One of the best things about Star Trek TOS was the character development and it seemed every actor was perfectly typecast for the role they played. Also, the comedic relief was superiour. As you all likely know, James Doohan very much enjoyed reading technical manuals on his own time, not for the show but just because he enjoyed it.
Prople ask me “What kinds of books do you read?” and I always have to explain my answer...Tech manuals, any tech manuals. Field manuals, weapons, physics...and especially with the Internet because now it’s super easy to look up words and concepts that I don’t know. Basically useless knowledge...but then, what would a Harlequin romance novel get me? Or any novel, for that matter? Even real-life accounts have limited value to me. All of the main characters / Actors on TOS were excellent. Each had their very distinct quirks and ways. Doohan / Scotty was great! I especially loved it when he was in command of the ship and when he was deep in his element repairing or jury rigging something to just give them the edge. He was ever loyal to Kirk and the Enterprise.
I remember reading, I think it was in the old book, "The Making of Star Trek", that Doohan suggested making the character a Scot. The reasoning was the number of Scotsmen who were great engineers in the Industrial Revolution and beyond. And Roddenberry liked it, so Scotty became Scotty.

He was always my favorite Star Trek character. The fact my name is Scotty might have something to do with it but I was born a year before the series began.
Scotty.............he was basically a blue collar mechanic at heart. And a dang good one. I remember his shore leave being cancelled, and he said "Good, now I'll be able to study my technical journals".
Fun Fact Scotty only has 3 fingers on his right hand. It's really rare to see his whole right hand without anything covering it in the show but you can see it pretty well at 3:16 when he's leaning on the control panel.
I love all of the TOS main characters. Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Sulu, etc., all great. The chemistry of these characters was never duplicated again, even in TNG.
They were far more believable as flesh and blood people than any other series honorable but flawed humans trying and mostly succeeding to live up to a higher ideal

Scotty, you wouldn’t DARE!
I love this compilation so much, as I always loved the "Scotty in command" episodes. Thank you for this.
Very underrated character in the Star Trek Canon. I DON'T think that he ever received ALL the praise he deserved. I think we're just beginning to appreciate his contributions to TOS as well as the movies.
"It's green."
Love how that line was revived in next generation by Data and Scotty
I always loved Scotty!!! His utter devotion to his ship and his great loyalty to Captain Kirk were terrific and of course his abilities as an engineering miracle worker were unparalleled!!!
Although there was friction between some of the cast the characters were rock solid in their loyalty to one another
Humour, tension and great plotlines. TOS had it all.
you nailed it
My favorite character.
We lost him 14 years ago today. R.I.P Scotty. Hope you’re boldly going where no one has gone before.
TOS is on me tv where I live at 11:00 every Saturday night. I watch it religiously.
I was always more comfortable when Mr. Scott was in command of the Enterprise somehow.
*At **3:00** into the video, the actor sitting at the forward control console is the same actor who played the crippled "Captain Christopher Pike" - (who was seated in the futuristic wheelchair) - who could only beep 'yes' or 'no' in response to questions. The uninjured Captain Pike was played by actor Jeffrey Hunter.* 🪐💫
Scotty was the best character on Star Trek. Dependable and always able to Jerry rig a bunch of spare parts to win the day.
Aye, sir! I like this video! But I don't know how much longer I can hold it together! She'll break apart! LoL. Rest in peace, James Doohan. One of the best actors in the star trek universe. God speed!
He was always my favorite Star Trek character. The fact my name is Scotty might have something to do with it but I was born a year before the series began.
I can relate! I have a few close friends (and fellow Star Trek fans) who call me “Scotty”, because of him. I have never minded one bit.
Apart from Kirk, my favorite person to be in charge of the Enterprise is Scotty.
Scotty.............he was basically a blue collar mechanic at heart. And a dang good one. I remember his shore leave being cancelled, and he said "Good, now I'll be able to study my technical journals".
Want more of Doohan's range? Check out The Animated Series (TAS). Just about every other voice is his. He also dubbed some on TOS.
These are awesome. I wish I could watch every episode.
