It’s incredible how the energy of the event carries you through
I was just saying this! There is nothing like that energy out there among your fellow go getters! ❤

Chicago always has incredible crowds supporting the runners.
Some fantastic, practical advice. Most videos are far too complicated and discourage us from even trying for that distance. It takes months to build up your distances. I’ve managed to run a number of half marathons now. Never thought it was possible and especially only since I’ve turned 50. My next goal is to aim for a full marathon. Don’t know how long it will take but I’ll get there.
Really? It doesn't seem like any concrete advice was provided here.
@@JFlynn1207 go away
@@ClubmanGT1971 OK, i will
It’s almost all mental, you may feel pain, but it’s temporary. I’m going to run my first ever marathon but 28 miles, I might just die.
This is brilliant, thanks. Got my first Marathon in April. I’m 45 and haven’t ventured beyond a half-marathon yet.
Good luck brother!
Ik heb me ook ingeschreven. Eerste keer Rotterdam. Succes!
Best of luck .I'm not a runner .thinking of doing one in May and not telling anyone till after
@@oekieetvvoor mij de eerste in Amsterdam. Succes!
How is training going?
Honestly motivation plays a huge factor and same with the energy of the event. I thought I was gonna walk a few times during mine ended up doing it in sub 4 hours
well done!!
You finished 👍
Participated in the Belgrade Marathon this past weekend. My first one ever and keep in mind I may not be the one to give out advice, but one conclusion i can take from it is STAY ON TOP OF YOUR NUTRITION. Coming from a backround of doing mainly half distance triathlons, and half marathons I didn’t think it would be a much of a problem. I WAS SO WRONG. It started off great, I came in at half mark point at around 1h20mins having only had about 2 gels (~55g of carbs) and things were going perfectly according to my pacing plan, then at around km 27/8 it hit me like a brick wall. It was hell from then on and i finished with a final time of 3h4mins and 31sec. Had I payed more attention to my nutrition i could have finished in under 2h50 for certain.Dont neglect or underestimate how many calories your body need to function properly whilst running 42km
Great advice thanks. Well done on your marathon 👏
That’s still a great time. Congratulations
Did a half on Thursday. Z2 training run, about 1hr 55mins. Announced afterwards that I would never want to do a marathon. Turns out that wasn't a very firmly held belief, because I think this video has convinced me!
It’s all about the consistent training.
did u do anything yet?
I definitely feel you on that one. Finished a half in 2 hr 5 mins dying thinking you have to be insane to to a full marathon and here I am going to sign up for the full hahaha!
Stop flexing 😡
@@fighterinmkiwiscience3517 I don't think a 1hr 55min half is anything to flex about!
Training for my first marathon coming in august.
Enjoying it so far, the hardest thing is managing the time so I still have a life
Done some Halfmarathons. Signed up for my first Marathon April 2024 in Hamburg (Germany) and this video will be my Go to vid on youtube, because it meantioned the exact things i worried before, Like Motivation and the time leading to the Event.
Thanks for that 😊
Thank you. My first marathon is in 12 weeks, the Sanlam Cape Town marathon. Ive run 4 half marathons this year already. I was considering doing a different marathon prior to the real one as training but your advice of not doing more than 32km saved me. Thanks. Looking forward to my first marathon.
Hey, how did it go? I'm preparing my comrades qualifier in Feb
Going to run the sanlam cape town marathon too this year too
I'm debating doing the Cape Town marathon as my first one this year!
My first marathon is in three weeks! 😊 The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money against MND! Starting our taper tomorrow at last as have been training since December, I hope we'll see some GTN fans in Leeds too.
How did it go?
@@mrbartuss1 thanks for asking! Leeds crowds were amazing, the marathon was hard but amazing, I finished and raised more than I'd hoped! Amazing experience for a cause bigger than me.
I can't thank you enough, my first marathon is in 8 weeks. I was making some of the mistakes you talked about. I'm so glad i found this video!
Applied to go in the ballot for 2024 London marathon...this video will help me so much, especially with training
You guys are fabulous, thank for the tips. Condensed and precise, as always.
I've got my first marathon in October, the Marine Corps Marathon! Just ran my first 13 mi trail race on Saturday, I'm looking forward to something a bit flatter!
Hi..I found someone here who’s running marine corp marathon I’m signup for that too in October in dc and I’m just running once a week long distance like half marathon and the rest just 5 or 6 mile one day strength training my self but it’s hard to go more long mile.any tips?
How did it go?
Going for the marathon in Rotterdam in April 2024! Never ran before, so lots to learn and prepare, but so far it has felt good and I feel like I've found a sport I genuinely enjoy ❤
Good luck on the time travel!
hope you got a ticket, it was sold out fast!
@@MafuHardy haha lol, only just now noticed 😂
@@Duuk_the_Dog yeah I signed up right as they went live
I appreciate this video, I’m running my first marathon in 14 weeks! I am motivated and scared at the same time, but I’m putting in the work. I’m currently at 18 miles a week.😊
I am not doing a marathon and admire people who do that type of race. I am competing in 3 Olympic distance Triathlons this year and wondering If I am gone absolute crazy. The take away from this video is when training not to do the race before its time in the training. I can only trust the process and have fun on the day. Cheers
Well timed video, aiming to do my first in October
Same here 😊
Same here! Just finished the Toronto half yesterday… running the Toronto waterfront full in October!
did you do the marine corps marathon?
Perth marathon for me. 5.43 but it was about completing not competing
@@angel0fdeath667 Congrats!!! I did my first marathon (Marine Corps Marathon). I had a similar time and feel the same way
You guys are fabulous, thank for the tips. Condensed and precise, as always.♥️♥️
There are take-outs even for me, despite the the fact that I am only planning a half in September. My intermediate scheduled goals is a 10k PB in July. In terms of volume, I find it reassuring. I am at 25-30 (sometimes 35) k per week. If 50 is enough for a full, increasing to 35-40 should be realistic enough and good for a half even though some web-sites consider this too little. As for the long run, it's my understanding that for a half marathon, unlike for a marathon, going the full distance during long runs is actually recommended, but I have a few months to settle that debate as my long runs are currently in the 10k range.
If you want to complete the half, then you do not necessarily need to run the full distance in training, if you want to go for a specific time, or you want to run it as part of a 70.3 triathlon, then even running over distance during training can be advisable.
IT’s September, did it happen yet and if so how did it go 😊

