I feel for you, Ben 😢 I had to stop running at mile 14.5 during the 2018 Chicago Marathon due to stress reaction. I cried like a baby. My husband who is a radiologist had a quick look at your scan. He thinks you would need at least 2 months or more of no running…sorry for your injury
It’s tough to accept the severity of an injury & I think Ben is being glass half full like he usually is, but I was thinking ‘2-4 weeks for a stress fracture?’ Doesn’t sound like nearly enough time.
If he is a radiologist then he should know better than making sweeping judgements having never examined or spoken with Ben. Given what Ben said and the MRI I would rule out an iliio tibial band problem- a common over use injury in runners and can cause thigh pain on walking and running .

Dear Ben, I love your channel you are a positive person which is 7/8th of the battle. I got in contact with you when you first posted the strange feeling in your leg and told you about my son who has been recovering from his own stress reaction in his femur. I feel for you but it is the nature of the beast to a certain degree, running is a high impact sport and these things happen from time to time. I send you my best wishes for a speedy recovery but don't rush it as it will prolong the recovery period way longer as my son found out. Great decision to go to Kenya and enjoy being with your partner for the first 10 days and then concentrate on your rehab surrounded by world class athletes that would have been through the same or similar injuries. Hopefully you and my son will cross paths as he will be in The same place in early December. Take care and keep smiling big fella. KIA KAHA! (which means "stay strong" in the Māori language.

So sorry about the injury, but sounds like you're doing exactly the right thing. Thank you for documenting this on social media - the ups and downs are really important and your approach to this is really inspiring - thank you!
Get well soon Ben, I really appreciate what you said about not everyone understanding how big a deal it can be to have to stop running. I worked up to running 30km per week earlier this year but overdid it a bit with hard sessions and got a minor tendon issue. It was very depressing to stop running to recover and I know it will take me a while to (safely) get back to 30km per week. All the best and it will be great to watch your recovery journey while I work on mine!
Having had 2 tibial stress fractures in 2 years my advice would be treat it as if it is the worst case and if it heals sooner it's a bonus. My first one I extended my recovery time because initially I was trying to run on it thinking it was only shin splints. I'd been injury free for 2 years until 4 days ago when I rolled my heel on an uneven pavement, although it should only be a couple of weeks off. Good luck!

Sorry to hear Ben wish you get back to running as soon as possible. I'm in a similar place...3 weeks ago I ran my fall Marathon in Vaporfly 3's. I had tried them on shorter distances up to 25K. Unfortunately they proved to have very little support for my feet over the 42K. Got a lot of pain on both my ankles and the diagnosis is peroneal tendonitis on both. I took 2 weeks off of running and tried an easy run last Tuesday... After 2K the same horrible pain returned... I'm now taking another 2 weeks off and see how it goes. I wonder if I can ever run again but have to stay positive.
I went through something similar earlier this year and am still taking it slowly. I love your candour about the struggles and the importance of speaking about it/through it with professionals and your loved ones. Love your positivity and Meg seems to be so supportive! Looking forward to the Kenya content! You got this, Ben!
I'm sad to see that you're injured Ben. Like you said acceptance is the hardest part when you face an injury as a runner. I had a stress reaction in the outer right side of my right foot during my marathon training cycle this year. I had to take a full week off from running, which was the first week in 2 years without running. It was hard to get through. But I took it as a blessing in disguise where my body is forcing me to take recovery more seriously. Ben, please sleep more during this recovery period you have, sleep is the best recovery tool. It will help you heal from this faster.
All the best for the recovery Ben, I dealt with the same thing last year (warning signs went off when I saw how you described on your Strava). You’ve done the right thing in backing off. It’s always a bit of a mental battle. Stay strong mate
Great video, as a runner who is returning from an over training syndrome and taken 3 months off it’s nice seeing you talk about how hard it is to not run. You’ll come back even stronger after the injury and an even better runner. Take some time and find the comfort in other hobbies. All the best Ben!

