this was done with absolute class. And the way Jason didn't make Egon speak, was pure brilliance which acknowledged the memory of Harold Ramis and respected the character he created, Egon Spangler. This is also how you make a grown man cry.
I feel like the character egon didnt know how to talk as a ghost because when a ghost talks it might not talk with its mouth it might be using it mind and spirit to talk and communicate
My dad introduced me to Ghostbusters as a kid. Got me the suit, proton pack, traps, all the accessories. Watching the original movies with him was always a happy moment. I had to go see this without him having lost him the year before. I have never cried during a movie, but this scene did it. He would have loved it.
I feel you friend. My dad introduced Ghostbusters to me when I was about 6. He took mom to see the original in 1984 when she was pregnant with me! We'd be quoting Ghostbusters all day. Sadly I lost my dad Halloween 2021 just a few weeks before my birthday and Ghostbusters Afterlife debuted in theaters (Birthday is November 17) Watching the ending scene with Egon embracing his daughter had me balling in the theater. 💔😭
He's still with you, he was there holding your hand and taking care of you while you sleep, he isn't gone, he is just waiting for you in the other side, make him proud, live a long and happy life
@@manusoftar YEAH SURE HE WAS HAHA you're very delusional. dead people arent hanging out on earth or anywhere. they are dead. they have no life hence thats why they are dead and there is nothing after.
I love the "are you, a god?" in this scene. In the first film it was a genuine question, here Gozer already knows the answer and is asking it sarcastically to mock them.
Ghostbusters 1984 Gozer ask ray Are you God?Then Ray said No. Now when Gozer blast with two hands at Edon Splender and Ray out of the building. Winston saves Peter life. Winston said to Ray when someone ask you is God says yes! And in the Ghostbusters Afterlife when Gozer blast with her two hands at Cali spengler and the her son. When Ray and Peter and Winston show up. And the Gozer ask ray Are you God? Then Ray said yes.
The immediate silence when Egon's hand appeared and held unto the device was DEAFENING, such a fantastic call in thr sound design and perfectly captures the sheer shock and awe, overall this movie was just a great time
It is such a rarely used thing nowadays it seems. The only movie I can recall that used it in the last 5 years was the Godzilla Minus One movie. It still has such a powerful impact when used as it was in both Ghostbusters and Godzilla.
@@oprimeI agree on both. Seeing scenes like in Ghostbusters & Godzilla brings the emotions to create such a powerful impact to the heart strings. It's a wonderful awe inspiring moments in cinema history, it's rare to see nowadays because Hollywood rather focus on spectacles then storytelling. Ghostbusters Afterlife & Godzilla Minus One are works of art true to its material. Warner Brothers & Disney can learn from that but they never will.
Something I noticed was during most of the scene when Gozer and Phoebe are locked in battle, the camera movement is chaotic, caught up in the energy output of both power sets, the dirt, wind, and so on. But when Egon’s hand appears to steady Phoebe’s neutrona wand, the camera steadies, as if his presence is the calming factor that swings the scene towards the GBs way. And then after the boys provide enough backup and distraction for another attack that’s successful, Egon slowly moves Phoebe alongside Peter, Ray, and Winston - official bringing her into the fold, and setting up the moment for Egon’s plan to finally work. And with not saying anything and nodding, he acknowledges that even though they had a falling out, he understood, forgave, and was just happy to see them once again, even under these circumstances. A fantastic way to bring Egon back in a way that is respectful, adds more background as well as character, and leaves a legacy that future Ghostbusters can build upon.
"I thought you might turn up." Now that is how you do comedy. Perfectly timed, yet also subtle without a need to overexplain the joke in order for the audience to get it. Now I need to see the whole thing.
Yeah I agree, I think that’s one of the problems with the 2016 movie. Is that they started a joke, but kept rambling on and on. But this was just perfect
In the original canon Peter and Egon were friends first. Egon helped Pete get his psychology degree because he could barely concentrate. Pete just knows Egon's quirks the best and this line shows it!
