Amazing video Kai loved it, you mentioned wanting an anime. Well there is a little bit of animation, this also explains a lot about the apex predators and the main villain of this game. This is a character trailer for a character in Apex legends and by far it’s my favorite one of these. Plus it’s very related to titanfall 2.

Three other cool things here most people miss:
-1: In the training pod, when Lastimosa lets you call down a Titan, if you're quick enough you can see its ID-code: FS-1041. The Titan chassis that replaces BT's original one in the last level also has the tag FS-1041 before you install BT. This hints Lastimosa was already calling in favours to get Cooper his own Titan for training, and makes it one last gift for Cooper from Lastimosa.
-2: In the cutscene where Cooper's captured and Slone takes the Ark out of BT, BT actively reaches for Blisk rather than randomly swiping. And Blisk pulls and awesome flip to dodge around it before running off.
-3: In the very first mission's end cutscene, when you exit the sympod, you see Lastimosa loading up the SERE-Kit, loading in stuff and putting the optic back, subtly foreshadowing you'll be taking it out.

An interesting detail is that after BT's first supposed "death," a great touch they added was how Cooper doesn't say a word throughout that entire section of the game, even while there are plenty of people in his ear trying to communicate to him. The video cuts out most of the gameplay, but Cooper is completely silent and refuses to respond to any instructions or questions given to him for 2-3 minutes while he silently mows down enemies. And as the person playing the game, you yourself would feel the same way he does: too filled with rage and sorrow to say anything, because both you and Cooper have built such a connection to BT that can only be fully experienced through the hours of gameplay this game provides outside of the few hours of cutscenes this video provides. That's what I love about this game, you don't play as Cooper, you ARE Cooper.

On the topic of Titanfall's helmets being large, they're actually much more reasonably sized than a lot of video game sci-fi helmets.
A lot of sci-fi games give their characters helmets that are meant to look in-proportion to their body, but that an actual person's head would never fit inside. Titanfall's helmets are scaled more realistically, which makes them look large at times. As someone who does a lot of Titanfall cosplay, it's very helpful.

    • @vyviid
      @vyviid 4 месяца назад +20

Although I will add, the helmets in game are very clearly quite tight fitting, even if more realistic than most sci fi, and many cosplayers end up with the bobble head effect anyway, but that could also just be cosplayers not exactly having a soldiers physique, haha.

For example: When the time travelling starts there's the presentation room you end up in on like the 3rd teleport. If you go close to the podium the guy will acknowledge you, and an audio log in the present will change depending on if you caused an interruption or not.
And in the mission where BT gets kidnapped he says "watch your step" at the start (our watch OUR step if you are piloting BT at the time), and there's bonus dialogue if you in fact don't watch your step.
There's more but those are some of my favs. Lots of little world building moments you can easily miss
    Edit: going to list a few more I like;
BT and Cooper have different dominant hands as you can see by BT holding the gun differently in pilot vs titan mode
Enemies you kill in the past will show up as old corpses in the present during time travel
Ash stops the platforms if you don't ride up the moving ones to her little dome arena, and if you jump off after the last one starts moving she'll be disappointed and you have to redo it.

While that is foreshadowing, I don't consider it as being telegraphed since it is a "blink and you'll miss it" moment, as opposed to the first time having a minutes long segment showing how badly BT is damaged.

Absolutely love this game, though I thought the gameplay you watched wasn't the best. They cut some nice moments out and hardly ever did any assassinations, especially against the named enemies. They never realized you could hack a bunch of systems, including the robot enemies with your data knife either. Not to mention they hardly ever used any of the other Titan Loadouts which help to vary up the gameplay quite a bit. Regardless, still a good watch!