Personally I would have included some 'real life' video shots of people 'running' the latter stages of a marathon - ie walking! It is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about and, if we are honest, is what gets most of the "mid/back of the back" to the finish line.
I recently ran a half in 2hrs 15 mins. Do I first work on becoming faster and then attempt a marathon or just go for it ? There’s one in my city in September this year
Sounds like a great question for #gtncoachescorner 🙌
@PramodSreenivasan did you attempt that marathon? How did you do?
@@vancedd419 no, I’m prepping up for the one in April
Just finished my first marathon yesterday
Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2023
100% agree with everything said in the video especially the training requirements
Look at completing at least 30km twice a week for a month before your big race
And you should be working your fitness level towards being able to complete 30km twice a week
Booked my first marathon for May. Have only done a half before. Excited and nervous for the challenge.
What energy these guys have...good job
MY First Mara Thon was Horror
as I had unbearable lower back PAIN
took me a Year lower back training
POSTURE!!!!
2 nd Mara Thon was excellent
no Pain
FUN!
I like your incremental goals strategy as I used it from the start as a beginner all the way to doing regular 10K’s - but recently I’ve set a *4 year goal* to do a marathon as a total nobody who comes out of nowhere with ridiculous endurance
Great video, thanks so much for putting it together!
What energy these guys have..good job!
Running my first marathon this saturday! I’m very excited!
Amazing to see the energy and speed managemement just tremendous ❤
Thank you for brilliant and clear advise

Signed up for my first Marathon in March, was daunting until i saw this. Running currently 35-45k a week at the moment, and I was thinking jeez I need to up the mileage. Thanks GTN!
Thanks for the advice boss! ❤
Great help thanks
Very well done video!! Thanks 😊
My first marathon is 2 days later I'm excited ❤
I REALLY agree with entering right away. I ran my first ever 10 km almost 2 months ago, sunscreen then I’ve ran like a goggins jr, feeling ready for my first marathon that is 1 month to go. If it wasn’t for me signing up, I’d never be at the level that I am now
Thanks for your advice.
Very fantastic and practical advice 😊
Really tempted to do a marathon. I plan to do a few half marathons first before planing a full marathon. I’m inspired!
Awesome, do it! 🙌
You guys did a fabulous job❤️😍

4:33 🙌 key moment in this video along with 3:45 precious content, thank you. Congrats on the courage stating whats a "good" weekly mileage, knowing there are ifs and buts and caveats, because we all know there are ifs buts and caveats, but sometimes we need a straight answer just to set our bearings straight.
All videos today are very informative and impressive
Thank you for explaining it
I always enjoy your videos
Great energy, good work
For any fellow beginner runners, I recommend the Hoka Rincon 3. They are the daily trainers that are super light and cushioned and they cheaper compared to other shoes. 124.99 usd but most of the time they are on sale for 99.99 usd. Only problem I have with them is they’re prone to wear and tear after roughly 200-250 mileage.
Never taken the plunge and entered a marathon, something that was always on radar. Always struggled with tendonitis and achilles problems. Now have gout and osteoarthritis. Had new total new hip replacement in 2021. So no hope! lol