I remember watching this film and crying when Egon appeared... but when Venkman says "I thought you might turn up" I never laughed so hard... and then immediately back to tears. Such a great memory.
The entire theater exploded into a roar when this happened. Egon was always there as a ghost, helping his grand daughter and bringing this moment to fruition. It was a perfect way to send off the old crew and pass the blessing to the new kids. I can't wait for the next movie to see where they take the new team and how Winston does as the voice behind the team. Seriously of all the reboots of old IPs this was done right.
Ngl it feels like a really good reboot because it's not quite a reboot as we see them typically. Typically a reboot ends up hiring new actors to play the old characters (like we saw with the all women Ghost busters reboot that we won't talk about), and pretend like the old characters didn't exist. This is more of a faithful continuation of the OGs, since the new generation has to call on the old to help defeat their greatest enemy one final time before they're truly retired/put to rest in Egons case.
I like how the reactions of the ghostbusters when they notice Egon's ghost are in line with the characters: Winston, he couldn't believe his eyes, stunned. Peter, look at Egon with his usual nonchalance. Ray, smiles enthusiastically at his friend.
Yea, I felt Peter didn't put on the appropriate reaction. Its like Bill himself was not sure what he was supposed to be looking at, therefore didn't know how to express himself.
@@callmepsycho3132 Given it's set in a universe where ghosts are real and his job once was to see them on the daily, I think it is an apt response from his character.
@@axx012 Honestly I took Peter’s reaction as one of acceptance that he expected Egon to be there. It was sort of a, “What kept you?” expression. Truly in line with Venkman’s character.
I'd be curious to hear Bill Murray's thoughts. He and Harold had a huge falling out after doing Groundhog Day that hadn't been settled by the time Harold died.
Not ashamed to admit that I cried when I saw Egon show up like this. He was always my favourite Ghostbuster, much as I love all of them, and the way he was handled here was absolute genius and a perfect way to honour the memory of Harold Ramis and respect his character. He didn't even have to say a single word either... his love for his family and his love for his fellow Ghostbusters were clear to see just from the expressions.
I am right there with you. I was so glad I didn't come across any spoilers because when that spectral arm reached out and grabbed the wand to help steady it, I felt the tears welling up. I was in a packed theater and you just heard a loud, collective gasp. Then when the other streams hit Gozer, there was a cheer that could have rivaled Captain America wielding Thor's hammer. It really was an awesome experience
Let me tell you… I was in tears when all 4 of them were in frame!!! Some people will never know what it was like growing up with these guys!!! ♥️ RIP Harold/Egon
I could barely see the screen when Egon materialized..literally choking back tears that still spilled over. My entire chiildhood came back for one last wonderful farewell. Rest in peace, Harold. And thank you.
@@edmontonhermit1156 Harold Ramis wrote Caddyshack and National Lampoons. He would have hated merchandising his image in CGI and repeating tropes from the original to play on nostalgia for older audiences and try and introduce a new generation to Ghost Busters swag. It was a travesty.
Or as a kid raised in the early 2000s Ghostbusters theme was sang everyday for the week of Halloween. Not just fans but Real Men who understand the true impact these Ghostbusters had. On us all. Teared up and cried. A fitting end to a wonderful series. I would be fine with videogames though
It is always good when they bring back the legacy characters. I only wish Weaver had more of a role as she was in all the films including the 2016 one. I wonder if they will make a sequel or not. It would be fine to leave it as it is but if they do it make it I hope Weaver and the others get more involved. It is also good that they made a dedicated to Ramis.
2:41 "You got a lot of nerve. Coming back here. Crawling back to me. We could have been the most spectacular power couple you know"... Man you just got to love Peter. 37 years and he's still trolling Gozer 🤣
Respect for the characters, the franchise and the fans. Plain and simple. And a dignified and wonderful way to say goodbye to one of the most beloved characters.
I agree, respect the franchise, respect the characters, and respect the actors who made them come alive and become so important to the fans. That's the best way to make a movie.
