    I think I remember reading somewhere that the original idea as to why Todd was still on top form and was able to beat Pirelli despite being in a penal colony for 15 years is because while there he was put to work as the prison barber, so he never lost his edge.

    People hate joker 2 because it was a musical and nothing else.
    This movie shows that it is really not only about "being a musical" but everything around it. Every detail. Actors. The music itself.
    In the musical category , this is a masterpiece.

    • @TheCursedCat1927
      @TheCursedCat1927 Месяц назад +7

      Yeah, I completely agree.
      Joker 2 was a musical literally just "because" - they didn't make any proper use of that genre, outside of just having the characters sing and dance (only those segments didn't actually add anything extra to the movie's narrative, even though that's exactly what distinguishes a Musical from a simple film).
      It was a shallow attempt of making a movie that "challenges the norms" - too bad, that the producers (and especially Todd Phillips) completely forgot to make the movie be enjoyable alongside it...

    • @RedRumOnE

Pirelli/David immediately recognises Todd's razors and knows Todd is Benjamin Barker, but since he used to look up to Barker, he decides to genuinely test himself against Todd to prove he's now better than his old idol in public. And even if he fails, he can still come back and strong-arm Todd after the contest - which he does until Todd kills him.

    Here's why I love this scene. It's like the Tortoise and The Hare played out as a shaving contest. Pirelli is obviously the hare since he's arrogant, egocentric, and so overconfident that he wastes time. Todd, on the other hand, is the tortoise because he takes the time to properly set up his work, and it pays off. Todd wins because he knows his craft requires a lot of careful attention, whereas Pirelli is more interested in fame. All in all, this is an amazing scene.

    I believe both have their field of speciality. Todd is the barber of common people : practical, down to earth guy who does his job quick and proper for the worker man. Pirelli is a show off, but fit better where such "panache" is more appropriate, aka in the house of the aristocracy and wealthy. That guy just don't belong in the streets.

    I prefer the Broadway play with George Hern and Angela Landsbury. The guy that played Pirelli in the play did a better job.

    The director analyzes everything, big and small, and the impact of the characters. But the question is: there is a balance of size or weight for the souls, and it is calculated which is heavier.❤