I love it when Fox said, "I want you to obey my lawful orders." I'm thinking, "Then issue some, you idiot. An order to lower the screens is not a lawful order under the circumstances."
Montgomery Scott was always an underrated character. Always in the background, but always at the ready.
he won't lower the screens lol. i love scotty and bones
+A Tear Through Reality
They're called 'deflector screens'. 'shields' is a generic sci-fi term that everyone has.
At some point, TOS started calling them "shields" rather than screens.
"The haggis is in the fire for sure" haha, never heard or noticed that line before
Spoke to him once at a convention and also got his autograph. He was a gentleman. And a great Bridge Officer.
Scott has always been my favorite Character. Thanks.
James lost part of a hand while the D-Day landings were still unfolding. He was one of the Greatest Generation even before he was beloved for his portrayal of Montgomery Scott. And a darn fine man, from what I've heard and read from others who knew him in life outside of movies and TV.
R.I.P. James Doohan
I had the Great Honor & Pleasure to meet this man. He LOVED what he did,Loved the fans & is without a doubt sorely missed😔
Thanks for the nostalgic ride! Scotty was always my favorite Star Trek character. I belonged to his international fan club every year it still existed.
There's nothing a good engineering officer and malt whisky can't fix❤️
I love Mr. Scott and James Doohan had quite a life in WW2, certainly did his bit for Queen and country on top of his many other achievements! A great bloke indeed! Thank you fir this tribute to him 😊
As an operational engineer and other things. Scotty is the expertise we strive all our careers for. Everything is not all right, but, everything is going to be okay. God Bless.
Mr Scott set a high standards for all star fleet personnel......
Loved Scotty , RIP
"The haggis is in the fire for sure!" LOL
That was a great episode, Scotty crushed it💪🏻
Scotty: Diplomats.... the best diplomat I know is a fully activated phaser bank."
Bones: "Well Scotty, now you've done it."
Scotty: I...the haggis is in the fire for sure."
Freaking Scotty is the bomb when ever in command.
*Who also keeps green liquor in his quarters for very special occasions.
Beautifully done - captures his strength and dignity, humor, compassion, and most of all, loyalty - you gotta love Scotty...
I remember seeing "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" on it's very first night in theaters. That was the only time that I had ever been to a motion picture on it's opening day. At the end of the movie while the credits (and autographs) were rolling, Scotty (James Doohan) got the only standing ovation. I have always wondered if it was because this was a college town, and I was in the audience with other college students and Trekkies, or did that also happen all over the country, and/or world.
I always loved Scotty.
Happy Birthday Jimmy! RIP
Law of Leadership #1, Every captain needs a Scotty.
Scotty aurait fait un très bon capitaine, j’aime beaucoup ce personnage raleur , sympathique tres humain. Il y a pas beaucoup de vidéo sur lui , Merci pour avoir fait ce travail
As a Star Trek fanatic, Scotty is by far my favorite character. He is the one who actually saved the day most of the time. He is part of why I became an engineer. I'm a radio frequency engineer, so I have used "I can't change the laws of physics" many, many times professionally. I've collected a LOT of Scotty memorabilia. I FREAKED out when he showed up in Relics on TNG. Thanks so much for putting this together!!
The character of Scotty might have made a good ship Captain of his own. His concern was always for the ship and its crew.
True, but he always saw himself as an engineer first and foremost.
Good old Scotty how much I learned from you as a child propriety respect and skill and wisdom God bless you James doohan may you rest in peace in heaven more vet! I salute you sir
The diplomat and phasor bank line Is one of the greatest lines ever uttered in Star Trek TOS! RIP Mr. Doohan. You as well as the beautiful character of Scotty that you created are both missed.
I enjoyed every scene he was in. Very underused character
THAT WAS COOL! I remember seeing James Doohan in an old episode of the Outer Limits. It was titled "Expanding Human". Still have it to this day.😊
There is a long running, slightly tongue in cheek, argument between various Scottish cities claiming him.
I believe Aberdeen is currently winning.
Thanks for this! Jimmy was a treasure.
Perhaps the most loved character in TOS. These segments left me feeling warm and fuzzy.