Wow every single one of you said that so beautiful and perfect I never got to see the movie. I just watched the clip from the movie and scroll to see the reviews and everyone said some beautiful things. Now I'm going to watch every Ghost Busters movie but first I'm going to see After life now. Thank you guys and my the Lord bless you and your family.
The original was my mother's favorite movie, I lost her in 2009. She and I had watched it in the theaters 6 times, then on VHS, DVD and Blue Ray. Over the years we must have seen it 100+ times. When she passed, I never watched it again. I went to see Afterlife with my closest friend, he knew my mother and the backstory of this movie. I was openly crying for the last half hour. Now I own it on Digital and watch it all the time. Miss you mom, enjoy the movie.
Bro Heaven exists, God is real and Jesus is real. This life isn't living, you receive eternal life through Jesus. He lived to die so we may die to live. You mom is doing good with the Lord and you are going to see her again I promise you.
We didn’t get to see Han, Luke, and Leia save the day one last time. But we got to see Peter, Egon, Ray, and Winston save the day one last time. And that’s really cool too.
@@KingGhidorah777 I meant Han, Luke, and Leia not sharing the screen together again.. and they were all alive too, but Carrie Fisher passed away so they wasted their opportunity. They wasted episode 7 and 8
@@SupportTheLittleGuy i thought you meant, Egon, Ray etc didn't share the screen together again as Harold wasn't technically there, but yeah its was horribly wasted, fucking sequels were a dumpster fire from start to finish
At least they did make up in the end, instead of Murray having to live with regret of 'things having gone unsaid.' Which even the movie itself kinda referenced with Egon's falling out with Ray that was never fixed until Ray met Egon's ghost in this scene. You can really feel the emotions when he said: "I'm sorry."
thats the trouble with people ....they fall out with each other thinking each will live forever and theres time to make up ..then if someone passes its mega regret for life
Ghostbusters 1984 when gozer ask ray you are God? Then Ray said No.And the Gozer sat then god!.And in Ghostbusters afterlife 2021 Ray says yes this time.
Ghostbusters Harold Ramis rip Edon Splengler like the star wars return of the jedi Force ghost of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala Skywalker force ghost too.
It wasn't easy for Egon to show love. But he did right by appearing next to his granddaughter and helping her steady the beam and stopping her from being pushed back.
And what's so amazing is that even though this is a digital recreation of Harold Ramis, in this scene and when he says goodbye to his family, you can see the emotion in Egon's face and eyes. Its as strong and real as the emotions on the faces of the living actors interacting with him. You see the regret, the sadness and the love all play across his face when he looks at his daughter and it is a wonder.
I love language that he did show, however brief, to his family and friends, resonated. He did care for them all, even if it drove him to do all that he did this set this up, his reputation be damned to everyone. When they saw the bigger picture, they helped, understood, and ultimately forgave.
0:36 Oh man I felt a hit in my gut when these three returned back in this scene they came back for another ghost round up just goes to show legends live on forever
When the other three understood the reason why Egon abandoned his family and his friends because he knew Gozer the Gozerian would return. That's the reason why he went to a farm and placed all the traps in the dirt and the lever to be used on the porch. While one of the dogs was captured in the ghost trap to serve as bait for Gozer the Gozerian. But in the end all the ghost traps were used to capture Gozer and his entire army and ghost traps. After all the ghost traps have been filled up. Egon's Spirit can pass into the Afterlife and R.I.P. knowing his job is finished for good. (I had to fix a little bit of it so it sound good.)

I actually froze, my mouth slowly opened when i realised it was Egons ghost as the camera panned around, and before i knew it emotion got the better of me, tears fell on that day i tell you! I love this scene, the inclusion and rememberence of such an iconic character and the nonchalant responce Peter gave at the end sealing it as a fantastic scene, thank you to everyone behind the film for including him, it wouldn't be ghostbusters without him - I hope hes resting well in peace knowing they didn't do his character dirty, and showed just how much hes missed.
@Ian That's true, especially since this movie was probably dedicated in honor of Harold Ramis passing away. However, since Harold Ramis is CGI here, it's too bad the director didn't put a voice recording of him which he said on the first film something like "if the door swings both ways, we'll cross the streams."