They either left out plot points, extra lines, or cool cinematography/animations, such as the boss kills, all ya gotta do is melee them once they reach the 'critical' HP bar. And in general, but this is just a personal nitpick, it wasn't the best of gameplay either, felt clunky watching it. Very slow compared to what even a mid player could have done. But your reaction was still great! Good to see an actual.. review I guess. It really gives a scale difference of the abilites each soldier has and makes sense as of why normal soldiers would either shit themselves out of fear or cheer in triumph whenever they saw a pilot joining their fight. so when you are talking about the physics from about the 1:35:00 mark it is interesting to note that it is largely physically correct.
As you are moving at speed when you start falling from the ship you continue to move in that direction as you fall, This is because nothing has acted apon you to slow that movement other than drag(in order to keep the speed up + some limits of source engine they didnt have drag/much drag), so you travel on an ark in the direction you were traveling. Think of it like a running jump or a throw. same idea.
Also as a fun fact all of BT's throws in the game are legit within the game engine, as in he actually throws you with a force and a vector within source instead of an animation as to better keep that feel of correct physics.
will say I'm glad you touched on this point again at the end, wrote this before I got to that point. but yeah, source engine reasons is why it's like that. They needed to use source for the wall running and movement to work correctly for the speed and control they wanted but it is not as deep physically speaking as say unreal.

This game was such a breath of fresh air. It's so rare to see a game that goes out of its way to continuously keep things moving, add diverse gameplay elements, and not linger on them too longer. It's really easy to conceive a world where the time-jump level was an entire game, but they added it, kept it long enough to make it interesting, and moved on from it before it outstayed its welcome. The story was engaging and really focused on the building the relationship between Cooper and BT, and every story beat moves that growth forward. The ending seems like it should have felt like a cheap shot - BT "dies", only to get a new body and then die again, but for some reason it didn't. That moment when BT's system goes down doesn't really have the same impact watching it as playing it - you've just spent a good chunk of the last 8-12 hours inside BT's cockpit, and to be in that cockpit when the lights go out and you can't move or do anything but watch as his system is scrambling felt gut-wrenching. I really hope we get a Titanfall 3, but with the success of Apex Legends, it seems increasingly unlikely that will happen, which is honestly kind of tragic given the level of love they put into this game.

A fun little fact about the time traveling mission: The name of that mission is "Effect and Cause," which is the reverse of (you guessed it) cause and effect. The reason for this is that the events that happened in that facility already went down, but you were also there (hence, why BT says he detected traces of his own signature). For example, when you first go to retrieve the device on Anderson's body, you'll drop into a room full of dead security robots. A time distortion will activate and bring you to the past, and your presence in that room (the effect) is what activates those robots. You're then brought back to the present, and those robots are now "dead" because you caused them to be there.

BT is thinking of how to destroy the weapon, and then also protect Cooper.

Fun fact! Fs-1041 from the training simulation is the same titan you drop down in level 9 when unlocking legion.
2nd fun fact! In the effect and cause mission (time travel mission) the past is in fact causal to the present. This is evident in the university class hall part, the professor says "can i help you pilot?" If you get close. On his podeum there is an audio log in the present day (ruined facility). If you got close, it ends with the can i help you line, if you didnt, it ends at the last line of his lecture
3rd fun fact! Bt is one of very few remaining vanguard class titans. Vanguards are the tankier and more adaptable model. Whereas sarah briggs is in a monarch class titan, a later version of the vanguard based more around suppressive fire and maneuverability.
4th fun fact! The thermapylae was actually a militia ship taken by the imc.
5th fun fact! The card blisk gave jack is an invite to the apex games. From the rampart and mirage cinematics we can see that they also recieved cards, even after blisk ruined their life or damaged their reputation. That is why blisk walked away, he knew he didnt need to kill the pilot when he could potentially make a profit from him.
6th fun fact! At the end of the credits, there is a scene where pilot coopers unwiped helmet blinks in morse code. Translated, it says "C O O P E R" if i remember correctly. This means bt's data chip, ocular lens or at the very least ai, still lives.

Can’t believe they cut the part where Ash’s arena builds itself before up. Really shows how you’ve been moving through fragments of the arena as it’s being constructed

A little piece of trivia, but, in the final cinematic, if just like Cooper, you're just a guy in his chair, too stunned to do anything, and you don't pick any of the 2 dialogue options, another "secret" dialogue plays, where neither BT or Cooper says anything, until BT ejects Cooper and simply "Goodbye, Jack." Fucking love this option more than any of the other two.

Something to note about the boss fight kills- every boss has a unique execution kill that plays when you melee the boss after their titan becomes "doomed" (secondary healthbar). Whoever was recording the gameplay clearly had no idea you could do this, so we missed a lot of the unique glory kills that exist.

