pool haha
Will just turn my running workouts into a swimming one, curious to see how much faster swimming can get me as a runner

Great advice! I feel like I’ll be returning to this vlog in the future. Definitely possible to carry fitness over during injury. It’s sickness that’s the killer!

Thanks Jack, indeed it can be although for most doesnt last as long as an injury :)

Hi Ben, only one reason why I am here 🤣 Unfortunately sidelined from running as well and wanted to ask if you had problems raising your HR on the elliptical/bike. My legs tend to burn even before any aerobic stimulus (125-130bpm, within Zone 2)

Thanks for this, I've been out injured for 9 days now after damaging my plantar fascia. Thankfully I'm able to cross train so the advice here was really useful and I plan to do some 4x 5min elliptical later 😅.
I've tried to take the positives from my injury, I now use the cross training in the gym, I've started swimming, I'll spend more time and focus on s&c, and that will make me a better runner post injury. It's feeling better and hopefully I can run again soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery yourself 🤞👌

Yes. Sometimes you can come back from injury even fitter than before with cross trainer etc!

Hi Ben - curious to know what was the cause of your stress fracture in the first place and what is the solution to prevent it from coming back?

For me it was too much intensity in my training in a very short period off time; 10k race, 2 half marathons and some very high intensity sessions all within a 6 week period. I didn't respect the time needed to recover and was too quick to resume hard training after racing. Lessons learnt :)

How confident are you on any of these working when you haven't been able to race (or really do any sessions) yet? also what are the conversions in cross training? (ie 1hr swim is not equal to a 1hr run). Final q - surely it's advisable for people to eat more than usual when injured, as you are supposed to be fuelling the recovery and muscle/bone growth?

Based on my return to running, I've felt pretty good upon return. Given myself the best chance of running PB's in early 2024 but i guess only time will tell. Ive found elliptical to be an almost direct translating in terms of time spend, for cycling and swimming I've found x1.5 is more relastic eg: 1h easy run=1h30 easy cycle. Ive been eating more yes to improve recovery but ensuring I'm still eating the right foods rather than bingeing. These are just my tips based on my experience, take with them what you will :)