The lack of overreaction to Egons ghost is what makes the scene so good. They are ghost busters. Of course egons going to show up and wink to the team.
Bill Murray is the best part of this movie. His comment about being a power couple. The way he looks at Egon, looks away, looks back in disbelief, and then looks away like “eh, I bust ghosts for a living, that ain’t unusual” and then says “I thought you might turn up” it’s just golden😂
What's really funny is, Murray dragged his feet for years on reappearing as Peter Venkman because he thought that and I quote "Nobody wants to see fat old men chasing ghosts". Well, the audiences proved otherwise!
@roxtechs we were actually supposed to get a ghostbusters 3 later but when they were planning it Harold Ramis died and Ivan reitman decided not to make it
3:42 is probably the loudest silence in movie history. That small snippet alone was enough for everyone who grew up with OG movies to know what was about to happen.
The way the music rises as Phoebe starts losing ground to Gozer and then just absolute silence as Egon joins the fray, the music coming back in a more uplifting tone as the tide turns. That was about as perfect as it gets.
This scene was done to absolute perfection. It took a grown man to tears when I saw it in theaters, and still has the same effect every time I watch this part of the movie. The respect and reverence for Harold/Egon can't be more obvious than right here.
Same. My eye's immediately welled up as soon as Harold/Egon came into frame. Your right. This scene was sheer perfection. Love the hell out of this movie, and look forward to what frozen empire brings to the table.
This is the awkward moment when you realize Ghostbusters Afterlife has treated the legacy of the Ghostbusters Franchise with FAR more dignity than Disney's *ahem* "Star Wars trilogy".
What I loved about this movie is that it just "looked" like the old movies but with a modern "touch". They really stuck to the original ones. And the story makes total sense, everything fit's together even the role of Egon. I was like: "YES!" when the OG's arrived! And the scene when Egon's ghost helped Phoebe with the proton pack it was like a reuniting with his old friends, his family and giving the duty of "ghostbusting" to the next generation.
This film is not only a tribute to Harold; but also a tribute to Ivan Reitman , who played Ghost Egon in this movie. It was a blessing that he contributed and got to see the fruits of his and Jason's labors. To live long enough to know that the Ghostbusters are in good hands.
Jason Reitman had his father Ivan Reitman play the character in the main battle scene; at the team's final attack against Gozer. Look it up. Whoever told you otherwise was pulling your leg.
@@Phantanos there's literally pictures of Bob in the iconic overalls. Ivan stood in for the close up shots of Venkman turning on his proton pack when Murray left the set.
@@fjorgyn7438 If he stood in for close up shots; it proves that he did perform in the very scenes I stated. It doesn't have to be all the time, yet he's still Ghost Egon in the scenes that were in the movie..
THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. You introduce your own new characters; and let them stand on their own merits; but honor the originals, without lessening the old to falsely aggrandize the new. It was great that the granddaughter had her moment; but wasn't strong enough to do it herself. Then her grandfather's ghost appears to help guide and support her, like he didn't do in life; but didn't take over. He had faith she could. Which is what all kids want from their elders, validation. Then the others helped out rather than be spectators or cheerleaders; and they did so of their own volition and inspiration, not because someone told them too. Lastly, his ghost said nothing. Sometimes it's better to say nothing because sometimes nonverbal ques say everything.
@@GaryTurbo I take it you are amused by my lengthy comment. Regardless, each Mad Max movie works as a stand alone story, despite following a main character; and depict a different scenario of civilization in a post-apocalyptic world. 1st: attempts to counter an increase in roaming gangs, during the fall 2nd: tribalism vs selfishness, as institutions have failed 3rd: attempts to rebuild and how we remember what was lost 4th: rise and fall of tyrants hoarding resources
This 110%. Tearing down the original and pilfering qualities from it's corpse for the new to stand on undeserved has been the killing blow for the reputation of many franchises over the years. Instead of building off of something great they try to remake and change it into something that it was never meant to be.