  • @kjaked39
    @kjaked39 4 месяца назад

Lets not forget, somewhere out there, BT is still alive.
Theres a small scene after the credits, that has Cooper's helmet display Morse Code, something along the lines of "Jack, are you there?"
Also, that "Calling Card" is an invite to the Apex Legends, something that actually happens after Titanfall 2, since Viper's kid is there.

  • @Epsilon2042

22:35 Damn... You are good at predicting. In the credits, Jack's helmet blinks rapidly, which is supposedly morse code for "Jack?", probably sent by BT.

Something to note about your disappointment with the boss fights; with the robot lady (Ash) when she was killed, the person playing the game did an execution by meleeing when here health was in the super low doomed state which plays that cool animations. If you do an execution on all of the bosses, they each have their own cool animations. So whenever you go to play yourself, I recommend trying to do that with every boss.
There's also a lot of really good voicelines that weren't shown in the video you watch with them either being skipped, ignored or just having the other option selected instead. I implore you to listen to chat if you stream this so you can choose the ones that have really good storytelling or are just really funny.

One nice detail i"ve noticed when i played this game is that the titan you call in the VR world at the start of the game is the same titan that gets given to you when you have BTs data core

1:29:20 yes, you can fight boss as a pilot in every encounter. you just jump out of your titan and start shooting and climbing on them.
also, except the first boss and viper, you can get cinematic execution with every boss, you just need to damage them until the yellow and black health appear (doom state), and melee them to trigger your titan finisher

There is a bit of foreshadowing BT’s death when he’s glitching out. He in actual fact is calculating their next move, his destruction, and that’s how he plotted Cooper’s path to the dropship despite all the explosions.
I’d really like to hope if there is a Titanfall 3, Cooper is able to find BT’s core in the debris, and it picks it up from there, somehow

This was a great watch. Titanfall 2 is probably by far my favorite shooter. And yes you can exit the titan at any time. Multiplayer really does show the scale in difference when your a pilot vs in a titan. Thanks for the reaction. 😢 Titanfall 3 forever in our hearts

The reason that the scale is a little finicky is because Titan's used to be labor mechs, so most facilities are already sized up to compensate for them.

Quick detail I think got left out of that video. In the last part right before the credits, the helmet's lights blink a few times. IIRC, that in morse translates to "Jack?". And just now I'm remembering... BT did transfer an AI fragment into Cooper's helmet to allow communication across time...

the helmet showed at the end of scene, suddenly turns up, and blinks.
it has two bright light, translate to ASCII code, '01001010 01100001 01100011 0110101100111111' which means BT transmitting to helmet "JACK?"

its nice seeing the cinematography of this game discussed cause there is so many little details to make it what it is.
i know you mention cutscenes for killing and others have mentioned it but there is executions if you melee, also the reason they don't zoom for a bodyshot before fights is they want to show off the titan as well, as the titan is as much the boss as the pilot

In apex legends the whole thing is run by kuben blisk, additionally ash is a playable character since her background as a simulacrum allowed her to be rebuilt. Another playable character is Valkyrie and she is the daughter of Viper. She used pieces of his titan in order to create her jet pack and missile launchers. Furthermore other legends have skills reminiscent of the pilots. Pathfinder has a grappling hook, wraith can phase like pilots and the ronin titan, mirage can send out holodecoys. Among many others

Mentioning the close up on the main villains: I think the reason that they didn't do a close up on their faces is because they are just as much the villain as their titan is, their titan is an extension of themselves and each one holds I different personal even though they never speak. The titans all have decals that make them different of other titans in the same class.

Man, favourite FPS campaign, maybe ever??? I recommend trying out the MP or just watching some high-end gameplay for multiplayer. (Specifically some attrition gameplay) It's pretty awesome to witness, it's one of those easy to learn, hard to master with a disgustingly high ceiling.
If nothing else, I would recommend checking out the Apex Legends trailer for Valkyrie, there's a cool connection there.
Also, It looks like this player had a very high FoV, so that makes some of the scenes look really weird and framed oddly.
Blisk is also one of, if not the main villain of titanfall 1, and he is a big character in Apex Legends, in fact I think that's the name of his mercenary corps.
There's also an after credits scene at the end with a cool little secret that links back to something that happened in the time travel mission.
