My favourite part of the knitting community is that at my knit group I can be sat next to someone my age or younger or lots older and we get on fabulously regardless of age, just discussing what we are making and what we are doing generally. I love it :)

The knitting community is brilliant for bringing a handful of strangers together and making them friends.
When you knit, there's always a conversation starter if you find socialising hard. If you have long term health issues and can't always socialize in person. The online knitting community is always there for you.

Started knitting about a year and half ago and have found the knitting community to be very welcoming and supportive. I see lots of encouragement and appreciation of everyones work and excitement when they find a fellow knitter out in public. I see myself doing the same when i notice a familiar pattern being worn or just notice someone working on a project. Very glad to have stumbled upon this community, where people can appreciate the time and effort that goes into hand made projects.

I gather with some women who are 60-68 years old every Sunday. We are advanced knitters always challenging each other our skills. More importantly we support each other in major events in our lives and are good friends! I was a transplant to where I live in 2017 and finding new knitting friends was hard. I am really grateful for this group!

I’ve been knitting for many years, but I got bit by the knitting bug in 2019 and discovering a knitting community on RUclips. Since it’s challenging to get to a local knit night, I really appreciate getting to hear other knitters talk about the yarn and their projects and just generally share the love of the craft whilst I knit. It’s a good outlet since no one in my really world is as excited about knitting as I am!

It never ceases to amaze me that no matter the country or culture, the knitting community is so engaging, supportive, and beautiful! I can’t wait to see the yarn shops in Edinburgh in July! Your video has convinced me to go to the “Woolly Good Gathering” festival next year!

Knitters are such great people. I recently found myself away from home and family and went into the local yarn shop to just feel good and find some new yarn. There was a group of ladies gathering for a knitting group and welcomed me with open arms to sit with them and knit. They are mostly all retired but that doesn’t matter. When you are a fellow knitter, age doesn’t mean anything. What matters is the shared connection and the kindness that is shared. ❤

The comminuty is by far the best aspect of being a knitter. Being at a festival and making friends whether you're at a workshop or standing in the toilet queue. Wherever you go having people ask what you're wearing or knitting. Always happy to share their knitting expertise or foibles. Knitters are just the best. ❤

For me, it's the local knitting community I love the most. I was asked by someone thirty years younger than I to be the experience they needed to start a local knit night. I met people so much younger, but because of our love of knitting, and crafting in general, we had a starting point to share experiences, and found in the process that there was much more we shared. Since then, the group has grown and changed, both in number and in age range, but still brings joy to us all.

I sought and plugged into the online community after my Scottish mother died in 2021 and I inherited her needles, yarn and wips. I needed to hear her accent (thank-you Rebecca). I think I also needed teachers ('cause isn't your mum your first and ultimate teacher?) and found an incredible community of people willing to teach me how to do fair isle and neat bind offs, etc. I've taken a lot from the community and plan over the next year to 'give' more - attending local yarn festivals and there's a monthly knit night that my LYS hosts.....I'm thankful for the international yarn and knitting community; it's been therapeutic for me over the last 3 years.

I have so so many things I love about the knitting community. I made a really good friend through the La Mercerie Sock Swap who I’ve been able to meet in person - if it weren’t for knitting we’d never have interacted and now we send each other cards, birthday gifts, and get together for the occasional video chat knit night. Yesterday was my birthday and I met someone at work (I work at an ecolodge and she was a guest), and she’s a knitter and we had the BEST chat about what podcasts we watch and what we are knitting on - it was the highlight of my birthday. I rarely get to interact with other knitters in person so finding people online who share the same love and passion for creating makes me feel so connected. I am so grateful to the content creators that go out of their way to bring us all together and give us a sense of community regardless of where we are in the world. I love being introduced to new yarns from all over the world as well - I went to Scotland last summer to see some family and I picked up some Kinross 4ply due to your recommendation and it made me so happy that I had the chance to try it out myself.

The knitting community, in any country, is like sharing a common, secret language. When I travel, wool shop and mill visits are always on the schedule; it doesn't matter whether I speak the language, the shared love of knitting and crafting is like an automatic entree - a magic handshake that immediately gets you to friendship level one! Wearing our hand knits is an invitation to start a conversation and to share our experiences and thoughts, and the confidence boost an "I love your sweater - did you knit that?" provides is amazing. There is a generosity of spirit that crafters seem to share, and an acknowledgement that we all have something to contribute to the community.

Community of knitters is so important to me. I have a wonderful LYS and they host several events during the year such as LYS day, WWKIP day and a big sale for Black Friday shopping (day after American thanksgiving day). We are more than just local, though! Our Tuesday night knitting Zoom has knitters from across the state. Tuesday was started during the PHE and we kept it going because it includes people from farther away as well as a few that can’t travel for personal or health reasons. Last fall a few of us travelled to Rhinebeck and had a great time. These ladies are more than my knitting buddies-they are my friends within the knitting community and we support one another through life’s ups and downs.