Good summary. I also liked the fact that her brother's just about to join in the fight but then realizes there's a more important thing to do (re-energizing the trap grid) and ensures it gets done. It doesn't bring the glory of fighting the Big Bad head-on, but it's possibly even more critical to the final victory.
I had just lost my parents a few months before seeing this, and seeing Ramis show up made me bawl. It’s amazing what you feel after losing a loved one.

I didn’t grow up with Ghostbusters but after watching the first 2 films and this scene came, I instantly got the chills! This is indeed a love letter to Harold and all Ghostbusters fans! RIP Harold Ramis!
You are aware Harold Ramis wasn't there right? So it wasn't a real reunion of the entire original cast. You get emotional over CGI and fictional equipment.
"Hey, flat top! Have you missed us?" I love that, and I love how the tiny marshmallow men get so excited when they see them! I didn't want to bother seeing this, but this scene may have just changed my mind!
You should! It was a fantastic movie that really did justice to the original Ghostbusters movies and cast. I went into it with low expectations but high hopes, and came out completely satisfied.
I remember watching this in cinema. Almost everyone including me who are over 20 just started cheering and at the end we all started tearing up. This was the perfect send off for the OG team and also let the newer generation to carry on the legacy
My favorite thing about this scene is how when Gozer asked if Ray was a god, Ray was paralyzed and then instantly scolded by Winston and Peter like how one would scold a dog in training 😂. Amazing callback
This is the scene I waited 25 years for. A fitting tribute, a glorious reunion, and 3 generations of *real* Ghostbusters completing the job started back in '84. Even the mini Stay Puft guys were excited to see it play out. Goodbye, Egon Spangler. We true Ghostbusters will never forget you. You made being "The Brain" cool.
This alone is what separates this film from *_The Force Awakens_* - it actually takes the original characters we've loved for years and brought them together and let them interact! Same goes for *_Spider-Man: No Way Home_* with the three Peters (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland).
What a disappointing crap the new trilogy was. Once in a lifetime literally to reunite the old cast and they mess it up and now Carrie Fisher died rip and Harrison would never come back again.
Here the old characters shine in their own light. They steal the scene but not the movie., you don't downgrade them to make the new characters better. You give the new and old characters moments to shine. You don't change the original characters because they had their character development. They're the same and they help to save the day. This movie, both Creed movies with Rocky know and respected the original characters. Not what star wars did
Man why you gotta make us grieve like this. Starwars is dead and Disney killed it. They can keep making sideshow projects like Obi-wan and the Mandalorian but those are all set before A New Hope or RoS. The main storyline died with Rey skywalker and there is nothing left to build on.
@@ahmedshaharyarejaz9886 no star wars died the minute they made Luke a burnt out old man that lost all hope. The star character, the embodiment of Hope turned into that.....even Star Wars Battlefront 2 Luke treated his character with more respect
Venkman's character should be an inspiration to us all. In the face of whatever adversity we face we should do so as flippantly as he does and just laugh at it. Stressing over a situation has never made it better. Laughter truly is the best medicine.
I try to do that all the time. In some other video- I can't remember which- I commented a story about a time I embarrassed my niece at a stoplight, because my Playlist played the theme song Ghostbusters, and I raised the volume, and sanged along. And someone replied on my comment that I should grow up and blah blah blah. I told them that I will act as I normally would, and if they didn't like it oh well. Not my problem.😅
What’s even better is that Ivan Reitman was actually the physical stand in for Egon in this scene Coming back to a franchise he was responsible for after Sony along with Amy Pascal and Paul Feig screwed him over.
I was so happy when Egon appeared, I was so sad, but happy. I love this send-off it was beautiful. This is how you do Ghostbusters movie right, it had adventure, action, and most of all heart. A lot of these newer movies forget that a crucial component is a great story and the heart of it all. Rest in Peace Harold Ramis, thank you for making my childhood the best, and thank you for the great memories I have watching you at the drive-in with my parents.