Hang in there man, I’ve been watching your videos for a while and they’ve certainly benefitted my running. I’m just getting over a groin injury after 5 weeks off. I felt like I was at the peak of my fitness until experiencing excruciatingly sharp pain 50 miles into a 100k. Such a bummer. I’m also a swimmer and it’s been such a saving grace
Hi Ben, sorry to hear about your injury. I sustained 2 stress fractures last August in my pelvis that were undiagnosed for 6 months, and after diagnosis/recovery (12 weeks minimal walking) it then took me 7 months (13 months total) to start running again, as my fractures were in a very awkward location and having 2 of them increased recovery time. Hoping your recovery isn't as long but I understand how hard it is to accept a long period without running! Hope you manage to keep a good head space and are able to take all the time and rest you need for a full recovery!
@@bekahgoodgame3458 general symptoms started as tightness in the groin and then became pain down the front of the hip; prolonged diagnosis probs because the pain is bearable to walk on, mine were in such an awkward/unlikely area that the physio misdiagnosed as a muscle tear. Long term I'm very paranoid and scared of any pain/niggles so am running more conservatively as I'm scared now of re-fracturing it, trying to be a bit more confident in knowing my own body but I would say I didn't really pick up on/pay attention to warning signs and getting the fractures was my fault from overloading!
Hey mate. I just started running again after 8 weeks with stress fractures in both tibia. It's tough mentally but you are doing the right thing with cross training.

Iv been trying to power through and think this video has helped me to have a reality check. Going to take a few weeks off and get a scan. Hope your recovery is swift mate

Sorry to hear Ben, hoping for a swift recovery and return to fitness! I’ve just returned from my first stress fracture in my foot after 3 months out, pretty tough time but I’m coming back fit & strong. I know you’ll be back out there soon.
Sorry to hear the news, Ben! I just got cleared from my own stress fracture a few days ago after 5 months. Don’t feel the need to push the return too soon, it’s not worth reinjuring it. Also focus on other types of fitness and training like you have been swimming and on the elliptical. Best wishes towards your recovery!
Sad to hear this but enjoy the holiday, and you have the right attitude , be nice if you can get some content of the locals lives and how running has impacted in the town (perhaps speak to some older residents )
i hope u get better ben, i myslef suffered a major injury to my hamstrings, but you just gotta keep going and keep training and inshallah ur injury will heal up, all love brother ❤
Tough news, look after yourself mate. I've been in your boat a couple of times - don't over do, your body needs to heal, eat well and be kind to yourself.
Hey Ben, Great mindset , focusing on what you can do. Seb Coe came back from a major injury to become world champion. Look at this as a way to reassess your training and imbalances ( as it is one sided) check your bone density and diet regime. Am sure you rotate your shoes anyway but be more mindful of not wearing ' super shoes ' all the time.. deep water running is worth doing to.. using a buoyancy belt. Am sure the Kenyans will offer great tips too. Take care and you will come back stronger 🎉🎉
had a calf muscle tear during a run about 6 weeks ago. Felt OK after just a week so tried a gentle run and it came back with a vengeance after only 3km. Given it another 4 weeks and will try again tomorrow. Moral: don't be too impatient! look forward to seeing you back in form before too long. Good luck!
Oh Ben, sorry to hear about your injury. I've had a really bad femur fracture many years ago - from a motorcycle accident, not running - that basically was meant to stop me ever even hiking/walking without a limb, but never the less I've managed to get into running and compete marathons. It is possible to come back from it, and you have the right approach. Err on the side of caution, and you'll soon be back. Looking forward to the documentary from Kenya!
Enjoy the holiday. My last major injury happened this year and I was in crutches. So I couldn't go swimming like you :D Glad you're still going to Kenya.
I feel for you, I had Achilles overuse injuries over the summer and couldn’t run properly for 8 weeks. It is difficult for us runners. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. My advice, when you think you are recovered, leave it another 2 weeks before attempting a come back. I found I pushed backed my recovery by starting to run too quickly.
Ben, super sorry to hear about your injury, that really sucks. But I'm happy to see you're still going to Kenya. You'll have a different experience, but I think it'll give you a great opportunity to take a different angle with regards to content. I'm looking forward to it! The biking/vlog/interview style is definitely going to be cool. A similar documentary style to Tinman Elite would be awesome :) Best of luck and enjoy your time in Kenya! Here's to a swift recovery!
Sorry to hear the bad news Ben. Being injured is horrible especially if you are an inpatient man as i am you start getting negative thoughts wondering if you will ever get fit again. Personally i would just stick to the swimming cross training probably won't make it any worse but it won't speed up the healing process. Im 70 years old and still running so keep your chin up and get fit soon and have a nice time in Kenya.
I to also am recovering from a stress fracture. Physical therapy for 2 months no running. Just back at slow jogging and lots of walking. Rest and get well
all the best Ben! take your time and heal up. Also, you're young. i was out of running for 8 months because of an adductor tendinopathy, back into it since may, i was not getting the right advice, and when i finally got some, i was not listening porperly, so yeah. on the positive i got into cross training and now my overall fitness and strength are far better than they were before the hiatus.
Speedy recovery Ben I feel for you, I just missed my first full Marathon due to injury, it's a bit of a nightmare. Been cross training quite a bit and it seems to be really helping. Keep smiling 👍
Sorry to hear that Ben. Hope the stress reaction heals quickly. I think your definitely doing the right thing by still going on your holiday, stay strong 💪. Looking forward to more Kenya content soon 👍
Sorry to hear that Ben i may have had a similar problem. Dull deep pain in upper thigh but no pain when flexing/pressing muscle. I have no MRI near my area but doctor said regardless what it is the only way to heal is to rest. I took 1 month completely off. the second month pain was very minor and i had 1/5 of normal training volume. Third month pain begin to disappear. I reached preinjury training volume at month 5 and later even PB ed in all distances.
Wishing you all the best Ben. I can see how much it’s affected you, which is entirely understandable. Hope you manage to be ok through rehab. Thinking of you
So sorry to hear of your injury. You have such a positive attitude I hope you're back running soon. As others have mentioned you could also try deep water running to keep working your running muscles. I believe there's been some Olympians who have come back after weeks off running and gotten some great results after pool running (I think Flo-Jo won gold after 6 weeks of pool running)
So sorry to hear about your injury. Must be quite devastating for you, especially considering running is a huge part of your life. As for what you mentioned about swimming, Ive heard from several sources that swimming can be \ is recommended as part of ones varied forms of exercise/ training ,much as Yoga, Pilates is beneficial for a serious or recreational runner. Maybe you should consider taking up swimming as part of your training regime from now on. As for your recovery, having you document your recovery would be a good idea, as much as the running itself. Esspecialy considering that injuries are unfortunately part of a runners life, young, old, recreational and professional. Looking forward to seeing you back on the saddle again ASAP.
Ben is swimming 🏊♀️ 👍
Wishing you a quick and successful recovery

