It is indeed Ivo Shandor he’s the one that mentioned from Egon Spengler while he Peter Ray and Winston are in jail in 1984 Ghostbusters film he’s the architect and leader of the gozer worshipers

@@Nyghtwynd I notice a plot hole. Shandor didn't take on a Earthly destructor form, only a Netherworld form. He either had to sacrifice Alyssa for her blood for his body or possess her body, but he was stopped and instead took his battle to the Netherworld to use his powers there. I can't remember if the coffin is in the game, but I bet if it was that someone on Shandor Island escaped with it through a portal to the Shandor Mines.

I still wished Afterlife a little more like this game and had Shandor as the villain rather than Gozer again, even though it was still nice to see Gozer once more. Ivo started everything and it should be fitting that'd he'd be the final villain.

Would been more fitting, he is after all a huge part of GB lore and the reason why Gozer appeared in earyh- when i noticed he was played by JK Simmons i thought he was gonna be more prominent... but no.

You kinda have to create workarounds, but I like the fact that Afterlife seemingly does not 100% contradict the video game.

So far, these are the only minor workarounds I can think of, for what I would need to add/edit to my head-canon:
1.) Have Ray explicitly state to Phoebe that the reason they did not believe Egon’s fears was because of how thoroughly they cleaned out the remains of Ivo Shandor’s cult in New York and even vanquished his ghost.
2.) Have Phoebe, Podcast, and their friends discover that Ivo Shandor faked his own burial in New York, in order to add another layer of secrecy. That would give an additional reason for the other Ghostbusters prematurely believing that the menace is dealt with, plus subtly reference how you can supposedly find Ivo Shandor’s skull as a cursed artifact in the game.
3.) Adjust the dates so that the absence of ghost sightings, for however many years, lines up with when the game takes place.

@@markcobuzzi826 in terms of dates it actually lines up since Paul rudd character states that it's been thirty years since the last ghost sighting and when Phoebe looks at the dates on the wall we can clearly see that the year is 2021 which is thirty years after the game takes place

The only thing that really bothered me is that you didn't really see shandor in his ghost form,only his destroyer form. As much as I loved this game it's a shame you don't see what shandor looks like (with the exception of the long white beard)

Seems like Ivo could have just won if he just removed the ground beneath the Ghostbusters and let them fall to their doom instead of leaving a little circle for them to fight him on.

Honestly, this version of the final battle was disappointing compared to the cartoony version. That one was more creative in both the simple design and the correct banter

It’s not implied in this version but in the wii version of the game, Econ reveals they can’t due to Shandor absorbing to much paranormal energy from the mandala already. So if they trapped him, his energy would overwhelm the trap and it would explode.