I loved this movie, didn’t see this scene coming, so it hits you in the feels, I thought it would just be a bill murray cameo and that’s it so seeing all four original ghostbusters was awesome, this is a proper sequel to the first two, let’s just forget the one before this ever happened
The producers had , I think a good concept, but blew it in the execution by not making it a continuation, or apparently in the same universe as the first two.
Plenty complained about "Are you a god", but honestly I think it was perfect. The look of hate and contempt on her face, it was like "Go ahead, say it. SAY IT!" More than having been defeated, the knowledge that the ones to deliver her first defeat were mere mortals must have stung very deep. That "no" has probably been ringing in her brain ever since, and to see the very person who so casually declared his mortality to her before crushing her standing before her once more so confidently, I can't really imagine her saying anything else.
I wouldn't say Gozer had a look of Hate, as much as it had a sense of Sadistic Amusement, it remembered these fools from earlier and knew they could not stop it forever.
@@garethmorgan8326 Probably a bit of both. There was definitely more than a hint of snarl as she said "god". Part is probably amusement and glee that she finally gets to crush the mortals that humiliated her so thoroughly, but also quite a bit of lingering rage that some *mere* *mortals* managed to thwart her like that.
@@vinnyc.1265Look through the comment section. I sadly never grew up when the first movies came out, however, I have watched the original and loved it Ghostbusters Afterlife is an example that every movie company needs to follow, it did everything right from averting our expectations to literally being a huge tribute to the Originals This does everything correct and honours Harold Ramis, it's a perfect modern sequel and encapsulates everything we all loved about the original Roll on Ghostbusters Firehouse
(4:30) is my favorite moment of all from this film. Just the looks they give to Egons ghost says a lot. I can only imagine what Bill, Dan and Ernie were thinking during this scene.
Such a wonderful scene, fabulous movie, just beyond that of any words can describe. Fans of the original Ghostbusters will cry when they see Egon, truly a powerful and emotional scene that makes one smile with joy to see the gang together. Honestly I don't think there are too many movies today that I would say are masterpieces. This however I felt truly is a masterpiece
When I first saw this and Venkman asked "Did you miss us?" A whole theatre full of people are said yes. Then we all collectively cried when when the "For Harold" popped up.
I Remembered How LOUD The Theater was When they Applauded the Return of Peter, Winston & Ray, But CHEERED Even LOUDER When we Saw the Return of Peter, Winston, Ray & Egon!!!
One last fight with Gozer the Gozerian before Egon passes into the afterlife & he thinks now that his job is fully finished. But he regrets it not asking for the help.
the touch I love that really makes that moment hit is how the music cuts out right as his ghostly hand comes out and takes hold of hers, going to total silence before slowly building then swelling as the other 3 join in
Ray: "I don't remember this job being so painful." Winston: "I do." Yeah, Winston was always the one with his feet on the ground. Ray and Egon were passionate paranormal researchers, and would have been too excited by what they were doing to notice the lumps. Winston was doing it for a paycheck so he would've been more aware of the negatives of the job. But all of them liked ghostbusting. Even for Winston the lumps were worth it
That was amazing, seeing Egon come back one last time before departing to the afterlife. It was like him saying "You ain't getting rid of me that easily"
I love this scene. All the call backs throughout the movie to the Original movie were great, but this scene where Egon appears to help steady his granddaughter with the proton pack...... There wasn't a dry eye in the house when we finally got to see Egon's spirit. Even though they didn't give the spirit any speaking lines (Maurice LaMarch who voice Egon in the cartoons would have been a perfect voice over choice) you could see the love, friendship, and forgiveness for everything in every movement of the spirit.
A lot of times, when they try to make the CGI character speak is when it all falls apart. It's so much better that they didn't ruin the moment by having Egon speak (and as much as I like LeMarche and his work, it would be VERY weird to hear the cartoon's voice coming out of a live action mouth)
My sister took me out to see it on my birthday when it came to theaters and it was worth the wait, and I cried at the ending when Egon is saying goodbye to his friends, his family, his grandkids, and especially his daughter, Rest in peace Harold Ramis, You will be missed, Goodbye and Thank you.