Take it easy and focus on you Ben. Well done on healthy planning to come back stronger and being young really helps the healing process
Sorry to hear of your injury, Ben. Best of luck with your recovery--it's good that you're being cautious. Enjoy your trip to Kenya!
Sorry to hear your news. Focus on what you can do over the next few months rather than what you can't.
Thanks Lucas!
Wish you a fast recovery Ben! You’re a true inspiration and the mentality you have with this injury is great to see.
Hey Ben,
Great mindset , focusing on what you can do.
Would love to see the diet and your cross training 'schedule' if you will. Wishing you a great trip and smooth recovery Ben!
had a calf muscle tear during a run about 6 weeks ago. Felt OK after just a week so tried a gentle run and it came back with a vengeance after only 3km. Given it another 4 weeks and will try again tomorrow. Moral: don't be too impatient! look forward to seeing you back in form before too long. Good luck!
Heal fast. Looking forward to what you capture from Kenya. Glad Meg is going too! It would be cool to get more insight into the Kenyan runners.
Hope the recovery goes smoothly for you. You got this.
Best wishes for a quick recovery Ben
Oh Ben, sorry to hear about your injury. I've had a really bad femur fracture many years ago - from a motorcycle accident, not running - that basically was meant to stop me ever even hiking/walking without a limb, but never the less I've managed to get into running and compete marathons. It is possible to come back from it, and you have the right approach. Err on the side of caution, and you'll soon be back. Looking forward to the documentary from Kenya!
Good luck for your recovery, Ben. Have a great time in Kenya 🙂
Enjoy the holiday. My last major injury happened this year and I was in crutches. So I couldn't go swimming like you :D
Glad you're still going to Kenya.
Just take the time to recover well Ben.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Ben! Thanks for sharing the highs and lows! Keep strong 💪🏼
Wishing you a very speedy recovery Ben!
All the best Ben, wish you'll be recover soon.
Good luck with the rehab mate. I enjoy the videos.
Best of luck on your recovery Ben! We’re all with you ✊
Ben, super sorry to hear about your injury, that really sucks.
Ben is relatable. Stoked for the upcoming content as I have an injury, but gutted for you personally 👊
Damn, sorry to hear!! Hope you will recover well, I am sure you will bounce back stronger!
Feel for you Ben! thats definitely a bummer for the Kenya camp, anyway, take it easy and hopefully get a full recovery for the following weeks!
Wishing you speedy and full recovery!