Community is really important. Online is great but in-person is even better. Last winter four or five lovely knitters in New Brunswick Canada planned a knitting getaway. We had a huge room what starts as 15-20 friends grew to 100+. We knit, we chatted, we ate good food and enjoyed each others company. There were a few vendors on the Saturday afternoon ( mostly people attending who also sold things etc). By Saturday evening we were so relaxed and it was a perfect weekend. Best of all it was accessible to everyone. We split the cost of the big room so it was a very low fee for the whole weekend plus food and accommodation if you chose to stay at the hotel. They certainly are my people and we all made new friends of every age and all different fibre crafts. I highly recommend doing social activities with other crafters/knitters!

His immediate response was “that would be fun!” He is a keeper, now isn’t he!! Maybe in a few years I’ll travel the 5,000+ miles to get there! 🤗

I really enjoyed seeing the festival - thanks Rebecca. The online knitting community has been an inspiration and an amazing support in helping to improve my knitting skills and realise mistakes are part of the journey. I’m lucky that a great new yarn shop has opened up locally and the knit nights there have been a lovely way to connect with knitters in person. 😊

I belong to a local knitting group which is a wonderful community of creatives. The sheep and yarn festivals give me permission to geek out on fiber, equipment and gadgets. And then there's the stranger who's knitting in the waiting room of a doctor's office- another extension of the community. You tube podcasts like yours expands the community. Thanks!!

I started knitting again 2 years ago, and I am loving it. Years ago, there wasn't a knitting community. Now, with social media and RUclips, it feels like I have friends around the world?

I met one of my knitting friends through Facebook marketplace... I bought some hand-dyed yarn she was selling, and we've been chatting back and forth ever since! I love sharing a common interest with people, whoever and wherever they are ☺

What a beautiful and cool building to have a yarn festival in! I went to my first yarn festival in Minnesota, USA, and met a delightful group of knitters and sat knitting and chatting with them for a few hours! I love the knitting community so much ❤

I’ve been knitting for 2 years and I love the online community as well as visiting my LYS- there’s a shared interest there already and it’s a great way to make friends online and ITL. Everyone I’ve met has been so kind and helpful! ❤

I live on Kent Island, the gateway to the Eastern Shore of Maryland USA. The festivals I attend are Rhinebeck and the maryland sheep and Wool festival, this year for the first time I attended yarncentric and I met so many great podcasters. A real thrill! RUclips is such a great community not only to learn techniques via tutorials, but to explore and learn about the communities of each podcaster. My husband is from Stonehaven Scotland, and he enjoys watching the Scottish podcasts and hearing the brogue and sometimes seeing the landscape of their communities. We’ve enjoyed your podcast from day one!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Well done Rebecca!❤

I don’t know a lot of knitters in person but I have a whole stunning sweater knit from yarn that was a gift from someone I’ve never met, and I had the joy of being able to send off a skein of discontinued yarn that I was never going to use to someone who was desperate to find more. Love the kindness of knitting strangers!

The online knitting community was what first helped me really find my knitting mojo! Since then I have made some fantastic friends and joined a local group of amazing crafty people! I have also really enjoyed the knitting podcasts on youtube, getting to hear what others are making, what yarn they are using has really helped inspire some of my own projects!

I love the way knitting builds community, in online spaces and real-life spaces through my local yarn store and knit night. I feel part of the community through social media too, reading other people's comments on RUclips here. I've knitted on my own for decades, and enjoy seeing the craft grow x

I have been to 2 knitting retreats and several knitting festivals, which I loved. I stayed in contact with a few people and even visited them. I also love the online community as it is much more accessible. Once a week I attend a knitting group, but they make very different items and choose different materials than i come across online and on my travels. I feel very lucky to have this community!

I don't have a local knitting community but I love the online community. I have also made a wonderful new friend in Canada through the scrappy Advent swap last year and am loving our knit and chat sessions! Wether it's watching a podcaster or comments on instagram or joining a class at a yarn shop - I am always SO inspired and delighted by all the creativity and enthusiasm.

I love the community aspect of knitting. I do not have a local knitting store close to me and I do not have friends or family that knit. I love how I will go to a retreat knowing no one and I am welcomed into the group like we have always known each other. The community of knitting brightens my day and encourages me.

I am extremely lucky to live near a shop called Nibbles, Needles and Hooks in Lower Pilsley, Derbyshire. It has been open for just over one year and is a wool shop and cafe. We sit and knit with drinks and cakes and there is a real community feel to it. I have made lots of knit and crochet friends that are now just friends it's a fabulous place.

I went to a sidewalk sale at a yarn shop today and everyone was helping each other choose yarn for patterns they'd like to knit and suggesting color combos. It's nice to make connections with random strangers based on a passion for knitting.