Ya wanna know what REALLY made this moment special. The build up. The whole movie, Egon's ghost is trying to help and guide the kids and show that he never truly forgot what was important. This was both respectful and earned.
What's respectful about a cynical studio cash grab that trades on nostalgia while phoning in a confused first draft screenplay that doesn't make any sense? In my opinion this is one of the absolute worst of the nostalgia sequels. The screenplay is absolutely terrible and is full of holes you could drive a truck through. This trend of churning out sequels while forgetting what made the originals great in the first place is one I desperately hope will soon be over.
@@timetochronicle There are diminishing returns with this stuff though. Afterlife was only profitable because it had a dramatically reduced budget. It actually made less on ticket sales than the 2016 reboot. It's just that the reboot was so expensive to produce that it was a a flop by comparison. Meanwhile, Star Wars is gradually tanking, Dial of Destiny is tracking badly and there are even rumors Disney will have to sell Lucasfilm outright to balance their books. Are those rumors true? Almost certainly not; but they're a reflection of the fact that Lucasfilm and Disney+ are obviously in trouble and this stuff is getting harder and harder to ignore. Nostalgia is a powerful tool, but it's not enough when the movies themselves are continually bad.
I just love BOB GUNTON for being the stand in for Egon, knowing full well he was going to be digitally removed. But having a person there to hold the stick and allow the cast to react makes it so much damn good.
Don’t understand how people didn’t like the egon recreation. Makes so much sense storywise, and it’s a beautiful tribute which I’m sure Harold ramis would of loved
When Egon's ghost took his granddaughters arm and helped her did anyone else get a dragonball vibe in the best way possible? I usually hate it when they resurrect a dead actor in a movie but this was done so well.
This was meant to be a tribute to Harold from the beginning. It was only fitting that Egon's ghost showed up to help his granddaughter save the day. It was a very respectful tribute to the man and his character.
ThunderChief666 you are so right. The 2016 all female reboot was awful which is the real reason nobody liked it. And yet Melissa McCarthy just complains about people disliking her movie because of sexism which is a bit rich coming from her because her movie was sexist towards men!

I love the "are you, a god?" in this scene. In the first film it was a genuine question, here Gozer already knows the answer and is asking it sarcastically to mock them.
Nice!
Come on Ray!
The hesitation by Ray, followed by the immediate "Ray!" From the others, like really?!
well, the correct response would have been "We eat gods for breakfast!"....ah well
The immediate silence when Egon's hand appeared and held unto the device was DEAFENING, such a fantastic call in thr sound design and perfectly captures the sheer shock and awe, overall this movie was just a great time
It is such a rarely used thing nowadays it seems.
Jason Reitman honored the fans and his dad with this masterpiece. And yes we were ALL crying.

damn right, THIS is a proper reboot DONE. RIGHT. Not that other stupid shitty reboot that was done.
Ngl it feels like a really good reboot because it's not quite a reboot as we see them typically. Typically a reboot ends up hiring new actors to play the old characters (like we saw with the all women Ghost busters reboot that we won't talk about), and pretend like the old characters didn't exist. At least they did make up in the end, instead of Murray having to live with regret of 'things having gone unsaid.'
Which even the movie itself kinda referenced with Egon's falling out with Ray that was never fixed until Ray met Egon's ghost in this scene.
You can really feel the emotions when he said: "I'm sorry."
thats the trouble with people ....they fall out with each other thinking each will live forever and theres time to make up ..then if someone passes its mega regret for life

It wasn't easy for Egon to show love.
But he did right by appearing next to his granddaughter and helping her steady the beam and stopping her from being pushed back.
kinda like how james and lily potter helped harry during voldy/harry beam lock

While one of the dogs was captured in the ghost trap to serve as bait for Gozer the Gozerian. But in the end all the ghost traps were used to capture Gozer and his entire army and ghost traps. Actually antman...
@Ian That's true, especially since this movie was probably dedicated in honor of Harold Ramis passing away. However, since Harold Ramis is CGI here, it's too bad the director didn't put a voice recording of him which he said on the first film something like "if the door swings both ways, we'll cross the streams."
I was waiting for original song... the first seconds crescendo.
Sometimes music or lack there of really sets the tone. It’s amazing.
Phoebe had her Gohan moment in this scene, and Egon was Goku.

1st: attempts to counter an increase in roaming gangs, during the fall
2nd: tribalism vs selfishness, as institutions have failed
3rd: attempts to rebuild and how we remember what was lost
4th: rise and fall of tyrants hoarding resources
I'm sure not unlike the process of the father and son directors when passing off the franchise
My favorite thing about this scene is how when Gozer asked if Ray was a god, Ray was paralyzed and then instantly scolded by Winston and Peter like how one would scold a dog in training 😂. Amazing callback
And Gozer asks it in a taunting way. Gozer knows the answer already, but wants to see if Ray will say yes this time.
Still remember on Wiston said to Ray: Next time say Yes!
I think he’s know that if see that ghost 😂😂😂😂

@@bryanb6194 let's not split hairs. I was talking about the 2016 abomination.
You know.....the imposters.
More importantly, *it respected them*
Here the old characters shine in their own light.
This is a sequel done right. Relatable characters, good writing/story direction, and just an overall blast.
Shows how easy it is to make a good money when you aren't trying to check off the diversity and woke checkmarks.
1:53 we all love the sound of the Proton pack charging up.
And this is how you honor someone who is unfortunately no longer there anymore . This give me really goosebumps
I guess all the others ways he’d been honored since his passing don’t count since Sony didn’t profit off it.
What’s even better is that Ivan Reitman was actually the physical stand in for Egon in this scene
Coming back to a franchise he was responsible for after Sony along with Amy Pascal and Paul Feig screwed him over.
Seeing Egon's ghost at the end made my heart warm up, I teared up a little, actually more than a little.
You mean that woke version before this one? That was a total disaster, I have forgiven chris hemsworth for his role in that travesty.
We can’t forget about the Ghostbusters game known as the third movie before Afterlife came out... shits great
what other one?
@@pauldwalker the Ghostbusters with only females
Who complained?

One last fight with Gozer the Gozerian before Egon passes into the afterlife & he thinks now that his job is fully finished. But he regrets it not asking for the help.
the touch I love that really makes that moment hit is how the music cuts out right as his ghostly hand comes out and takes hold of hers, going to total silence before slowly building then swelling as the other 3 join in
Yea, it was the guy from Home Alone.
You have no idea how hard I cried when Egon vanished and "For Harold" appeared on the screen.
Glad to see I'm not the only grown ass man who cried over this scene.
yeah you were
You're not the only grown-up to cry over this moment. I'm 4 years shy of 30 and this got me crying like a baby.
I was born in 84 and tears were running down my face when i Saw this in theater
I didn’t!!! Just had something in my eye….
Ray: "I don't remember this job being so painful."
Winston: "I do."
Yeah, Winston was always the one with his feet on the ground.
I love that shot at 4:30, the 4 OGs back together for one more bust,
GENIUS
My sister took me out to see it on my birthday when it came to theaters and it was worth the wait, and I cried at the ending when Egon is saying goodbye to his friends, his family, his grandkids, and especially his daughter,
Rest in peace Harold Ramis,
You will be missed,
Goodbye and Thank you.
Ya wanna know what REALLY made this moment special. The build up. The whole movie, Egon's ghost is trying to help and guide the kids and show that he never truly forgot what was important. This was both respectful and earned.
Cool old man/senior moments
Better than almost every media have the senior treat the junior like crap
What's respectful about a cynical studio cash grab that trades on nostalgia while phoning in a confused first draft screenplay that doesn't make any sense? In my opinion this is one of the absolute worst of the nostalgia sequels. The screenplay is absolutely terrible and is full of holes you could drive a truck through. This trend of churning out sequels while forgetting what made the originals great in the first place is one I desperately hope will soon be over.
@@Ben-pd2bx it will never be over. Not soon, not ever. Nostalgia remains a trait that media corporations will try to appeal to, one way or the other.
